One of the most useful shortcuts for navigating the scene is: Keep pressing right mouse button and use WASD to move around like an FPS, also Q and E to move up or down :)
Yeah, he also missed the Shit + Space Bar to maximize windows, is really useful when you don't have a second monitor and Unity hadn't implemented the zoom in the animator window
You can Toggle the Vertex Snap (instead of holding v) by pressing Shift + V. It makes it a bit easier to select the right vertex of the to-be-moved object. You just got to remember to Toggle it off by pressing Shift + V afterward. You can hide any selection from the Scene Viewport by pressing H. Pressing it again (while selected from the Hierarchy menu) will make it visible again. This is useful if you want to hide stuff from the Scene viewport without actually affecting the physics or lightmap. For example, if you're working on some interior, you can just hide the exterior. Hidden object are still visible by the renderer (and light) and the physic engine. You can isolate the Scene Viewport to your selection by pressing Shift + H. This will hide everything except what you're selecting (and its children). It's possible to set a shortcut for hiding everything (including children) except the selection in the shortcuts menu. The difference between Hiding from the Viewport and isolating is that you can only have 1 Isolated group at a time, meaning you can hide something with H, but you'll only be able to see it in the Viewport again by selecting it and pressing H again. If it's not selected, pressing H doesn't do anything. On the other hand, pressing Shift+H will Isolate the selection and, even if it's not selected, pressing againt Shift+H will reveal everything in the scene that is not in the previous isolated selection and not already hidden. If you're uncertain of what is hidden or not, you can reveal everything by just pressing CTRL + A and pressing H twice. This will hide everything and reveal everything. (When multiple object are selected, pressing H while one object in the selection is visible will hide everything. If NONE are visible, then everything is revealed.)
The most useful plugin from the asset store you can get is Open Recent Scene. You press Ctrl + Shift + O then a number to open a scene really quickly. It's awesome and it's free.
I gotta say, you're one great guy! All your tutorials are short and to the point, and you always explain things. You're half the reason I have a game dev passion. I used to think development was quite hard and required years of training, but with your tutorials, I knew all the basics within a couple hours!
Really useful, thanks! Just one detail about the F shortcut, if your mouse is over the hierarchy window it will highlight the object in the hierarchy instead of centering the object in the scene view. At least on windows.
Not gonna lie but this has been the most useful video about unity so far. I'm glad this is up because I had no idea how to use the short cuts. This will help beginners in unity like me for sure! This deserves a lot of likes! :)
Oh wow. This came just the right time when I wanted to get back to Unity since I had forgotten all these shortcuts and its pain the ass finding them separately on google. Thanks Brackeys! :)
i have been following your videos for quite some time now .....and I can proudly say that I already knew more than 80% of those shortcuts......and as always awesome work!
The reason Mac uses Cmnd+Shift+Z as opposed to Control+Y is because it is quicker and more comfortable than Control+Y if you have only one hand on the keyboard. It speeds things up because it's easier for one hand, and you can keep your other hand on the mouse if it is not on the keyboard.
Just remember that you can change every shortcut for your preference. As in, I don't like ctrl+P and ctrl+shift+P, so I set them to ctrl+space and ctrl+shift+space
Anyone still have a copy of the cheat sheet somewhere? Brackeys has stopped producing new content and the link is no longer available (Guessing they disabled Patreon...)
One other shortcut you might find useful - that is different between Windows and MacOS, is renaming objects. Press F2 in Windows, or hit the return key on MacOS to rename. These are different in Windows and MacOS, like the ⇧⌘Z and ctrl+Y for redo, because these are shortcuts that work on a whole system level. You expect ⇧⌘Z to work as redo in every application on Mac, same with using finder. Find a file, hit return to rename it. Same thing for Windows, where I expect F2 to be used when I want to rename something, and ctrl+Y for redoing something.
Well I've been using Unity for a bit longer than a year and I've been zooming with the mouse wheel until now, which is a major pain in the ass ! So thanks for that !
@thedragoshi Don't know if this was how it was in earlier versions, but in more recent versions of Unity (2020-present) you use Shift+F to lock on and follow an object in the scene view!
I don't know why but I found your tutorials most easy to understand ... maybe because you do not sound like a boring lecturer hating what he's talking about (which is quite common in Game Engine tutorials) :) I would love to watch your tutorial about Odin - I'm still struggling with that great tool...
*Dear Brackeys!* Theres this *thing* that is buggering me for quite a while, please help me out. At 1:22 you drag corners of your rect with recttool and it changes its size according to its pivot (pivot stays at the same place). But it doesnt work like that for me. If I drag a corner, even while holding CTRL - the pivot moves towards the side im dragging. Just like that: imgur.com/a/Gwkq2t1 What the hell am I doing wrong? Im slowly losing my mind.
@@darkhacks5743 I know this question is two years old but I've actually found the answer a few days after posting the comment, via desperate trial and error. You have to hold alt+shift and then drag
There's two standards when Undo an Redo The first is: CTRL + Y to redo where most of windows apps use. while on unix-like system, they tend to use CTRL + SHIFT + Z to Redo Probably osx inherites the after shortcut because that's the system standard, actually you don't delete an object on Mac using delete key, but Cmd + Backspace :3
not sure if anyone else is noticing it, but i'm hearing like this slight sorta static-y background specifically when brackey talks. its kinda faint but when u notice it, u can't unnotice it anymore haha
Can you make a video of your music program which you use to create music for the games? And I know you've already made a video on Bosca Ceoil, but do you have any more music programs? Thx.
Thank you very much for this quick tutorial. Do you know if there is a shortcut to copy and paste object Transform? It seems it is feasible only using the mouse in the inspector, but is very long and boring action. Using shortcuts could be really faster to place objects in the same position. Thank you for your help!
@brackeys, I have a question on the Focus shortcut. I can't for the life of me figure out what is the focus distance of it. Surely it focuses on the object, but sometimes it will end up so zoomed out, that I have to still 'fly' to it, if you understand what I'm saying. Say a cube selected in the hierarchy will come into view, but faaar away. Am I dumb, or is there a trick to it?
Could you do another FULL Game tutorial someday? Maybe just smth. like a 2D jump&run game but with all the stuff that unity added since your last one and all the mechanics you used to teach us (e.G. your Dialog System). Would love to see smth. like that
As always. Great tutorials. I have never done it before but I have a suggestion about the future video. EULA, Terms & Conditions. Maybe you know more about it as there is very little to read to make a decent EULA for our apps. And now GDPR is coming into force this month I think it is a quite hot topic. Hope you can share your knowledge about it. Cheers. Keep up the good work.
I see people in tutorials using their mouse to change settings in the inspector while they are play testing a game. How do you free up the mouse from the play window please?
Would be cool to see how to do a flicker properly so it isn't just frame-on-frame-off (E.g. when a platformer character takes damage and flickers to show they're invincible right now).
Cheppo™ the keyboard is the WASD v2 with cherry MX blues and sound dampeners. As for the caps it seems like he bought custom ones from the WASD website.
How do i get my cursor back when i use CursorLock in unity let suppose i want to toggle some values in editor while i am in play mode but my cursor is locked in game ?

Ga2Z Heh, you missed it. Check 3:33
Oh! right, thanks (he also do it on the animator window, how emabrassing lol). That happens to keep watching videos on 2x speed haha
also one I use all the time....middle mouse click an object, that will center the object and allow you to rotate around the point you clicked.
Alt-f4 to finish your game.
alt-f4 again to test your game :)
Press your computers Power Button to get a Reward in your game.
Yes alt + f4 is to publish the game
@Motion Unleashed whooshhh
@Motion Unleashed ahhaha did u do it?
Ctrl + shift + f.... I needed that so badly... THANK YOU❤️
It's why I came too, so glad I found it.
WOW! "Shift + Space" will change my life

where did you get that keyboard, its really nice?
its from "WASD"

I've been holding F key down to focus on moving objects. Didn't know I could just double tap it. Thank you!!
In Hierarchy: [CNTL + A] to highlight everything, then [Alt + Right / Left] arrow to expand or contract everything.
Wow this is a great list for an (EXTREMELY) casual new user, thanks so much

You can also use Right Mouse Button + Q/E to levitate up and down
I would like to know if there are shortcuts to create New folder and New scripts on Unity editor. This would help a lot.

Ctrl+alt+f to move a selected object to the front of your view on scene tab (without changing rotation its rotation, just position)
Did you just replace keycaps from your keyboard or made it from scratch? It looks cool.

Is there a shortcut to restart the whole Game. I have this Problem when I'm playing at Fullscreen. I'm searching an alternative to a Button.

Hey... Where is alt + 4f?
the most important shortcuts for me are alt-clicking the collapse buttons in the heirarchy to collapse and expand all the children at once.
Especially good after you accidentally CTRL-A a huge scene.
Brackeys could you make a tutorial on how to code movement on a 3d platformer like smash bros? kinda like the game you made "ball wars".
