    You guys must be kidding. A few months ago, I chose to go the 30mm spindle path. Bought a Rotor BB as it was the cheapest for around 40 bucks. 40 Bucks! SRAM GXP, Shimano XT, even XTR... cost almost half the price!
    Alternatives? Hope, Chris King. For their price, I could change the BB like 20 times in case of bearing failure - which is exactly what happened after ONE day of muddy riding with my Rotor. Bearings stuck on both sides.
    And now back to SRAM. I bet that 1.01 mm will make your bearings fly to the moon! You could have developed a standard GXP-like BSA 30 bearing and everyone would've been in love with it.

    I've got GX eagle on my bike and it rocks!! Franz V People are criticizing the marketing double talk. This stuff is aimed at dummies that fall for advertising.
      Without coming out and saying it directly, they are wording this to deceive people into thinking they're creating a single solution to the myriad BB standards out there. And that's not what's happening.
      They're just unveiling a new product. Which is fine in its own, but not fine to misrepresent what it really is.

    Best modern crankset is the Shimano XTR M980, which came out in 2011 - strong, light, VERY durable, VERY reliable, low q-factor, great looking, somewhat affordable, uses the established 24mm bottom bracket and established 104mm chainrings, works perfectly with threaded BB's and just fine in BB30 with a good BB and/or adapters. Every carbon crank on the market is delicate and generally unreliable.

    SRAM trying to offer that 1-stop shop for OEMs... talk up them buyers into thinking that it's better to have a SRAM BB with SRAM crank with Eagle chainring to go with the rest of the Eagle group, over a RF crank. As a consumer, I hope OEs don't buy into this, since SRAM's high retail pricing is a huge turn-off. I'd get 24mm spindle if I wanted a crank that fit all standards. I don't care about weight at the BB.

    i dont actually know what it is that they made or how it works on existing platforms. they basically took 6 minutes to assure me they know what they're doing.
    wait i get it now. its just spindle diameter and bearings that are in either a threaded shell or pressfit... so to sum up the video "buy a new crank, again, cuz its 2018"

  • @someguy9520
    @someguy9520 7 лет назад +4

    claiming that eagle is now the benchmark/golden standard is quite brave. Considering that bikes today still have mostly shimano components and not a lot of people wanting to change to a rather expensive XD-driver if they want to convert.

    • @NoBrakes23
      @NoBrakes23 7 лет назад +1

      I've ridden Eagle and it's nice, but it is excessive. If you are weak enough to need a 50t dinnerplate, are you really going to use that 10t anywhere but downhill? 11-42 is already a great range. I'm using 1x10 and loving it, (I'm not a fit rider at all.) Honestly I could get by with 1x9, but I like having a clutch in the RD.
      Eagle will be nice for 1x road bikes, and it would be cool if they did closer ratio cassettes like 12-48 or a sturdy 14-46.

    • @nateisright
      @nateisright 7 лет назад +3

      The XD driver is the main reason I cannot adopt SRAM. I have 4 sets of wheels and 5 cassettes that I would have to modify or cast off. For me Shimano XT (1x or 2x) is the best price to capability ratio.

  • @stevehansen4808
    @stevehansen4808 Год назад +1

    In the hope that good folks at SRAM read these comments, the overall theme with this video seemed to be the importance of standardization to get consistency/quality. As someone who just got a new all-road bike, I find a lack of consistency, and clarity, surrounding the DUB Wide vs, standard DUB. Why are two standards needed? If I want to switch from my Force AXS 46-33, I have to change my derailleur too? I understand the purpose of Wide is to help accommodate wider wheels, so why not just go with wide throughout the line so the 44-30, the 46-33, and the 48-36 all are wide and work with ONE derailleur? Is there a reason a road rider would not want the pedals pushed out the 2.5mm that is provided by the DUB wide? Also, you can't use the integrated Quark Spider on the wide 44-30 as it has a 94 Bold Circle Diameter (BCD) vs. the 107 BCD for the 46-33, and the 48-36. SRAM never mentions that. What has taken me down this rabbit hold is my new Ribble GCR TI is set up with Force AXS and came with the WIDE derailleur but also came with the 48-36 chain rings. There is an utter lack of information from SRAM on the interoperability of these components. While SRAM is clear you need a wide derailleur to use the 44-30, is that really so? Could someone get the chain rings and put them on a standard DUB bottom bracket and would that work? This is assuming wide tires is not the problem someone wants to solve, but instead only wants the wider gearing. And nowhere does SRAM state if you can use the 46-33, and the 48-36 with a wide derailleur but apparently that will work because that is what came with my new bike and it works fine. Figuring out what will work and what won't has been frustrating and knowing i can't use my power meter on the Wide system is a real bummer. Through all this it seems the goal of consistency and clarity no longer applies. Bottom line, the Wide concept is a great idea,, but it really would have been great to leave the BCD the same for the smaller chain rings so my current spiders and power meter would work, and if that is not possible then standardize the entire line of chain rings and power meters around the 97 BCD, or something in between. Then just use one bottom bracket and one derailleur so everything can be mixed and matched with no issues.

    Good for SRAM, but meh for the consumer. SRAM only has to produce one spindle now (which won't fit in any other BB type but their DUB). SRAM also gets to reduce crankset SKU #s they now need to produce, but still get to sell the hell out of BBs. IMO, switching out cranks and bottom brackets for a bike isn't a big deal. BBs are cheap and easy to install.

    Is this why the Force eTap AXS crank is so much more expensive than the Force 22?
    Fair enough, on the condition that DUB, indeed, fully resolves the issues with press non-threaded bottom brackets.
    That said, I don't quite understand how Sram can refine the bottom bracket -to bottom bracket shell tolerances to the minimum without knowing of the precise tolerances of every frame out there. I wonder, what @Hambini and Chris King think about #DUB…

    Hey SRAM instead of making yet another specific spindle size/BB bearing size. Why don't you guys focus on fixing the decade old Juicy syndrome with your brakes, do better QC work with the Etap line and Zipp products, or better yet bring some product manufacturing back stateside.

    apparently there is no real information why those bearings or seals are better then previous types and I remind my self that the last innovation from SRAM for BBs the GXP was not good at all. Asynchron bearing types and if the spindle got loose only a tiny bit the whole crank-system was dead in one hard stroke.
    Well I hope SRAM makes a good explanation why those BB are more durable and not just because we have a new axle standard and well better seals crap. Give me some real information about it.
    PS. I dislike all 2 piece cranks.

    All benefits I see so far is for SRAM: cheaper manufacturing - one spindle length/diameter less steps to produce etc. - and can be sold for more as the "latest and greatest". As a bonus it forces to buy a SRAM BB with it - for now. The rest sounds like typical marketing BS mixed with some beard fest.
