How many standards are enough ? Not a single shop owner that has been at it long enough saw the neo-yuppie explosion that has occured in cycling coming. Nor did many of us think there would come a day that it was marketed just like golf, a minefield of gimmicks and must have garbage that is seemingly in a constant state of flux. And over the last 10 years the pace at which new mechanical "standards" are adopted has been dizzying, so much so now that nothing is standard or unified about most things hitting the market. Most of us owners aren't really complaining as we will be selling people like 123456bmx the new "reasonably priced" "standard" and can quite easily adapt as there isn't a new tool involved (nice change of pace), but who the hell was even asking for this ? Nobody, that's who, this is simply SRAM developing for the sake of sales. Now Im sure we will see Shimano's completely different "unified" standard in response.....should be awesome.
@@parktool The tool i got advised by the shop employee was Park Tool BBT-90.3 Brackettool. He said it was fine for my sram dub pressfit (89/92), only one they were selling, didnt see anything else (neither in webshop)

So DUB means "Durable Unified Bottombracket" but does it live up to its name? Is it really durable? It is now a time past introduction, so what are the results so far? I did not want to be an early adopter and waited to see how it will work not only in theroy but in the harsh reality.
Let's revive this! I have a Jones LWB Complete that came with a Truvativ Stylo DUB crankset. The crankarms are 3 mm off set, with the drive side crankarm sticking farther out 3 mm more than the non-drive side from the centerline of the frame. I see that Wheels Mfg. makes 0.5 mm DUB Delrin spacers. Can I just remove the installed 4.5 mm Sram DUB spacer on the drive side, and stack up 9 of the Wheels Mfg. 0.5mm spacers on each side of my DUB spindle to achieve a perfectly centered chainline? Or am I going to run into problems? Thanks.
We just used the HHP-2 to install in this video. We do now have drifts/bushings that are sized specifically for DUB that will fit onto the HHP-3, HHP-2 or the BBP-1.2. They are part number 2292-2 and can be purchased directly from us.
As a manufacturer of bottom brackets I can't believe that SRAM market this as a unified standard. This is ridiculous. They've picked a non standard spindle size to add to the headache. This is like a train crash.
The unified part is referring to Sram's "eventually" single spindle size (28.99) GXP and BB30 will be discontinued. Every manufacturer has their own take. The consumer isn't really thought of when new products are developed.
People have big problems when manufacturers change their products, especially Sram. You have to remember that this is just a product refresh not a new "standard" Shimano did the same thing changing from Octalink 1&2 to Hollowtech, Raceface did the same changing from X-type to 30mm Cinch. This is no different, Sram are not making another frame standard. New products are always a step in the right direction, just keep up with it.

So I actually just swapped out my 30mm spindle for a dub crank set. And to my surprise they use the same F*** bearings. What SRAM uses to make this new 28.99 spindle work is a plastic sleeve. Complete bullshit, all marketing. If I take the dub sleeves out I can fit my 30mm spindles in no problem.
There is a plastic insert in the bearing that needs to be popped off if you would like to get in to see the ball bearings. After you pop the insert off you will then have to pop the seal off. These bearing systems are very well thought out and the seal and the insert are shaped to prevent debris from entering.
I want to buy this dub crank and install the new sram gx eagle crankset. Can someone please tell me which bottom bracket to get for my 2020 rockhopper expert and if i need spacers or not? This is all kind of confusing cause looking at the chart i can't figure it out.
Looks like you have a threaded bb. So, the BSA DUB bottom bracket and it appears those bikes have standard MTB spacing so just a 4.5mm spacer is needed on the outboard of the right side.

So, I am confused. DUB is supposed to be nearly "universal". I am thinking this is only regarding the fit of the bottom bracket to the bike frame. I don't see any reference to DUB being nearly universal regarding cranks. Will only SRAM cranks fit DUB bottom brackets?
Good question. It is not universal in the entire bike world. DUB is the new platform for SRAM. The "SRAM-iverse" is going DUB, so it will be universal in that world. Currently there are three platforms for SRAM. GXP (24/22mm spindle), BB30 (30mm spindle) and now DUB (28.99mm spindle). It seems they want to settle on one, and that is DUB.
Can DUB be use without boost? Lots of groupset come as boost. Looking at buying sram gx or xo dub for my evil Wreckoning but I’m confused 😁 please help and thanks for awesome videos!
Dub cranks can be boost compatible. The difference is the offset of the chainring. If you buy a boost compatible DUB crank you will not have to change anything but if you were to buy a "standard" DUB crankset you would need to change out the chainring to one with the correct amount of offset.

And will a BB30 one fit, or what option would I have to get?
A BB30 crank will not fit into a DUB bottom Bracket and is not compatible with your frame. You will need a PF30, DUB, or GXP crank if you are looking in the SRAM family. If you select the GXP or PF30 crank then you will need a new bottom bracket. If you choose a DUB crank then you can use your current bottom bracket. If I were you and was looking to upgrade to a new SRAM crank I would look for a DUB crank, make sure that it is designed to be used with 148mm spacing/boost as well (your bike is boost). If you do not get the 148mm/boost crankset then you will need to get a new chainring for it with the correct amount of offset. So, you might as well get the boost crank from the get go. Hope this helps
i’m having trouble trying to find information regarding what spacers to use with my 73mm dub bb install on my santa cruz 5010, i plan to use an iscg05 bash guard and idk if that counts as a spacer or not... can anyone assist ?

The BBT-90.3 fits the PF30 and BB30 bottom bracket bearing standards, using a 30mm inside diameter for the bearing. The foot of the BBT-90.3 is too large to fit the slightly smaller DUB bearing. The BBT-90.3 driver is for the pressed bottom brackets in the 24mm standards (and 22), so it fits the BB92, BB86 or PF41 bearings. It is too small for the DUB bearing sizing. The RT-1 in the video is just DUB right.

Anyone else have trouble removing a dub crankset off of a bike? We've tried everything we can to move that 8mm hex bolt from the drive side on a scott spark.... we are scared of damaging the carbon frame with how much torque we are having to use to try and remove it. and tips?
These are proving to be bears to remove. Using more leverage is the best solution we have come across. Once you have it off be sure to apply grease to the threads upon reinstallation. Great application for a SWB-15 ;)
The DUB spindle is a 28.99mm outside diameter. It is a spindle standard. The "BB30" is refers to the shell, not necessarily the spindle used. When people say "BB30" they commonly mean a press fit bottom bracket with a 42mm diameter bearing OD, and a 30mm bearing ID. So a BB30 would use the spindle of 30mm. DUB would just not fit.
@@parktool I think you are misunderstanding. The axle diameters are different yes we get that. However the splined bit on the end of the axle where the crank mounts onto is not 30mm, it has independent dimensions since on the bb30 and dub axles the step from the end of the spline to the bearing land is slightly different. That tapered spline will have a min diameter for the end of the axle and a max diameter where the spline ends just before the axle steps to either 30mm or 28.99mm.
Okay, such as replacing the arm with a non-DUB? That we would need to try and see how it fits. Certainly SRAM wants the cranks used as a pair. It does seem likely the engineers would "copy and paste" the crank fit, but not necessarily. Remove the retaining ring of the non-DUB, and push it onto the DUB spline, then compare this with the DUB crank. That will give you an idea of the feasibility.

Good question, meaning the answer is yes, and, no. The cycling industry has do us not favor with the terminology. It mixes spindles and shell terms all the time. The BB30 is a frame standard that is not threaded, with 42mm nominal inside diameter. You can have a threaded bottom bracket accept threaded bearing cups that will accept a 30mm spindle. The 30mm spindle is the norm of the BB30 world. The boost system refers to the rear spacing and boost compatible arms move the front ring to accommodate. So you cannot have a threaded BB30. You can have a crank with the 30mm spindle to fit thread cups in threaded bottom bracket. This video was about DUB, not the 30mm spindles, but these also use rings to make them boost compatible. Simple, yes?
@@parktool I got scout 290 frame with 73mm BB shell. I bought hope bb30 that screws in my frame no problem. Bought GX sram boost crank and it doesn't fit. No clearance for crank (it touches the frame) and as I tight up the cranks with 8mm Allen it james solid
A BB30 crank will only fit a BB30 bike. It can get confusing as there are BB30 cranks and BB30/PF30 cranks from SRAM. The BB30 cranks will only fit BB30 frames but the BB30/PF30 will fit many other standards. The spindle is longer with a wider q factor allowing more clearance. To see if your spindle can be compatible measure the spindle length. Measurement is taken from the inside face of the crank arm to the very end of the spindle with all adjusters and spacers removed. 104mm+ means you can get it to work. Any less and that crank will not work on the bike.
when changing from my old bb30 cx frame to the new with bsa I had to buy a new crankset even if the bb30 one was still good (& expensive). So for me dub would have been an advantage there.
Exactly! So many bb30 cranks were purchased just to be put on a shelf as they did not fit the intended bike. This new change will hopefully keep cranks away from the dusty shelves and instead put them to work on peoples bikes.
No spacer needed behind the BB cups. Just the 4.5 mm spacer that clicks onto the outside of the driveside cup. If you are running a chainguide, bashguard, or emount derailleur then you can run the 2mm spacer on that clicks onto the outside of the cup. Funny, but 68 mm BSA is for me essential criteria to buy a bike or not. I worked as a bike mechanic and we use to call pressfit BBs "pressshit". The only advantage with those BBs is, these are much faster and easier to produce and assemble by the manufacturer.
Good question. Most of Treks new MTN bikes are coming with a BB92 which will work great with DUB. In the past Treks have come with bb90's which are not compatible. As for Huffy you are good to go. You may need an adapter on some of them though. Eric Patterson

This is an good question because is shows what a mess the terminology and names are in the industry. It will take a some text to explain. There is no "GXP" bottom bracket in terms of the frame. The GXP is a term for spindle-to-bearing fit. The SRAM GXP bearing system uses a larger ID bearing on the right, and a smaller ID bearing on the left. If the frame shell is threaded, it can accept threaded adapters for the GXP. Pressed frames can use the pressed GXP adapters. The crank must match this system. SRAM DUB can fit the exact same bike. The DUB crank must have DUB compatible bearings, in terms of the ID fit. If you are getting the DUB crankset, it should come with the DUB bottom bracket. The crank spindle will match correctly to the bearing inside diameter, and all will be good. You cannot however use a DUB crank with a GXP bearing adapter. DUB is not a new frame fit standard. It is a new crank spindle-to-bearing standard.
I own a Trek Boone 2018 GXP Force CX1, I wanted to upgrade so I ordered a pair of Force DUB Cranks and a DUB BB92, took the bike to my local Trek dealer for installation, they told me they are not compatible with my frame.
When a company claims to develop a new standard to end all current standards, I just think to myself "Yay, yet another standard to worry about". FSA and BH collaborated to try and end the BB30/GXP wars, they also tried to market the standard as "stiffer" because the bottom bracket shells were wider. What people didn't realise is that BB30 aimed to get the cups inboard again to make the Q factor better, this trend for wider and wider bottom brackets isn't comfortable on all-day rides, and it isn't terribly natural either (Graeme Obree will back me up). I hope SRAM do get it right, and that everyone else agrees to use it. I really hate most current pressfit standards, BB30 in particular for being so unbelievably problematic. Oh wait, I don't have to throw my bike away for this one? Okay, I'm totally okay with this!
I am still running triple crankset and old school bottom bracket (yes, 10sp is now old school). The single speed crankset crowd stares at my machine with arrogance until I kick their silly assses down the descent. These new bottom brackets offer nothing new to performance...at all.

Well, not quite. DUB is a spindle fit standard. There is a DUB-pf30, as well as a DUB-bb30, and also the threaded BSA. GXP will go away, but the frame fits are the same.
Park Tool what I meant is this: I feel like press fit is going away. At least in mountain bikes manufacturers are moving away from pf30 back to threaded. Still lil bit lighter for road Bikes. Not worth the grams in my opinion. I personal don’t like press fit and there tendency to creak. know there are methods to deal with it. Shouldn’t have to. Sucks when customer drops some serious cash on a nice bike and it creaks. I think manufacturers do it because it is cheaper. They eliminate the threading step or bonding a aluminum insert into a carbon frame. Lame.

I know I'm late, but the preload adjuster is what gxp needed from the start. Gxp was too reliant on the bottom bracket being the perfect width.

What bearing size does the DUB PF30 use?
The SRAM DUB PF30 bottom bracket uses a proprietary bearing. The entire bottom bracket will need to be replaced if it is damaged or worn out.

What's the best way to service the bearings? Pulled the cranks (holy crap!), but it seems to be a hard shield on the outside.

Each brand will have technical documents walking you through the desired setups. Those documents can be found on the manufacturers page, typically.
I was originally very opposed to dub but I think sram does make some good points about 30mm standard and 24mm/gxp and the advantages of a new size

If you select the GXP or PF30 crank then you will need a new bottom bracket. If you choose a DUB crank then you can use your current bottom bracket. If I were you and was looking to upgrade to a new SRAM crank I would look for a DUB crank, make sure that it is designed to be used with 148mm spacing/boost as well (your bike is boost). If you do not get the 148mm/boost crankset then you will need to get a new chainring for it with the correct amount of offset. So, you might as well get the boost crank from the get go. Park Tool: What's the difference between the pressfit BB removal tool you showed here (BBT-90.3) and the BBT-30.4?
The BBT-90.3 fits the PF30 and BB30 bottom bracket bearing standards, using a 30mm inside diameter for the bearing. The foot of the BBT-90.3 is too large to fit the slightly smaller DUB bearing. The BBT-90.3 driver is for the pressed bottom brackets in the 24mm standards (and 22), so it fits the BB92, BB86 or PF41 bearings. It is too small for the DUB bearing sizing.
The RT-1 in the video is just DUB right.

Anyone else have trouble removing a dub crankset off of a bike? We've tried everything we can to move that 8mm hex bolt from the drive side on a scott spark.... we are scared of damaging the carbon frame with how much torque we are having to use to try and remove it. and tips?
These are proving to be bears to remove. Using more leverage is the best solution we have come across. Once you have it off be sure to apply grease to the threads upon reinstallation. Great application for a SWB-15 ;)

Is the Crank mounting interface the same as for BB30?
The DUB spindle is a 28.99mm outside diameter. It is a spindle standard. The "BB30" is refers to the shell, not necessarily the spindle used. When people say "BB30" they commonly mean a press fit bottom bracket with a 42mm diameter bearing OD, and a 30mm bearing ID. So a BB30 would use the spindle of 30mm. DUB would just not fit.
@@parktool I think you are misunderstanding. The axle diameters are different yes we get that. However the splined bit on the end of the axle where the crank mounts onto is not 30mm, it has independent dimensions since on the bb30 and dub axles the step from the end of the spline to the bearing land is slightly different. That tapered spline will have a min diameter for the end of the axle and a max diameter where the spline ends just before the axle steps to either 30mm or 28.99mm.
Okay, such as replacing the arm with a non-DUB? That we would need to try and see how it fits. Certainly SRAM wants the cranks used as a pair. It does seem likely the engineers would "copy and paste" the crank fit, but not necessarily. Remove the retaining ring of the non-DUB, and push it onto the DUB spline, then compare this with the DUB crank. That will give you an idea of the feasibility.

Good question, meaning the answer is yes, and, no. The cycling industry has do us not favor with the terminology. It mixes spindles and shell terms all the time.
The BB30 is a frame standard that is not threaded, with 42mm nominal inside diameter. You can have a threaded bottom bracket accept threaded bearing cups that will accept a 30mm spindle. The 30mm spindle is the norm of the BB30 world. The boost system refers to the rear spacing and boost compatible arms move the front ring to accommodate.
So you cannot have a threaded BB30. You can have a crank with the 30mm spindle to fit thread cups in threaded bottom bracket. This video was about DUB, not the 30mm spindles, but these also use rings to make them boost compatible.

@@parktool I got scout 290 frame with 73mm BB shell. I bought hope bb30 that screws in my frame no problem. Bought GX sram boost crank and it doesn't fit. No clearance for crank (it touches the frame) and as I tight up the cranks with 8mm Allen it james solid
A BB30 crank will only fit a BB30 bike. It can get confusing as there are BB30 cranks and BB30/PF30 cranks from SRAM. The BB30 cranks will only fit BB30 frames but the BB30/PF30 will fit many other standards. The spindle is longer with a wider q factor allowing more clearance. To see if your spindle can be compatible measure the spindle length. Measurement is taken from the inside face of the crank arm to the very end of the spindle with all adjusters and spacers removed. 104mm+ means you can get it to work. Any less and that crank will not work on the bike.

Exactly! So many bb30 cranks were purchased just to be put on a shelf as they did not fit the intended bike. This new change will hopefully keep cranks away from the dusty shelves and instead put them to work on peoples bikes.

No spacer needed behind the BB cups. Just the 4.5 mm spacer that clicks onto the outside of the driveside cup. If you are running a chainguide, bashguard, or emount derailleur then you can run the 2mm spacer on that clicks onto the outside of the cup. Funny, but 68 mm BSA is for me essential criteria to buy a bike or not. I worked as a bike mechanic and we use to call pressfit BBs "pressshit". The only advantage with those BBs is, these are much faster and easier to produce and assemble by the manufacturer.

Good question. Most of Treks new MTN bikes are coming with a BB92 which will work great with DUB. In the past Treks have come with bb90's which are not compatible. As for Huffy you are good to go. You may need an adapter on some of them though. Eric Patterson

This is an good question because is shows what a mess the terminology and names are in the industry. It will take a some text to explain.
There is no "GXP" bottom bracket in terms of the frame. The GXP is a term for spindle-to-bearing fit. The SRAM GXP bearing system uses a larger ID bearing on the right, and a smaller ID bearing on the left. If the frame shell is threaded, it can accept threaded adapters for the GXP. Pressed frames can use the pressed GXP adapters. The crank must match this system. SRAM DUB can fit the exact same bike. The DUB crank must have DUB compatible bearings, in terms of the ID fit. If you are getting the DUB crankset, it should come with the DUB bottom bracket. The crank spindle will match correctly to the bearing inside diameter, and all will be good. You cannot however use a DUB crank with a GXP bearing adapter. DUB is not a new frame fit standard. It is a new crank spindle-to-bearing standard.
I own a Trek Boone 2018 GXP Force CX1, I wanted to upgrade so I ordered a pair of Force DUB Cranks and a DUB BB92, took the bike to my local Trek dealer for installation, they told me they are not compatible with my frame.
I guess Praxis Works must be happy.
When a company claims to develop a new standard to end all current standards, I just think to myself "Yay, yet another standard to worry about". FSA and BH collaborated to try and end the BB30/GXP wars, they also tried to market the standard as "stiffer" because the bottom bracket shells were wider. What people didn't realise is that BB30 aimed to get the cups inboard again to make the Q factor better, this trend for wider and wider bottom brackets isn't comfortable on all-day rides, and it isn't terribly natural either (Graeme Obree will back me up).
I hope SRAM do get it right, and that everyone else agrees to use it. I really hate most current pressfit standards, BB30 in particular for being so unbelievably problematic.

I am still running triple crankset and old school bottom bracket (yes, 10sp is now old school). The single speed crankset crowd stares at my machine with arrogance until I kick their silly assses down the descent. These new bottom brackets offer nothing new to performance...at all.

Well, not quite. DUB is a spindle fit standard. There is a DUB-pf30, as well as a DUB-bb30, and also the threaded BSA. GXP will go away, but the frame fits are the same.
