    ive never realized that dealing with jewelry would need some physics and chemistry (the structure of the stone and refractive indices) I think it’s really fascinating. I love your channel and I can’t help but think that you’re so pretty and cute and everything beautiful 😞🩷

    I personally really like the eye effect. It's like an optical illusion, and it's super mesmerizing.

    • @kashinimeyo
      @kashinimeyo 5 месяцев назад

      It’s not an optical illusion- it’s actually light being unable to escape the refraction of the stone due to the angle of the cuts.

    Can you talk about Jann Paul’s new Octagonn Nova cut? It’s a cross between a round brilliant and a Portuguese cut, so it’s much less busy than Portuguese but is still super sparkly with 137 facets and a floral/snowflake-like pattern in the center

    It's actually a fantastic cut for stones that have comparatively little fire despite their indices of refraction being relatively high, such as spinel or tourmaline, but the thing about this cut being ideally suited to lighter colored stones is still very true, but not because you're aiming for more fire, but for the same reason that emeralds get faceted so often with deep pavilions: you want the depth of the cut to reinforce the color of the stone instead of relying too heavily on the internal reflections to do so. While this cut does work fairly well with stones like corundum, you want to avoid the more vibrant colorations as those have a peculiar light dispersion quality to them that leads to the cut not showing much flash and fire. Paler colors of corundum are perfectly viable, though, just make sure to adjust all of your angles in your stone faceting planning software for the relevant specifications of your gemstone so it can be optimized properly and you can avoid as many dead zones as possible.

    How does diamond vs. moissanite compare in the Portuguese cut? Would the eye effect be more or less noticeable in moissanite? Thank you so much for the educational content, I've never seen this cut before but I love it

    • @BijouLab
      @BijouLab  5 месяцев назад +1

      My pleasure! It can be noticeable in either; it’s less dependent on whether it’s diamond or moissanite in this case and more dependent on the cut quality.
