Well not necessarily. Emilio's car is faster, but he didn't drive perfectly. Reiji did, and that can make a bigger difference. I once did a whole campaign using only the taxi, and I made it pretty far. I even beat the London City Champ with the taxi. However, before anyone calls BS, I am not lying. I had to try many many many MANY times before I could win. I also used dirty tactics like making racers crash into cars or buildings and such, this along with the really good handling of the taxi made me win every race, however I could NOT beat the World Champ with the taxi. Sometimes skills are better than speed. Just putting that out there.

Pay attention to rivals image, city sky, vehicle modelling of Midnight Club, they are cartoonish compared to GTA 3. Not every cartoonish graphics back in 1999-2001 are better than real textures and real life based graphics.

We should never mess with the Queen of Ki- I mean the King of Queens. Ladies first - even when street racing. Cops will absolute ram their car straight into another stationary car, without remorse or restraint - even if there's a car right beside it, and the two drivers are talking peacefully and calmly. Will Smith is not the Fresh Prince, Kareem Windross is. Taxi cabs are _absolute tanks_ - and you _do not ever_ wanna mess with the cabbies that drive them, because they will _mess you up_ - and then take your pink slip - and then have a cop car run you/your car over.
I use to rage hard AF when I was on a good run in midnight club 1 and 2 and suddenly smack some random shit and come to a complete stop. you crashed in this game and you might as well restart the race.
This was the first ever game I remember playing when I finally became conscious of my own existence. Crazy how I finally found it without looking for it.

After the days of Rush or Crusin in the N64, this was a new challenge for me when this first came out. I used to have this game, but I did manage to beat it 100%. Looking back, it does show its age, and the AI races unfairly. And the New York picture showed the Twin Towers. Sad times...

God comparing this to midnight club two, same series but the second one was just a massive upgrade, better graphics, physics, cars, and just in general better gameplay. Though to be fair, this game is still good, it's just outclassed by it's younger brother.

Ahhh, this is where it all started.. actually, no... Midtown madness is where it all started. I am glad I was able to follow the franchise from start to finish.
God comparing this to midnight club two, same series but the second one was just a massive upgrade, better graphics, physics, cars, and just in general better gameplay. Though to be fair, this game is still good, it's just outclassed by it's younger brother.
But is the shortcuts better here or some easier parts to play through or drifting, maybe its more colourful???

The maps feel very organic, no strip of street looks like it was unplanned, or made for a reason.
The simplicity is also great.
If only I could play the game again ;_;

I used to play this all the time when I was younger. I didn't have an sd card, so i had to replay it over and over. It was still fun, and that's what made it even more fun.
Larry Muller's truck is the first one I go for, and beat NY with it

If you played the first smugglers run game and had it saved on the memory card you would get the dune buggy in this game

I had this and the gba version. Lost the ps2 version and my gba version hardly works. I really wish I could go back and play these games again. Midnight club was a part of my childhood

This was a great game and a early version of GTA 3 really. I remember the one guy in the purple car? was impossible to beat unless he wrecked at a certain part of the race.
It’s because of this game, that I am the man I am today.
At the time, this was awesome.
