I think Midnight Club II is the reason I started to love JDM and Acid Trance. 20 years later, I finally made my dream come true and driving an US built `96 Honda Accord Coupe with some aftermarket stuff on German streets at night listening to Acid Trance!
The amount of verbal abuse you get in this game from characters is insane it's pretty cool since it gives you that racing vibe where everyone knew each other
Your complaints about the vehicles lack of options is actually a PLUS to me. Each vehicle in this game has a strong sense of character / identity. This is something that completely goes out the window once heavy emphasis on customization became mainstream. It was something I personally loved about the game. The cars are like the characters and character is something often lacking in racing games.
Midnight Club II is my favorite because of nostalgia, and the chaotic nature of the game. One thing that Midnight Club II does better than a lot of other racing games is that it feels genuinely rewarding to finish first due to the challenging nature of each race. Some races took me hours to complete, which is why it felt so good to finally beat the game. I don't really feel that with other titles. Taking first place feels like...eh. Here's another issue, newer racing games don't even require you to get first place anymore, where as throughout all MC titles, you're required to take number one or you can't progress. I really appreciated that about MCII.
I've beaten this game for the first time recently, and to me it's a great example of frenzy and fun, but it's true that it can be frustrating at times when you're stuck in the same race for a while (Savo's 3rd or Kenichi's last, for example), though the satisfaction when you finally beat it makes up for it imo. I personally didn't have any issue with non-licensed cars or the lack of customization, there's a point where you're so focused on the races that you don't even care, and I think it's part of the game's vibes. Anyway, I've liked this game so much, and I'm gonna have good memories of it for quite a while.
Midnight Club II was one of those games I played consistently as a kid, but never beat it. I remember not getting so close to beating it, but it was the first race in Paris with the mixed checkpoints that stopped me from beating the game. It took me years to finally pass that race. After that, I probably beat the game like three or four times lol
I think they justify it by saying they've consolidated all the mechanics of those games into these singular, "decade to develop" type titles like GTA and RDR. I'm sure GTA 6 will have a big street racing element. But I agree, it's just not the same.
My personal favorite Midnight Club. Its primitive, restrictive and much less customizable or in-depth than MC3, LA, or any modern racing game, but its still full of character, vibes, culture (tokyo, paris), chaotic and tense gameplay, and I have a boatload of childhood nostalgia for this game on top of all that. Also, MC2 and MC3 had the best soundtracks.
Midnight club 2 will forever be my favorite game of all time and the race I was stuck on for literal YEARS was Savos 3rd race with the unordered checkpoints, shit would make me so damn mad
I was never very connected to the music of my time, I always preferred classical or 70's rock, but Midnight Club II was it for me. The game doesn't have tuning because the soundtracks are so finely tuned already. I'm grateful for this game which made me feel connected to the trends of my era. Nyx, Silver Screen, Electrified, Rococco, MCII by Blu Warta, still freaking bangers.
Man, I remember using the Midnight Club 3 connectivity with the PSP back in the day. Don’t know if anybody remembers that feature, but it had me enamored with both the console and portable versions.
I've been trying to look up the connectivity features because I wanted to mention it, but I can't find anything. What could you do with both of them? Did it unlock extra content or let you pick up where you left off?
@@Wubsy96 If you mean cross-connectivity between the regular MC3 Dub Edition and the special Remix version, yes. The Remix version had a feature where you could take saved data from the normal game and use it along with the new content that the Remix version brought. However, if you mean cross-play between PS2 and PSP versions on LAN Multiplayer, I'm not sure.
6:40 you do know that you can disable the cinematic camera in the options right???? That way it's less annoying when you use weight transfer on the bikes.
Some of my best memories in gaming came from this game. Playing multiplayer on the og Xbox with my cousins chasing each other around with cheat codes where we could shoot rockets at each other and blow each other up.

I never played this entry, but played all the other ones. LA is my favourite one, played so many hours online watching myself climb up the online leader boards was a lot of fun. And the story mode in that game was awesome, with great car selection and customization options. What a game!
8:03 this is where I have to disagree. It's a racing game. The whole point of a racing game IS coming in first. Otherwise what's the point of the other AI being there if you only need to beat the crew leader? That's like complaining about having to K.O. all your opponents in a fighting game. That doesn't really make sense. You're supposed to be the best street racer in the world, you don't become the best by finishing 4th every race. Also at 8:25 that wasn't crappy checkpoint detection you just straight up missed the finish dude. Otherwise good video
I remember playing this game when I was about 5 years old, and I managed to beat it. Played it several years later when I was around 17-18 and I took so many attempts on Savo's unordered Paris race that I eventually looked up a route to see why I couldn't beat him there.
Midnight club 2 was my childhood. What a blast. I would pretend to go get my "fake girlfriend" at a store in the map, then I would choose another place and call it home. My best friend would follow and do the same in split screen. ☂️
The coming first is the main thing that makes this game so memorable and enjoyable and challenging. Restarting over and over, modifying routes and cars to take makes sure u remember the map thoroughly.
I played this one a few years ago, looking for games I played as a kid. I had played 3 but only 2 was on PC so I went with it, I was surprised just how much fun the arcadey gameplay is with all the special abilities!
I honestly find the track design in MC2 to be the best in the series. It's the most demanding track design, but it also means you really have to learn the ins and outs of every city, which aren't always the most obvious either. While the checkpoint placements don't necessarily flow together the best, the amount of mastery that they demand makes winning a race ever more satisfying. MC3 made its maps and checkpoints far easier to follow, making map knowledge not that needed most of the time. And when it would demand some, it was usually just about moving couple of blocks from where you're on currently. The Tokyo map too is far easier compared to its MC2 counterpart, but in that case I actually prefer it because the 2's version has just way too much unnecessary clutter everywhere, making almost all side roads a pain to navigate. If only the tracks themselves had stayed as demanding though. And then there's LA. LA's tracks are far too easy, to the point map knowledge is barely relevant in the game. The moments you get some shortcut options are far too rare, and when you do get some, they're way too straight forward to require any thinking. But hey, at least it isn't LA Remix, which has insultingly simple tracks and the game makes you race on them over and over again. Even the final race is just a combination of few of them, just further emphaising how you have gone through this same races way too many times. At least the Tokyo career just copypasted the MC3 tracks. But which game do I prefer? I like them for different reasons. LA has the best customization and immersion and a freaking cockpit too so you can take in the horrible neon lights you installed into your garish looking Lambo. But the career progression doesn't feel like it has a proper sense of escalation. The characters are at least amusing, especially thanks to the main character being a goofball. MC3's career is probably the best in the series, having a great pacing and increasing the difficulty at a fairly good pace as it goes on. I recently did a 350z playthrough of the whole normal career. The final races were a pain with this slowass C class car, and I somehow made Ceasar's races glitch so that all 3 of them were exactly the same. MC2 is the most unique experience with its cartoon character rivals and bonkers track design combined with surprisingly high level of challenge. 2 is probably the most satisfying to beat, but its lack of car customization does make it feel like you can't replay it as often, as every playthrough will be very similar with one another. Though my recent playthrough was on howhardcanitbe9 which turned it into absolute hell. I have the final Paris unordered race perfectly memorized now. Also I enjoy MC3's controls way more than 2's, as those have a bit of clunk to them still. LA meanwhile feels very different and unique, but it now lacks the sense of speed 2 and 3 had. I like it as its own take on the MC formula, feeling a little more grounded when it comes to handling, while 2 and 3 are these super tight arcade controls that don't give a damn about any level of believability. Oh and I love how MC2 uses its soundtrack. Almost every rival has their own theme songs and those songs are even given different mixes which the game varies between when ever you start a new race or restart, syncing the song to the race countdown too.
I remember playing this growing up. If you burnout at the start line and move left to right before the race begins. You could get a head start on the other racers. I did this in the viper
6:39 You're able to disable the "Cinematic Camera" in the game's settings, which stops the camera from moving when going off of a jump, or doing weight transfer in a motorcycle
Yes, on most occassions you may as well just use the car you win since they are more or less an instant upgrade over the the previous one you used. There is one exception for me which was Nikko's first race where I used the Stadt because of how rainy and slippery the race was. The Stadt has very excellent grip regardless of the speed you give up.
You can deactivate the movie camera in the options menu but you have to deactivate it on every new game again. Without it motorcycle driving is super enjoyable.
Your complaints are petty l, this is a very old game and one of the most underrated of all time. It’s fun!!!!! Fun is a lost concept and the reason I don’t play modern games
When I was a kid I never would've imagined that I could play this on my phone nowadays anytime anywhere. It's crazy!! Technology came a long way,I'm thankful for it
It’s a misleadingly tough game for sure. The difficulty spike in some of the races was pretty steep, and tbh I had to look up a couple of walkthroughs on how to beat some of the unordered races.
@@Under10Hours Jesus you make me want to post a playthrough because there are totally unique ways that unordered races can be beaten even ones that aren't in a walk through

once you go online and learn the fishtailing ( hanbrake + gas and drifting left to right) it was brand new game for our CTF-racing community... those was the golden age of gaming i would say on behalf of many great players that i have met during those times.... great example search for video named '' Midnight club 2 - afterlife'' that's me with nickname ''Shifter''
Yeah I’m really looking forward to playing 3! I played it some on PSP back in the day, but I don’t think I ever got around to finishing it. That’ll be changing soon!
Ironically, I’ve always preferred 2 over 3, since the day 3 came out. I just preferred the feel of 2. To me 3 was just okay. That’s definitely not the majority opinion however.
One big thing of note in MC2 compared to all the other games in the series is the significantly higher difficulty level of the AI as well as the world design being far less forgiving. Only time the MC series got that hard again was MC:LA on launch where the difficulty was way overtuned ans quickly nerfed.
I like MC2, but in my opinion some of the final non-ordered races are pure pain when it comes to difficulty. I remember one race against the last rival you literally can only do one order that is "correct" and you had to get a perfect run without any mistakes to win. It was rewarding in the end but it also felt dumb.

I do somewhat agree with "why do X thing in a game if you can do it IRL?" because that's how I feel with The Sims Series. Although, my argument against that, at least for Sim Racing, is that I don't think I will ever be able to drive so many amazing sports cars and race cars, on any famous track in the world, in comfort and on a whim. Neither will I think I will be able to tune said cars to do amazing things or to race in fun and alternate settings.
I prefer MC2 over MC3. Licensed vehicles never bothered me because that’s how the series started off: I wasn’t expecting anything. Plus the characters give so much more personality to the game. In MC3, rivals don’t talk, and their car is the personality; it’s a step down especially from the OG MC because they had pictures of characters so you can kind of put a face to the name and see what they would say. Lastly is the music, it may be my copy of MC3 but I absolutely hate how slow you have to scroll through the music. If you scroll too fast the incorrect song will begin to play than the one advertised on screen, or not play at all
Sad to see you dislike motorbikes. If you didnt know, there is an option to remove that nauseating close up camera when weight transferring. I loved the bikes in the game. They feel very much like a glass cannon, where you gotta be skilled to drive one but it is so rewarding. Truly one of the best childhood games in my life.

Ah
A game of culture and memories
So nostalgic
+😇
Your content is amazing, made bring back my ps2 to remember all the classic racing titles, a new subscriber here!
I remember playing this growing up. If you burnout at the start line and move left to right before the race begins. You could get a head start on the other racers. I did this in the viper
i miss the old rockstar

6:39 You're able to disable the "Cinematic Camera" in the game's settings, which stops the camera from moving when going off of a jump, or doing weight transfer in a motorcycle
Yes, on most occassions you may as well just use the car you win since they are more or less an instant upgrade over the the previous one you used.
There is one exception for me which was Nikko's first race where I used the Stadt because of how rainy and slippery the race was. The Stadt has very excellent grip regardless of the speed you give up.
One of my favourite games from back in the day
You can deactivate the movie camera in the options menu but you have to deactivate it on every new game again. Without it motorcycle driving is super enjoyable.
It's been 20 years since I played this and I remember everything that was shown in this video.
Still one of my favorite racing games over 20 years later
One of the best game soundtracks of all time.
Your complaints are petty l, this is a very old game and one of the most underrated of all time. It’s fun!!!!! Fun is a lost concept and the reason I don’t play modern games
Also the intro music and look of this game was so futuristic at the time just a great game.
When I was a kid I never would've imagined that I could play this on my phone nowadays anytime anywhere. It's crazy!! Technology came a long way,I'm thankful for it
2:16 that was my favorite reace in MC2
Terrific game, MC3 Dub Edition was quite a let down compared to this.
Not even close.
6:40 you can turn off cinematic camera in any of the options menus (including the in-game one)
You just made me go play this play again
Such Nostalgia
I remember this game being too hard and couldn't get past the first city
It’s a misleadingly tough game for sure. The difficulty spike in some of the races was pretty steep, and tbh I had to look up a couple of walkthroughs on how to beat some of the unordered races.
@@Under10Hours I heard the game gets extremely hard in Tokyo
@@Under10Hours Jesus you make me want to post a playthrough because there are totally unique ways that unordered races can be beaten even ones that aren't in a walk through
It does for sure, but it's a really fun city nonetheless!
It ain’t hard trust me it fun
soundtrack was baller for this game
8:24 first time?
6:27 what a finish!
Maaaaaan i remember playing this game when i was a kid and struggling to finish it but i still think it's a great game, very chaotic
Yeah it’s incredibly chaotic, and it gets really challenging by the end. I had a ton of trouble as a kid finishing it too 😂
My favorite glitch was the no rider glitch when you flash your headlights as you challenge another racer as you fall off the motorcycle lol
I just love the atmosphere and vibe of this game.
I dont know why they give us only the bike helmet that goes along with the colour of the but they did'nt give us the bike suit only the ai have them on. Is there any way to get the full suit or no?
No
This game was so tough, which was what made it so satisfactory to beat.
This game was a gauntlet thrown in the face of racers everywhere. If you beat it, you deserve a pat on the back and a huff of nitrous. You've earned it.
I used to play this day in and day out in my Xbox when I was little. The god damn memories. I don’t have a console anymore so I can’t play it anymore and it makes me really said cause the gaming experience on this was unmatched
You can play on PC if you had one or using emulators on phone.
you can turn off the closeup camera when you use weight transfer on the motorbikes it called cinematic camera and its on by default
once you go online and learn the fishtailing ( hanbrake + gas and drifting left to right) it was brand new game for our CTF-racing community... those was the golden age of gaming i would say on behalf of many great players that i have met during those times.... great example search for video named '' Midnight club 2 - afterlife'' that's me with nickname ''Shifter''
My favorite MC game is that you are playing and showing in your video the Midnight Club 2 ❤😊
Midnight Club 2 and 3 😀👍🙌
My favorite would have to Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix.
I play it on PCSX2 and keep coming back because it's so much fun.
One of the best Games ever. Grew Up trying to win all races! ❤
To add on, if you enjoyed 2, you'll LOVE 3. It improves on 2 so much, and it's imho the fastest paced racing game I've ever played.
@@Under10Hours PSP version of that game is awesome! It's a shockingly similar experience for a handheld.
@@Under10Hours make sure you get the dub edition remix with the Tokyo addition.
@@Cooley93 Already got it covered 😎
Best midnight club game period to me. So much fun even to this day
One big thing of note in MC2 compared to all the other games in the series is the significantly higher difficulty level of the AI as well as the world design being far less forgiving.
This was a very well made video
Great video, hope you've been alright btw!
Hey! Long time no see! I've been doing pretty well. This computer science course is winding down, and the worst is behind me I think!
How are you? I saw on Twitter you've been in a funk. Everything getting better? (if you'd rather DM me that's cool too)
@@Under10Hours Ya bit of a funk, plannin on trying to find work again is all, so I get these big bouts of anxiety! I wouldn't wanna bore someone I barely know with it, but uh THANKS for following either way!
I had kinda forgotten I never followed ya on there, and plan to watch some more of your vids since I guess I look at my sublist at the worst times and only barely see your vids! I really appreaciate them!
But fuck, thanks for even commenting and asking, super nice of you! Can't wait to see what's in store for the channel :)
@@BlindedOtaku it’s all good! I’m in a wild computer science class that’s 6 days a week, 12 hours a day so I dropped to 2 videos a month. That might be part of it.
And I’m glad you’re doing better! I’m sure you’ll find some kind of work soon. Times are certainly weird so take it one day at a time :)
@@Under10Hours Thanks, really! Can't wait for the next video! Take care and good luck in class!
@@BlindedOtaku thank you!
Yeah I should have looked more into that honestly. I completely missed the camera option to turn off the cinematics. I've been making a note to check more settings before diving into games for this reason.
@@Under10Hours that's nice to hear! 😃
one of my favourite arcade racers ever, before everything was bogged down with branding bullshit
Actually no, the others 2 games get improved with licensed vehicles.
*MC 3 DE Remix along with MC LOS ANGELES are My faves*
I love mc. Licensed cars or not idc I want another one. Mc3 remix remastered would be great too
