As long as it has the same notes or you think it compliments each other, I mostly layer with Bath and Body cream and spray as a base. Then I add Juliette has a Gun. Then, around 20m later, I add my fragrance of the day. It intensify and makes my fragrances perform like i need it to. I do that to my whole body, hair and clothing. If I want just the original smell of the fragrance with no other layered scents, I moisturize with Eucerin fragrance free lotion &/ Neutrogena Fragrance Free body oil.
Most ppl tend to take hot water showers which does dry out skin and hair. I find cold water makes my body work harder to heat up from the inside so it pushes my fragrance more.
This is probably why my fragrances haven’t been projecting lately, I took cold showers during the summer, then switched to hot showers during the fall/winter. My body seemed to “heat up from the inside” (according to Ayurveda/Chinese Medicine, cold showers/baths will allow Yang/Agni to flow outwards, which improves core body temperature and strengthens microcirculation) which improved projection, and improved circulation in extremities as well. Do you still take cold showers during the winter?
@@RobertLaTuso i do enjoy my hot showers too just allow ur body temp to level before applying. I like to finish off with cold water for 30 sec to a min, starting from the halfway mark working up colder.
You’re sooo right!! I always thought you needed freshly washed skin to make your fragrances last but lately it hasn’t been working BUT , like you, I always moisturize after I shower. The very next morning if I don’t have time to shower again, when I apply my fragrances it does last much longer on my “not freshly washed clean skin.” I always thought it was bc of my body heat.
Rather than just sweat, it may be the natural skin barrier also called sebum barrier or acid mantel that enhances the fragrance. After a shower, this thin "surface level" is removed and is rebuilt during the following hour or so...
Also oily fragrances are very good for lasting in my experience. Sometimes they don’t project as much as more alcohol-based ones but they certainly last for ages!
Great advice! Yes - I have only recently been playing around with lotion and fragrance layering combos and I have asked myself, "Why did you wait so long to do this?!?!" It has been so fun! Its like opening up new level on a game - LOL! It can tweak the scent, enhance it and make it last a LOT longer! I've always used lotion and moisturized my skin (which makes fragrance last longer anyway) but it used to be only lightly scented lotions...I mean - buying lotions with strong fragrances themselves (bath and body works, victoria secret etc.) and then pairing them with perfumes...It has been a game changer! xoxo
I find Molecule 01 + patchouli to be such a great scent on its own (one of my signature scents) but I do layer it with Jovoy Psychedelique all the time and it works.
I've found that Vaseline works better than lotion. I always apply Vaseline to pulse points, then Molecule 01 or 02 first if my fragrance needs a boost.
I would add : use a shower gel that will not be agressive towards your skin. I live in France and almost only use what you call « french pharmacy », so for me a « huile lavante » (oil cleanser). My favorite is Topialyse from SVR and I also have in the same range my body cream. But first, please, don’t be agressive towards your skin when you wash it!!! 🙏🏼
I am a Topyalise huile lavante fans as well. Can't go back to any other shower gel!!! It keeps your natural oil and adds a thin layer as well, so your skin is ready to make your fragrance bounce!

I too have dry skin, Sebastian. I make my fragrances last longer by making my own fragrances. I became so disappointed by weak designer, clone and even some niche fragrances that I began to order perfumer's absolutes. oils and synthetic aromatics. I've always had a reliable intuition as to what will work with what when I am cooking or baking and I am happy that this seems to translate into fragrance as well. So far I have produced 3 fragrances that IMO are as good or better than anything in my collection. For "Earth", "Forest" and "Ketoret" (biblical incense replication) I use mostly natural distillations with just a couple synthetic aroma chemicals. The concentration of oils, absolutes, etc to alcohol is nearly 50/50. The first time I wore my own fragrance "Earth", a female police officer that was walking by stopped me to ask what I was wearing. She said it was amazing and that I should market it.
I use unscented shower gel, and apply unscented body lotion before the perfume. Also spraying the perfume onto parts of my body - arms, neck, hair - that won’t make me anosmic, but rather smell it again and again during the day. Spraying the clothes do make it last longer, I’m just not a big fan of it …
Tom Ford Lost cherry last 10 hrs on me, but everyone else complains about performance. If I put it on my clothes it's nuclear. It always shocks me that people complain about its performance.
Great tips. I must say though, I have a different experience when I spray fragrance straight out of the shower. Fragrances do last on me that way. I don't have dry skin, so that may be a factor.
I’m totally anosmic to molecule 01 but I hate 02. I don’t think it’s “light” at all. I helped someone at the gym the other day and I could tell he had an ambroxan based fragrance on and I could barely breathe as I was standing next to him. It has a muskiness and pungency that I don’t think works well as a main note. Maybe…maybe it could be used in very small quantities and have a pleasant effect but as it’s used, I’m not a fan. In fact I think the entire molecule line smells like bug spray. Molecule 05 smells like corn silk to me. I don’t want to smell like corn.
I’ve been putting on cerave lotion after showering, then applying fragrance just like Sebastian and most of the comments mention. However, I watched a Roja Dove video on RUclips who said to put the perfume on first, then lotion. Basically, locking it in. Now I’m confused. Any thoughts on that idea?
Has anyone tried adding vodka? For example, a small portion in a travel atomiser, and the rest is your favourite perfume? It’s just a thought, but maybe it could help the rate of evaporation slow down, and act like a ‘fixer’ so the scent hangs around longer.
I am wearing Initio Magnetic Blend (another perfume extender/amplifier) today with Floraïku Sleeping on the Roof, which has horrible longevity. Both are samples. Magnetic Blend definitely works to extend it but it’s so dang expensive for a just a synthetic musk. May have to look into the Molecules next. To increase longevity in general, I only spray the back of my forearm and my hair. Anywhere else a scent quickly fades away.
I feel ick if I don’t shower every morning, don’t feel as clean if I shower the night before. I use a non scented shea body cream, then I put on my fragrance.
I care more about scent than performance and i'm not a collector. Just a guy starting to buy scents so i only have 6 and like 7 or 8 decant's and samples to test. Thus, i don't exactly have everything so when people say it's long lasting on them, normally i don't have it. I'm also proudly a crowd pleasing scent lover. I'm not big on the "harder to wear" niche stuff. So some popular fragrance scene scents i just wouldn't wear so i wouldn't know the performance.
By the way, should the skin lotion you put on ahead of the fragrance be oil-free, or does it need to have oil in it to work? I have an oil-free skin lotion and I find that fragrance dies on it.

I apply to face masks which gives a couple of days off scent. Use bk scents for how to make fragrences.
Thanks for the tips.
I just buy a big bag of travel atomisers & take my fragrances with me. Lotions & primers just don't work on my skin.
Thanks for sharing!!
Buy small decants bottles from Amazon etc and carry it in your man bag or small pocket of your trousers.
Ha yes!!
A little (just a tinny dab) of Vaseline on the neck, and apply the cologne after extends the longevity of the fragrance.
Should work!
Lotion, solid cologne then liquid cologne! :) Your welcome!
Great video 😍
Tom Ford Lost cherry last 10 hrs on me, but everyone else complains about performance. If I put it on my clothes it's nuclear. It always shocks me that people complain about its performance.
Great tips.
I must say though, I have a different experience when I spray fragrance straight out of the shower. Fragrances do last on me that way. I don't have dry skin, so that may be a factor.
Weird. Do you have dry skin?
@@ThePerfumeGuy no. I have normal skin.
That makes sense then. This might be an issue with dry skin! 😀
Great tips 👌
Lotions and spraying my hair.
Shower,Lotion, and Vaseline works for me.
I've got 3AM, I really like the smell. But the longevity is mediocre. What would you recommend. Molecule 01. Or + mandarin? Or Iris?
Try cycle 001 with Diptyque’s Orphéon 🤫
I like Cycle 001 but I don't like promoting it as it's completely sold out sadly. But I can see that mix working so well together!!
I’m curious about that, too. I’d be worried about “bruising” the fragrance.
Has anyone tried adding vodka? For example, a small portion in a travel atomiser, and the rest is your favourite perfume?
It’s just a thought, but maybe it could help the rate of evaporation slow down, and act like a ‘fixer’ so the scent hangs around longer.
alcohol on top of fragrance that's already 80% alcohol?
First put youre perfume and after that must aply the body oil .roja dove stile.
what about Vaseline, do you use Vaseline, is Vaseline a good option?
I am wearing Initio Magnetic Blend (another perfume extender/amplifier) today with Floraïku Sleeping on the Roof, which has horrible longevity. Both are samples. Magnetic Blend definitely works to extend it but it’s so dang expensive for a just a synthetic musk. May have to look into the Molecules next. To increase longevity in general, I only spray the back of my forearm and my hair. Anywhere else a scent quickly fades away.
Oh yes I featured those Magnetic Blends in a previous video with a similar theme in the past! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy Good to know! I will go watch it now. Thanks!
You can find magnetic blend pretty discounted, I got mine from Saks off fifth for $125
Excellent tips and tricks Sebastian. Keep up the work!
More to come!
I feel ick if I don’t shower every morning, don’t feel as clean if I shower the night before. I use a non scented shea body cream, then I put on my fragrance.
Me too! I’m a morning showerer!! 🧼🧼🧼
Heck yes that's the spirit!!
Does Carbon by Aaron T Hughes work for boosting the projection of fragrances and their longevity? It's advertised to fix weaker fragrances
I haven't tried any ATH scents so sadly can't tell! :(
@@ThePerfumeGuy hi Sebastian ATH is a must try, highly recommend ❤
Has anyone tried shea butter first?
Target brand Up & Up "Advanced Repair unscented body lotion" is like $2.19 for a huge bottle. No scent
Perfect!! I'll check it out.
dior elixir and bentley intense imo..this 2 perfumes still there evn after shower..
By the way, should the skin lotion you put on ahead of the fragrance be oil-free, or does it need to have oil in it to work? I have an oil-free skin lotion and I find that fragrance dies on it.
Hi Sebastian, we need to discuss this tips with a perfumers,, can you plz,, that's will be a good idea if you like it,, thank you 👋
Which primer/ booster would you use for citrus scents? Has anybody tried Nefertum parfum Xponential Day Boost?
Would Molecule 01 work?
I bought it to layer with some of your perfume suggestions.. Avignon, Baccarat 540 and Bois d' Ambrette 😊
Yes absolutely. I would use it.
@@ThePerfumeGuy 👊🏻😉
Thx
Spry it on your clothes.
That's it✌️💪
