Thank you for your video. I am going to try fix my broken hook gear now on my 708 series that given to me by my aunty.. fixing it would bring great joy to her.
Thanks to your videos, I have just been able to change the hook gear and got the machine working again successfully, a model 760. Would never have attempted it if I hadn't found your video. Many thanks.
You are absolutely brilliant. Singer, of course, had long since abandoned quality by the time this really easy to sew with series came along. I have several pre-WWII Singers which are in perfect running condition. They lost me as a customer for anything more modern, the Necchis and Nelcos offered the same quality stitches and were made out of metal, not plastic designed to fail.
That's true. Perhaps it's because I've encountered singers with this problem a few times and never a broken Elna that I see these Singers as betraying what the company once stood for? Lack of experience, perhaps.@@InStitches
Thank you so much for making this! With your valuable help I've just replaced the shredded hook gear on an old Futura 1100 and set the hook timing again afterwards and it's working beautifully :) My 15-year old daughter is very pleased to have the machine back and running. It involved a hacksaw to get the old press-fit gear off, and the new one didn't have the hole for the rollpin, but I don't think it's moving anytime soon judging by the force required to drive it on. Thanks also for pointing out which threads were reverse on the nut and bobbin stay screw! That saved a lot of potential frustration. Cheers!!
Thanks, even though I don't have the ability to fix my machine, I liked the way you explained it. I will share this video with all my acquaintances on social media.
I've a 740 and am clueless to using them so appreciate your videos very much! I can't find it in your library, but did you do a follow up video on how to replace the hook gear as a part? Thanks very much for your thoughtful videos!
Thanks. Singer here in New Zealand have them in stock so the best option is to replace it but the repair works at a pinch. Especially during this lock down.
The spring in first video removing parts. You decided to leave it. As yours was secure minefell out. The loop thing under the feed dogs was held off the hook race with it I think. Anyway how do I put it back on lol. If not how do I remove the metal loop thing under feedog that now flops onto hook race?
Why in the world they make plastic gears ??? I have a singer filicita brazilian made and its timing is off and i hope i can fix it .. your videos are very informative 👍Thank you
Hey man, Great tutorial. I actually had the same problem on the 784 and managed to 3D print the gear, which worked like a charm. But it now seems that the needle is hitting the SIDE of the hook (so I must move the needle forward/tilt it). Is it possible for you to show how that can be done? Much appreciated!
Bruce Beukman South Africa I have a 740 machine with broken gear fortunately we have a local supplier and I managed to get a new gear. Following your tutorial to the letter I replaced the gear and refitted following your timing suggestions all is well except that the machine will not pick up the bobbin thread. Whatcould I have done wrong
Very nice video. It's helped me a lot. But there is a small fault. The spacer with a big chamfer is not in the correct position, there is a risk to damage the side gear.
Yes, I found that when I edited the video and showed rectifying it in the next video here - ruclips.net/video/YcV-9_2Y-5E/видео.html - It's sometimes difficult to see when working behind a camera :)
Thank you for your great videos. I have managed to replace the hook gear on my 720 as you demonstrated but it's still not sewing properly. It turns OK but sews with lots of loops on the bottom. I damaged a few bits getting them out and don't know if this is the cause. The plate that fits on top of the hook came off the rod that goes through and the little hook on it may have lost it's point. I cant find a new one to buy but I don't know if this is the cause because I can pick up the bobbin thread. I broke and glued the actuator lever but think it is working OK. What do you think I should try? Do you think it is the parts or the timing? This is addictive and I don't want to be beaten as I am 70 and got my 720 as a 21st birthday present. I replaced the top gear a couple of years ago but when i got it out this time it sewed a couple of seams and made a low groan and when i took the hook out the gear was broken and largely dust!
Thanks you for your video. I have a problem with my singer 700 machine: when installing the bobbin case, adjusting the bobbin case position finger and starting the sewing cycle manually (turns it towatd to me the hand wheel), the machine gets a little hard when the hook is in place travel is close to the point where the needle picks up the thread.
Hi, it's hard to say without looking at it but it could have a broken gear? Have a close look at it. It could also be jamming somewhere else in the system. Thanks.
I can't take the screws out without trying to strip them from the hook drive? I have Riccar 808E. It's really clean on the inside. I really need all the advice I can get
I bought a windertire for my 774 Singer online, the outer diameter is a little big, it didn't turn. I tried the hose washer, for my standard hose size, the outer diameter is a little small, didn't have enough contact, didn't work either! I wonder what is the size of your washer or hose?
Hello, great video can I get your opinion on a jam i'm getting after replacing the hook gear on a singer 720 ? I would like to give you a few pictures of the jams i'm getting. I might add I don't do sewing machine repairs for a living:)
Managed to fix it .... my feed dog was not timed correctly and was tugging on the thread before it was in the right spot and also seems I had a problem with my bobbin, it was glued and not level.
Grande contributo, molto utile, sarà che per caso sa dove posso trovare il manuale tecnico della singer 6790? abbiamo bisogno di fare una riparazione a casa.
Hello! Thank you very much for your videos ! It helped me a lot on my singer 720. I would be very interested in the video you are planning on making about timing of the gear and the feed dog. Thank you again

Thanks. Most makes including even Bernina and Elna were using plastic/nylon gears in their machines at this time.

Hi, thank you for your video. What is the part number ? It is not mentionned in the manual.

Thank you, we have replaced that gear from another video but it still wouldn't work. Now thanks to your video we have finally got the timing sorted
Glad it helped.
I must say that was a beautiful salvage job on the broken gear! Great job.

Do you by chance still have the 3D model and are willing to share it? My 784 gear broke down the same way. Thanks!

Make sure the needle is new and inserted correctly and that the needle bar height is correct.
