thanks for reviewing this one john i saw this at my lhs the other day but i didnt realize how big the control surfaces were.ill be getting one soon and 4 cell will surely be my favorite. never stop the RC
Looks like the perfect park flier. Thx guys!
Great info! Thanks a lot for taking the time to show the rest of us whats going on. Your info was really easy to listen to. You're a natural instructor! Thanks!!!
thanks Vic!
I just maiden my Timber X yesterday...love it
awesome! We had all 3 flying this morning - super fun!
I like the snow capped mt. Diablo in the background
Love the build videos. Never get old. So jelly of your field. Looks great. Nice flight.
Love that plane. Need one for sure.
so far it's great - hoping we get them all flying tomorrow if the weather is good.
Wow, what a thorough and educational build video. Well done!
Thanks David - tried to hit the main points.
What a Great Organized build video !!! you set a new standard for all the other RUclipsrs !! besides using all the correct name of the parts and visual aids you added comedy to make it more enjoyable.......some builds have manuals with pics that make no sense !!! keep up the Fantastic work and happy skies !!!
thanks Jo! Yeah build stuff is sort of dry but the nice thing with a plane this is there isn't much of it!
Just wonderful....a great plane as I also have Timber & Timber Jr. but not this model. I wished they made it with see thru windows like the Maule though.
Well done!
Thanks! The Maule wins for scale looks no doubt.
Looks fun Jon! Bigger ailerons is a understatement! Those are barn doors!
no kidding and if you synced up the flaps 1/2 the wing would be aileron lol
@@DiscoverRC LOL!!! Nexzt time you see Ken tell him my X-35 is ready to fly once I get some good weather. Tell him thanks :)
nice video and review
best on u tube !!!
thanks bluedec!
Nice looking plane. Great flying an show. Cheers :)
Thanks George!
Discover RC you’re welcome 😊
Nice Plane👍
I just picked me up one just now. It looks to fun!
awesome flying plane - have fun with it!
@@DiscoverRC always!
Seems like a capable and versatile plane. Just like the others👍
I think it's going to be a good one! :)
Cool mate
X will make Sundays great again!
lol Sundays are great when you can land your plane 😜
Looks like a little beauty👍🏻would be cool if they did a tiny Timber X. & yes could of had a battery hatch like tiny Timber. Nice video mate.
👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Tiny umx Timber X 3s powered 3d would be awesome!
Looks rad. Time to fpv it.
of course. it's always time to fpv it
I just picked up the BNF yesterday from RC Planet in Sandy, UT. Looking forward to flying it! Let's see how well that it flies on two feet of snow. 🤣
RC planet sounds like a nice shop! Have fun with it!
Thanks! It was my first time there. I live three hours away from Salt Lake city, do I venture into an RC shop any chance I get.
Rob's face at 0:52 hahaha!
0:49 :-D
Nice Timby
compact and powerful! Need those 4 cell packs to show up...
Great looking plane bud.. Very cool the fact you got one for each of the other guys too, should make for some great video.. If Rob can lay the Donut down ... lol Steve as Captain Donut ha ha ha .. Yup fits.. Nice looking plane, great build and nice flight.. She almost seems to just sit in the air.. lol Thanks for sharing.. :)
Gotta stop bringing the donuts because no flying gets done lol. You think we should stick with Captain Donut? You decide :) Yeah I am looking forward to flying it with less wind and after getting used to it. Seems like a solid plane!
Captain Donut? Hmmm .. lol
Nice review as always. Cool Spot. Still hoping Horizon will do a Carbon-Z Timber one day.
Thanks :) Agree 100% - the world needs a Timber Z!!!!!
Very cool, I have the timber, this looks even better. 4s is the way to go. That looks like a great place to fly. NSTRC
The original will always be a great model! Never Stop!
Getting one soon brother!!! Local Hobby Shop has one iv been 👁👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
nice!
Just ordered one, just curious now that you have had it for awhile, what did you find to be the best battery to use?
Thanks
Is it easy enough to fly that one going from a sport cub could try this next and ease into it slowly?
Great flight..jeff...uk
Cool👍
Thanks for the great video. I want to pick up one, but all my quad and wing stuff is running with Taranis gear. What receiver would you recommend. I’m new to planes. Also. Where you live? I can see Mt Diablo from my home too.
get the pnp version and you could use this rx. This would also let you do all the wing possibilities. www.amazon.com/FrSky-Taranis-Compatible-Receiver-8-channel/dp/B00RCAHHFM
In hope they make a Umx Timber X... I Absoulty love Both Umx and 1.5m Timbers. How does it perform with the Stol Slats? One thing they SHOULD have done is redesigned the battery hatch. They should have put the Battery hatch topside like the Umx. Also could have beefed up the gear. I had made a protector peice on the fuselage to keep the gear skirts from digging into the fuselage. Thats a issue with both Big and Baby Timbers.
umx 3d Timber would be very cool - also a carbon z Timber X! Yes the gear is a weak link and I wish they had redesigned it between the models. Just plain wire gear would have been better for strength. Ken really likes STOL so that's why he put on the slats - even without them you can get the plane really slow. He was getting better landings yesterday though especially with the wind. Maybe some skill and some slats helping to slow the ground speed over that lumpy path.
Yep. I want one. I wonder how it will compare to my Maule. The Maule has plenty of power but not quite the moves I think.
E-flite Maule? this is a different animal from the e-flite one.
@@DiscoverRC yeah. Well the x has definitely got more control authority but other than that they are pretty similar no?
They are similar in some ways. The X is a little smaller and of as you can tell the Maule is more of a scale model. There are other differences besides the control surfaces. Maule has a 40 amp esc, this one 50. Timber X is propped and powered more for 3D with a lower kv motor and larger diameter prop. Maule has a higher pitch prop - it should be faster on a 4 cell pack. So the Maule will win a drag race but not a hover contest.
This is going to be my next plane once the shop gets the next shipment. One thought about the rear horizontal spar. What about installing the carbon rod and adding a weight pod to the tail to make up the difference when wanting to 3D? Or is the tail heaviness not a problem for all round flight?
You could probably do that - even just try it without any weight. A solid cf rod should be enough.
When you do a formation flight can you try landing on top of eachother in flight and holding formation for atleast 5 seconds?
5 seconds......that's a loooong time lol
Ty4sharing. Nice plane .. nice vid ! Nice roll .. when first up... im sold.. just ordering...ty!!🤠 mjb erie..
thanks! Have fun with it! :)
°°•°●○☆•°°•☆●•♡♡🙃 if you're not crashing you're not flying... or you're just plain good, with that said I say your motto all the time... never stop the RC... that rings with me I say that all the time.. it doesn't matter if it's a cheap Toys R Us toy or a scaled-down replica of a Russian military 4 by 4 7.4 overpowered first gear with authority you can't beat it...wlp.. I'm not too happy I just got to six by sixes and they're both both slugs they don't move there's no overpowered Authority first gear so I bought the transmission and that even sucks so I'm done I think with wlp.. unless you can shed some light but I took them all apart put it back together backwards right now you can do if you got change the gearing in the differentials too much I put it back together and assist the ones I high speed with no power and go to the grass oh, the other one is so damn slow it's the command truck I think does not move do you have to buy all the Hub UPS to make it to where you want it no I hate that I'm not doing that, Tesla little light bulb 200 miles away wireless energy why the hell we still going out and buying rubber Wheels and fake fossil fuel Earth produces it I drive truck I did my tankers I went to my Wells that were totally dry two years later they're filled up... yea filled up oh, it's not a fossil fuel Earth produced it it's like her blood...
Yeah I didn't take my ADD today...
lol...I got the u like rc part!!
I am not a fan of the battery hatch on the bottom but if the plane is this nice it can be overlooked.
that's how I feel - would be ideal if it was a top hatch but the plane still flies great either way.
Yup, it's not a great design. I've got the Turbo and a MulitPlex FunCub. . . the FunCub is a lot easier to manage and I think flies as good or better.
Where is this park? That side of Diablo makes me think your in Clayton, but let me know.
So when you said that it stopped when you put the flaps on my Internet must have heard you because it actually stopped for about three minutes. LOL!
not planned I swear!
3D with floats!
someone needs to do 3 flying 3d with floats!
Hi, Scott from Concord. I actually live between your new site and Mt. Doom (where I fly most often). Where is this park from the video? It looks great. I have a TIMBER-X (about 3 weeks)
This is Dallas park in Antioch. It's ok but not that big. How do you like the Timber?
Speaking of GoPro, have you thought about mounting or can mount to shoot video through a modified windscreen?
there is no windscreen, it's just solid foam fuse. You could easily stick a camera on the plane as it has plenty of power to carry it. So you could do an fpv set up with an HD cam too like runcam or go pro. I haven't yet because it's too much fun just flying it los.
Has anyone added the leading edge slats yet? Do or don't? I see myself doing more STOL type docking around but do they heavily limit 3D ability?
never added them - plane was slow enough without and they would alter inverted and aerobatics.
Cool job on the build and flight Johnathan I did see on horizon's site video on this plane it looks cool for my style of flying mostly being 3d flying of course lol But the price is the deal breaker for me because my budget has become a bit tight lately but who knows I'll pick up one or the Value Hobbys 43 inch EPP Aerocub someday once my budget gets better?
You know sometimes waiting on a model can pay off as they often go on sale down the road. Depends probably on stock and popularity but might be worth keeping an eye on that. Don't know much about that Aerocub - did you check the reviews? We'll see how the Timber goes - should have a few flying soon.
Yes I did on there site one guy said the recommend power set up isn't the best so I have Omega 72g 1100kv,Turnigy 480 1024kv either one of those with a 3s 220 pack along with a 11x5 or 12x6 prop should do it justice the only I video I found is this one
ruclips.net/video/8ZVWxgdoCls/видео.html
Thanks for the vid. Nice flying, cool craft. I'm struggling to add elevator to the mix with flaps on my umx timber. I have the same transmitter as you. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks
Bret
You have an ix12? There is a subsection for flaps which already has an elevator mix tab.
@@DiscoverRC yes, the ix12.
I've been doing this less than a year. I have a lot to learn. I'll take a look at the subsection for flaps. Thank you.
@@DiscoverRC Hey, I found it lol. It was right in front of my face. The only other transmitter I've used was the DXe. Until today I've never done any mixing. Thanks
NEVER STOP THE RC
I Know this is older, may/may not get a response, BUT on low rates, r they by the book?
I too am planning to maiden mine on 3s 2200, steel horizontal stab rod. I have 2 smart 4s 2200's ordered.
Thanks!
hmmm did I set up low rates on this one? I don't remember...I would do it by the instructions tho. It's a responsive plane so if you want to tame down a little I would do that. I just put the steel rod in whenever there is that option. Good luck with the maiden!
Multiple sticker packs to differentiate for multiples in the sky?
lol great idea because I am afraid of starting to fly Steve's plane at some point while mine disappears over the horizon.
I wonder if I could order the wing assembly only & attach to the Original Timber..??
It does fit but the X has a much larger rudder than the regular Timber. But wings are interchangeable.
Many thanks.. I thought the tail area was bigger
I've got a question. I want to fly but at the moment I only have a 4s 3300mAh battery with me, but the recommended range is 2200mAh-3200mAh. Will I do any damage to the plane if I still use the 3300mAh?
I think the only problem is Will it fit in the plane?
Thinking about getting one. Would you change out the prop or can you?
you can easily change the prop. If you are flying 4s I see no reason to change the stock 13 x4; it flies great on this setup. If you are flying 3s you could go to a higher pitched prop say 13x6 but it flies fine on 13x4 there too.
I would paint mine safety orange just to make it easier for Rob to follow ☺
Grey on the bottom, grass green on top...makes it more fun for Rob :)
Are you going to FliteFest Ohio this year? I finally get to go and I would love to meet you!
not this year - wish I could make it to more events but hopefully someday! It would be awesome to meet you. Have a great time there!
@@DiscoverRC This may be their last year at Fury Field! You can't miss it!
is that because they are moving to the new golf course?
Love my original Timber. See no need to buy a clipped wing, slat-less version.
According to flite test it's the same fuselage so theoretically you could buy just the timber X wings and turn your original timber into the timber X. Apparently the X has more aerobatic capability
1st... Nice Jon, Wowwwzers & Danggg Your Lucky With (3) For Free... Thanks
We were lucky to get a discount on these, but not free :) Now we just have to avoid the mid airs!
@@DiscoverRC Plus Maybe A Few Feet Of Different Colored Ribbon On Each To Keep From Getting Confused When Flying Them Together? LOL
streamers! ok that has to happen lol
@@DiscoverRC Butt Then Again Jon, When Flite-Test & Others Do Multiple Same Plane Flies Together & Tears Them All Up It Is Pretty Funny! Yet It Turns My Stomach When People Break Their Pretty New Planes For No Reasons Except To Get Likes On You-Tube For Crashes On $200+ Planes/Drones/Cars Etc!? It's A Really Sick World When People Get Off On Destruction/Death... LOL
mines out for delivery, thinking about minwax polycrylic coating it to help it with hangar rash. does it really help? would it be worth it on a plane that barely has any paint?
I won't hurt it, but yeah there is no real paint to protect. We are already talking about painting them just so they stand apart.
It's been a while since you have made an unboxing video.
yeah sort of got away from that. Hoping to do more along with the usual stuff.
Nice! If a demon asks you "are you a God?" You answer "YES!" If your plane can do 3s or 4s you always take 4SSS! Rain looks less likely Sunday :) I will bring the 2200 4s packs for your Timber.
Obi Rob you'd put a 6s in this plane and yell from the mountain "LOPAKA LIKEEEEE!" Then you'd fly for 3 seconds smoke the esc and take BART back home.
@@DiscoverRC Ahh...my life so well summarized :)
OK good
My AS3X doesn't work I don't know what I'm doing wrong?
how do you know it isn't working? After plugging in it won't activate until some throttle is given.
Right it doesn't work on my turbo timber either.
Can i fly this with a dx5e ??
check the spektrum website for a download for the model - it should be possible.
See what you did now I have to buy a third Timber I want one.
lol well sorry, but you know all the Timbers are good planes :)
Don't try the water skiing on the puddle. It doesn't work. You guys can go all flying cowboys on those timbers. They look pretty sweet I'm a tundra Guy myself but maybe someday I will give the timber a work out. I haven't seen you all in awhile must be crappy weather there too. 8 inches of snow on the ground in n w Washington so I am going to try to fly my tundra on floats in the snow. NEVER STOP THE RC. now get those planes dirty. OHH YEAH!!! 😎
yeah rain storm after rain storm here - hoping to fly tomorrow. Tundra on the snow - nice! Never stop!!!
Any way someone that has a timber x could email me a pic of a side shot of the front? Mine took a little hard hit in the nose and it knocked the prop shaft crooked, but I took everything apart, don't see cracks in plastic motor mount, motor shaft spins perfect. But now it has a LOT of down angle on the motor. But I can't say for sure if that's normal. I need a good Condit one for comparison
Lol John you just like me planes first rest of the world comes second.... Never stop r/c it really does keep you young.. you won't know until you try it non RC heads...lol
New flying field?
this is an old spot I occasionally fly at and make videos.
@@DiscoverRC no trophy for that field
Should I get the 1.2m or 1.5m
depends what you want - sort of like deciding between a clipped wing or J3 cub. If you want the more powerful, aerobatic plane get the X. If you have a lot of 3 cell 2200s and just want a decent STOL and easier flying plane go with the 1.5.
Or get the 1.2m and buy the 1.5m wing parts (plus servos) separately.
How did you afford to buy 3 planes at once? 😊 I wish I had a friend like you who bought me a large plane? 😊
The apprentice batterie hatch mistake. Door WILL start opening.. The trick is close the door and tighten the screw . No weekly jet at new park?? Great job guys . This is the
Fedxflyer. No more giant headaches in the air 15k ft. RETIRED... Yeah Man.. All kinds of time. But broke as hell.. lol yup I can't stand sitting around man. Already seen the north American continent. So now what .
Oh yeah forgot about the Apprentice with that same hatch! That park is too small for anything but umx jets....we still don't have a good regular jet field. Retired! I've heard it can be hard to transition in some ways with the time you suddenly have. I don't know - road trip? You've already flown over every square mile of the country.
Definitely nice, but I'm disappointed this is not a bigger than original. As in like 2 plus meters.
I actually prefer a smaller wingspan. Easier to move around.
@@DoRC All the time, or do you sometimes fly any larger planes. My 2 meter planes and wings are just awesome, at times.
@@JoshWeaverRC eh. In have a few larger planes but they don't get flown because they are annoying to transport. I suppose if I had a larger vehicle I might feel differently. Honestly I fly fpv quads the most. They are just so darn convenient and I can fly just about anywhere.
Are you going to be at the field Sunday rain ? Like to come by soon and fly crash whos kidding
we are going to try for Sunday if the rain holds off - it's 50/50 right now.
@@DiscoverRC I'll check and if it's looking good I'll be there 🎮☔✈
Video tip I shoot all my videos with my gopro hero7 in 1440 and then edit them back to 1080 which gives me a little freedom to zoom in and not lose quality, here is a video of my UMX timber with some real close flybys. ruclips.net/video/p27hVxJARX0/видео.html
WTF YOU GOT DONUTS!!!!!!!!
we always got donuts!
POOR EXCUSE FOR LANDING GEAR BASE WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE FUSE....ONE HARD LANDING AND AAAHHHOOOPPPPSSSS....!!!
What are you a doctor or something? "Flys a little anemic" lol most say, need the 4s, shits f'ing slow with the 3
lol. yeah what are you an American lawyer? :p
I bought this plane based on all the high ratings but its not a fun flier because it really does not any dihyderal and is not relaxing to fly. If u want an aerobatic plane get an extra 300 or something. This is a high winger but too twitchy and will stall easy on slow flights. I have been flying 20 yrs
