From the Field -- E-flite Night Timber X 1.2m Flight Review

- This E-flite Night Timber X 1.2m was a recent addition to the shop (bit.ly/NgtTimberX) and is a really cool airplane that is extremely fun in the air. The airplane has great power and is very aerobatic, flying very neutrally being able to be programmed with tons of surface throw, so you can do almost anything with it. Assembly is super easy and quick as well and the airplane has lights all through it for some night ops (which I hope to get in at some point). Additionally, the airplane includes optional leading edge slats and the airplane was flown with and without in the vid. I think this'll be a good airplane for me to sharpen my weak aerobatic skills! 😉Spektrum file download available at thercgeek.com/Downloads #FlightReview #TheRCGeek #Aerobatics

Thanks for installing the slats. I am ready to madine mine and I appreciate you showing the difference. I have installed mine also. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Glad this was helpful. Have fun with the airplane! 😊
I love this plane . Not installed slats yet. Wish I could try without permanently bonding them in place. I fly mine with a 1500 mAh 120c Rated 4s. CHINA Hobby Line orange packs. Crazy vertical…unlimited. up to 5 min of pouring on the coal of & on. A 2200 mAh 4s 50 C does a great job if you want longer flight time but I can feel the weight difference. E Flight knocked it out of the park with this one. Awesome video 🎉
We have several upcoming events in my club, and the night flying after hours is about the most fun. We will be out tailgating dinners and camping out at our big warbird and jet events. So I just ordered one of these to join in on the night flying fun.
Cool!
A most excellent review, thank you. It's next on my "to buy" list.
Thanks!
Really nice review Chris. Always appreciate your channel.
Thank you so much!
Ya know Chris....I love these Timbers and my only gripe about them is 1. they messed up when they put the battery access in the bottom, and 2. the undercarriage is kinda poorly designed and that's on all those larger Timers. The micros are the bomb and so much fun. Great job as usual on the review.
I hear you. I did find the battery access a little curious, but workable. On the gear, , I think some nice hollow rubber tires would be the ticket. I’m not a fan of foam tires as a whole as they just don’t have any give.
Chris. Got one of these. Definitely a fun plane. Love the power on 4s. You need to find a spot to fly and check out the lights. Very cool... 👊👊😊
I’m hoping to. Will see what I can find.
That is my favorite battery compartment.. racking frackin snapping kraken....!!!!!!!"""
I have learned that I prefer no expo on rudder. A little easier to handle a taildragger on the ground
Cool. Expo is really about preference mostly getting the feel you’re looking for. It’s also model dependent as some models don’t need it and others it really helps.
It is definitely aerobatic!
It is indeed! 😊
Looks cool awesome review can you do a video showing every single plane you have
I've thought about doing a shop tour vid, but I can't seem to ever have the shop clean enough to do that, haha!
Thinking I'm gonna have to grab me a Timber Turbo. They look like so much fun.
They are a lot of fun!
1.2 is a jessica!! & Umx TT is the same. Both are awesome.. unless you just get the umx TT. And rudder is partially broken and the uptrim cannot be adjusted unless you do it manually along with all of a sudden the elevator stops working.. I just pulled it out of the box I got two flights out of it and yeah now I get to make that phone call along with hopefully send it back only to wait for another one.. pour me boohoo I'm pissed.. but she is beautiful both versions I will wait for her yes I will.. I like the new v900.. 140 mph out of the box..holy sheep s*** Batman.. even a professional cameraman /operator has a hard time keeping it in the view LOL! Oh and I made sure I picked on him because of that LOL. Steve you're fired out of a cannon, and into the sun LOL
Nice🛩👍
Thanks! 😊
Like “Cure” the band...impressive as that is an obscure band. (In Vader’s voice) Do you keep the Timber’s wings level when initiating the AS3X with throttle, or just go for it?
Haha, oh there’s lots of obscurity in my head. 🤪. The AS3X sets itself on power up, so I just go for it once it’s powered on and connected to the rx. 😁
And you said your not good at 3D! Looked really good to me.
Thanks man!
Hi Chris, Thoughts on using a Speckrum 4S 3200mAh 50C using the carbon fiber rod on the stabilizer. I hoping for longer flight times. Thank you in advance Chris!
I don’t see that as an issue at all. Should help lighten it up a little bit, but you may find the flight time may not change hugely.
I enjoy the plane but HATE loading the battery. Thanks for the video Chris.
I get that! I think they updated that on their latest one, but I could be wrong.
Looks like a trainer, but climbs straight up and is very agile. I'm learning to fly now with an Aeroscout. You made that plane do some crazy moves...it was impressive. The control surfaces seem to be capable of very large movements so it could really get away from a beginner like me.
Thanks and Great choice on the AeroScout! Yeah, this night timber is a very aerobatic airplane. Something to work up to.
I'm thinking of getting a timber x but would like to buy the turbo wing also so I get the best of both worlds. Lots of rudder and elevator but nice big stable wing for when it's windy. Any thoughts on if it would mess up the as3x if I did this please?
I suppose that would work, but I’ve not given it much thought. Are the wing chord lengths the same? If so, then may not be too bad. Otherwise, the turbo timber is actually quite aerobatic stock.
@@Thercgeek ok thx
Do they have RC tiger tanks? If so you should try to get your hands on one.
I have a Sherman tank that I picked up a while ago.
Hey Chris, I was wondering if you still take this plane out to fly? Also if you just don't fly some of your planes at all... You have a lot, and surly some you don't like.
I just don’t have the space to keep all of them. This is a really fun flyer, but generally I tend to gravitate to the warbirds and jets most of the time. So, this one I ended up giving to one of my club mates after a number of flights.
@@Thercgeek got it
If you had a choice now, would you still put on the slats?
Having flown it both ways, I’d leave them off. They don’t do much to enhance the performance at all.
@@Thercgeek Thanks, I appreciate the advice!
What about the lights are they on all the time or do they have some sort of on and off switch
They are on all the time. You only see them in low light.
@@Thercgeek In your opinion wouldn’t you think that that would cause the battery to deplete a little bit faster because the lights are on or not so much. What are your thoughts
Technically yes, but the draw from the LEDs is so small, it doesn’t make a notable difference.
They are connected to the battery lead via a 2 pin jst connector in the battery compartment. You can disconnect that lead to turn them off of you like.
@@Amahoser Or put one of those switches in between, the ones you can switch on/off through a free channel on the receiver.
Much like restaurants now
You mean in relation to my dad joke in the outtakes? Makes sense, haha!
most guys interested in a stol plane want to see the stol characteristics they never show the stol abilities....
That’s fair. In all honesty though, I never really considered this as a STOL airplane personally. So o never really pushed it there. I did do that with the Draco though.
