been using some products from the Protea range been pleased so far they are a paint rather than a stain although I believe they do stains as well. Not cheap but seems good quality. The great thing is you can use it on concrete posts as well as fences

Decent job that. In terms of treatment of end grain for vissible wood i like to use barrettine premier wood preserver. This is a thin solvent based treatment and really soaks in whilst being economical. They do clear and tinted versions. This is as close as i can find to the sort of preserver used during the pressure treatment process.
Black jack bitumen as you used below ground is a good idea.
