I am Not a hip hop or rap fan at all, more into death metal and shit, but I’m SO glad I clicked on this video. For rap, they def aren’t too bad and I’m 100% into supporting small bands and singers so kudos to them! Also, I love how down to earth you are and how you explained the shot you were taking in the vlog, showed yourself shooting it, and then showed the final piece. PERFECT tutorial. Seriously man, I’m so thankful for this video and for you. I literally love this. I not only learned techniques but the actual terminology for everything and the types of footage, too. Thank you so so much.
Hey! Thanks so much for the comment! Couldn't appreciate your support more!! I have a bunch more of these coming soon! If you scroll through my channel videos, I actually shot another one of these thats very similar. Not a super polished behind the scenes.. Extremely raw, but this is what it's REALLY like while shooting something as freelance as this haha. Glad you enjoyed! Cheers!
I'll definitely check that out too! Its nice to see the real aspect of shooting so I know just what I'm getting myself into! Thanks so much and I really look forward to any more tutorials you make!

this is actually really helpful! I got a few questions: - So I bought a Canon T5i with really no intention to try and shoot music videos, but now I'm interested and to trying to get around to completing an actual project, currently I have my kit lens and 50mm prime. I have no stabilizer yet and am kind of on a tight budget, but I think I could get my hands on one in the near future. Are there any stabilizers I should avoid? - and on that, the T5i's auto-focus when it comes to video just kinda sucks lol, I can't trust it like a GH4 to be consistent nor fast, so if I were to put it on some sort of stabilizer how could I keep manually focusing it-- say if my subject is moving back and forth? or should I just direct really specific shots to make up for that? - last thing, so in the videos it'll cut from one part of the song to another shot with him lip syncing another line with a shot like maybe at the end of the day. how do you go about deciding where which clip would go to a certain part of the song? if that makes sense thanks
Andrew Nguyen hey bro! alright; 1) honestly man if you're on a tight budget, start out with a glide cam. A gimbal I would recommend the ronin M by dji. it's around 1000 usd where a very good glide can is around 400 usd.. big price gap. I know of some huge music video producers that shoot off of a glide cam and rather use that than a gimbal. try th cheaper option first! it's not what equipment you have, it's how you use it. Just because you have a gimbal, doesn't mean you know how to make proper movements with it. 2) the metabones speedbooster doesn't give the fastest auto focus either I've found. I'm always in manual focus. therefore if I want a shot that keeps everything j focus while moving in and out, I'll zoom all the way out, and focus my subject from maybe 8-15 feet away and then start moving in and out with an aperture of 5 and shutter speed of 125 ish with an ND filter just in case. my subject will stay in focus but so will everything around it therefore you have no blurred effect. some of the shots where I was moving and fully zoomed in, it looked like I was going in and out but in reality I was making semi circles around the artist and keeping the exact same distance away from him the entire time 3) it depends on how you direct and edit the video man! I generally like to toss things in some sort of sequence order as you could tell the area where we poured the drink out I only used for the first 1/3 of the song and then the rest was in the alley more near the end. If it's a trappy quick edit vibe you can get away with jumping around everywhere but sometimes it looks and feels better if you put stuff in order. I guess you just gotta feel it out.. that's where your creative side will really shine! hope this helps and good luck!!🙏🙏
this questions and answer is amazing i literally am in the same position t5i came monday but ive been doing graphics since high school im only 20. but thanks fore the awesome questions and good luck
RoyalZProduction Thanks so much for this, yeah I'm currently 16 in hs and it sounds realistic but kinda feels far-fetched to get something worth more than my camera haha. but I'm sure I can figure it out eventually, maybe do some handheld stuff and just work with that, recording my friends and stuff
This video has helped me a lot in shooting my music videos so salute for that bro! I wanna get better at colour correction and grading my videos to make them look cinematic. Can you make a vid on colour grading?
Thanks for the comment! I Have tons in the work for the channel! Definitely keep those post notifications on! I have so many super informative hands on videos coming very soon. Appreciate you!
thank God for sending guys like you to earth...am watching from Dubai....u are a great guy...keeping helping the youth...n keep teaching....God bless u bro
Hey bro, Love your work. Really appreciate the commentary and how you brought us into your mindset when shooting. Quick question, how do you keep the artist in focus while panning and moving front to back? Appreciate it in advance!
this is actually lit! you should make a video on how you edit the video and match up the audio with it! i really wanna start doing videos like this and ive been looking for raw bts for such a long time and you brought it to the table!!!
damn bruh I'm at the stage I'm a car show, street/grudge racing videographer. i get more requests to do music video. I think I'm try it on a new channel. I got over 19,000 sub with the Racing crowd time to take a stab at it.
jaybo107 do it up mang. I still shoot automotive.. I'll never stop that as I said in the video. it's just cold as a mawfk here in Canada haha.. I have some cool car stuffs planned this year pretty soon though. Def get into freelance videos man. so much fun to shoot and edit
Donny Bizness I'll shoot at around f/5.0 125 with a ND filter and just keep my eye on the lcd screen like a hawk. if I'm full zoomed out, my subjects stay in focus. fully zoomed in, I always pre focus my subject and keep my eye on the screen to keep an equal distance away. I may look like I'm moving around a lot, that's because the subject in the video is also moving a lot. it takes a while to get used to but the more you shoot, the easier keeping everytbing in focus is!

hey man imtalented rapper ive been rapping im working on my album i record music by myself in adobe audition if we can meet i would like you to shoot videos for me we can be partners

Hey, I actually recently started my Channel and I vlog about my college life, however, one of the guys on my floor was talking about how he wanted to make music videos. I wanted to look up some info for him and this video was absolutely perfect! Good job, and thanks for the help.I like how it gets straight to the point and is easy to understand. I listened and watched the full version and it was catchy. Keep up the work and keep doing what you're doing.
Quintin Cajuste so stoked the video helped you man! Thanks for the comment, totally made my day haha. If you have time and are interested, I made a video very similar to this! It's called 'how I shoot rap/hip hop videos 002'. Lots of more technical on-set questions answered in there!
Cool! I'll check it out, and could you do a video on making music vids with an iPhone??! I think that would be really awesome for people who may not have the money to start right away with cameras!
I zoomed the lens all the way out (18mm on my 18-35mm Sigma), set aperture to 5.0, shutter 125, focused around 15 feet away and it will stay in relatively good focus until you get VERY close to your subject but at that point people won't really pick that up as you jolt back on and in focus so quickly. Hope that helps!
Hey! I actually go over that In my upcoming Behind The Scenes music video I'm dropping soon. But to answer your question earlier, being zoomed out all the way will let you have a wider focus and its just easier to keep things in focus from a ways away or jolting in and out. When zoomed In all the way, you'll achieve a more cinematic shot as when you move side to side or in a semi circle with a steadycam around the subject, you'll notice your environment/background looks like it's moving very fast.. Sure this shot looks awesome and very cinema-like.. However.. This is when focus strongly comes Into play. For shots I'm zoomed In all the way, you must stay a strict distance from your subject and the only moves you can do are semi-circles or back and forth movements so you can keep the subject In focus. I hope this helps answer your question! A little difficult for me to type it out over text rather than explain to you In person. Great question though!
A friend just asked me to do their music video and I was nervous because it will be my first and I'm still shooting with a Nikon D3200, but I have a rig and stedi cam. This video made me more confident and I'm loving the technique.
TGIF Radio ya man! Just don't charge for it. I didn't charge for my first 3 music videos bro until I got used to shooting them and felt more confident. Awesome to hear that you picked up some knowledge!✌ good luck with your future productions bro
Happy Hippo630 great question! Watch this video I made of the same artist in this behind the scenes video. I Shot it all without a Gimbal. Literally my Panasonic Gh5 Sigma 18-35mm lens and a camera strap. Plus 1 Dracast LED label light ruclips.net/video/N1maqGbXxZs/видео.html
So super dope video...I hope I am not asking this question twice..but I am interested in what your process is when you edit..can you help me out... When you create a new sequence is your frame rate for the sequence 60fps? Then you bring your footage in and make it slow mo by going 50%...and if so what about footage that is not shot in 60fps but is a part of the project..how do you treat that?
Thanks for replying I learn a lot with your videos ... and so you shoot the full song every different setting? Like full song at the park and full song at the store then you edit it to one full song?
great tv for every spot we stop at and shoot at, I like to take 4 different shots. 1 up close, 1 without the gimbal, I'm and one far away or going in and out with the gimbal. I like to play the song entirely over from beginning to end each times. Depending on the spot I'll also grab B roll slow motion shots as well
I focus the subject at the halfway point of where I'm moving in and out. I then fully zoom my 18-35mm lens all the way out (18mm) and set aperture to f/5.0 and shutter to around 125. Everything stay relatively In focus
Anytime man! Thank you for the comment and support! I'll drop many more of these in the very near future. I'm focusing a lot of my side shooting now purely on music videos.
So why do you swap between Resolution and Frame rate for a clip that will be renderd in one Frame rate and resolution, why is that? and why is it not noticeable, and why does it work? its rlly hard for me to understand ;o
MZBIT videos I swap between resolution because the Panasonic gh4 cannot shoot 60 frames at 4k quality. therefore for my 60 frame shots (usually B-roll) I'll downgrade to 1080p in order to obtain the 60p frame rate so I can achieve slow motion. performance scenes and non slow.motion b roll, I will stay at 24 frames @ 4k. It's not super noticeable if you keep your focus sharp and most people watch the video at 1080p anyways. but even watching a video uploaded in 4k on RUclips in 1080p, that downscaling really does make for better video motion and Still noticeably better quality rather than uploading in straight 1080p. I hope this answers your questions.. a little tough to explain this one over text!🌊

1 Corinthians 13 (King James Version) 13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. PLEASE DO NOT FEAR, OR BE DISCOURAGED, no. do not take that vaccine

Thanks for the comment and support man! Honestly, means a lot!
Can you please tell me how yo get them on focus all time?

just started watching your vids man
They're really helpful and entertaining
I can tell your a humble dude Keep up the work!!!
Ayeee appreciate it fam! I love making these BTS vlogs! Thanks for checking out my content!
one thing baffles me.. when you are moving back and forth, how do you keep focus? great vid btw!
Donny Bizness and thank you for the support! I will have plenty more BTS music video videos coming out soon
thanks for the info, Bro! i'll keep that in mind!
also some dslr have autofocus..
What does the ND filter do?
This is so sweet!! Please do more of these!! Great work & Thank you! 👍🏼🔥
Devin Albert I have a new one coming very new with more tips and tricks!
It's so weird seeing the behind the scenes tbh, but cool.
Haha thanks fam
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing man!
saiiiiiii1 anytime! glad you enjoyed!
I’m really talented at editing but I have no one to shoot a video for, how do I find people
Make a Facebook status on your personal facebook asking if anyone locally knows amateur rap artists or music artists who want a free music video. Shoot your first few for free until you start feeling comfortable and confident enough to charge out for your time!
ima do that that sounds good :) , thanks for the tip man!!!
hey man imtalented rapper ive been rapping im working on my album i record music by myself in adobe audition if we can meet i would like you to shoot videos for me we can be partners
Where are you located? I make music
im located in San Antonio TX, if we cant meet to film in real life, just get someone to record your scenes and i will edit them, hmu on instagram: arturofiorentini
Which medabones speed booster do you use there are multiple ?
nice nice how much is the cost for shooting a music video
FlameBoy Music depends on the number of locations, how long we shoot for, what equipment I'm using
RoyalZProduction oh in brooklyn flatbush and i would like my music video just like this one.
Emailed me brotha, VisualsByRoyalZ@gmail.com
Yeah thats not a bad idea! Maybe later on bro, I'm waiting for the Iphone 8 to drop
You've got my attention!
MIN 16:12 is what i do. Just help others and it does make you feel better once the project is put together. Nice video keep up the work!
Cesar Garcia exactly! the payout for shooting for smaller artists who REALLY appreciate your time is seriously priceless
how was your lens focused while you was going in and out
I zoomed the lens all the way out (18mm on my 18-35mm Sigma), set aperture to 5.0, shutter 125, focused around 15 feet away and it will stay in relatively good focus until you get VERY close to your subject but at that point people won't really pick that up as you jolt back on and in focus so quickly.
Check out dope music videos shot by the Canon T7i on my page
A friend just asked me to do their music video and I was nervous because it will be my first and I'm still shooting with a Nikon D3200, but I have a rig and stedi cam. This video made me more confident and I'm loving the technique.
TGIF Radio ya man! Just don't charge for it. I didn't charge for my first 3 music videos bro until I got used to shooting them and felt more confident. Awesome to hear that you picked up some knowledge!✌ good luck with your future productions bro
Thanks for the knowledge !
Will filming without a gimble look bad no matter what, or is a video with all raw footage okay cuz I don’t have a gimble
Happy Hippo630 great question! Watch this video I made of the same artist in this behind the scenes video. I Shot it all without a Gimbal. Literally my Panasonic Gh5 Sigma 18-35mm lens and a camera strap. Plus 1 Dracast LED label light
ruclips.net/video/N1maqGbXxZs/видео.html
RoyalZProduction that helped a lot and was really good! Do you have any other advice for when shooting a music video, especially at night?
Try your absolute best to light It up. If you can't try your best to find a location that has lights around the environment!
Do you record each clip by one by one ?
Yup. I have the artist sing the song entirely (performance scene) and then edit accordingly
Depending on the spot I'll also grab B roll slow motion shots as well
RoyalZProduction thank you alot
RoyalZProduction what is gimbal??
Bro you’re awesome & I appreciate like truly appreciate your existence & your videos you have inspire me into a whole different level thank you.
how do u get your shots to stay in focus while moving in and out
I focus the subject at the halfway point of where I'm moving in and out. I then fully zoom my 18-35mm lens all the way out (18mm) and set aperture to f/5.0 and shutter to around 125. Everything stay relatively In focus
RoyalZProduction what if your shooting at night? Can you drop the f stop?
bro really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, you can tell you are very humble and talented I hope the best for you.
RoyalZProduction Ahh now i get it. Got the same problem cause i got the GH4 too 😂😅
Haha Its all good.. I'm picking up a GH5 super quick here. Super excited!
This was super helpful! That shoot looks like it was a lot of fun. I love how you're able to get some really awesome shots with minimal setup
Glad it helped! I wanna post a lot more of these In the future!!

1 Corinthians 13 (King James Version)
13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
I watched all 3 and you should keep doing these man. They're hella dope. Much love from the Bay Area
