As a Chinese, I can answer your question just from the standpoint of the Chinese. The reason why China and Japan can't get along harmoniously is because of historical reasons. Japan has invaded China and caused very, very many Chinese deaths, just like the Nazi massacre of Jews in World War II. So many Chinese people will have hatred, but this is the hatred between the government, and there may not be much hatred among the ordinary people. Between China and South Korea, I think there is not only between the government, but also between the people. Especially in recent years, I can feel the rising hostility between Chinese and South Korean netizens, especially in cultural competition.

Japan is not dumb, they want to be rich for their own benefit. During their height in the 70s they wanted to copy the US model of economic sphere of influence by keeping higher end service positions in Japan and outsource manual work to surrounding places like China. And for various other reasons China and Japan relations were normalized around that time as well. In fact China's relations with the west was fairly good since the "big bad" at the time was the USSR. I'm half chinese, working in IT field. Worked with both chinese and japanese, the differences aren't much. The chinese they more like family type, sure they're loud but when comes to food, they always sharing. Japanese side they're polite and take pride on what're they're doing/job, they more to peace and quite rather than talking or laughing out loud. When comes to food, they do share like chinese. That 1 common, is they both don't like other people to waste food, chinese will scold you(Like my parent did), japanese will give you that death stare while telling you to finish all the foods.

So this guy thinks Japanese girls look like they live in a "cartoon" and that it would be OK having 3 of them as "wives"? Funny up to a point, but also a reminder that objectifying other people and lacking self-awareness rarely leads to good ideas.

To be fair and it is disgusting, this is pretty much what the entire world thinks of Japan "I must get a Japanese wife! So polite and nice!", I find the sentiment to be quite repulsive
On the other hand manyy Japanese people use this to leverage some sort of advantage and so furthering the sentiment, find the thousands of videos on youtube "what Japanese girls think of dating [target audience] " and just read the comments

Japanese are polite, good manner, soft-spoken, never make a fuss about things etc. I think everybody in the world knows that. If Japanese stuff are mentioned in China, it’s always associated with positive impression. ( excluding the war in history of course) . But Koreans? Not really. Unless you are into K-pop or Korean idols those sort of things. Chinese think Japanese stuff are top-notch, but Korean stuff are just so-so. If Chinese look up to the Japanese because the Japanese deserve those respect. But for Koreans we don’t think too highly of them even though they really gain some popularity among the world nowadays because of k-pop etc.
