    As an ordinary Chinese, as long as it does not affect my life, most people can accept it, at least on the surface, they will not make any discriminatory behavior. But once this kind of thing happens to the family, the elders are generally quite repulsive, especially will not accept same-sex marriage.

      on the other hand, it is very bad to talk about any community without its participation. Imagine Americans discussing racism where all the discussants are perfectly blond-haired, blue-eyed Anglo-Saxons. That would be weird. Likewise, LGBTQ people - regardless of whether you like them or don't like them, accept them or not, are part of every society, they should be visible, especially in matters that directly concern them.

      @@moonieek ok, I understand your point of view. Most of the people in this interview are LGBTQ or supportive, and I agree with you that this is a biased cross-section of the community. The problem is that street interviews are generally biased, they are not statistical research where you set the research conditions, sample size, etc. . You could probably even consider it an attempt at whitewashing, even if someone from the community was used to do it. However, I wouldn't go that far and I don't think that's the point. Many people believe any sexuality that differs from heterosexual "norms" is considered the result of trauma or confusion as a child. Though I (a female) experienced SA when I was around 6, it was not the result of me being bisexual. When I was in preschool (about 3 years old), the very first day of attending, we were assigned seats and I was placed next to a girl the same age as me with bright green eyes and freckles. I was ABSOLUTELY infatuated with her (yes, it was a crush). We didn't even communicate because we were so young. I'm pretty sure we never even talked once, we'd just look at each other and smile and that was literally it, but my heart would pound and I wanted to show her "affection" that I literally had no clue was even about. I didn't know what gay or straight was, I just knew I liked her more than I liked anyone else, even more than those who actually talked to me or were really nice to me. You could try to say it was "innocent admiration", but I know what that would have felt like, so no it was not. Fastforward 21 years, I'm with a beautiful Texan woman who loves me unconditionally and I love her the same. I never changed, I was never influenced, nor was my ultimate decision to marry a woman the result of trauma. I was actually BORN this way.

It is possible that gender noncomforming people are more likely to be chosen as interviewees) I don't think any of the other cities in China have the similar level of inclusiveness as Shanghai owing to the fact that Shanghai is the center of multiculturalism and globalization due to historical reasons. All other cities have conditions that is MUCH WORSER for queers, including Beijing. I lived in a relatively inclusive city compared to other parts of the country and I still cannot believe that the video was a interview target at all citizens(most of the intervewees are queer and/or with a noncomforming dressing). Our country is working hard to erase us.
