Fixing the air-con SAAB 9-3 - pt 1 Disassembly

  • With the hot weather here I decided it was time to fix the car air con. So in this episode I set out to replace the condenser radiator - but I find other problems while I'm at it. Join me for a look at how I tackle this, with a few laughs along the way.
    Featured car SAAB 9-3. 2007 1.8i. I AM NOT A MECHANIC AND THIS IS NOT A HOW TO. This is just an account of how I went about this particular task.
    For your information...
    Battery cover - Large flat blade screwdriver
    Slam panel nuts - 10mm
    Small X member (to front assembly) T40 Torx / 10mm bolts
    Air con condenser connections:Top nut 14mm. Dryer + lower pipe13mm
    Air con condenser mountings Torx T25
    Fan assembly mountings Torx T25
    Radiator assembly bracket bolts 10mm
    Front valence assembly mounting nuts 8mm
    Replacement air con seals:
    GM 24436644 Sealing ring washer 8.1 x 16.0mm condenser bottom pipe
    GM 24436646 Sealing ring washer 11.2 x 19.1mm condenser top pipe
    GM 24436644 Sealing ring washer 8.1 x 16.0mm Dryer

    Good to see you, Johnny. Have no idea how to do anything like that. Good on you. You certainly need a/c in these hot temps. It's super hot here in Texas for the past month and foreseeable future. Stay hydrated, dear man. Leigh

      Hi Leigh. I guess you'd know all about hot over in Texas. We had a couple of really hot weeks here but of course it has all turned to rain and gloom now - typical British summer!

    Well done Johny! Doesn’t look that easy so you were brave to tackle it. It’s a classic car so it’s well worth keeping it in good order.

      Hi, thanks. Not so much brave as very hot! I'm really getting this car in order now but will probably upgrade to something else in due course.

      I think disassembly is the worst - once it's all apart, there really is only one way to go.
