  • Hi guys and welcome back to the channel..
In today’s video i will show how to test the cooling fans circuit in the saab 93.
Its a simple circuit, but can throw off many technicians.
The heart of the circuit is the fan control module, which receives two main grounds from the same grounding point, two powers from two different maxi fuses, and three control input grounded by ECM to determine which speed is commanded.
I don't wana give up more info, but feel free to ask me anything after watching both parts..
    Enjoy the video

Hi Flying Mechanic DIY, I still have to go back and like all your videos. They're fantastic! The way you video the repairs is absolutely super, easily understandable and the tips about safety or any other aspects are superb. Thank you. Wonderful advice for SAAB 93 buyers or owners doing their own repairs. You make it possible to take on major or complicated repairs with a good plan, the necessry tools and, most importantly, the right process and safety tips. Excellent! Keep making videos. Your videos will become classics very soon and SAAB owners will discover them! God bless!

I post this comment and plea for insight/advice in Part 2 video as well. Great Video, the visual procedure in conjunction w/the verbal instructions/explanations and notes are excellent. My vehicle is a 2008 SAAB 9-3 2.0T (B207 engine; Convertible). Engine and Transmission run smooth, has 202K miles. A/C issue: I turn engine on with A/C set to Full Blast (Driver & Passenger) w/cabin Circ. on, cold air begins to blow, but after 15 seconds coldness gradually declines to warm. I repeat and notice that Compressor Clutch initially engages/rotates then stops after 15 seconds. I checked A/C Compressor Relay and respective circuit slots, and all good with power. Hooked refrigerant gauge (only) to high press. line and needle went into the RED Zone (beyond the Green/Full psi zone), so had a mechanic fully evacuate High and Low Press. lines and refill-balance. No change in Red Zone reading and Compressor Clutch stop. Had A/C Diagnostic done, ...possible Cooling Fan Relay Box/Module at fault, so replaced w/new, w/no change in result. Eventually located a Certified SAAB Mechanic (many, many years), he stated that car had many P-Codes, and that my newly installed Cooling Fan Relay needed to be programmed/married to ECM/ECU (T8 Module/ Trionic Unit), would take an hour or so. "OK"...2 hours later he called and said "Bad News" ...SAAB is DEAD.... ECM Died...car will not start. Me: WHAAAAT ??!!?? So, Mr. Flying Mechanic DIY, can you please give me some insight as to how this can happen? How does an ECM "die" while programming marrying to another part ?!? I'm thinking he accidentally short circuited the ECM, but then How do I know. He wants to charge me 200USD for handing back a DEAD car that was dropped off as a perfectly smooth running.

great vid, yeah i found out one of my fans didnt work somewhere are around 300k miles. high speed fan failed, the reason I knew is because, it will cause it will not allow the A/C to turn on without it. So I replaced the fan assembly-used, that fixed it thankfully. I figured they had 100 million rotations by now lol. good vid for TS. Thanks.

Hi, The Flying MechanicDIY. Great videos. I followed your video and I found out on my harness I don't have power on the pin 3 as you have when you connect the lamp. Do you know what caused that since you worked so extensively on this car? My Cooling fan starts to spin for a min. and then quit. I have P0695 code when I run the tach 2 . Please let me know if you don't mind. Thank you.

Check the fuses for the fans , there are two, im sure one is burned which usually means one of the fans are shorted , that u can test easily by power the fans individually, if one is shorted replace it first , after that u can test again cause there is a good chance a faulty fan can destroy the fan relay module and the fuse

Thanks for this video. My 04 9-3 is having this issue now (A/C won't work). Highest cooling fan speeds seem not to work. All fuses have been checked, relays, fan controller, all of that (on my shop's Tech 2). No shorts we can find in the wires. At this point, the only thing that hasn't been changed tested (even tried another ECM!) is the MCC panel and the fans themselves, so we are getting some fans in.

Great video but I am stuck without your software to operate the fans at the different speeds. My issue is fans do not run when a/c is switched on and the compressor is not “locking” on 07 saab93 tid. I have proved the compressor by shorting the relay and also checked both fans operate at max speed. Also substituted fan control unit with another but cannot guarantee that it is good. A/c was gased a few months ago so assume still ok. Any help you can offer would be very welcome

If not then fix the outside temp sensor, and if it is normal them A/C is low on gas

I have an 06 that both fans stopped working completely, i cant afford this snazzy computer, but i started the car and kept an eye on the fans until it was almost up to normal operating temperature and they just never came on. Is it still possibly the fan relay? Could it have just completely stopped working all at once?

The fans might not run even the gauge showing normal temp, start the Air condition and see if the fans run at all after few minutes

There is no low speed or high speed separate fuse, there are two fuses that supply power to the fan module, each supply a fan separately

    Greetings from Greece.
I know that this is an old video but I will give it a shot since I ' ve come to a dead end.
So after a visit to the local repair shop my Vectra C (GTS 1,9 cdti, year 2004) has been diagnosed with the P1481 fault code (Cooling fan control module).
They have tried everything that I've read here (fuses, loose connectors/cables etc) but no luck.
I have already replaced once the Cooling fan control module (Part Number 1379131) with a used one but after 8-9 months it is broken again.
I am trying to find a new one to buy but it's not possible since Valeo stopped manufacturing this part.
As far as I know the 1.9 diesel engine (Z19DTH - year 2004) is also used in the Group FIAT vehicles (FIAT, Lancia, Alfa Romeo) and in SAAB as well.
Does anyone know the part number of this part in SAAB or Group FIAT ?
