    Mate i just want to say thankyou so much for this vid,we were plagued with this starting problem on our family owen'd saab 95' it was slightly different with the fuse box under the dash instead off the bonnet or hood, in america i am in Scotland ,the principle was the excact same and i took a feed from the light switch instead off the battery and put a 15amp fuse in-between that mod for safety and the switch thro the silver dash just to the side off the esp button,i used a s/steel rally start/horn button not one a these cheep crap chinese buttons off Ebay and was only £10 or $20,well worth the cash,thanks again mate!

    Had this issue exactly. 2005 ARC 9-3, 180k miles roughly. Opened the key-module up and confirmed that one of the sliding contact-tips was worn down to the nub, it's metal finger was blued and heat-weakened resulting in poor contact and arcing caused by a large amount of metal powder grindings that had built up around that contact, shorting it across both contact pads on the circuit board it was near. The SID was popping up all kinds of warnings about TC, Steering lock etc.., and left me stranded til I jumped that relay but it ended up just needing the switch on the console replaced.
    30k miles later...no more issues.

    Thanks, Clay! This was an AWESOME idea! The winter deep freeze, as you know, has returned to the Great Lakes region and I failed to start/exercise the battery for three days. One wire from the starter relay (with the ignition turned on) and... Vroom! Thanks again! Oh, I'm gonna keep that wire in the trunk!

    Bloody subs I've got an arrow convertible and it doesn't matter what it is is a Saab it's going to stuff up mine says lock steering wheel and it won't start and I'm stuck so all I have to do now is just open the bonnet unhook the battery and connect immediately straight away and they will start every time I just leave the power terminal a little bit loose and every time I just go straight to the the bonnet I know the little bit of a pain especially if it's going to rain hahaha but it'll get me out of trouble for now this is a great video by the way I'm going to try that I was just getting bypassed by a Killswitch to shut everything down and turn it on so just like the battery disconnect and connect I assume the Killswitch can do that I used you only assume I haven't done it yet but I like this bypass you've done on this video that's great job thank you

    Just curious having watched this again. Are you saying non start can be caused by the steering angle sensor? I'm pretty certain that is not the case.
    And yeah the ignition switch module (ISM) is plug'n'play. They suffer from dirt ingress - sometimes you can rescue them by taking them apart and cleaning them up.

    • @sharpcarco

I also filled my coolant on a sunny day and may have dripped a little and it caused a no start. I would love some help and direction from a master Saab technician and GR resident. Thanks!

    My 5 speed 2004 saab 93 now has this no start. I replaced the starter relay, crankshaft position sensor, got both the battery and starter tested and they are good. The only way I get it to start is removing the neg batt cable put it back then after about 2-5mins of turning the key it starts. Next I plan on taking apart and cleaning or replacing the ignition switch.

    • @sharpcarco

      Well I was able to order mine from a local parts store and if I remember correctly it was only about $125 for the ignition switch the reason that they go bad is because pop gets spilled down inside them over the years and it makes a lot of sense that it’s very possible yours is bad as well luckily they’re not too pricey I’m sure you can get one off of the Internet

    My 2007 saab 9-3 2.8l ran great then ignition coil caught fire, extinguished it, replaced it and new connector, now it cranks but wont start. please help me. Do you think someone put something harmful in my gas?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  5 лет назад

      No but if you believe that someone possibly could have. You could remove the fuel line off of the fuel rail or you can open the Schrader valve for the fuel rail pressure release valve and positively charge the fuel pump relay and drain all the fuel out of the tank that way. It won’t hurt the pump to pump water if that’s what’s in there. Be careful feel is very flammable as we all know but I need to say it.
      More than likely an electrical connection got fried or something electrical went wrong to cause the fire. From the sounds to me you probably have a pretty serious electrical problem. I’m sorry I wish I had better news but you need to check for fuel compression and spark and then go from there.

    I think all u had to do is replace the ingnition wether it turns or not. Ignition failure is common due to its location debris and/or moisture can go down the key hole and fry it. My saab would let me turn the key all the way to start but wouldn’t start so I swapped out ignition and car started right up with key. I discovered the old ignition had soda spilled in it I guess from previous owner

    Thanks for the video Clay. How were you able to diagnose that the steering angle was the problem, and not something else? I think my car has the same problem, but want to rule out anything else. My car almost always starts, but sometimes I turn the key and nothing happens. I can turn it like 10 times in a row, and no ignition. Then I wait maybe 1-2 minutes and try again and it starts. I used to get the steering lock malfunction notification, but not recently.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  5 лет назад

      Because you get the steering lock malfunction indicator more than likely you have a steering lock malfunction but that’s not causing your current problem why sometimes you can’t start the vehicle more than likely that’s caused from where the key goes into the ignition. I would first recommend from the information that you’ve given me to change your ignition on your sob you do not have to have it reprogrammed it’s just basic plug-and-play I had the same problem on my wife’s car to try that out first it should be right around $100 for a brand new one but you can get one used from the junkyard hope that information is helpful good luck have a great day

      Clay Rogers Hi clay, I get some arcing and the car starts to turn over a bit but I can’t seem to get enough current to that tiny metal - I’ve tried a decent wire and tried using an actual small piece of metal - the car cranks a bit so suggests this is my issue.

      No sorry I did that years ago and the car is gone I wish I could be more help use your head I’m absolutely certain that you will find a place to run the wires from the inside of the car to the outside of the car look underneath the steering column and find a rubber plug Put a hole in it and push the wires through there I’m absolutely certain that you can do it just take a couple moments to take a look at what your working with

    I am getting a steering lock malfuntion when it put the key in the ignition and it will not turn at all and my steering wheel not even lock, I have replaced the ignition switch the battery and the key fob battery with no results. I also disconnected the fuse and reconnected it because i read that would reset it but again no results. What could it be?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  5 лет назад

      Well it’s more than likely your steering angle sensor and Lock have to be changed behind the steering wheel I could recommend just getting a whole steering column that would probably be the simplest way

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  7 лет назад

      Daniel Slaten you will find a ground in the center consul and run that to one side of the switch then the other wire from the switch will run all the way to the relay and yes the relay will be plugged in
      If you want to test it and make sure it is going to work turn your ignition switch on pull the starter relay run a wire from your positive side and touch it to the exposed post like I show in the video I describe two different post you have to make sure that you touch the one that is running with the length of the car sorry it's very difficult to explain that part in a text message but I think I did an OK job explaining that during the video just pay close attention to what I say I wish you luck please like my video and subscribe to my page if this is helpful have a great one good luck

The key is in the ignition ("On") and everything else seems to be working as normal. Hello
    My problem with saab 2.0T petrol is no start. Key turns in on position but no start.
    When i put key on ignition switch i do not hear anything from steering lock, and
    Steering lock stays unlocked even if i put out the key. The only code in CIM module and immobilizer is steering angle sensor. Can you give me an advise or direction what to do to start the car, i do not know what the problem will be...

    • @sharpcarco

      James may be rigght. I would try that first because it doesn’t cost anything but if that does not work replace the immobilizer that your key goes into .then I’m quite certain it will start. Brand new from the auto parts store it should be right around 100 to 150 maybe we’ll get a cheaper online . The problem the video is a problem with the steering angle sensor . It sounds as if your having a different problem because over the years coffee or soda have been dropped into your key switch and that’s generally why they fail of course I’m not there but I hope this information is helpful have a great afternoon and a great weekend

      Good afternoon Evan that is true if your fuel pump is bad it will knock the magnets that are on top of the compass of the electric motor together on the fuel pump and make it turn but that definitely means you need a new fuel pump if it works once you hit it with a hammer. It does not always work but 90% of the time it will these generally do not have bad fuel pumps
