    AC is one of those things you don’t really appreciate until you all the sudden don’t have it.
    Also the Diesel parking heater in my V50, I LOVE THAT THING, imagine it is cold an miserable it is somehow raining and snowing at the same time and you have worked a long day and you are walking through the wet snow, you are tired, cold and you feet are wet. You finally arrive at your car and you smell the wonderful burnt diesel smell and you open the door and step in to a sauna or 26 to 30*C heat.
    The engine is already warm and ready to go and suddenly the world isn’t as miserable because you can do skids on the way home.

    Helpful reminder to viewers: Also replace drier and expansion valve, and make sure you have a expansion valve KIT WITH BOLTS and not standalone valve only! The old valve's bottom bolt ALWAYS seizes up and has to be sawed off every time.
    Also: Saab A/C uses flat metallic o-rings, not the rubber rounded "Sonic the Hedgehog" style rings, if a parts store insists on selling you the Sonic o-rings, slap them hard.

      good advice, thanks

    • @snwdn
      @snwdn 2 года назад

      Can you suggest a good guide to replace the drier? I left my system open over night when I removed my evaporator and expansion valve (bottom bolt was seized like you said and I ended up cutting my evap core hoses to get it out) and realize I definitely need to do this, but I can't seem to find a good video or repair manual online. A new condensor might also be in order since mine looks about as bad as the one in this video, and it looks like the ones on Rock Auto do come with a new drier, but I am not sure how to install it.

    • @Whit_Siever
      @Whit_Siever 2 года назад +1

      @@snwdn my memory's vague but the 9-3 drier is pretty straight forward, it's mounted with T20 torx screws to the radiator you'll need to pull the front bumper and a few plastic splash guards hidden between bumper and FR tire to get direct access. Drier has an attached tube, may need to bend slightly to get into place. I think inlet and outlet pipes used 13mm? It's not *too* difficult.

    • @snwdn
      @snwdn 2 года назад

      @@Whit_Siever Thanks! I was able to replace my drier and it was pretty hard. The stud on the top was completely stuck in the hose mount bracket so I followed it up the line and removed the high side hose completely. Once the thing was out my friend helped me get it unstuck using a blow torch and melting some paraffin wax. Then he was able to get it off with pry bars while holding the drier in a vice. My new drier had a different shaped attached tube like you said, but rather than bending the tube I just attached the drier to the high pressure line and the radiator and left the two screws to the radiator out since it didn't line up. Seems like it won't move around much anyway.

    Had to make the very same replacement recently, also put some nice black alu mesh in the big gap in the lower bumper. With it being so open it's no wonder these things break so often.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 года назад

      wait, so you plugged a hole that's purposely there for ventilation and air flow? I'd be careful doing that, don't want the car to overheat..

    • @LordYllsacky
      @LordYllsacky 3 года назад +1

      @@AutoAutopsy No no, certainly didn't plug it. Just a typical "racing mesh". Plenty of airflow, just a slight protection against bigger rocks and so on.

    When getting it refilled with freon, make sure the shop adds additional oil to compensate for the oil lost due to the condensor replacement. Calculations are found in the WIS.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 года назад

      you sure? I don't believe that's necessary

    • @lennartvandermeulen1979
      @lennartvandermeulen1979 3 года назад +2

      Total system volume of oil is 120cc. According the WIS 30ml is lost due to the condensor replacement. If you also choose to replace the receiver (filter/dryer) that's another 30ml. I had a compressor failure a week after replacing the condensor and receiver. The shop didn't add the recommended quantity of oil, so the system was running with half of the oil. Wouldn't mind the compressor replacement video though :)! Keep up the good work.

    Once again....those rims....
    I WILL find a set eventually. XD
    Bet having AC out there will be really nice.
    After looking at that beat up condenser, it is obvious that that climate leads to a lot of loose debris on the roads.
    Maybe install a plastic airflow fence in there to stop anything above a few mm's diameter from getting in there? I always cringe when I see some dude around here with the whole area cutout and a nice expensive intercooler sitting there unprotected for all the road debris to clobber. Looks cool til it's peppered with a million pebbles.
    Your channel just keeps getting more interesting the deeper these cars get dug into.
