Incredible power and shot-making. I remember watching this live and was in awe each and every point. I still get this way watching the highlights over and over. Awesome @ Stan the man.
On clay Djokovic cant really attack stan when stan doesnt let novak take control of the rallies, it's really a combination of matchup, surface, and sheer stan the man bashing
Steve Michael love watching highlights, great way to learn certain shots and tactics although it might give the wrong impression the game is flawless while in reality with all those unforcedd errors and double faults it doesn’t necessarilly seem that dynamic, something even recreational players are pretty much aware of, great job, Stan, always love watching one-handers, playing it myself
Djokovic was in the middle of one of the greatest seasons ever produced by a player and his aura on court was immense. Brilliance was needed to beat him at that time and that is exactly what Stan brought to the court that day, perhaps the best display of ball striking ever! The number of outrageous winners was staggering, his highlight reel for this match is better than most players would get in their whole career.
watch start of the match between rafa and waw rs final 2017, wawrinka also started like this match but rafa was to agressive and his forhands didnt let stan get even close to him
Lol no way. Stan was not even close to this level in that match. In fact, that semi vs Murray took everything out of him (and Andy) and he was a shell of himself in the final. It was obviously partly due to the fact that it was Rafa and Stan doesn't have the same confidence against him as he does against most other players and knew that if he couldn't produce FO final 2015 level of tennis he wouldn't win, and he knew that he couldn't produce that level on that day
The way to beat Stan is disrupt his baseline play. With the combo of power/speed/spin from his groundstrokes not to mention his down the line killers from both sides including his backhand, there is simply no way to out-hit him-not this version. Peak Stan is a bad match up for Nole because Nole disrupts his opponents w his impregnable defensive wall while he picks at his opponents weaknesses. The worst match up for Stan is Federer and then Nadal. Neither of those approach a peak Stan in that way.
@@DrFearfall either way rafa on clay is a terrible matchup for him. Rafas high spin and kick would rarely get into wawrinka strikezone so no version of wawrinka would beat peak rafa at rg.
in fact, if Djoker was just a bit better attacker, he would make it much more difficult for Stan, even in god mode. Stan is my #1 favourite player, of course, but re-watch these highlights and see how many shots could Djoker place closer to lines, he placed so many in the middle - but maybe he wasn't ok mentally which one must accept when facing such a class from Stan
@@fortunasp5391 he played great the whole tournament, but the semi with Murray took all his energy. way too many errors in the final, easy match for Nadal.

the level of tennis in this match was insane. Djokovic was a beast at that time, chasing his first title in Roland Garros, but Wawrinka was indeed in "god mode". It would take time to find games with such a high level.
Indeed, I remember the match in the australian open, stan winning 9-7 in the 5th... but this match in Roland garros is beyond in my opinion. However Djokovic was mentaly and physically exhausted after his match against Murray in the semis (match that was played both on Friday and saturday). Otherwise i think he would have won this final.
I agree with both of you, but... AO 2013 vs Djoko was probably even better despite Stan somehow losing it, the same with 2013 USO, again, Stan much better still lost it. 2014 onwards Stan, for me, looked like he is thinking more and being a bit less aggressive, which delivered results. Although, I like 2013 Stan the most. I would love to watch him playing on 2013 level and winning.
I'm definitely a Fed Head but my god, it was like overnight with Stan. Went to bed one day with a shit forehand, woke up the next day with a Del Po style bludgeoning hammer of a forehand. IMO his game was 20% forehand, 80% backhand but it's no surprise that since his game has become more balanced, he's been winning GSs. Wonderful to watch, made even better by the fact he has a face that reminds me of a little chubby teddy bear.
totally. i love fed, love stan too, but i really really do think, please correct me if i am wrong, i still believe fed has the best backhand in the business. one of the commentators said that stans is the best. fed easily had the best before stan arrived, and since stans arrival, i actually very closely watched both their backhands...if stans IS indeed better, federers is definitely the more elegant one, but i still think feds is better. does someone agree with this? it is indeed somewhat close tho.
@@sonquatsch8585 it's not like Fed would miss a lot. He makes few mistakes at all. But his backhand is weak, not really attacking side, that means returning weaker ball, shorter ball, a possibility and a lot of time to prepare a deadly shot for opponent. When you get bludgeoned by Wawrinka's backhand, you barely make it to play the ball, when Feds hit weaker ball with his backhand, you have plenty of time to decide for playing hard forehand instead of whatever puts the ball on the other side of the court.
Stan was hitting like an animal.. Not sure who could've beat him on this day. Awesome win for him. That image of him pointing at his head is etched in my mind.

People say that the opponent is in trouble if stan's backhand is firing but i would disagree with that. The opponent is in trouble when stan's forehand is firing well because his overall game depends on how his forehand wing is operating. If his forehand is working well it automatically raises his confidence and the whole body language changes. His backhand is his stronger side no doubt and possibly the strongest single handed backhand in the world but his level tends to drop if he is making errors on the forehand side. I have seen all his big matches against novak since 2013 and you can easily find that he was firing rockets on the forehand side. It doesn't get enough credit because of the fact he has the best backhand in the world.
This is the best performance in a grand slam final in terms of pure ball striking. I was in awe of what i saw that day, it was absolute madness.
This was one of the greatest performances ever in a French open final. Nadal 2017 was the best though. Djokovic couldn’t get the ball high or wide enough to trouble Stan. Nadal does both and that’s why no one can live with him.

I think it was Jean-Paul Loth, one of the most famous french coaches and Roland Garros commentators that said that Federer most definitely is the best player of all time, but no one, absolutely no one can beat Wawrinka at his best. When Wawrinka starts hitting those insane backhands and forehands with confidence, the other has already lost. It's truly impressive to see him play as he often does against the very best. Hope his comeback will be just as impressive!
Here a huge prob with Nole was after he won the 1st set, he became more defensive and was starting to induce more depth in his groundstrokes. But ultimately, it backfired him. The more time u give Stan, the more dangerous he is, especially from the baseline. This tactic definitely works against Rafa and Roger but not with Stan. The 1 tactic nole could have employed is by playing attacking tennis. Mixing up his groundstrokes by coming to the net. Although he's not a great player at d net, he could have gave it a shot. That's why Roger has so much success against Stan. Stan could beat Roger only on Clay. But I did not think in a million years that Stan was capable of playing this type of match. Even today, this is the one of the most scariest version of tennis I ever saw after Roger (2003-2007) and Nole (2011 to 2016 Aussie open).
Best player to watch when playing well, as in the 2015 French Open. Very appropriate that the last shot of that match was one of those brilliant backhand winners.
איתי אברהם not to deny Rafa's great form at the FO but Wawrinka played a gruelling 5 setter against Murray in the semis. Could have been more competitive. y
Stan at his peak is the best tennis player ever. I don’t think any tennis player would’ve been able to beat him here no matter how well they played. Djokovic admitted this was the best he could’ve played too.

Stan played great but this is also one of these matches where Djokovic plays so innocuous that you have to wonder if he isn't possessed by Brat Gilbert at times.
If he beats federer in the quarters i hope he goes on to break Nadal and Djokovic and win again. That would be a hell of a statement to beat all three top players back to back to back and get a third title here.
When Stan plays like that it demoralised his opponent, Rafa was on course to pass federer when AO happened against Stan, he lost the mental edge. USO against dojoko who was becoming invincible and he was never the same after.
Lol nadal messed up his back in warm up.you idiots really have 0 knowledge of the history of rhe sport.next time actually watch matches instead of watching highlights
Novok lost many times even nadal and federer are still humans, tennis matches are like butterfly effect you have to be very strategic and conservative throughout the match
Djokovic played his worst match of the tournament in the final, he was unable to attack for the most part of the match. Stan was insane, cant deny that.
I keep wondering why Novak didn't approach the net after such amazing strokes down the line? Wawrinka did. It was the biggest difference in this match.
I think that black image and Windows sound is not really needed. It is a bit controversial I think. it is true that Djokovic seems to be outplayed here but a little bit desrectful still.
You got to feel for Djokovic in some way. Stan didn't just beat him. He completely demoralised Djokovic in this match. As the match went on it looked like Djokovic had no answer for Stan's power and shot making.
Rafael Nadal on clay in 2017 was almost unbeatable except for the blip in Rome against Thiem. Rafa hardly lost a few games at the French Open opposed to sets. If you compare with Novak of 15, he played a 5 setter with Murray in the semis also. Nadal would just finish Wawrinka by moving him around, making him to hit from very deep and play shots at very difficult angles. Stans no match, sorry.
@ Hari Govind Nah, I don't think so, dude. Remember that in 2017, Stanimal played Dolgopolov, Fognini, Monfils, Cilic and a gruelling 5 setter vs Andy, the No1 in the world back then. Rafa played literally nobodies until the final vs. an exhausted Stan. So yes, match, if you ask me. Trouble is, when Rafa meets his match (2014 AO, 2018 AO), you know what he does... Or worse, like in the 2011 RG final, when he shamelessly took a 9 minutes tactical MTO for a knee injury at down 5-2 and Fed serving for the first set, and when he returned, he ran like a rabbit with his injured knee and took the set. Everybody could see Rafa did not lose any speed, au contraire, he gained speed after the "injury". The Britsh commenters said on air that they "would love to have Rafa's doctors". Shameful gamesmanship from an overrated cheater... I think his grunting, ass-picking and time violation are also tactical. He would do anything just to win by any means. And when he loses to anybody except Nole ? He gives due credit, naturally. "I was injured, the weather was too hot, the surface was too fast", etc. Yeah, great player, great sportsmanship. Voted by his fellow players for how many Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Awards ? Oh yeah. 1. It's 1 too many in my opinion, I don't know what happened in that year.
Did you all see Djokovic's shots lacked a pop, a punch...it has happened before sometimes. Djokovic never has any weakness. He plays the complete tennis but I have seen him not with much power when it is too hot and sunny...like too blistering conditions. He is my favorite sportsperson and his approach now is different. He appears more calm and composed nowadays. I want him to win but yes, but Stan or Fed or Nadal is waiting or the next gen can't be ruled out.
CaLMCee Calm down. It is more to performance of his opponent in particular gsme. Djokovic was under the pressure in that final and didnt manage to deal with his emotions in RG final. Thats why he didnt play on his best. Djokovic Wawrinka overall score is I think 22:5 so its obvious it has nothing with Wawrinka Gods mode. You cant expect from Novak Federer and Nadal to olay at their best 365 days per year. Ofc fantastic players such is Wawrinka Murray will take their chances whenever they can.
CaLMCee Yup because you are talking inaccurate things like majority here. Wawrinka actually manage few times in his career to win against big three but his overall H2H against Federer Djokovic and Nadal is simply ridicilous. Therefore there isn Wawrinka Gods mode only bad days of big three despite the fact I really but really love Wawrinka to watch.
Stan was in awesome shape, no doubt. But you can't feed any top 10 player short balls all day and expect them not to punish you. I'm sure Nole had his reasons, but I know that even at my amateur-ass level, I've lost when up 5-2 (serving for the match) when I stopped taking chances and relied on my opponent to make mistakes. I've learned that even when they're down, experienced players smell blood from a mile a way and start playing with confidence if I let up. When they're up and hot, hang on for the ride and hope they come down soon lol.
Stan on great day is like Federer but with significantly more power. He blew Djokovich off the court when he plays his best. I think Stans best is better than anyone elses best....by a pretty big margin too
It’s so incredible to see how tennis players bring out Different skills from each other, depending on Whats at stake ? Watching Stan play like this , you wonder who could beat that level of play?
Stan is the Djokovic killer. He can run Djokovic so wide to his backhand that Novak is constantly doing the splits. The way to beat two-handers and tall players is to stretch them out wide and low. All two handers should have a reliable one handed defensive slice for when they are driven wide.
Stan is one of the most underachieving tennis player in history. Andy Murray comes to mind too. Anyway, when Stanimal was "on" (didn't appended often), there was very little the opponent could do.
Always love to watch Stanmina play. My favorite player. So entertaining to watch. He is not playing not to loose. He plays to kill...Lol. If he is slightly more consistence with less unforced errors, slightly better movement and slightly more competitive, he will be unbeatable, just like in his three Grand Slams. He needs to keep those form up.
Djoker fan: ok we're getting our ass kicked out there, new tactic let's try to go toe to toe with stanimals ground strokes Me:(laughs uncontrollably in Samuel l. Jackson's voice)
Nole looked really tired here, as he probably was. So many of his shots were shallow, lacked pace and spin, a few looked almost amateur. And of course, Stan was at the top of his game, hitting with incredible precision and power. I am not a Djoker fan, but I sort of did want him to grab his first RG title. But there was no way anyone was beating Stan that day. Aggressive, tactically brilliant tennis.
1st set won by Djokovic 2nd set, he had break points, was up 30-0 on serve and lost the game to give Wawrinka the second 3rd set, he had break points 4th set, up a break, had 3 break points, and lost a tight game at 4-4 and 4-5 to lose RG.

"If it's not Roger, it's Stan..."
Got to feel for Djoker after beating Nadal and Murray, another Swiss snatches victory from him.
@Zavonna Partiamo Novaxx DjoCovid is the line persons bitch.
What a looser!
🤭🤣🤣🤣
Really have to appreciate how Novak just takes the call @ 13:03 without any complaints. He was up 0-40 on stan's serve and lost it in the end.
Best player to watch when playing well, as in the 2015 French Open. Very appropriate that the last shot of that match was one of those brilliant backhand winners.
Fully agree. Same goes for Stich when he was "on" in the 90s.
Loved the intro man !
He was in god mode at the FO 2017 throughout the whole tournament and we all saw what HAPPENS when you PLAY against the BEST RAFA NADAL!!
איתי אברהם not to deny Rafa's great form at the FO but Wawrinka played a gruelling 5 setter against Murray in the semis. Could have been more competitive. y
@@SHVideografie Nope he was never beating Nadal, Nadal can neutralise these shotmakers at French. Did it to Thiem and Stan.
Stan was a little bit less impressive in fo 2017
@@SHVideografie So did novak vs murray...and it was over 2 days plus he was WAY more competitve than stan was.
My favorite player. If he plays like this ever he will be better than Federer. Hope to see him back with this level soon.
Juan Martín Irigaray jajajajajjajajaja 20-3
Stan at his peak is the best tennis player ever. I don’t think any tennis player would’ve been able to beat him here no matter how well they played. Djokovic admitted this was the best he could’ve played too.
On a clay court maybe. Never on a grass or hard court. Roger would never give Stan the rhythm Novak does.
@@jimnosnow4484 prime rafa on clay will beat him
Antonio Vasilev, Possibly. But he comes closest.
I watched this live and couldn't believe the kind of shots coming from Stan. The depth, power and precision he displayed this match was outstanding. NO ONE could've beaten Stan this day. He was meant to win this French Open Championship this year and he did it in style. Fantastic!
Nadal would've destroyed him
@@Fraudkovic We will NEVER know that. It's all in the history books.
@@KnowTrentTimoy nah we will know. We already know. Rg 2017 nadal beat him like a dog
@@Fraudkovic Well, Nadal DIDN'T beat Stan in the 2015 finals because he wasn't in the finals that year! Are you ok or just stupid on purpose???
@@Fraudkovicfor me, the very definition of looser when someone Need to Say that a +20 Grand Slam winner would hace destroyed a player that hit his peak, against a Monster and with stellar winner strikes number. What the Need to do this? What Is added usefully by saying that? Friend of mine said me that the demonstration of this is the french Open final 2017. Unbelievable blindness. Some players, some given day, are unplayable
The thing is... You can not win every single game... But you will win more if you lose sometimes because it makes you better if you really want
best performance ever in tennis history by Stan Man Wawrinka!
Stan played great but this is also one of these matches where Djokovic plays so innocuous that you have to wonder if he isn't possessed by Brat Gilbert at times.
Djkoko congratulating Wawrinka, what sportsmanship! He is admirable!
If he beats federer in the quarters i hope he goes on to break Nadal and Djokovic and win again. That would be a hell of a statement to beat all three top players back to back to back and get a third title here.
Second title here. He's only won RG once.
He lost to Federer!
When Stan plays like that it demoralised his opponent, Rafa was on course to pass federer when AO happened against Stan, he lost the mental edge. USO against dojoko who was becoming invincible and he was never the same after.
Salman Bakhtiyar nadal took a bloody set off stan barely able to stand he was so injured. Stan was lucky the stars aligned.
Lol nadal messed up his back in warm up.you idiots really have 0 knowledge of the history of rhe sport.next time actually watch matches instead of watching highlights
wow, that was the most incredible performance in a gs final Ive ever seen!
The Djokovic/Wawrinka match -ups are some of my absolute favorites. And Djoker was always a good sport, win or lose.
on his best day stan is one of the best ball strikers in history. he just doesn't have enough of those best days.
Anyone who beats Nadal at Roland Garos will lose against a Swiss in final.
Djokovic played a marathon match against Murray wich took 2 days. He was obviously tired.
Novok lost many times even nadal and federer are still humans, tennis matches are like butterfly effect you have to be very strategic and conservative throughout the match
B*tch is that really your excuse? Stan also beat Novak in the US FINAL with literally two w/o.
@@emmanuel4549 USO is a bad example.Novak had injured wrist.AO 2014 is better, stan won fair and square.
@@aleksamilosevic8792 excuses...
@@emmanuel4549 It isnt though. He was visibly injured.I just enjoyed AO 2014 more because it was both players at full power.
Djokovic played his worst match of the tournament in the final, he was unable to attack for the most part of the match. Stan was insane, cant deny that.
Djokovic's playing style is usually defensive to make opponent hit UEs.
@@panyakorntaweechat8586 He was tired here though.Couldev had been a 5 setter.
Had it not been for the goddamn injury, I could've seen more matches like this. May players stay healthy.
I keep wondering why Novak didn't approach the net after such amazing strokes down the line? Wawrinka did. It was the biggest difference in this match.
cuz stan can punish it with the backhand winner straight to the baseline.
Is it just me or does Nole’s racket look too heavy for him?
He sometimes loses control of the follow through, leading me to believe its too much weight for him.
I think that black image and Windows sound is not really needed. It is a bit controversial I think. it is true that Djokovic seems to be outplayed here but a little bit desrectful still.
Stan Wawrinka, the man who actually had 2 forehands
You got to feel for Djokovic in some way. Stan didn't just beat him. He completely demoralised Djokovic in this match. As the match went on it looked like Djokovic had no answer for Stan's power and shot making.
The mentality man. Wonderful compiled.
This wawrinka vs Nadal Roland garros 2017
Who would have won?
Obviously, Stanimal.
Stan, the offense was insurmountable god himself would have lost that day.
Stan. In modern tennis best offense beats best defence, and no offense better than Stan even on clay.
Nobody can bet Stan at his consistent best. Every match is always in his hands
Calm down?
CaLMCee Yup because you are talking inaccurate things like majority here. Wawrinka actually manage few times in his career to win against big three but his overall H2H against Federer Djokovic and Nadal is simply ridicilous. Therefore there isn Wawrinka Gods mode only bad days of big three despite the fact I really but really love Wawrinka to watch.
Calm down
Nadal did
My favorite player Stan the man! How I wish I can watch this kind of match live.
Novak's forehand at 4:23 has me rolling lmao
Unbelievable hitting, he just stepped up a gear and all his shots were fizzing up the line or into the corners!
I think Stans best is better than anyone elses best....by a pretty big margin too
Stan’s combination of power punches mixed with change-up slices drove Novak insane this day.
Tom Courts The only problem with your theory is that "the Djokovic killer" (what a distasteful phrase, btw) has a 5-19 record against Djokovic.
@@Milan1502 slams tho.this emickey mouse tournaments don't matter much
nole was injured
Stan was like unloading missiles for four hours or so. 😎😀😀
Stan is one of the most underachieving tennis player in history. Andy Murray comes to mind too. Anyway, when Stanimal was "on" (didn't appended often), there was very little the opponent could do.
Backhand side of Wawrinka is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unbeatable.
stan the man
Always love to watch Stanmina play. My favorite player. So entertaining to watch. He is not playing not to loose. He plays to kill...Lol. If he is slightly more consistence with less unforced errors, slightly better movement and slightly more competitive, he will be unbeatable, just like in his three Grand Slams. He needs to keep those form up.
stan is like the male mandlikova.. when he is ON, he is pretty much unbeatable and it's incredible to watch..
I saw Hana on Maui in her prime. One of the most beautiful tennis players male or female...
It’s just unreal the kind of tennis Stan can produce!
Well, no harm done, Novak😂
Stan is just unbelievable in his moments!
When a player is in his peak during a set or two you just stand your ground and wait for it to pass. In this match Stan never stopped.
Where did you get that QF match with ESPN coverage? Where to download?
NO WINDOWS SOUND!
Bloody hell !!! 😳😳😳
Stan in a real Stanimal zone, freakish !!! 😳😳😳🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Djoker fan: ok we're getting our ass kicked out there, new tactic let's try to go toe to toe with stanimals ground strokes
Me:(laughs uncontrollably in Samuel l. Jackson's voice)
what a beast is Stan
the only thing stan is missing a bit are positive emotions. I wish he would celebrate more :D
Stan put a beat down on Djoker that day dayum!
Rafa played bad against Novak at Roland Garros in 2015.
Chris71319 he played extremely poor
Chris71319 I feel he couldn’t do anything about it Novak was too good that day
Omair Kazi if Rafa plays well on clay Novak has 0 chance.
Rafa played his worst clay court match
Nadal was a complete shadow throughout the 2015 season. Those were dark times.
Do one of these with tsonga vs nadal
(AO 2008)
That backhand is killer. Hardest hitter of tennis ball.
Djokobic est tjs un bon perdant ✌👍
Stan est merveilleux a regarder avec ces revers.
Aggressive, tactically brilliant tennis.
tired...yeah right when he gets beat.
@@dc0407 He played 2 days vs murray in 5 sets.
Wow. And he was given the trophy by Kuerten who also has one of the best one handers.
it's stans favorite surface, it's like federer on grass btw.
In that case hard is also his favorite surface.
1st set won by Djokovic
2nd set, he had break points, was up 30-0 on serve and lost the game to give Wawrinka the second
3rd set, he had break points
4th set, up a break, had 3 break points, and lost a tight game at 4-4 and 4-5 to lose RG.
Oke nice touching text in the beginning, but come on @2:21 was to make fun off Novak haha
M a fed fan but m glad djoko got the french open in 2016 he deserved it.
Do you have original/unedited footage of this?
Djokovic was prepared for Nadal after all these years but question of Wawrinka was out of course!
Djokovic winning a set against this stan is very incredible actually
