Excellent job once again SP, great inauguration!
Thanks man! Glad you stopped by!
Ive always loved the 200 on final when they dumped the flaps in felt like pure 30 degrees nose down while it was flying level 😆
Definitely one of the trademark CRJ-200 features. That classic nose down attitude on final.
@@sla31 didn't Mistsubishi buy the CRJ Program from Bombardier?
@@arkilos2253 they did. I’ll continue to call them Bimbardiers though, and here’s why. I call aircraft by the manufacturer name that produced them the longest. So, I call the A220 an Airbus even though it was designed by Bombardier because Airbus has been manufacturing them longer. On the other side, I won’t call the CRJ-200 a Mitsubishi because Mitsubishi bought the program after production has ended and Bombardier produced them for years and years. Another example is the 717. It was the McDonnell Douglas MD-95, but Boeing produced the aircraft for its entire life.
@@sla31 thanks for the reply, just got very confused with the title.
Earlier than I expected 👏
You know me. If it’s an important flight. Inaugural, final, etc. I try to post them as early as possible. I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Amazing video as always! Gotta love the sounds of the CRJ! =D
real nice video. love the clarity of 4k!
Thanks my friend. I appreciate you watching!
I love the noises this plane makes! Heaven for me :D
The clouds are STUNNING
Great video again.
To me, CRJ shall forever stand for Canadair Regional Jet. And Bombardier will forever be the sole manufacturer.
One avgeek channel dares label it 'Mitsubishi' Bombardier, which I guess Is the 'proper' way to label them although unaware of that company absorbing Bombardier's assets--the horror! :)
Nice smooth landing!
When we fly, my wife hates when they throttle back to climb thrust like at 14:18. I've explained it repeated, she still doesn't understand why LOL
she doesnt understand? sounds like she is too scared to think about it... simply u need speed to go airborne with flaps down
Wonderful flight.
That was nice. Thanks!!
And thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
I know it’s uncomfortable the CRJ -200 but I love those engines sound like music to me
GE CF34-3B1 🥰
Sat in this exact seat on a crj 200 from Detroit to Cedar Rapids. Never again roughest ride ever.
CRJ's are notorious for being loud and uncomfortable. I'd be fine never flying on one again to be honest haha.
Whoa that's nice vid my friend 😃
Thanks my friend!
cool video man nice livery
Thanks for watching my friend!
Had some good vapor trails coming off the flaps as you went below the clouds in Houston. Wish you would had been onboard it coming back today (06/06) it came right over Baxter.
Sadly, I was on another flight on the 6th heading from DFW-ANC.
Very nice
Thanks my friend!
2 observations: 1) I've never seen a jetway go "up" to a regional jet before. 2) CRJ 200 is the worst regional jet flying, imho. But I'm glad you're getting service again at JLN.
Yeah, you don't find many airports like JLN where the jetways connect at to the building at ground level and then go up to the aircraft. Fort Smith, Arkansas also has some that I know of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others as well, but still not something you see everyday. And technically, we never were "without" service at JLN. I had just stopped flying out of there because American had scheduled their one daily flight to DFW at like 7:40pm. American left on May 31, 2021 and United/SkyWest started on June 1, 2021. It is great though to have multiple options of flights and destinations now though.
New flight in Gulfport Mississippi ✅ done.
Good Lord you rocketed out of there on takeoff it seemed like haha
Wow, that was a good flight in a United express Bombardier CRJ-200ER, in the next video do a flight of Chicago-Phoenix in United airlines or American Airlines, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, thank you :]
crj-200 is a nice plane. Flown from detroit to charlotte and back many times.
This takeoff sound from a CRJ regional jet reminds me of the B717 and all MD aircraft
Meh,I disagree--I'm thinking the 200's engines are almost identical to an A-10 Warthog--that takeoff sound is virtually identical from the outside
@@jasonmoors1191 these are basically civilian TF34s haha
The sound is very different from the other Bombardiers, and as small as a school bus 😂😂
I live literally 2 miles from the SE edge of the runway. Went to JLN on 5.31 to see final AA flight come in. AA cancelled it stranding the 30 passengers at DFW. I asked AA CS agent how customers were supposed to get back to Joplin. (It was Memorial Day). His response was "that's Skywest's (United) problem! Geesh. Talk about goodwill!! Glad to have IAH/DIA/ORD for connections now from JLN instead of just one option (DFW) as previously. Now if the fares can come down a bit :) hehe
That’s too bad. I’d heard American canceled their last flight, I hadn’t heard anything more about it though. The airfare prices out of JLN generally have been pretty competitive in the past if not cheaper than other area airports. Unfortunately, right now with travel demand at a record high for the last year and a half, prices are going up at the moment.
I thought AE also had flights to ORD in addition to DFW
@@jasonmoors1191 they did for about 6 months, and then Covid hit, and despite being under a revenue guarantee from the city they broke the contract and ended ORD flights citing Covid as the reason, but still requested 100% of the contracts “revenue.” So that ended a long time ago.
Oh baby!
Thanks for watching my friend!
MMMMMMM some gud quality content.
Thanks my friend!
@@sla31 ye no problem my guy! just keep making quality content and I gives u quality comments. :)
Hello. Is United Express still flying the JLN-DEN and ORD routes? I was wondering how the pandemic has effected service from JLN. Hoping demand and service is still good from there.
Yes, United and SkyWest are still serving JLN from DEN and ORD. IAH is seasonal. Thanks for watching my friend.
The engine noiseeeee
Would like to see more JLN United Express flights on your channel especially the JLN-DEN run.
I have all of them coming up. I took all the inaugural flights, I just haven't had time to get them posted. It's been crazy at work, and I leave for vacation in a couple days. So, I've been trying to get ahead there. That said, before I went in to work today, I left my computer rendering the second one, which it has now finished. It's still not 100% ready as I have to get the title, descriptions and stuff finished, but I hope to have it posted in the next day or two. As soon as I get it ready, I'll slot it in to the next full flight day, which are Monday's Thursday's and Saturday's. So, most likely this Saturday.
I’m sure you’ve been busy especially with those three inaugural flights UE offered from JLN. I just thought I’d throw it out there SP. Love your videos! Always fantastic with beautiful detail. Especially like the fact you live in my hometown of Joplin, MO and I get to see the latest flights and service out of JLN! Keep up the good work and have a great and relaxing vacation! 😎🌴🌈🥂
Enjoy your flight united express airlines
It was a great flight. All of the other flights that day were as well. Things are always great when everything is on time. It’s when there are delays and problems that ground crews and flight crews can really shine or not.... On inauguration day, we did have some thunderstorms move through the Denver area, which caused about an hour delay on the inaugural Joplin to Denver flight. We had already boarded the flight in an attempt to beat the storm, which unfortunately didn’t work. But the cockpit crew and flight attendant were very forthcoming with information, handed out plenty of water to the passengers. They turned a bad situation into a manageable situation and everyone on board was content. There’s nothing anyone can do about weather and thunderstorms. And SkyWest crew handled the situation exactly like you would hope.
How long is this flight? IAH-TUL/XNA is around an hour in the air
I’d say, typically, probably around 1 hour and 15 minutes. On this particular day, there were thunderstorms in and around the Houston area, which was causing some flow control, and some slowing of aircraft coming in. So it was closer to 1 hour and 45 minutes. I’d imagine as time goes on the average will probably come down from that.
What happened to the CS and ramp employees when the airlines changed hands at JLN?
From what I’ve heard, some retired, some transferred to other stations like XNA, and some took jobs with SkyWest. I think SkyWest and envoy we’re both pretty flexible to try to get people in the best situations for them.

I was expecting a pushback but surprised with the engine startup at the gate--that was one TIGHT right turn in leaving the gate area! The ground equipment must've been just feet from the nose! One good strong engine thrust and the pilot could've done a lot of damage to the gate area! Heretic that I am,I enjoy flying the -200's,good engine sound and they have good pickup on takeoff. I'm guessing neither JLN or UE had any gate festivities--simply was one day it was AE,the next day,UE,ho-hum. Not knowing UE's schedule,it might be possible to fly IAH-JLN>JLN-ORD or JLN-DIA. A pleasant surprise to know you lived in Houston long ago, what part of town did you reside in? IAH is my home airport,I live north of there about a half-hour--it must be a good feeling not to have to make the long drive to Tulsa for once--trying to film out the window is always a challenge, the window is so low, easy to to get a crick in the neck peering out! Did you simply make a one-day turn, back to JLN on the next flight out?
Yeah, American used to turn their aircraft out at Joplin for years. In fact, they didn’t start doing push backs until they started using larger aircraft a couple of years ago. Until then, for probably six or so years, American did the same thing United did here. I too enjoyed aspects of the CRJ-200, engines, nose down attitude when landing, etc. it’s the passenger comfort side that I don’t like. As for gate celebrations. SkyWest, United, and the city of Joplin did have festivities, but because of the limited transition time between American and United, they elected to have the welcome celebrations a few days after the inaugural flights. To give everybody involved a little more time to get things a little more presentable. Since United was taking over the same space that AmericInn was already occupying, from what I heard, it was difficult for United to get in while American was still operating flights etc. I lived in the Houston area for six years, in Sugarland. On this particular day I actually took five flights. All five were inaugural flights, and the routing was ORD-JLN-IAH-JLN-DEN-JLN.
I’m hoping JLN is able to keep those 3 United Express flights fairly full. Have you flown any of them since their inaugural flights?
I have. I've flown out of there a couple times after the inaugural flights. Every flight I've been on has been packed. I haven't had an open seat next to me on any of the flights.
Glad to hear they are flying capacity. Have you heard of an increase in frequency to/from their current destinations from JLN or possibly utilizing larger aircraft to accommodate the demand?
@@johncampbell3761 actually, unfortunately, they’ve done the opposite. They’ve cut IAH altogether. Which honestly doesn’t make sense. I’d heard that IAH was, by far, the best performing route. Supposedly, IAH was always going to be “seasonal” and it will be back in the spring, but they had added an additional IAH flight at one point. So we went from having two IAH flights to zero. Right now there’s just one ORD and one DEN flight.
I don’t understand why they would cut an obviously profitable route to nothing. Agreed that decision doesn’t make sense. I hope they do bring back the IAH route to JLN!
We’re you in 11 or 12D? Seems like it’s been time to age-out this model. The challenge is serving these smaller airports that may not have more than 20-30 pax each flight and operate a runway barely short of a mile. A 700 or 900 may not be a profit maker and be too close to the edge of hazardous in terms of load plan weight and braking distance. If it’s EAS, then different story; the Feds are subsidizing so maybe a more modern model could work. I think Embraer is developing a model bigger than the 200 and their 145 but smaller than the 175. Covid hurt that, though. An Airbus 220 seems too big, as does an E 170 or 175. I’m trying to figure out what would work best in terms of reintroducing air service to Oxnard, CA.
I was in 12D. And it’s interesting you mention that about the 200s. American actually had really good success with CRJ-900’s and ERJ-175’s in Joplin prior to Covid. In fact, for the last four years of American’s EAS contract, despite only being required to fly 50 seat jets into Joplin, they flew larger aircraft. Again, before Covid, American had also added Chicago service on top of the EAS Dallas route, and had six flights per day on CRJ-700’s and ERJ-175’s. So, it is entirely possible that United and SkyWest may increase the size of the aircraft, despite the EAS contract requiring only 50 seat jets. Actually, the last year or two the American was here, they actually dumped the EAS contract. They weren’t getting government help anymore. Joplin was actually kind of used as a role model for that system. Of how the federal government wanted the system to work. Help an established airline start service to an area that will eventually be able to self sustain it. Of course, Covid through all kinds of wrenches into things. According to some media reports that I’ve seen locally, United is reporting that they’re at 90%+ average load factors already. Which, for a completely new carrier, on an EAS contract, in the first week, is unheard of. So, I have no idea if larger planes is even in the cards for United, but I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar were to happen here.
Actually wonder Why not one big airport between Joplin, Springfield, Branson and Fayetteville. Nice flight though.
Well, each of those areas are big enough to warrant having their own airport. Even Joplin, the smallest of them, has a base population of over 50,000. That said, geography is probably the biggest reasons. Joplin, which would be central to the cities you listed if you add in Tulsa as well. It's 1.5 hours to get to SGF, 1.75 hours to get to XNA, 1.75 hours to get to TUL and 3 hours to get to MCI. So, most people don't necessarily want to drive all that way, even if the price is slightly better. On top of all of that. Again, Joplin is the smallest area, and if you include all of the other little cities that are with 15 minutes of Joplin, the population explodes to nearly 250,000 people. Then Springfield is nearly 500,000 and with Branson added in, which is not included in Springfield's metro population it goes up to nearly 600,000. And Bentonville is roughly the same, at about 500-600,000 in its metro population. So, they're all big enough to support their own airports.
@@sla31 well put. I'm familiar with the areas you mentioned but appreciate you taking the time to write back. Actually some talk of a similar proposal for central Illinois involving a big airport at a midpoint between Peoria, Bloomington Normal, Decatur and Springfield. We shall see, I guess. MRB
I live just south of Grand Lake, this gives me another option for flights, the downside is the CRJ 200 is my least favorite aircraft
I can’t argue with you on that. The CRJ-200 is not my favorite aircraft by any stretch of the imagination, but, the fact that Joplin now has daily access to three major hubs is really incredible. I am willing to be a little cramped for an hour or so to make sure that this succeeds for SkyWest and United. In my opinion, it’s a small price to pay for the convenience of having such a great network at our local airport. Hopefully it does well for them, and who knows, maybe SkyWest and United will decide to increase the aircraft size in the future. I have no idea if that’s even on the table, but we can hope!
Was the pilot dumping fuel during the landing?
No, that was simply a vapor trail. When there is a lot of humidity in the air, the pressure difference caused by the wing/flaps causes that moisture in the air to condense. So, you're basically seeing a small line of clouds being formed.
In total how much did this flight cost?
I believe United had introductory fares for $89 one-way. I don’t know if that’s still in effect. I don’t specifically know how much this segment cost me, because I booked a multi-city record that had all six inaugural flights in one record.
@@sla31 ok thanks
I had to read up on how JLN, who's on EAS, gets service to 3 hubs, when other EAS cities are getting 1. It appears the local business community is throwing in money in addition to the DOT subsidy. More communities should do the same, instead of complaining all the time about lack of service.
Wasn't American flying E-175's in there at one point?
Yes. Pre-covid, American had actually opted out of an EAS subsidy altogether and was easily running CRJ-900's and ERJ-175's into JLN. Hopefully United and SkyWest can at least up it to the CRJ-700 in the future.
Great video! I have trivia/quiz question for you. The Ho Chi Minh City airport in Vietnam, Tan Son Nhat International Airport, is SGN, a IATA airport code. Without looking up, where does IATA airport code SGN come from? If you give incorrect answer, I will reply to you with correct answer.
Well, I don’t consider myself an expert on Vietnamese history or Vietnamese airports in general. But, I would imagine it has something to do with the fact that Ho Chi Minh City, if I am remembering correctly, used to be Saigon.
on Jeopardy that would be at the top of the column of questions - i.e., easiest ones
Remember the Joplin Tornado in 2011???
I worked on the new Mercy Hospital
And, assuming you’re the same Michael Sharp on Instagram, as we have discussed, I do remember. I was home that day. I I hope to never have to experience something like that again.

Hi
Hello 👋🏻.
Ugh from e75 to a crj? No thanks. I prefer continental to aa any day of the week. But if it is a crj 1 or 200 i would rather walk.
Well, to be fair. American quit E175 service when Covid hit. So, it was really ERJ-145 to CRJ-200. But, I do agree that the E-Jets are better. Hopefully the service does well and SkyWest/United will upgrade to at least the CRJ-700.
