Many parents, church leaders, and evangelists on television were saying this and that were evil without actually examining it. I’ve been going through a lot recently and although I managed to not turn back to drugs I’ve been struggling with my religion. For some reason I’ve watched the 3 videos with this pastor talking video games and just hearing him talk has sort of re breathed faith back into my life
Hearing an actual priest's reaction and introspection about this game is secretly something I've always wanted to hear. Pastor Parker was both informative, and well-learned, able to identify not only the christian parallels the game makes, but the greek mythos as well. Would very much like to see him come back and identify another game with heavy religious overtones, like Outcast 2, maybe?
Pastor, not priest. And that is an important distinction. Because he isn't a Catholic priest, he can do a good job of giving an overall summary, but we don't get a more in-depth explanation of certain things, like Purgatory, the Seven Sins, or the reason behind the demon babies beyond "they aren't baptized."
Beatrice eating the pomegranate seeds specifically is also a reference to Persephone doing the same to tie herself to Hades - the pomegranate being a symbol of the indissolubility of marriage. Satan also does the bridal carry with Beatrice after the fact.
That being said Hades and Satan are completely different Hades and Greek mythology was probably the nicest guys you could meet he didn't do anything outside of ruling the underworld which was a necessity and would usually help Greek Heroes out when they came to the underworld the most damning thing he did was marrying Persephone but the versions of how that happens are different depending on which version of the story you look at
The word "hell" in the English language is rooted in Germanic/Viking "hel." Christians had no word to describe it in those languages so it became a loan word that means the same. Hel = the place people go that don't go to Valhalla. Hell = the place people go to that don't go to heaven.
In the original Hebrew bible, the term is "Sheol", which is also not entirely different sounding. However, when the OT was translated in Greek around 200BCE, they used the term Haides or Hades for hell, which is the same as the name of the greek underworld. This was also used when the NT was written later in Rome. English being a Germanic language, "Hell" is most likely derived from "Hel" as you mentioned. Similarly the German term "Hölle", which in some dialects is pronounced "Helle".
This guy is great man! Hes teaching you and giving you information, BUT he isnt trying to force his views onto you he is simply educating you on the subject.

I love the outlook you bring to the table, and the conversations that could happen through gentlemen like you and your presence here. Much love, brother.
The three pomegranate seeds Beatrice eats are also a reference to Persephone, the wife of Hades, who ate three pomegranate seeds while she was in the underworld, meaning she had to stay in the Underworld with Hades for 3 months out of the year, which angered her mother, Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture (that's not the only thing she does, but that's the main thing that's talked about in regards to her), and so she made the Earth cold for those 3 months that Demeter was separated from Persephone.
This was so interesting - I knew a bit about Dante before I played the game but getting the Christian perspective was really enjoyable and interesting!
This Channel is legit awesome, bunch of comments on the last priest react talking about this game and boom delivered, keep being this good and listening to the people.
When you mentioned that anger isn’t a sin & it’s a healthy emotion, this much is true; the PROBLEM is if you use your anger so much where it becomes too much of a part of your life. Even when you’re angry for no reason at all, it can take up a huge part of your time you should spend with being happy.
I remember our literature teacher telling us about Dante's Inferno, despite how dark it's theme is. This is my childhood game lmao, I kept bragging how I played it without a hesitation while my classmates were crying over the animated movie. 😅
Same. I played Dante's Inferno a ton back in highschool and even managed to beat it on the hardest difficulty on a weekend. Learned a lot about catholic theology here from Virgil's descriptions, learned about dozens of historical figures from the Punish/Absolve NPCs, and lastly learned about the Divine Comedy.
We could use more of this guy on this channel when it come to these types of topics. I’m far from religious but I like the way he represents his faith by telling his different interpretations of various mythology. He should do Devil May Cry. I wonder what he’ll say about Demons saving life on earth

8:24 Ephesians (4;26) “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. Yes I agree to him Anger is not a sin but also we must not allow ourselves to be angry every day.
This man says "This is interesting" a lot. That's interesting. All kidding aside, this is really cool to see and chill to be around, it's a fun way to learn more. I wonder what this man would think of the Darksiders games as they are still quite based on/inspired by Christianity and other mythologies (like how Bheithir in Darksiders 2 is apparently from an obscure... i think Scottish tale), though with a lot of stuff to make it its own thing. Very nice video, all in all! Pleasure to see.
I enjoy videos with mr. Parker. He's one of those people on "Experts react" who can really convey in detail what he knows on the topic at hand. I realize that it's sorta his job to be both knowledgeable and eloquent, but it really works for this kind of videos.
This insight's really good, and as I do agree the seven deadly sins aren't necessarily evil at face value, it's the excess of it and letting it become the host instead of a guest is what got those souls into their respective paths that they're in now. This game really fleshed out those corrosive archetypes of excess perfectly, all things considered
Very pleased with the Pastor. The subject is based and knows what he is talking about, as an enthusiast of Christian and Greek mythology, I can only regret that the game has not had a sequel, because it would be beautiful to see the twisted version of Purgatory and Heaven.
Dante's Inferno is a fantastic game. If anyone wants to look into just how good the game really is with its narrative design and intent, as well as its faults in the path to greatness, I recommend a video done by RagnarRox - Which also teaches you how you can get to playing the game yourself if you want to. This is one of the best videos on the channel, by the way. Genuinely great stuff.
I love how Gamology listened to my/our suggestion that this man of God check out Dante’s Inferno! I was hoping for him to talk more about how the suffering of the souls in hell reflected their sins while they were still alive, but it was still great to hear his insight!

@@williamthompson1455 What is the it that is roman? Dante's inferno is a mash up of other mythos to include Greek and Roman. This is great for this weekend. I appreciate every faith and idea, but was raised Catholic. This man, who’s practicing Christian, can explain and is as open minded as most in this time. It’s good to know that open minded people are still here.
In Greek mythology Persephone ate the pomegranate seeds which made her bound to Hades the place. In Dantes Inferno it was a pomegranate which does parallel Genesis with a forbidden fruit that would have consequences for being consumed.
From this guy I would like to have a theology class over and over. Things explained this way are worthy into looking up and learning from. I must emphasize that is learning and not pushing the religion. So this video was just incredible
One thing I think its interesting he didn't notice, especially given how many parallels he drew between the Greek and Christian stories, was that the fruit they chose was a pomegranate. The same one Perspehone ate, which ended with her betrothed to Hades and trapped in the Underworld for half the year.
One thing this guy gets confused often is he seems to think Dante is the equivalent of Jesus which he’s not. The reason why Dante needs to do these things in game is to absolve himself, Jesus obviously didn’t need absolving. Jesus saved everyone while Dante had to save himself. But in real life there is nothing a human can do to earn salvation, only god can do that AKA Jesus’s sacrifice.
What I love about this is he isn't ready to call this the devil. But I really do love how he tries to explain the meaning behind the aspects of biblical parts and tries to explain people who don't know the true meaning behind it instead of saying this is evil and the writer is evil
It's a shame you missed the scene where they discuss how he finds all these people relevant to his own suffering because not just is he in hell, he is in 'his' hell. And everything he sees comes from his mind and life. I always found that scene very interesting.
i love this channel so much. i learn a lot by it, and today I learned a lot more about the bible in an honest non-churchy way than i actually did in church. Currently writing a tv script about the seven deadly sins and his teachings gave me some very mindful notes. Thank you Gamology!
It was a missed opportunity that they didn't show the Cerberus battle where Dante does the Holy Trinity to defeat Cerberus. I would've wanted him to react to that.
This was a video I've been waiting on and requesting. And I would love to see him react to a SMT game preferably one from the mainline series, or better yet Darksiders 1 for their take on the Apocalypse and their possible parallels to writings of Daniel in the Old Testament, and John via the Book of Revelations in the New Testament.
the rest of the Darksiders games could possibly be neat too. Especially in regards to the Nephilim. And i wonder if he'd pick up on the names of the main bosses from Darksiders Genesis: Mammon, Dagon, Astarte, Moloch and *maybe* Belial too are names that have a decent bit of historical interest to them, not just being tied to the Bible.
would it be possible to have Princeton react to Evil Dead the Game when it comes out? it might be ridiculous but I know there is a lot of demons and evil powers that I would love to hear his opinion on.
If another game involving christianity could be covered by Pastor Parker you need get him to check out SMT, any of them would be a good choice and the commentary each of the routes provide would be interesting to see hear his thoughts on, thanks for getting him on again, cheers guys!

That was a time I tell you. Many parents, church leaders, and evangelists on television were saying this and that were evil without actually examining it.
He and generations under him are much more likely to examine something thoroughly before making that call.
I’ve been going through a lot recently and although I managed to not turn back to drugs I’ve been struggling with my religion. For some reason I’ve watched the 3 videos with this pastor talking video games and just hearing him talk has sort of re breathed faith back into my life
I like how unbiased this guy is, not pushy, not preachy just informative. This is a good guy right here.
I think you mean “Outlast 2”.
@@greywalker505 yeah... friggin' autocorrect...
This...was surprisingly interesting. I really hope they get him to cover/take a look at Blasphemous.
Now That Game Is DARK!.
It Would Be Interesting I Agree.
Duuuuuuude. Yes.
In romance languages is "Inferno"
This guy is great man! Hes teaching you and giving you information, BUT he isnt trying to force his views onto you he is simply educating you on the subject.
This guy rocks. Even as a non-Christian, I love that he's knowledgeable and shares his understanding of theology in a way that's both accepting and informative.
Great commentator, chill demeanour while explaining himself really well. Would love to see more!
That's called wrath
This man's knowledge is amazing!
This was like geeking out with his knowledge and I enjoyed what he was telling us. This is a dope priest would love to see more appearance of this guy.
Priest: I think that is "Vergil"
My mind:
BURY THE LIGHT DEEP WITHIN
CAST ASIDE THERE'S NO COMING HOME!
WE'RE BURNING CAOS IN THE WIND
DRIFTING IN THE OCEAN AAAAALL AAAAALOOOOOOOOOOOOONE
I hear Vergil and my first thought is POWER
8:24
Ephesians (4;26) “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.
Yes I agree to him Anger is not a sin but also we must not allow ourselves to be angry every day.
Well yea but for some people it’s not easy
This man says "This is interesting" a lot.
That's interesting.
All kidding aside, this is really cool to see and chill to be around, it's a fun way to learn more. I wonder what this man would think of the Darksiders games as they are still quite based on/inspired by Christianity and other mythologies (like how Bheithir in Darksiders 2 is apparently from an obscure... i think Scottish tale), though with a lot of stuff to make it its own thing.
Very nice video, all in all! Pleasure to see.
This game is great such a underrated game
I enjoy videos with mr. Parker. He's one of those people on "Experts react" who can really convey in detail what he knows on the topic at hand. I realize that it's sorta his job to be both knowledgeable and eloquent, but it really works for this kind of videos.
This insight's really good, and as I do agree the seven deadly sins aren't necessarily evil at face value, it's the excess of it and letting it become the host instead of a guest is what got those souls into their respective paths that they're in now. This game really fleshed out those corrosive archetypes of excess perfectly, all things considered
Yes! I actually cheered when he said there’s a difference between apology and repentance. Repentance is so much more than saying sorry.
I love this guy, I'd love to listen to one of his sermons!
That was a very interesting episode. I didn't even know this game existed. Smart choice, gameology.
this was quite chill and a bit educational. Thank you for the vid. Although im a devout atheist, I enjoyed this vid and the history and all of this
holy shit, I'm just replaying the game right now what a coincidence
I just want to thank Gamology for brining my boy to this. I love his outlook, knowledge, and how genuinely cool he is. PLEASE KEEP IT COMING PRINCETON AND GAMEOLOGY!!
It was cool to see Greek and Christian mythos being compared. It was different than their usual stuff, but very good.
Even though it's Roman and not Greek. Are we sure this guy know what he is talking about? I'm not. Sounds like a bunch word salad in christian form. Alot of misinformation and nonsense. It's kinda sad. His other videos seemed better. Only seem a few. But this one was garbage. So much wrong information.
@@williamthompson1455 What is the it that is roman? Dante's inferno is a mash up of other mythos to include Greek and Roman. As an example, in Canto VI, Dante and Virgil come across Cerberus, a three-headed dog with beastly attributes. But I hear you, if you are a Christian some of his words could be off same if you are a believer in the old gods, etc... I think I just enjoyed the compare and contrast.
I really liked how detailed he was in describing each aspect of the game he noticed relates to the text or little tidbits
Really loved this reaction video
This game was so underrated. I hope they will consider making a sequel🙏
Best Priest is back at it again
This game was so damn good for its time. Brings a tear to my eye everytime I read "to be continued.." at the end 😢
I was watching one of these earlier, and actually thought "I'd like to see him do Dantes Inferno", now here I am.
I like this guy. Yall always have great guests but the wat he broke it down is awesome
A pastor's take on the Diablo franchise would be cool too since the plot of Diablo is also inspired by Abrahamic faith
This was definitely a very interesting video to watch. This was one of my favorite games to play when it came out and I like how he draws the parallels between the mythos and the Christian theology.
Really enjoyed this video! This guy is great; with all the references and stuff. Good job!
Would love to see these kinds of videos with other religions and mythologies as well. Other religions like Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, etc and also mythologies like Egyptian, Chinese and Norse.
Great content 👍🏻
I enjoy listening to this guy's insight. Thanks, Princeton!
He should check out the mainline SMT series. lot of cool stuff in there.
Yessssssss
It is amazing to see how they’re trying to make a game based on religious and mythology stories. I love it,I’ve never played Dante’s Inferno but I someday want to try.
Play it.
Its a really good game.
Explores christian theology and greek mythology.
And the story is cool, too.
Its a good primer for anyone who wants to read the actual Divine Comedy.
What system is Dante inferno play on?
Princeton rally deserves to watch Priest Simultator, I'm really interested how will he react to profession of a priest being made fun of.
I like how he just breaks down scenes from the games and shows insight to his faith and not try to force us to into it
You know Christians are literally called to spread the gospel right?
this game deserved a sequel. still upset it never happened.
From this guy I would like to have a theology class over and over. Things explained this way are worthy into looking up and learning from. I must emphasize that is learning and not pushing the religion. So this video was just incredible
This dude explained it all really well
Yes! Been waiting for this game.one of my favorites on the 360
One thing I think its interesting he didn't notice, especially given how many parallels he drew between the Greek and Christian stories, was that the fruit they chose was a pomegranate. The same one Perspehone ate, which ended with her betrothed to Hades and trapped in the Underworld for half the year.
This is a great episode! More of this guy is needed for sure
I gained respect for this priest he admits some christianity stories come from other mythologies while most will not
He won't admit that the tales of Jesus and Christianity is a mashup of Horus, Mithra, and Zoroastrianism.

@@luigiff3431 Lol that is true. It's almost like simple truths and ideas are common in many religious that are set upon a universal basis
I wish Dante's Inferno got a remaster, it really deserves one.
It's a shame you missed the scene where they discuss how he finds all these people relevant to his own suffering because not just is he in hell, he is in 'his' hell. And everything he sees comes from his mind and life.
I always found that scene very interesting.
all of us here know in 2022 we need this game remastered
Please either have him react to or play FAITH. There's so many biblical aspects that could expanded on.
i love this channel so much. i learn a lot by it, and today I learned a lot more about the bible in an honest non-churchy way than i actually did in church.
Castlevania 64 also has it, in the beginning of Reinhardt's campaign.
All explained and articulated very well. I found this to be both informative and educational.
Yes the Holy man is back.
Super knowledgeable and passionate guy. He’s a good find.
He didn’t see the ending, when Dante went to paradise and you see Lucifer as a snake
we need a remaster of this game. It was alot of fun
@@jurtheorc8117 True on every level.
such a great video. please bring him back again!
would it be possible to have Princeton react to Evil Dead the Game when it comes out? it might be ridiculous but I know there is a lot of demons and evil powers that I would love to hear his opinion on.
...a priest that I wouldn't roll my eyes so hard at I'd run the risk of blinding myself. Amazing.
If another game involving christianity could be covered by Pastor Parker you need get him to check out SMT, any of them would be a good choice and the commentary each of the routes provide would be interesting to see hear his thoughts on, thanks for getting him on again, cheers guys!

Very very cool I love the books and the game and the story in general and hearing anyone give their opinion on the events and symbolism is wonderful cause it's such an onion of a story so many layers
Y'all have to agree though, Dante's Inferno is soooooooo underrated.
This gave me a wave of nostalgia when I played this game back in high school.
As a believer in Jesus I thought this was really cool to watch.
