And Dante can just resist Death? Just like that? And his weapon happens to join him in the afterlife? By that logic, any crusader that has died could’ve done the same thing, but were probably scared shitless to realize it. What made Dante so special? This was never explained in the game.

I still remember this game being completely overshadowed by God of War 3 a few months after the release at the beginning of April 2010. Nevertheless, it left a lasting legacy in me I can't leave unnoticed. Dante's Inferno gave me the motivation to appreciate the original text of the Divine Comedy (not just Inferno, but also Purgatorio and Paradiso) and even learn three cantos of the Inferno by heart at the age of 16. So much for videogames making us dumber, this one led to me spending hours and hours of reading commentaries and watching documentaries about one of the greatest literary works in written history.

I know what you mean, I feel like there’s more to the story/lore of Dante’s Inferno. I can see Dante’s Inferno having a lot more games just like the God of War franchise (even though others say it’s a GOW clone).
Those people are just God of war simps. This game is far better than God of war since you can control a giant monster.

Badass? Dante is an extremely flawed character. He's the opposite of a badass. Physically strong? yes. mentally weak? Hell yes.

This whole s**t started because some crook got lucky and managed to stab Dante in the back.
I shed a tear of pity for the poor kid leafing desperately through the book looking for this fight scene.
One thing I always loved about Dante is the grunts and breathing he does when throwing the scythe around, makes the fights more intense.
Agreed! His attack cries seemed super realistic. A very awesome part of the gameplay.

Well, with Lucifer defeated, there’s not really much you can move forward, but doesn’t mean you can’t remaster the game and make it longer. It’s supposed to take an eternity to travel from the first layer of Hell, the last layer of hell.
The last layer of hell is simply a frozen prison cell created for one purpose to in prison. Master mind himself once called the morning star god of the sun raw, but most people know his name is Lucifer.. the reason why Shown has frozen is because Lucifer power is fire and manipulation

I would love to see kratos vs dante
Kratos killed gods and has outmuscled hercules.
Dante has killed the most damned souls and rulers of hell, including lucifer.
Both are mortal and have powers that make them gods.
They both have weapons that are used personally by the gods and rulers themselves.
Both trained soldiers for thier own army and leaders as generals.
Both have had mothers that had a tormented curse until freed and a father who is the highest of the word: a bastard.
I would say kratos would win, but if dante would have gotten a sequal, then it would have been interesting to know what he could have gained.
You got some parts wrong. Kratos isnt a mortal , hes a demigod. Dante didnt kill lucifer , he only re- imprisoned him. Kratos is a son of zeus and has godlike strength along with the rage of sparta in him, not to mention kratos killed hades and has cheated death multiple times.

The one question I always had about this fight was that if Dante was killed, how was he capable of killing death? Makes me think there was some divine intervention or something, or maybe just his force if will allowed him to do so. Idk always made me think

It's because Dante isn't "dead" yet, since Death hasn't separated his soul from his body. Kinda like a limbo between life and death.
This was such an excellent game.! Kinda slipped through the net back on the ps3, I've still got the Death edition in my collection. They need to do a remake of this for the ps5 I reckon..or at least a second one.👍
i find it strange that death is the first boss in this game but the Bible literally states that death will be the last to die.

What made this fight so epic what how at the beginning Death points at you then slash the ground.
I played this on the hardest setting and was one of the few games i didnt finish. I was stuck on the final boss. I think i didn't get enough gear or leveled up incorrectly because i did no damage at all 😅
Personally, i levelled up that gear where it gave me a constant flow of mana(spell energy), then, that healing gear. Mustve burned like 30min each time trying to get myself fully healed after each major fight. Yes, i suck, but, i still figured out a work-around to continue on. :)
I feel that, I've been playing the hardest difficulty and I'm stuck on a part.
Same, last Boss seemed impossible to me at the time. I might try it again now that I beat Ninja Gaiden 2 on master Ninja.
My hack and slash skills have improved.
One recommendation i have, is unlocking Divine Armor and leveling up to the max, since it makes dante invulnerable, and also heals him from LV 2 or 3, combine that with a relic virgil gives you in gluttony (i don't remember the name of the relic), and with redemption you'll breeze through Lucifer

I remember the first time I saw my friend do this and it’s still the most bad ass both death I’ve ever seen in a game busting the grim reapers own scythe down his fucking whole body with the most bad ass voice actor who you have to go listen to play Dracula in castlevania Netflix series right now if you don’t know what I’m talking about !

some of you might not have noticed when satan said alexander and others tried but failed... meaning they also killed death so i'm guessing either death gets replaced or respawns. and if death dies and gets killed he either drops down to a bad part of hell for eternity or gets perma deleted into nothing. who assigns death? satan or god? because if death has to be replaced when death is defeated then someone has to be doing the assigning and someone has to be chosen as the replacement.

Yeah I'll tell you what. My significant other and I just wanted to go through pain so we made a drinking game. We played on inferno difficulty and for ever 5 deaths we had to take a shot. Twas truly an inferno we had to overcome lol.
Btw I dont condone drinking or making a game out of it; we were sinple just trying to have fun.
The only other person who gave a reaper a run for him money and almost defeated him was Betty White

I would have liked to see the repercussions of killing death, the game features killing off the rest of the horsemen of apocalypse, Dante assimilating their powers.
Then he would have become too OP for hell to restrain.
come to think of it, that could've been an awesome way to open up the sequel, and maybe a recurring motif for the series had they actually made some damn sequels

Y'know... I get it's just a game & all, _buuut,_ real talk, one would expect the physical personification of "Death" to put up a bit more of fight.
Death in any game should be more like final boss material; not some tutorial fight mook..!
An excellent point, however, death, in many religions, and this game, are just the beginning. The final boss in this game was the devil, himself. That said, if the developers DID want to continue with this game, they could write it as the protagonist of that game finding death, who recaps his fight with dante, and explains that death will never truly be defeated. Simply staved off for a moment only to return at full strength. Which, in reality, is truly what does happen. We stave off an illness from weakening us so much that death cannot take us only to have death return at another time waiting to claim us at another time.
