Never have I been so disturbed in a souls fight, The Rotten and The One Reborn included. Rykard is the epitome of disgusting freak who rejected his humanity for power and I absolutely love the fight for establishing him in all of his twisted nature.
Great gimmick fight with the serpent spear. The design of Rykard is truly disturbing. You have to wonder if the art team at Fromsoft use their own nightmares to come up with some of the bizarre creatures we fight.
This looks like Georgie's work tbh. It's very biblical and Dante-esque, the lord who had gorged himself in gold and flesh, accompanied by a snake eating at his neck, very very religiously inspired.
It seems to be a two crossed reference from Berserk. In the Black Swordsman Arc, was a Manor Lord who quite literally could turn himself into a Snake-Warrior as he was an Apostle for Demons. Anotherone is a Giant Warrior, who well has the Blood of Giants in him who could turn himself into a Dragon.
You know he might be one of the cut bosses from Bloodborne which was going to be a giant snake ball and was also super freaking huge just like Rykard but they didn’t have a big sword it would just bite and spit out venom.
Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Insanely awesome boss design aside, can we just appreciate the voice acting?? That voice had such a good combination of cunning, confident and deceit as you'd expect from an evil snake. I'm sure it was no coincidence they picked a giant scary ass serpent dude in the fiery bowels of a volcano to be a "lord of blasphemy" hell bent on opposing the powers that be. Every tiny detail in this game's design makes me so happy. Easily the best I've played and I don't even think I'm half way finished with it hahaha

He lives up with his name "lord of blasphemy". l have heard about a real demon king of hell who has snake body with a human face, portrayed exactly like this boss.
What a terrifying foe, I am shaking when Rykard appeared, but when I beat him I got a really exhilarating feeling. One of the best boss fights I have ever had.
The music composition imo is one of the key points that makes this such an awesome boss fight. Really gives of the feeling that YES.. your fighting a demigod. Praetor Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy.
This castle is one of my favorite areas, and this is my favorite boss fight in the game by far. Dodging his attacks feel so satisfying and the serpent hunter sword has such a nice flow with its attacks.
I know right, from the second you step foot in volcano manor you just know that whoever is the boss of this place has got to be evil incarnate and the game does not disappoint as they manage to blow your mind even beyond what you were expecting in terms of a bad guy. A truly incredible boss, musical score, fight and reward, everything about it is top notch. Besides him, and of course besides Sekiro bosses because that's cheating, I'd say my favorite bosses were Sinh, the Twin Princes, the twin demons, and Ludwig.
This boss fight gives a whole 1980's sword and sorcery feel. Like something you'd expect to see out of Conan the Barbarian. Right down to the music. Dunno if that was the intent of the designers for the fight, but it sure nails just how epic this fight is. And how good it feels to finally beat it.
I really like how Elden Ring pulls from a lot of different fantasy aesthetics in a really cohesive way. There's definitely that aspect of pulpy 80s sword and sorcery, but I also enjoy that it pulled from medieval fantasy that's a bit more antiquated or esoteric compared to the predominantly Gothic plate armor aesthetic of the Souls games. You still get a few examples like Solaire in Dark Souls, but there's a lot more design invoking heraldry or the look of antiquated world maps or alchemical art. Rykard himself looks like an anthropomorphized serpent God you'd find in some hermetic text. Then there's still a lot of Japanese folklore and influence though less pronounced than Sekiro, with bits of Norse mythology and more modern Tolkien-esque fantasy elements. The concept artists and art designers really went all out with Elden Ring and pulled off something incredibly unique.
As much as I love Radahn, Rykard is on a whole other level... The voice acting, the OST and especially the stage became hell. I am just waiting for my copy to arrive by mail so that I can experience this boss and the world of Elden Ring.

I love how they aren't all ugly. Like, we have some ugly bosses, downright beautiful bosses, weird bosses, and then there's whatever the fuck this awful thing is
Despite me sucking at these dark souls mechanics, I have to give credits when due. I am speechless at how impressive and amazing Elden ring is. The amount of detail, the amount of different monsters and bosses is astonishing. And for being a single player experience for the most part it’s what truly makes this game shine. Look at the detail in this boss’s room. The boss itself is unique and not a simple copy paste from other monsters. By that I mean it isn’t just a reskin of a previous boss. Most game nowadays have to their core a few assets of enemies, it could be as low as 5 but all of them are just reskinned or have more armor or health and that’s about it. Elden ring is what games should aim to be. A game that will truly suck you in and not let you go that easily. A game that will always find a way to surprise you and keep you entertained. I bow to the masterminds behind this gorgeous piece of art.
@@captainblue5096 there are definitely a bunch of reskins, but the core number of bosses is still a hefty amount. The number of completely unique ones still far surpasses most games.
Every boss? Did you sleep on the open world side dungeons? Boring as hell. I agree they did well with the storys main bosses, but the side content is awful.
@@mayakashiii fair point I wouldn’t call all the dungeons boring tho, for their first open world souls-like I was pretty impressed with how much there was to do while exploring. Some of the bosses were a little lackluster without a doubt, but the good majority were really cool looking and were an actual challenge I had to switch play styles for. all a matter of opinion tho
I think an overly graphical focus can ruin the game and make it unrealistic. It's like they got a movie director to produce the game. That being said the mechanics look fine, they're not interesting but they blend well with the graphical focus which is top tier as far as I've seen. I would prefer mechanics, and almost everything else, over graphics but it's really interesting.
@@mayakashiii Many of the side dungeons are great. Side bosses in this game are different from other fromsoft games. They’re much more minor and more like mini bosses. I feel like you’re holding them to the standard of side bosses from other fromsoft games. They’re different.

I love how this whole area is a reference to ds3, with the godskin noble’s arena being almost identical to pontiff sulyvahn’s and this fight basically being Aldrich, down to the whole, “serpentine dude devouring gods” thing. You can even kinda hear Aldrich’s theme in the song.
This fight was tougher than I expected, especially with the weapon gimmick, I even upgraded the damn Nameless King spear and it still was tough. Great fight, and man Rykard's design has to be my favorite of the game.
It’s ridiculous how much damage one hit does. I’m having more trouble with him then any other boss because I always run out of flasks. I thought level 80 and all the experience on other bosses would help
@shawnoconnor8075 I still haven't beaten him I got him now to a quarter health on my 4th try so I will tomorrow, the fucking godskin noble took me about 80 trys and 5 hours until I figured out a viable strategy
I couldn't believe that there's was a second phase of this boss fight the first time I played. I was extremely relieved, with almost no refills, then a face appeared on the dragons neck and pulled a giant great sword from the dragons esophagus. I had to hold back the tears.

Malenia isnt really a visually stunning fight but the Haligtree is gorgeous. Gives us some insight to how Miquella liked to operate. I really hope hes in dlc.
Absolutely loved this fight. Imo the best second phase cutscene there is. When I first saw it I thought rykard was just going to give me the sword straight up especially since he was talking about joining the family and taking down gods together but yea that's fine.
Not gonna lie, this is Ludwig's fight, but bigger, even more gross, and the former glory of the god that once was is definitely brought back, if only for a moment.
This has got to be the best boss I have ever seen. I've said the same thing about the other main bosses in the game that I've fought but this just takes the cake.
I found that by using Great Serpent Hunt, you can consistently interrupt him when he’s casting his big rancor spell and then he immediately tries to cast it again, which you can interrupt as well. You can basically stun lock him forever as long as you keep your FP up and be careful not to get hit by one of the lava plumes that randomly appear on the ground.
For me this is the best boss in the game. It's perfect, it give me Berserk vibes, the ost is incredible and I love the fact that you have a sort of power up but you have to use it with skill, the stun from the weapon is a bit difficult for someone who doesn't know the weapon and the boss.
A lot of bosses in Elden Ring were pretty easy for me. Mainly because for that specific one, I was a bit overleveled. This is the first boss fight in Elden Ring in ages that gave me quite some trouble to beat. Absolutely enjoyed it.
Having seen many of the bosses, and rewatched their clips on RUclips, I can comfortably say, this is my favorite from a pure design aspect, like physical, if this was a painting, not moving, this dude would be number 1.
This shit is straight up terrifying. I fought him late at night and then had my first nightmare about him in years immediately after. Fucking hell. And that voice, me and my buddies do it for the meme but the first time it’s in person is nuts

Not the Gaping Dragon, not the Headless, not even the Orphan of Kos. Every aspect of his design absolutely chills me, from his guttural and sickly voice, to his uneven and almost vestigial human limbs, to his horribly misplaced face, all capped off with the hellish arena, bloody human agony, and flaming skulls. He literally looks like something you'd see in Dante's Inferno.
Hats off to the designers at From Software. I won't be sleeping well tonight.

Many aspects of these games is inspired by Berserk
It seems to be a two crossed reference from Berserk.
In the Black Swordsman Arc, was a Manor Lord who quite literally could turn himself into a Snake-Warrior as he was an Apostle for Demons.
Anotherone is a Giant Warrior, who well has the Blood of Giants in him who could turn himself into a Dragon.
You know he might be one of the cut bosses from Bloodborne which was going to be a giant snake ball and was also super freaking huge just like Rykard but they didn’t have a big sword it would just bite and spit out venom.
Rykard genuinely makes you feel like you are in hell. Such an awesome fight.
Even Darkeater Midir didn't give out the "How the fuck am I supposed to win this" feeling
Midir is waaaaaaay harder than Rykard tho. Rykard still an S tier From Soft boss along with Midir
This fight is harder than Midir without Mimic Tear, IMO
Ephesians 6:10-18 says,
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless. 😊

Absolutely the best boss of Elden Ring imo. Although if I had never played Sekiro and seen humanoid-bosses done to perfection, I would probably say Malenia was the best.
Same here dude.
I think it was a homage to Apostles in Berserk personally.
Thulsa Doom really bringing out the power of Set against Conan this time.
As much as I love Radahn, Rykard is on a whole other level... The voice acting, the OST and especially the stage became hell. I am just waiting for my copy to arrive by mail so that I can experience this boss and the world of Elden Ring.

While the game is great, a lot of this game’s bosses are reskins or upgraded forms of other enemies/bosses. Other than that though, you’re correct

I think an overly graphical focus can ruin the game and make it unrealistic. It's like they got a movie director to produce the game.
