So I thought "Hey let's try Sekiro...again...", and this time some how, some way it clicked. Genichiro 3rd try, mikiri counters, perfect reflects on his floating passage while answering with my own, and I did his last phase first try, lightning counter after lightning counter, nailed him, NO HESITATION. I just put it down for a bit cuz my hands have been hurting, I'm old. I'm at the ancient Dragons tree and blew through bosses after Genichiro. I beat her with no heals left and half health, amazing game.
the combat in this game is pretty unparalleled, not many games come close to it's fluidity and even none of the souls games have combat as forcefully engaging as this game. Though honestly I feel like this game doesn't have nearly enough bosses, and when you're like me, you play the game so much that you need mods to make the game harder
@@Solbashio Dark Souls combat is pretty basic. Elden Ring improves on it with features like Guard Counter, weapon counter and powerstancing but IMO it still doesn’t come close to Sekiro. Sekiro’s combat is so intense and fluid, while a lot of the time in DS/ER I feel as if I’m just waiting for my turn to attack. It’s weird because in all these games we’re the ones initiating the fights all the time yet Sekiro is the only time we’re on the offensive rather than starting a fight to play defensively
@@noamias4897 Because Sekiro is the game that most fluidly switches between offense and defense thanks to how the posture and parry systems work. There's no long stagger windows, no need to back off and wait for an enemy to finish swinging. Almost every attack in this game can be parried or dodged, and then you can immediately launch your counterattack. This is, imo, the best combat in the game and I genuinely hope we get a sequel.
So yes there is a lot of skill here but honestly it looks like quite a lot of mechanical gameplay. It's more than just skill. It's game knowledge. One could say it is optimised gameplay. You don't necessarily need a whole lot of skill to do this compared to fighting a boss in a less optimised way. Not saying this is worse than fighting less optimised, I honeslty find this sort of gameplay more impressive, at least the first time I see it and I'd probably enjoy doing it for a playthrough. However you could learn these chains and timings and then never struggle with any of these bosses but the moment something new comes out you have very limited ways of dealing with that if all you know is optimised gameplay.
@@YachiruALEPH I didn't ever say I dislike the fact that you can optimise your gameplay. Only that you can't optimise unless you already know the mechanics. For example, the first dark souls game I played was DSPTDE and back then I wasn't that good at those sort of games, not even talking souls like. Just generally the type of combat it had. The closest to it I had played before was Spyro. Until then I had played a lot of strategy games and a few Sengoku Basara type games. Dark Souls is vastly different. I had no skill to apply in the game type and no information on which to optimiss my gameplay. I kinda quit because I've always been one to get 100% (or at least close to that) on my games and so I went on to games I could actually progress in. Fast forward a couple of years and I got a ps4, DS3 and BB. I still wasn't good at Souls-like because I had no experience in that sort of game, however I had played games more similar to them compared to before so I could actually make some progress. Especially after playing BB since it taught me that shields aren't useful. I could manage in both but still wasn't great. I later made a few friends who all had played DS3 for quite some time. Now I had information but not a lot of skill, this information allowed me to improve, slowly but surely. At this time I could have optimised how I play but then would I have improved? Not really, yes I would have gotten better at fighting any one boss but when the next comes around I haven't improved much in handling that. While yes all these games have patterns to them, optimised gameplay does not mean "There is my attack window" it means "the boss does that so I'll do this exact combo without deviation followed by this ability and then I back off". Optimised gameplay is in theory perfect. It is the absolute best way to defeat a boss or achieve an objective and until something in the game changes that won't change. Again, this doesn't detract from what was done here, in my opinion it adds to it as optimised gameplay takes a lot to pull off on a scale such as this. It's just not exclusively skill based gameplay.
it’s a real shame they didn’t incorporate more of sekiro’s mechanics in though I could see why they didn’t with how varied the gameplay can be due to its nature of being an rpg. No matter how much I watch it, I still can't belive he chooses to pretty much only use thrust attacks against owl as much as possible, simply to flex his complete mastery of the combat. The one boss that can mikiri counter your thrust attacks to deal often one-shot levels of damage, and Ongbal goes out of his way to use thrust attacks whereever he can sneak them in. Absolute madlad...
The ultimate flex is him parrying Shadow Rush instead of Mikiri Countering it. Mistime it and Owl one-shots you.
@@liampowell5014 yeah its crazy man but I guess on NG+7 Charmless and yasharikus sugar buff you pretty much get one shot killed by every boss attack
Tbh, thrusting vs any boss except Owl is better since u don't over-do attacking and get punished for it lol

I retract all my previous statements about this game. Back 4 years ago I got stuck on GENICHIRO for MONTHS. Granted I was using opiates and my reaction time was GARBAGE, but until then since the mid 90s as a kid, I HAD NEVER LET A GAME BEAT ME. Until Sekiro. After quitting both Sekiro and later drugs, clean 2 years this coming April, I have beaten several difficult games like Hollow Knight, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and have PLATINUMED Elden Ring with all endings so Ng+6. The only ones to give me trouble were the Monkey and the true Monk. Thank Buddha for the Mortal Blade.

@@Solbashio Dark Souls combat is pretty basic. Elden Ring improves on it with features like Guard Counter, weapon counter and powerstancing but IMO it still doesn’t come close to Sekiro. This game has the best combat ina any game no doubt of that. This guy's skill is over the top. Wow!
now just realize how many times he had to die to get to this level of skill
