Dante would agree with you on him having an ego, in the second book in pergatory he realizes that he’ll probably have to spend a lot of time on the section dedicated to pride

I have read quite a bit of ancient literature and a big recurring theme is that ancient writers did not care about scene transitions. Over and over again, unless the work is specifically about the journey ancient writers simply don't have any problem moving their characters across major landmasses or decades of time with an abrupt throwaway line. I can point to examples of this in difrent myths across wildly different cultures, which really makes me think that scene transitions are quite simply a modern idea.
My favorite is in Orlando Furioso, where Astolfo and Charlemagne are talking in France and decide to go looking for Roland, and then in once sentence it goes 'and then they sailed to Africa' and it hard cuts to Astolfo describing the pyramids.

1:00:05 this stuff about hell is something i find very interesting to think about, we as humans tend be biased to our view point so its hard for us accepting the suffering and misery from hell since we are the ones on the recieving end, like taking as a example with the cycle of life, while we may feel bad for a prey being devoured by its predator, we know thanks to our advantgeious point of view that it is necesary for life to continue since if the predator didn't exist then there would be a overpopulation of especies of the prey and that would cause problems and would end up breaking the entire system down, but even if lets say the prey was a rational creature that knew the necesity of it being devoured by the predator for eveything to work properly, they would continue to not want to accept that fate, i feel like its basically the same for us, we humans obviously don't like accepting the horrors of hell, while God how can see the full picture sees the necesity of this so that creation can fucntion properly

You make a very good point in regard to last being about many things. I think one of the biggest problems in grade 2 lesson temptation is that because lust is inherently tied into well intercourse, one of the single most basic human drives there is what with the procreation of the species... That when that lust is an applied to things outside of sex like greed, jealousy, and definitely power, it can be very easy not to recognize how dangerous or alien that behavior is when it comes to wanting to meet a good, decent and you're morally sound life. Because Leslie such a natural human psychological component when we start listing for other things it's that much easier for the temptation or the pressure to build without us being aware of it because at least on some level part of it feels like it's a natural thing. When in reality less is essentially the minivan carpool equivalent of sinful behavior, pretty much everything have something of a partnership with lust...(there's a pun in there somewhere but I'm exhausted). Anytime is sin can travel on a carrier vehicle of sorts that mimics or is a legitimate aspect of humanity it's that much easier for people to be in denial to the truth or severity of what they're doing or allowing to be done. Sorry I know I'm not ideal audience member or follower demographically speaking..

34:00 its literal, its called the limbo of the fathers or bossom of abraham, a paradise in hell for those that died before Christ
when Christ gone to hell for 3 days after his crucifiction, it was to bring the souls of the bossom to heaven since he only opened the gates of heaven at that time

btw 39:00 during the narrative, as dante go to hell deeper and deeper, he become more prideful, and his hearth harden
but after when he go to purgatory and then heaven, its the complete opposite, he become more and more humble

Hey Andrew, really enjoying your opinions as a pastor.
Could you do a video on when
-the non-hebrew bibles changed from condemning pedophilia to condemning homosexuality
-the people that Cain met after going around the world
-old testament promoting slavery as long as you didn't kill the slave
Realize you might not see this, but it'd be cool.

I just don't think hell would be that full. Because the believers think they will go to heaven, and the non believers don't go to hell because there is no hell. To me a meaningless life is one where you didn't do your best to enjoy yourself while being a good person. If you are always grouchy, not improving yourself and making life worse for others, that's truly meaningless. To a believer I understand that's way different. But I know plenty of believers who caused less suffering and were happier than for example Mother Teresa. So just my take, her life meant less than some genuinely happy people, even if they were so without faith.

  • @jakethesyndicalist132

Question, are Jews leading a meaningless life because we follow god but "ignore" Jesus as are savior?

    • @-scrim

Jews don't even just "ignore" Jesus; they are explicitly anti-Jesus and blaspheme him.
      Yeah.

Indeed, god’s definition of good is VERY different from my own. Irreconcilably so.
I would never be happy in Heaven. Not in His presence.
