yea my friend got it and even though they dont have normal jets can barely fly it and are p2w player they still make 50k sl and 12k research points from 2 kills meanwhile my poor old wyvern makes 18k sl and 3k research, every patch they just add better and better premiums that make more and are more mindless to play
saddest part is though that some games they missle.... wait for it. ai... like why waste 4 missles one 1 ai since you cant aim and not even the missles can save it instead of maybe spending those 4 on a enemy?
Vertical targeting is NOT a laughing matter, defyn. Every year thousands of war thunder players are massacred by their decision to use vertical targeting, and it certainly isn’t funny.
@@uisce_ it supposedly aims the cannons a big higher to help shooting people straight forward, it's very finicky unless the shells are slow, helps a lot with Me262 and Migs
One additional thing I would take from this video is that, if you ever need help from a teammate, please try to help them to help you. Try to fly so that your ally can close the distance and even better, when he does, try to offer your attackers six to your ally.

@@esa4323 The missiles still need the heat to lock on regardless of radar. And it seems it's a common misconception that radar slaving increases the range of IR missiles. It doesn't.
if you turn it off in time, he won't get a lock. but you also won't be able to touch him and you will be drained of energy quickly. He can now just sit above you and wait for you to spool the engine up which is quite easily spotable because the engine smoke comes back out. There is quite a delay for it to spool up and if you turn it back off you didn't gain any speed, you can;'t turn it back on because you're too slow or you turn it off too late and he locks you anyways additionally if you wait too long you will eventually hit the ground, I don't think it's very viable. Unless you got backup, even then. Just don't stall yourself out.
I usually agree with a lot of your videos but this one, not at all if I’m honest. I got this thing and absolutely love it, it has awesome energy retention which is a great pair up with the rocket pods, and of course as you said Red Tops are pretty damn good. For me the Sea Vixen is also the ultimate Grinder as if I do end up dying it costs next to nothing at 4k repair cost. Thing is though at 8.3 it climbs better, retains energy better, and turns as tight as most other aircraft. Its also great at deck fighting, I thought it might not perform well at the deck but with rockets on the hard points the thing slays and it’s super fun. I sort if feel you just gave the normal response to this aircraft as you didn’t give the other weapons load outs enough if a chance. Just did the easy thing and stuck to the missiles. Edit: forgot to say this, I only run min fuel on this aircraft and always have, and I have never run out of fuel or had to RTB just for fuel and not ammo. It works far better at all things that way.
A real shame that when you combine two really interesting planes together like the 229 and OV-10 that you get a plane as stale as the Sea Vixen. Even the Javelin is more compelling than this thing...
Hey Defyn, wanted to ask you since you mentioned it in the video, what do you think would be a fair BR for this thing in the current uber-compressed matchmaker? I usually go for comparisons between similar vehicles in other nations, but the Sea Vixen is a little too unique for me to do this
With the F86-F2 being my main go to at the moment, this plane is like a love hate to an extent. It’s really easy to counter and kill but it’s a pain, and to an extent, a priority to kill when it’s being flown by someone who lays and waits and knows what they’re doing

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A TEAMMATE IS NEAR THAT COULD HELP YOU IN GETTING AN ENEMY OFF YOUR SIX? a) Teammate is very close and higher with speed advantage, and you are between him and enemy - Turn towards him to make sure your teammate that wants to help you either needs to do crazy maneuvers, will bleed a ton of energy, and is likely not able to pull enough lead to get the enemy on your six, while attempting to get a milisecond high skill required deflection shot at the enemy. b) Teammate is far away, trying to reach you but needs to speed up, and or climb while the enemy is between you and him - Turn away from him because you are chicken to attempt an evasive turn to close the distance as fast as possible between you and teammate, or combine it with a) once you are close enough to your teammate with the results from a). c) Turn in such a way that the enemy might not see your teammate, while at the same time trying to close the distance to him, with enough hindsight to position the enemy between you and him that the teammate is able to land some easy shots. The answer for 90% of players is of course a) or b). c) requires too much thinking for the average WT player.
what do u think could be done about tickets running out and ending a match in air rb? i think that air rb is in a really awkward spot where gaijin doesnt know if they want it to be more like a TDM mode or an objective based mode, so they gave it the worst of both worlds
With it's change from 16 to 18G load limit, larger range, immense boresight, and the changes to launch load factor limits (practically infinite for it, as opposed to the tangible limit for the 9J), do you think that the AIM-9G is now more competitive than the AIM-9J? Or maybe that it is held back by its platforms, and would elsewise be superior?

I own the Sea Vixen, by far one of my favourite jets. Right upon purchasing it I somehow achieved a 10:1 K/D ratio in it because nothing at that tier can catch you :D

This and the g91 were the bane of my existence grinding the f86-25 sabre. Without the boosters that thing becomes a brick at high speed so you need to go a bit slower. However, the second you do stuff like this will annihilate you. Until I got the boosters my only contribution to the early game was dodging a couple of missiles and maybe killing someone who decided that stall fighting in the middle of a fur ball was a good idea.
I have eaten too many red tops in my 262, after some time ive realized much things like sabres can dodge red tops, sea vixen seems like a really fun plane tho
i think mig17as is still the most dangerous opponent - outstalling is a thing but only as long as their is nor g91r4/ mig17as sending a missile up to your position. i absolutely agree on your statements, this thing is a good braidnead auto-sl grinder. i made over 12 mil in this thing and finally could expert alle these planes and could invest a bit into ground

8.3 is the best br for the sea vixen. It gets uptiered constantly, usually to 9.3 and the lack of a gun makes it very easy to counter. Throw in flares into the mix and the vixen becomes absolutely useless. The speed is very good, I admit, but there is always going to be a fastest and slowest plane at any br. Should we just limit planes to the same top speed? /s We don't need br change, we need br decompression. +/- 1 BR is too big of a gap in capabilities, especially in jets.
I started J2 when this thing dropped first 8.3 jet I've played and that thing and the Italian boy simple just left a bad taste for me. 24 games 19 losses the only time we had those wins is when that thing was on our team
While as you say br compression is the general problem I do not see it as much as a problem where Sea Vixen is concerned since it's 'entire' arsenal is either dodged or avoided somewhat easily. However Sea Vixen and Javelin should be at the same br. Either 8.3 in favour of Javelin or 8.7 to take some pressure off of some 7.3 jets. At 8.7 I do not see many chances for Sea Vixen in a uptier where it would nearly be as lovely a target as Vautour.
Wow so much skill , if the F-11F-1 wasn’t so expensive, it would be an excellent counter against sea vixen, hell if the PFM got K-13ms , would be balanced . But currently 8.7 -9.7 air battles is simply broken. Facing F-8 crusaders isn’t fun 😭
The sea vixen is extremely good in air SB, probably too good with Missiles, RWR and Friend/Foe radar. However I agree its a pretty boring plane to play in RB, id much rather play the FGA.9
I find it very aggravating when I try to save a low altitude teammate and they keep turning in such a way that sets me up for head-ons. That or a friendly bomber will ask for cover while flying +5km away from the team.
the reason people do that is because people assume you have cannons, it's a support plane, what's more effective is missile baiting, max out pilot stamina watch your rear view go low alt where you push 600+ knots and when you see them pop a missle off at you pull a 10g 90 degree turn, loads of them waste their missiles trying to take you out ultimately helping the team, also at the start of the round climb to about 16k alt it's about right for maxing out speed on the dive and getting behind most of the field then you only have to worry about the SU's, Yak 38 and Mig 19 on the uptier.
Mate, the red top will lol you even if you go 900 IAS, since... Well, they have 15G overload, you can't outturn them 90% of the time This is what the F11 dreams to be

if you cant dodge a redtop, good luck in higher tiers, unless youre in a low energy state, if you see the missile, its easy to dodge, i dodge 80% or more of all missiles fired at me, an without flares.
To be honest they're easy to evade and ignore but there extremely annoying when trying to kill them. I guess they could be a higher BR but I think they're more of a nuisance than a "OP".
I disagree that this shouldn't be at the BR it's at, it's one of the easiest planes to counter, but you need to pay attention. That is literally all it takes to counter this thing I fly this and when I get countered, it's by someone who doesn't play like a complete donkey.
the red top is one of the worst missiles I have ever seen (when the match is an uptier). yeah, they are still able to work at 8.7 because everyone is slow but when it comes to an uptier match like 9.7 or even worse, an uptier match with lightning at 10.3 they are USELESS. I mean that this asshole is fking 160 kilos! While sonic booms echo all around the map, these red tops can't keep up with it. The acceleration rate of red tops is just not enough to catch up with anything. You have to be faster than the enemy at least 300-400km/h while you shoot the enemy at around 2km range if you are both not at 3km+ altitude. And even if you do so, the slightest turning of the enemy can easily dodge it. I don't even mention that at least half of the planes at that br have countermeasures. And even in the best case scenario(the enemy does not even look at the screen, you have a slightly higher speed, and range of 2km) you can't make sure that the missile can catch up with it or not. I tested it several times in test flights. According to my radar, I was getting close to the target with around 50m/s speed at the 1.5km range while on a straight flight. And I sent the missile, It got close to the target by 20 meters. And just after that, the missile's and the mig's speeds were equaled and it started to dance around the engine. After around 5 seconds after the shooting, the missile went in a completely different direction. In short, this missile's main problem is the drag problem. you have to be close to the enemy by at least less than 2km to be able to shoot them at supersonic speeds. The optimum is 1km. Sometimes I don't even try to use missiles while I play lightning. Btw this video doesn't prove anything. Killing a stalled enemy is probably the easiest thing for any missile.
Sea Vixens lmfao, throttle down to 0, press I to cut the ignition and they can't do diddly. Works especially well when flying then I'll 28. Even for TU-4s s and b29s same logic applies glide to the safety of the base easiest counter for this plane as long as you have altitude to reach the safety of teammates. Even for the stalling Mig 17, if he just cut the engine no lock
I hate it so much. I never regretted a vehicle this much. Its shit. The missiles are shit and no cannons is like missing 2 kills per game that are free. fml

As a MiG 1v1 aficionado I think vertical targeting compensate a lot for the drop off the shells have due to low velocity

Defyn doesn't need to bait enemies for teammates, he will sure save your ass but he's good enough to reverse his attacker.

IMO the strongest point of the Sea Whore is those two Rolls Royce Avon engines. Very reliant source to keep your energy above, miggy but bricky

Radar does help the redtop tracking making it abit better from my experience with the sea vixen and lightning.

the reason people do that is because people assume you have cannons, it's a support plane, what's more effective is missile baiting, max out pilot stamina watch your rear view go low alt where you push 600+ knots and when you see them pop a missle off at you pull a 10g 90 degree turn, loads of them waste their missiles trying to take you out ultimately helping the team, also at the start of the round climb to about 16k alt it's about right for maxing out speed on the dive and getting behind most of the field then you only have to worry about the SU's, Yak 38 and Mig 19 on the uptier.

I don't think I've ever gotten killed by this thing so I thought it was kinda shit. I mean if you just never show your engine to it, it can't do anything and with no guns you can do a lot of dumb shit that usually would get you killed like head ons.

if you cant dodge a redtop, good luck in higher tiers, unless youre in a low energy state, if you see the missile, its easy to dodge, i dodge 80% or more of all missiles fired at me, an without flares.

I disagree that this shouldn't be at the BR it's at, it's one of the easiest planes to counter, but you need to pay attention. That is literally all it takes to counter this thing
I fly this and when I get countered, it's by someone who doesn't play like a complete donkey.

it is very difficult to aim with it
the red top is one of the worst missiles I have ever seen (when the match is an uptier). yeah, they are still able to work at 8.7 because everyone is slow but when it comes to an uptier match like 9.7 or even worse, an uptier match with lightning at 10.3 they are USELESS. I mean that this asshole is fking 160 kilos! While sonic booms echo all around the map, these red tops can't keep up with it. The acceleration rate of red tops is just not enough to catch up with anything. You have to be faster than the enemy at least 300-400km/h while you shoot the enemy at around 2km range if you are both not at 3km+ altitude. And even if you do so, the slightest turning of the enemy can easily dodge it. I don't even mention that at least half of the planes at that br have countermeasures. And even in the best case scenario(the enemy does not even look at the screen, you have a slightly higher speed, and range of 2km) you can't make sure that the missile can catch up with it or not. I tested it several times in test flights. According to my radar, I was getting close to the target with around 50m/s speed at the 1.5km range while on a straight flight. And I sent the missile, It got close to the target by 20 meters. And just after that, the missile's and the mig's speeds were equaled and it started to dance around the engine. After around 5 seconds after the shooting, the missile went in a completely different direction. In short, this missile's main problem is the drag problem. you have to be close to the enemy by at least less than 2km to be able to shoot them at supersonic speeds. The optimum is 1km. Sometimes I don't even try to use missiles while I play lightning. Btw this video doesn't prove anything. Killing a stalled enemy is probably the easiest thing for any missile.

Even for TU-4s s and b29s same logic applies glide to the safety of the base easiest counter for this plane as long as you have altitude to reach the safety of teammates. Even for the stalling Mig 17, if he just cut the engine no lock
