Totally! Also why would they need fitness if cheerleading has no impact on their strength? I feel like they should have made a cheerleading skill and had dance (GT compatible) + fitness + cheerleading as requirement to level up
Seriously! I remember seeing the cheer squad at my school do some INSANELY physical-looking things. Also I'm reminded of an early episode of "Kim Possible"--the second Drakken finds out that Kim is (gasp) A CHEERLEADER, his reaction is basically "Dangit, why couldn't she have been a member of the _chess_ club?" As in, a cheerleader is going to be harder to PHYSICALLY DEFEAT. And based off the real-life ones I've seen...yep, I wouldn't mess with 'em unless I absolutely had to. Kim Possible writers knew what was up, at least.
The testing on this was fantastic and the results were really wild. I guess they forgot about dancing/cheerleading/horse ridding being sports, either that or it is a bug. Kinda hard to tell anymore lol. Thank you so much for all the work you did on this as I can only imagine it took way too long to go through everything.
I’ve been saying this for a while now but I think the fitness skill needs an overhaul. It should only be weightlifting, running, biking and stretching that get the sim to level 10 by itself. Also like gourmet cooking, the sports skills should be unlocked when the sims fitness skill is high enough. So the sim will gain general fitness on any object for levels 1-3 and then unlock different skills at which point they would gain sport specific skills. This means a basketball player wouldn’t automatically be amazing at cheer and rock climbing but if they train fitness up, they will be better at everything (boosted skill gain) because strength and endurance are key to any discipline. The sims could then have a bunch of 5 or 10 level skills that they can train as a discipline and read skill books on. It’s much more realistic and more challenging which is really fun.
Thank you so much for your research! I remember back in the sims 1 and 2 days you could buy game guides from Maxis with this kind of info but nowadays they basically make the game mechanics one giant mystery. I’m so glad to have your channel! Also, the system is so broken for cheerleading and biking doing nothing for muscle gain or weight loss.
I found a Sims 4 Game Guide book from a used book store! Since it was released at base game it's incredibly outdated but nevertheless very interesting to look through. Ever since I bought it I've done that maybe once, but it's cool to have on my shelf :)
Results are quite disappointing that several exercises don't work at all. Developers must have forgotten to add weight and muscle features while adding new activities.
I’m glad some don’t affect weight as you can’t lock your sims weight/appearance. With the amount of time I spend in CAS, I don’t want some of my sims weight or muscle to change as they might be a particular type of sim. Sometimes that can break immersion.

Thank you Petey! This will definitely help my sims on their fitness journey. There's CC from one of my favorite creators (Somik & Severinka) that has healthy food for your sims that's calorie negative, so your sims actually lose weight from eating them. They can order on the phone and buy individual meals or snacks or can do box sets (comes with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a smoothie 😁). It really helps my mommy sims bounce back after babies or helps everyone get it together after the holidays 😊
Thank you very much for this video! I really wanted to see the yoga mat in comparison to other things. I usually just use mods to keep my sims weights because they gain a lot of weight with food and it's hard to lose it unless I place a huge exercise machine in the house (just don't like visiting community lots much). I already knew about how efficient the yoga mat was and it's my favorite method. You can place it in inventory, works both muscles and fat, and it's perfect for your lazy sims who complain about exercising! I liked to know the effects of the other ones so I can inplement a few more in my gameplay!
I did the same, because I like that they keep the body that I made for them but when I updated my game I didn't know how to update the mod so I removed it from the mods folder so that it doesn't affect the game, as a precaution but now I have to find an exercise or activity that makes them lose the body fat that they gain from eating but that doesn't affect their level of muscles, so that I don't have to be opening my sims at Cas from time to time to remove that fat that increases with eating

Really useful and informative video! I think the only thing that could have been added at the end was a conclusion that stated which was the best muscle gain exercise, the best weight loss exercise, and the best all-rounder and then a list of all the ones that do literally nothing just to wrap up.
I'd be kicking myself if I didn't ask this to be thorough, but does Dancing the Roombasim (Jungle Adventure GP) also have zero effects on weight and muscle?
Ooh! I tested a few different types of dances including the cowpoke dance, but I didn't test that specific one from Selvadorada! I can look into it though :)
this is very informative !! I'd always wondered about the effects of different types of exercise in this game but really didn't feel like doing in depth testing. thanks for doing all this and documenting your findings for the rest of us !!
Super informative video, I learned a lot but i was looking for a very specific exercise that sadly looks like the "random exercise" you missed 😅 in the Laundry Day Stuff Pack, sims can manually wash laundry using a washing bin/bucket and I notice my sim's fitness level increases when they do this. I haven't run any experiments with it but I just suspect it increases muscle gain and maybe does nothing or bare minimum for weight loss.
This is all fascinating! I need to buy my sims soccer balls. What about hiking in Outdoor Retreat, powerwalking in Growing Together, and hiking in Snowy Escape?
May I just say that this video has been such a great learning for me, I rewatched it several times and made notes in my spreadsheet haha! These tests must have taken a lot of time and attention to detail and I love how it feels like a scientific experiment!! 🙏 Amazing work!!
I can only imagine how long this video took to make 😂 thank you for your sacrifice Petey! Sometimes I forget how many things we have in TS4, til that we have a zero gravity workout! I should use the rocket ship more often
The bike actually makes sense to me because, in sims 4, it’s a form of transportation. I can imagine them purposely not having the sim lose weight/gain muscle because eventually most of the sims would look slim/strong because of the frequency of riding bikes. Like if I want my sim to be on the heavier side of the spectrum but she rides bike a lot, it would be annoying to keep resetting the body shape I want because she keeps exercising. Great video! I never knew any of this.
It’s just laziness on their end. There’s no reason casual transportation bike riding can’t have a small boost to muscle and/or weight that plateaus easily. Meanwhile bike riding could have actual work out modes that don’t plateau and also give significantly more gains in those areas with noticeable effects.
from research in the real world, even people who use the bike as transportation loose weight (pretty logical if youd ask me). it should make sense to lose weight through biking, even if its just a little bit, because you do actually lose weight in real life. Youd just need to eat a lot of stuff in order to stay that weight.
I absolutely LOVE these deep dive sort of videos, Petey! Thank you so much for this! I wish someone at EA would watch and see that things like this are why Sims 4 lacks depth. If they had actually included proper functionality with these activities (and interaction with the Active trait too), we would have a much deeper and richer gaming experience overall.
I love both of these videos they are fun and informative. Because of you now when I make my sims exercise I use only the methods that get the best results unless they're lazy, that's a hard won effort LOL
Wow that was fantastic, thank you! So now instead of saving up for the expensive treadmill, I can buy my sim a soccer ball pretty quickly! Also takes up less room, lol.
My sim who did rock climbing as a teen got so much muscle I was really surprised. I'm also surprised horse riding did nothing, having done it in the past - it can be physically demanding.
I love this video, but you seem to have missed one form of exercise (or at least, in game you get rapid Fitness gain for it): the slip and slide (yard water slide?). I know it's one of the fastest for increasing fitness skill. I did discover that fitness skill seems not to be gained using the slide, unless you are doing trick slides on it.
I just ran a test recently as I was looking into it for a video on backyard stuff pack because it's free at the moment. Sadly while yes it's amazing for the fitness skill when doing trick slides, it didn't see any change to muscle or weight. Also side note adding soap to it is pretty good for the mischief skill too!
@@PeteyPlaysIt Thanks for testing it for me! I always use this as one of my five skill objects in the Asylum Challenge, as the rest of the "inmates" leave me alone while obsessing over using the water slide. That was why it was on my mind. They can order on the phone and buy individual meals or snacks or can do box sets (comes with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a smoothie 😁). It really helps my mommy sims bounce back after babies or helps everyone get it together after the holidays 😊
I keep wondering about how fitness works in the sims so I’m so happy i stumbled on this video! Great work
Thank you very much for this video!
Ridiculous how juggling a football is better than swimming and cycling for weight loss. Think they need to rework a lot of this tbh
It's too easy for Sims to get fat in this game imo.
fr my female sim went from the middle of the weight to maxing out the weight slider in two weeks game time even though she had the active trait and regularly worked out
@@darcihasselbach4125you have to work out like every other day and go for runs and watch what you eat. i noticed that I'd go on runs in the mornings or s work out, they stayed fit. lol
This was so much fun! I'm glad to see the sequel!
Bro's approach to these tests are so scientific 😂 i dont have the patience. Thanks for this... these videos are definitely helpful
Thank you for taking the time to show how the different exercises pan out in the game ❤️ Very useful 😊
Can’t believe swim and dance had little to no impact but now I know I’ll just need to spam soccer kicking 😂 my mermaid sim is super toned from swimming and running but it makes sense she’s not bulky as the muscle increase is small. Great video
I did see your previous video on this topic. it is very key for my sims. you know I'm taking notes this time as well. your time and hard work are much appreciated.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Really useful and informative video! I think the only thing that could have been added at the end was a conclusion that stated which was the best muscle gain exercise, the best weight loss exercise, and the best all-rounder and then a list of all the ones that do literally nothing just to wrap up.
But I was just googling this the other day… so helpful & great to know I’m not alone in wondering how this works!
Excellent research, Petey! Thank you. Weight has been such a confusing area for me in the game.
Your videos are so helpful, really opens up so much gameplay I would've never thought about myself. Much love and many thanks ❤😊
Thank you so much for the kind words!
this is very informative !! I'd always wondered about the effects of different types of exercise in this game but really didn't feel like doing in depth testing. thanks for doing all this and documenting your findings for the rest of us !!
thank you for doing all these tests!! i’ve always wondered these differences, this will help so much for my next household :’))
Ea needs to fix this. They’ve clearly never done rock climbing outside
This video definitely answered some questions I had but never had time to test. Thank you!
As someone who plays the sims with just one Sim, I am shaking at how much effort was put into one video
....... handwashing your clothes in a tub gives you the fitness skill too...........
I'm sorry I'm sorry 😂😂😂
Love your videos ❤
Ahaha I'll have to test it at some stage now 😂😂😂
I wouldn't blame you at all if you didn't! 🤣
So does cleaning solar panels lol
@@Twigz1227 I didn't know that one!!!! Dang lol
Also sweeping snow 😅
I have so much I could say, but will sum it up- THANK YOU.
I’ve always thought the exercise /weight loss/sports options in the sims 4 were underwhelming but these results just prove how scuffed it is.
Really enjoyed how thorough you were!
I love that you have a control group hahah ❤❤❤ SCIENCE
This is all fascinating! I need to buy my sims soccer balls. What about hiking in Outdoor Retreat, powerwalking in Growing Together, and hiking in Snowy Escape?
May I just say that this video has been such a great learning for me, I rewatched it several times and made notes in my spreadsheet haha! These tests must have taken a lot of time and attention to detail and I love how it feels like a scientific experiment!! 🙏 Amazing work!!
Thank you so much for the kind words Karolina! :) So happy that the video helped!
I can only imagine how long this video took to make 😂 thank you for your sacrifice Petey! Sometimes I forget how many things we have in TS4, til that we have a zero gravity workout! I should use the rocket ship more often
This is a really fun kind of video! I love the experiment vibe :)
Thank you so much Oats! :)
These experiments are always appreciated. Thank you!
you are a research godsend!!!!!! i love the sims community for this kind of thorough info. TY petey!
Great research! Super fascinating! I love when you do deep dives into hidden game mechanics like this ^^
Thank you so much Gren :D
I love videos that show Sims science! Great job!
This is some elite science right here 😊
A sims science study that I didn't know I needed until I saw it. This video is brilliant, thanks!
Awesome video. Thank you for testing all activities so detailed. I guess my sims will play a lot of soccer from now on.
You rock~ your science videos must take so much effort and time, and I appreciate it!
This looks like a job for the modders! The rock climbing discrepancy is confusing. Dance and cheer doing nothing is mind boggling!
Thanks heaps for doing this! It must have taken soooooo long to go through all of these examples! I am quite disappointed at some of the results but unfortunately not surprised.
🚨ATTENTION! for anyone who hasn’t heard: u can get backyard stuff pack for FREE rn on pc and consoles ! don’t miss out (ends april 13th)
I have a masters degree in scientific research and this is pretty impressive 😅
the best the sims video that I ever seen, thank you for your experiment!
this is exactly the results of physicals activity as interpreted by video game programmers I expected
Superb video !
There is also doing laundry by hand and cleaning on an off-grid lot that counts as sport !
Just like some foods in the Sims have no calories seemingly because they just forgot to add them in the code, I guess they forgot to add fitness gain with some of the activities that definitely should have had them!! Great tests!!
Great information, thanks Petey!👍
13:36 As someone whos name is Makaila Lindsay..... This video just snapped me back to attention (I'm listening while editing my first tour of a sims build!)
this is great research! the only one i was left wondering about was mindful walks 🤔
love this tests! i learned a lot from the previous video and now i only make my sims play football, since it also saves money and space
This is so cool you definitely deserve more subscribers!
Thanks. I’ve never seen anyone do this before.
this actually makes me want to use the skills gameplay way more
My Sims seem to get super lean and muscular doing yoga. For this reason, I start wellness Sims of with more fat than muscle, to compensate. Your results are interesting. Maybe you can do horseback riding and the other sports next.
YES!! I've needed this video
Really fascinating to watch! Thank you for more Sims science.
Bowler here, its disappointing that bowling doesnt add muscle. It literally did for us
They took the time to make sure throwing a football had fitness benefits but nothing to cheerleading LMFAO Yeah, okay 😆Justice for cheerleading! This just shows where their priorities were/are for certain things in each pack lmfao. Ty for taking the time to test this out, it's very much appreciated and now I have a list for my sims on what kind of fitness I'd want for them
Petey this is such a great video! You deserve sooo many more subscribers!
Using the wash tub for laundry gains fitness!
