1:23:30 I fell off of a roof as a kid and broke my left shin in two places; and I didn’t conquer my resultant crippling fear of hights until I got my first vr headset a few years ago. Now it doesn’t bother me anymore- I’ve retained a healthy fear of falling, but hights themselves are no big deal, and I can now ignore it rather than freezing up.
Another lifelong Californian checking in. Most of the issues with California come with how wealthy the state is. The US doesn't have much in place to support people who aren't able to make a lot of money, so any area with an abundance of opportunity also has the people who weren't able to keep up. California is the highest GDP state in the US. The winners here do very well, but the losers fall harder than anywhere else. I get it's not for everyone, but the allure of investing in yourself and seeing a better future is strong. California is doing more than most states to try and decrease income inequality, but the US was founded on a sink or swim mentality. It takes some time to change the culture.
The sight I saw that has been burned into my mind were the streets of San Francisco. Opulent wealthy districts with grant buildings, flashy people and high-class stores while simultaneously having garbage strewn about the streets, crippled, unwell and mentally deranged homeless people in abundance and commonplace crime without anyone seeming to notice or care. I've seen opulent wealth and I've seen some real stinkers of towns in my time, but the way California could blend the two of them left me feeling sick.
This is awesome timing Jake, I was just getting towards the end of watching the outerloper merchant challenge. Long Dark also reminds me of home in the snow, it’s strangely comforting despite me hating the cold and snow. Must be nostalgia. Anyway very excited for this!

So many matches!😄 With the same difficulty settting, i have had to drag my frozen and dry ass from forlorn throught the whole of mystery lake and the ravine to not only quonset but even Misanthrope's homestead to find matches. Muskeg flare and a rare sunny moment with mystery lake mag lens made the 5 day's journey and search possible. Could not find a box of matches even in carter dam😅 Love your streams, especialy tld. Thanks!

I don't know if you ever got this answered, but... Babs Bunny and Buster Bunny are not related, and neither one is related to Bugs Bunny, either. The show actually had a recurring gag where Babs and Buster would say their names, and immediately follow up with, "No relation." As for Bugs Bunny, he was their professor at the Acme Looniversity, where the show also made a point to say he was not related to either one, just his "star pupils." :)

These aren't recipes in the game, but could be simulated with individual ingredients: how about coffee-rubbed venison steak(coffee and cooked vension, 900 calories) main course; a nice cat tail, peaches, and acorn salad with granola crumbles (950 calories); a creamy condensed milk and tomato soup with salty crackers (1,650 calories); and for dessert some chocolate and peanut butter energy bar with maple syrup dipping sauce (2500 calories)? 6,000 calories in total. If you're wanting only in-game recipes, assuming you're using the Far Territory DLC, I'd say Breyerhouse Pie, Ranger Stew, Orange (or Grape) Soda, and a delicious Peach Pie for dessert? 4225 calories in total.
Damn, giving up free torches is rough. I like what it does to the loot balance and all, it almost seems like the proper "balanced" way to play, but I don´t know if I have the gumtion for it regardless. Any opinions from those who have tried are most welcome.
Well I doubt many have as this is not a well circulated mod, but it's a liberating change that actually makes fires a far more important resource to think about.

Nope, not in The Long Dark. Spray Paint is just for making marks on the land and on your map. Not completely useless, but not worth the 500g carry weight in my backpack.
I have been trying to find it myself to no avail, so either it has been removed, it doesn't use easy to find key words, or I imagined the thing entirely.
Starvation causes 1% health damage per in-game hour, so it will take over four whole days of starvation to kill you assuming you don't take damage from the cold, thirst, wolf attacks etc. That's quite a long time. Shepard needs a lot of Calories to prevent starvation and on this run in particular there is not a lot of food to spare because I need to keep it for the goal of cooking big meals later on. So to save resources I let Shepard starve a lot through the day and only eat before sleeping. Sleeping restores health if you are not cold, thirsty or hungry. Extended starvation has other effects: Scurvy and reduced stamina, but I don't plan on letting those happen. Once I have greater access to food through meat and fish, I will stop starving and get the Well Fed bonus.
Interloper is the in-game difficulty. At the time of this video, it's the hardest pre-set difficulty the game has to offer (The game has since added a harder mode called "Misery") Outerloper is a community name for a self-imposed challenge of playing the Interloper difficulty, but without going indoors. What counts as "indoors" is up to the player to decide, as there are a lot of gray areas (fishing huts, mines, caves, destroyed buildings...) Ultraloper is a name I came up with for this run to highlight that it is a custom setting that is harder than Interloper: you get more tired, more thirsty, can't sleep as long, can't pull torches from fires, more hostile wildlife and other settings to increase difficulty.
jake did you enjoy frostpunk 2? I know its a different game but the game just lacked urgency to me. It seemed too passive, where as in FP1 one wrong decision makes you pay quickly.
Lifelong Californian here, no offense taken. Its bizarre how terrible this state is getting, being so rich in every way. Our cities are disgusting and should be razed. I think you would like Texas or parts of the Northwest. Best bet is to land somewhere like North Carolina and rent a small motorhome, then trek all across the states as you see fit. Just don't underestimate the size of the US, expect to spend weeks on the road if you wanna do it right.

That's an example, but they want to keep the integrity of their creative vision for the game. I disagree with that idea, but it's not my call to make.
