I suspect I have a hernia even though o haven’t been diagnosed. When I went to my PD, I was sent to a physical therapist after my examination. It’s been three sessions where they have me doing yoga exercises and I’m still not feeling better. The interesting part is that I can run and do my daily activities just fine, although I feel a constant discomfort and slight pain in my abdominal area and need to lay down and rest.

When the pain gets bad i can't stand, nor get relief lying down, but my doctor said well nothing was found!

I had a left side inguinal hernia repaired about three years ago using mesh. I was a little concerned because of horror stories about mesh but the surgeon reassured me that it was mainly in women with reproductive system hernias. Anyhow, I went ahead and recovered very quickly. At first I could feel what I thought was the mesh but not painful. Just strange. After a year I didn't even notice it and the hernia was gone. I can now lift things with confidence but don't try things that are too heavy.

I developed an umbilical hernia after a serious bought of vasculitis (Wegener’s disease) had me violently coughing for hours on end. My belly button (which was always an “innie”) is now a golf ball sized bulge that protrudes out past my stomach. I can push it in but it comes out again and it feels / looks weird. I asked my PCP what to do and he seemed totally indifferent about it, saying “oh lots of people have those and they just live with them”. It’s been going on for years now and I don’t like it, I want it fixed. I have to go through my PCP to get a referral for surgery, I’m hoping I can convince him to write it up and get the insurance co. on board. IMO it’s not elective surgery if your guts are hanging out of your navel!
I’m so sorry to hear that! I hope that you can get a surgery and get rid of it I just can’t believe the thing that your PCP said.. are you allowed to switch PCP?

This is a great video. I am a 69 year old woman in limbo now for 3 years. I have a regular hernia in my left groin, the woman's kind on my right side and one near my navel. The left side one is getting bigger and the pain days and intensity are increasing. I need to get the surgery but am frightened. One doctor will do it without the mesh; just using my muscle but he says it can come apart. Another doctor will use a mesh but I am scared it will meld with my intestines and cause me lifelong pain and infection. When I need to void it really hurts and also when I eat too much, but not when I lift things. Are those mesh's really safe, when there are class action lawsuits out there by many people who are permanently injured by them. Gosh I really don't know what to do. I have a blind husband and autistic son so I am a caretaker and can't afford any long term issues. Any suggestions?
@@vikastompala Haha no I don't know if they can be cured, just controlled. Which is what I am doing. I have to be careful not to eat huge meals, which I love to do, and when the big one hurts, I must stop what I am doing and do some floor exercises that I read about on utube and that most definitely help get it back into place. So I'm living with it and with my aversion to having my skin "broken" as in surgery I will probably do so unless it suddenly gets worse.

@@KristieMAC1About half the time when I "have to go" I will get cramping. I did learn some tricks in the past year. You must slim down. Even one pound extra weight puts a lot of pressure in that area. Be sure to exercise; even walking is good, a few minutes a day. Finally, take fiber after each meal. I alternate between Dr. Schultze's Intestinal formula number one, a teaspoon of ground flaxseed in any liquid, or a teaspoon of psyllium seed in any liquid. Oh yes, also any one of the over the counter fiber blends are really good. So you get lots of variety. I learned that to go with ease you need proper fats every day (olive oil or cod liver oil), enough liquids and proper bulk (fiber). Another good trick is to put 2000mg. of vitamin C with 300 mg. or so mg. of magnesium and a teaspoon of any fiber in a beverage. Drink it down. Hope his helps. It has helped me a lot. And PS: On utube you can find lots of videos with certain massages and exercisesto do when your hernia pops out. Not hard to pop it back in place. So I have decided to live with mine.

Thank you for this video. I have a question I am hoping the Doctor or someone following this channel can answer. I had a CT scan of my abdomen about 2 weeks ago (August 15, 2023) due to severe right flank pain. I was told there was no hernia, no mass, no infection, etc. Basically the doctor told me they did not see anything that would be causing my right flank pain. However, as I was reading through the overall CT scan results a couple of days ago, I saw there was a note in the FINDINGS section under EXTRA-ABDOMINAL SOFT TISSUES that states "Small fat-containing umbilical hernia". The doctor at the ER (where I had the CT scan) never said anything about this hernia, she told me there was no evidence of a hernia at all. Then I had an appointment 3 days ago with a Family doctor that saw the note for the umbilical hernia, but all she said was that this would not be the cause of my flank pain. Nothing was mentioned about getting this repaired at all, never mind waiting any amount of time. I have been having the right flank pain for over 7 weeks now, and no one can tell me why. I have had 2 CT scans (first without, then with contrast), an MRI and multiple doctors examining my right flank and abdomen with palpitations checking for a mass or abnormality with no findings of anything that would cause my pain. This pain is every day, all day as long as I am either standing or sitting. The only time the pain goes away is when I lay on my back. After 10 to 15 minutes on my back, the pain is completely gone. So, my question is does this hernia need to be repaired with surgery as soon as possible?
@@santelder Thank you for replying. Do you have experience with that? Or do you know someone that does? I just had an MRI and an Ultrasound of my abdomen yesterday. I'm at the Keck School of Medicine now (Oct 27th, about 4 months with this pain), and the doctor with Keck that ordered the scans is setting me up with a spine specialist. I'm hoping to see them this coming week. If you have any further information regarding what you think it could be, please send it to me, I'm interested in listening and learning everything I can.

LOL that's not evidence of any bias unless you know that a man went to the same doctor with the same set of symptoms and was treated differently.

Any ideas for progression

My belly button (which was always an “innie”) is now a golf ball sized bulge that protrudes out past my stomach. I can push it in but it comes out again and it feels / looks weird. How much benzodiazepines do you take a day?
This is a great video. I am a 69 year old woman in limbo now for 3 years. I have a regular hernia in my left groin, the woman's kind on my right side and one near my navel. The left side one is getting bigger and the pain days and intensity are increasing. I need to get the surgery but am frightened.

Sounds like it could be spinal pain if it goes away after lying down .
@@santelder Thank you for replying. Do you have experience with that? Or do you know someone that does?
