    My father died of bowel obstruction in 2016. He was originally diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia. In a period of 20 years, he had 4- Mesh replacement's in his abdominal. The Mesh kept ripping open and his hernia's would come through the mesh opening's. A few day's before his death, the surgeon found that the mesh had detached itself from the abdominal wall and had wrapped around his intestine's. The surgeon had to remove over 2-feet of my father's intestine's and removed the tangled mesh. In less than 24 hours, my father died in my arm's. Before agreeing to ANY Mesh Surgery or Replacement Mesh Surgery, I urge you to do your research. There are many manufacturers who produce this Mesh. Choose wisely and ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK before agreeing to ANY SURGERY.

      I’m a 24 yr old female & was told I have a 5cm hiatal hernia & currently don’t know what to do about it. I don’t know if I should get surgery or continue to just take medication for my symptoms. If u don’t mind me asking how big was his hernia & if u have any advice about this whole topic I would greatly appreciate it thanks.

      @@carewsdesigns Did you have a mesh put in? If not, on utube you can find several videos with exercises to do to keep the hernia's in place. That's what I did. I have 3 of them and one of them hurts bad sometimes. I always stop and do some of the exercises. You can slide the hernia back into place. Good morning Doctors! This was very informative. I had to have a Hernia operation here in Phoenix, Az. by the VA. Hospital; I would say in Jan. 2019. I opted for the Mesh, reluctantly. The operation was located on the lower left abdomen just above the growing. So far, so good. I haven't had any real issues at all. I'm at the present 71 years old and so far I feel really well for my age. I'm a Plant Base Vegan in which I feel plays an important part about the way I heeled. I'll be 72 on the 24th of November. And as previously stated I feel pretty good. The Hernia itself started off as a spall golfball size lump. Needless to say it scared the living crap out me that morning I first noticed it. I had to go to work that day. After work I went straight to the Emergency room of the VA. I was told what it was. Because of all the bad press about the mesh, I was reluctant. I spent one night in the hospital and was sent home the next morning. I do think if I was still a flesh eater I would have had a lot more problems with it. May Good Bless you both! By the way, I'm from Cleveland, born and raised. I Graduated in June 1971 from Thomas A. Edison High School on 71 Ave. and Hough. I miss my hometown sometime; and I'm about to move back real soon. As I said, "Great article." May God Bless! Peace!

    I agree with General Surgery Doctors doing a poor job in risks of hernia surgery. I asked mine till I was blue in the face & told no issues with mesh and natural repair would be a lot more risky. Now I'm in constant pain and have foreign body feeling for the last 4 years. From my perspective I wish the doctor would of done natural repair or found someone vs having the Dr do it.

      Three here. And I don't worry too much. Just some days I have to do some exercises on my back to pop them back in when they try to sneak out. The best one is the shoulder stand. You lie on your back and slowly lift your legs, then lower part of your body up in the air, while supporting it with both your hands. Don't have to do it real good, but the posture always takes away the lump and the pain. While up there I do the bicycle, the yoga leg drop and stretching my legs in different ways.

      Very good idea. I found some lying down exercises for hernias on RUclips and when my (3) hernias cause a painful day I do some of them and experience total relief. The best one is when you gently kick up your legs in the air above you while you hold onto your hips. While in that position you do different leg stretches and have them go backwards above your head and behind you. Seems to "cure" the hernias for quite a few days.

      I don't know how a hernia can be prevented? They just happen from wear and tear and doing things. I've had both groins and umbilical hernias and Doctor explained it's like when you see the cords of a tire that come apart and an inner tube pokes through? It's probably the most common surgery among males and in the old days men just wore trusses and supports more often and lived with it.

    Stay away from laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. There are many risks of bumping organs. Perforating intestinal and bladder and the high risk of infections/ staph. Ask questions take notes and do your real research on those assigned to your surgery / back ground checks. You’re the patient. You’re the boss. You know your body. Hernias can be done with local anesthesia and partially sedated. No robots or high tech junk needed that will put you at risk. Knife time on these procedures are under an hour for inguinal and umbilical procedures and don’t require an over night stay. It’s out patient in and out. Please do your own research. I’m telling you from experience with this mess

    I had a Laporscopic Inguinal Hernia repair on my right side with mesh done in 2020. It went great. 3 weeks ago I started getting pain in my left side. The stabbing pains in the groin in the morning and the reliving of the same thing every morning really get intense. For the first time in my 50 years of living, I'm really thinking of killing myself. I definitely got these Hernias at work, but since this is the second Hernia I've had on the job, my employer says I will possibly be fired if I report it as work related. That means I'm left to pay for a surgery myself, and it costs more than 6 months of my pay.

    Since 2001 I have had 14 hernia repairs. The mesh they used would open and the hernias would "pop" through. Also I had a lot of pain with the synthetic mesh so in 2011 I had all the old mesh replaced with mesh made from a pig. BUT after researching this kind of mesh I found out it is only good for about 8 years and then breaks down, so guess what...I have another hernia but what it has done was the pig mesh has stretched out and now I have a very large bulge on my right side. So back in 2019 I was scheduled for surgery but because of the "C" virus I cancelled it. I am so tired of surgeries...and I may need another because of my diverticulitis and they will have to repair this hernia also. SIGH

      Stay away. Don't let them do it. When you have multiple abdominal surgeries you are at much higher risk of later getting a twisted colon. Which is not fun and can be fatal.

    Surely a dr wouldn’t operate if the patient complained of groin discomfort/pain and he attributed this to a hernia when it was a torn muscle, if the dr couldn’t see evidence of a hernia, why would he operate?

    • @annettegenovesi
      @annettegenovesi 2 года назад

      The torn muscle is what starts the process. Eventually, something will poke through it.

    What cause an hernia and who’s prone to get it; and is it hereditary?

    • @annettegenovesi
      @annettegenovesi Год назад +1

      I believe it's a weak muscle that tears, allowing some of the intestines to come through. They say yes, it is usually hereditary. Anyone can get it; even babies do.

    if you eat to keep regular bowel movement will this keep the bulge down ?

    • @doug_velasquez007
      @doug_velasquez007 2 года назад

      I think this certainly helps, a high fiber diet. Probably depends on the type of hernia and also would be more effective if done before than after. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, high fiber logically makes sense that it would help.

    • @annettegenovesi
      @annettegenovesi Год назад

      For me, if I am constipated or have lots of gas I get intense pains (strangely very tolerable for me) and the bulge is there until after I use the bathroom. Then complete relief.
