Thank you very much. Short and to the point. I have a hernia to the left of my belly button. I have no pain while lifting weights. I wear a stretchy band about 20 cm high while exercising. I don’t do anything crazy and have no desire to look like a body builder. I just want to be healthy.

I (26, male) had an ultrasound scan around my groin regarding something else and the doctor noted I might have a risk of developing an inguinal hernia on my left side and told me not to do any kind of stomach curls - and to do plank instead. I've been able to find limited information on how to proceed if you're prone to developing a hernia. With time without straining activity would my situation then better, or do I just need to accept not doing any of the exercises you deem "high risk" indefinitely? Best regards!
If you have no pain, why limit your activity? Severely restricting your activity to guard against the possibility of developing a hernia (which may never develop) seems overly cautious to me. Case in point : I was diagnosed 40 years ago with a small inguinal hernia on my right side and laxity (weakness) on my left side. I do not limit my exercise activity but always concentrate on proper form and body position. Over the decades my left hernia area occasionally bothers me but the right side hardly ever does. When I go through a several day bout of discomfort, I am more careful about activity until the discomfort subsides. So try to understand your body and what works for you. Then adjust your activities based on that.
@@akshayambre6500 I would only avoid those activities that cause you pain. Go slowly and figure out what your body tolerates and what it doesn't. And if you do have some pain, I have found that when I occasionally have hernia related pain that doing a simple pelvic floor exercise helps me. Lie on your back on the floor with your feet flat on the floor (your legs bent). Then using your lower abs muscles, try to "press" or "draw" them down to the floor. It's a pretty subtle movement. You are flexing your pelvic floor down toward the ground.
If you have a hiatus hernia, that's a bit different to what is in this video. I've done a video on this though here which might help you: ruclips.net/video/86QpQu960kU/видео.html. I'm not sure what considerations there would be for swimming. Water exercises such as an aqua class where your body is upright should be fine. It will be if you swim on your back that you may experience some issues. Hope this helps.
@deepayanchandradas8071 Hi, thanks for the question. My current situation is the surgical site seems stable but noticeable burning & discomfort some days especially when I'm doing too many squats as I have a physical job. My surgeon said it was one of the worst tears he'd seen.

Hello I'm 16 years old and have been working out for hypertrophy 1 year. I’d like to ask something. I have been surgically operated due to appendicitis, and my surgeon told me I can workout again after a month since the surgery, but he also told me that there would be a risk of hernia.
