Some people think a warning is the lesser of the two. You can’t fight a warning but you can a ticket.
I had a warning overturned only because the warning wouldn't of been a legal violation

This is exactly why I always go around the weight stations. This places are nothing but a harassment pit for the DOT. They keep this places open at all kinds of hours harassing truck drivers. I barely ever pass by a weight scale.
Half the reason I quit the truck driving industry. That and the level of respect from the general public.
Some states allow bypassing if the scale ramp is full. Very much fightable. If they are waiting for bypassing trucks, they know it's going to back up onto the highway. Just about the money, nothing to do with safety.
I refuse to sit in line on the slow lane creeping into a chicken coupe to get rear ended ! Hurt & then handed a impeeding traffic ticket for getting rear ended !!! DONT GIVE ME A TICKET FOR BEING STOPPED ON A FREEWAY
Had a CMV officer chased me down for the same thing, failure to obey traffic control device.....except, it was a ticket and was able to fight it and beat it ...without a lawyer.....

I did it once in Oklahoma on 75. I just turned around at the next exit and went back, admitting to the officer that I wasn't paying attention and couldn't get over. Wasn't ticketed or warned, just thanked that I came back.
My friend did it in New Mexico and went back and they wrote him a ticket

@@cj2k779 , the weigh station had already sent a trooper after me, but I was already making a left on an overpass to come back through. I saw the trooper headed up 75 as I was crossing over too. He must have assumed that I had kept going.
I wanted to obey the law, so I came back to accept any consequences for my actions. Which is exactly what I told the on duty officer when I went through the scale as I apologized profusely for missing the indicator. I admit to being extremely fortunate that I wasn't even chewed out much less warned.
For safety reasons, he shouldn't have received anything. The reason he got a warning is because they know damn well he would have gotten a ticket and it would have been dismissed by the judge. Now, he could have added that he was going to make a turn around to get weighed. I know in Louisiana if you miss weight station but make a turn around at first opportunity. The officer can’t give you a ticket or warning.
I’m retired from trucking after 26 years OTR. WA State allows drivers to bypass if the scale is full. I tried that in Montana one time and a DOT Officer chased me down. She made me return to the scale then wrote me a ticket. My employer paid it because I explained the scale was full. Waiting in line on the road could cause a wreck and huge lawsuit.
I accidentally ran the weight station on the 55 south in Louisiana. Nothing happened, but boy, that one comes outta nowhere

Yes this happened to me 20 years ago, I was a new driver and driving in a middle lane going relatively fast while the scales were opened and no one would let me in a right lane , so I did the right thing and stop on a shoulder pass the scales took all my paperwork and a drivers license and walk back ,sure enough they saw on the cameras what happened and charged the moron that didn't let me change lanes.
Wait the guy obeying traffic sign is moron? You should have at least a truck length to use pre-pass effectively and having let you jump in front of him will force every truck to pull in.
I blew the Illinois scale today. Reason it was a down pour 🌧️ and bone heads going 25 in a 70 in my honest opinion pulling in trucks in those conditions is vary dangerous.
I have a prepass, but I always see guys blow scales in Illinois. Even when everyone's getting pulled in.

Tell them to write the ticket go to court and ask the judge for the definition of a traffic control device (open and closed signs) are not traffic control device
Went passed a scale Mississippi. Cop chased me down made me go back through and then gave me level 1 inspection in a brand new truck. We got to talking and he didn’t even give me a warning. Learned my lesson.
Mississippi definitely is one of those states.

I’ve blown countless scales. If the ramp is full then they’re going to have to chase me down if they want me. They never have.
There's apps that update constantly if an upcoming weigh station is open, if it's full of trucks or not, and if there are officers at it.
Really good way to avoid these thugs posing as law enforcement.
I inadvertently passed a scale house.... I was waiting for somebody to come after me but they never did.
I accidentally past one in Ny..they arent scale houses... They set up wherever..but it was my first solo trip just left the yard nervous as all hell...cop was right behind me and and was super cool..he understood and laughed about it😂
It is a big deal if they catch you. A cdl can be suspended. I am in court about not going into a weight station on i10 in Anthony New Mexico. So far the court dates keep getting rescheduled at this point.

Not complying to a sign is a misdemeanor they can't suspend your license just for that. Sounds like the state of NM needs to be sued for $$$$$$$$$

I was a compliance manager for years. That's called a CSA violation. CSA stands for Compliance, Safety & Accountability. It's a complicated program started in 2010. That violation goes against both the driver individually and the company. Each violation has a "severity weight rating" and time multiplier. The violation against the company stays on their CSA record for 3 years and stays with the driver for 2 years. Then it falls off the record for each after that time period. The driver not only has an MVR (motor vehicle report) record, but a commercial driver also has a PSP record (Preemployment screening program) that is part of the CSA program. That PSP record is viewable by any future prospective employers and is taken into account when hiring someone. Officers love to pull drivers over and say they are "only giving a warning" when in reality they are issuing you a CSA violation. If your paperwork says "Driver/Vehicle Examination Report" or anything similar on it, then it's a CSA violation.
They can only enforce rules that truckers will comply with. If no one stopped there wouldnt be a damn thing they could do about it
I missed 2 different scales in my driving career. I got used to relying on my trucker GPS warning me ahead of time of the scales. Both instances I missed the scales was because the weigh scales were on the opposite side of the highway, to my left. For some reason my GPS didn't pick up on these particular scales and that is why I missed them. Both times I was empty, so I just got a warning. Clearly I wasn't trying to sneak an overweight load by them. Lesson learned 😅
I did that, Georgia State Police put me out of service for 12 hours and fined the company and me - company paid everything.

Alex!!! I accidentally ran a couple and not accidentally ran a few as well. One time in Louisiana they were backed up and they had all the cops available pulling over trucks that had "bypassed" the scales. When I went by they just didn't have anyone to pull me over, and it was night.

I ran an open scale once. It was a cat & mouse game where they were flipping the scale sign open & close. That was messing truck traffic up as trucks were waiting on several off ramps for the closed sign. Well the unthinkable happened. They were flipping the sign open & closed & they flipped it closed & a bunch of trucks all came flying down an off ramp at once. They flipped the sign to open, & I was already in line & several trucks behind me came flying into the scale at a high speed & couldn't get stopped behind me. One truck veered of to my left & just barely missed me as he flew by & another one did the same on the right side of me. They both smashed into the side of the truck in front of me on the ramp. I still had room to maneuver back onto the freeway in the granny lane, so I took off. Of course they came running after me as they had a chase squad at the end of the scale waiting. I pulled over for him & he came up saying what's up, do you know you just ran that scale back there. I went on to explain that I was in line to go thru the scale, but that there was a wreck that just happened on the entrance ramp in front of me & I seen a break in traffic on the freeway, so I took it. He just looked real funny at me & told me to hang on. He went back & confirmed the accident, came back & told me to get out of here. My lucky day. I could of been squashed by one of those shithead truckdrivers. God works in mysterious ways.
We had one of those temporary scales just pop up... And there was another Truck who saw the sign and was in the left lane about to pass me, but then stuck his butt right behind me, and I just didn't feel safe to pull in there... and laughed as I passed it by.. thinking like where did scale that come from? And just kept going... Was pulled over a few minutes later.. And paid $55 for the same thing.. failure to stop... didn't point count my license... this was in 1999.

Should be a law that if the ramp into the weight station is full, that trucks bypass the scale rather than put themselves and everyone else in a dangerous situation backing up traffic into the roadway.
I had the truck in front of me blow the station and get completely ignored. Made me angry af. This was the scale house on US 75 NB going into Oklahoma from Texas.
Truck always blow that weight station. Get there b4 445am and it's closed..xit #5 hwy 35n..left on 153..rt on hwy 77...scale bypass route...your welcome.
I know some truck stops take easy pass so you don't have to stop if it goes off but that may or may not be the case

Ramp is full, I never stop.
The days of stopping on the freeway with a load of explosives, gasoline, or ammonia etc are long gone.
If the ramp is full public safety demands you bypass the scale.
One burning load of gasoline does help lift the fog around a way station though.

I was blocked by the trucks in the right lane and had no choice to by pass the scale in 1990. That went down as a moving violation just like a speeding ticket at that time.Even having another driver that witnessed I was no enough to change the officers mind on giving a ticket.
Many scale houses are randomly open.... scale houses will shut down if they get too many semis backed up.
If the signs on and it says all truck stop at chicken coop, That means you follow the leader even though you have to get over in the fog lane , I do not know about some of these truck drivers today
This shit is why I run almost exclusively at night. I keep my shit maintained but shes old and not pretty so its a magnet for DOT. Just tired of getting harassed all the time.

I haven't stopped for a scale in YEARS! I used to go to LA every week, busted the Banning scale every time nobody got off their fat backside to come after me.

It’s actually worse to get a warning you cannot fight a warning if they give you a ticket you hire a lawyer, the ticket goes away and you and your company both get no points. Good job on causing your company to have higher insurance rates.

2002 in Colorado i25 I had my cb on weigh station had their cb radio on a nice female officer came on and said hay schinder...I said..oops I'll take next exit and come back she said OK I'll be waiting for you thanks. When I rolled across the scale she said thanks for coming back and gave me the green light and a smile and that was that 🙃
Ain't nobody accidentally running a weigh station, they give you a 2 mile warning for them 😂, sonetimes if you run one they will chase you , make you turn around and go back to it and do a full inspection.
I have greenwise on my truck its like prepass but on issac and I have been pulled 3 times for bypassing after greenwise said bypass and dot doesn't seem to understand that I had the right away to bypass. they tried to ticket me but I force them to check my issac and they have to let me go. after the 3rd time I no longer bypass when greenwise says to just because it normally takes 30 minutes of my time to deal with dot the last one I told the officer that they need to fix their system becuse greenwise says im good and your saying otherwise it's just annoying its always be GA and FL stations

What's the worst that can happen? If you're issued a federal inspection, that will follow you around and can be used to deny you a job. Get put out of service? As an owner operator, insurance companies use that as a reason to deny issuance of a policy leading to paying higher insurance rates. So there can be consequences. Have I ever been chased down? No, but I dont make a habit of blowing by scales. If I were to make a habit of collecting tickets, the carrier I'm leased to would terminate my contract. Also, getting a passing inspection is important to maintaining a high federal safety score. Brokers look at that before allowing their freight onto your truck.

The one going east on I-24 I never stop at unless it's during the day, when I'm heavy I just drop a gear or 2 going down. The reason they have these is because kids don't know how to drive mountain grades. About 10yrs ago I took a load of copper wire out of Arizona. Highway 60 through Apache Falls will teach you how to drive mountain grades

I saw them go after a guy yesterday in Florida who actually rolled through the weigh station. Why? He had his phone in his hand when he passed me and it was still in his hand as the officer was pulling him over. How dumb do you have to be to roll through a weigh station with your phone in your hand???

It's never an accident u run a weigh station. I don't care what ur excuse is those signs and plates in the road every driver knows he has to go in if it open unless he gets the green prepass to go in, and every driver deserves everything he gets if he gets stopped past that weigh station. Everyone has an excuse for everything except taking responsibility for being stupid and thinking he can slide by running it. I've seen many drivers in 34 yrs make past, and many get stopped and deserve what he gets for running it.

Bringing down the company safety score=FMCSA audit if that score hits a certain limit. You sit through an audit and you'll realize what's the worse thing that can happen.
Every state is different, yes it’s possible you can go to jail.
I got $10k ticket years ago and they made me to return to the scale house.

@@TomAnderson_81 Now that I think about it, probably so. I have 15 years of truck driving plus 30 years riding along pops, and we've never passed a scale. The only time I passed a scale 12 years ago, I got eight violations, and they all got dismissed be because I was able to prove the dot officer scammed me, put me out of service for 10 hrs yet he realeased me 2hrs later after paying 500 dollars for an airline to a mechanic that was his buddy.

A warning to the company is a big deal. Looks like it was part of an inspection on that paper as well, unlike a violation, it cannot be fought in court with a lawyer and hurts safety rating of carrier and driver's CDL of course. Insurance isnt smiling about it either.
