Thank you bro, it was very helpful for me especially, as I have one. Love this new entry in my aquarium. I like to bring her to full swing in size, colors, and patterns too.
Really great profile video well done ✔ I also like how you incorporate the written communication on screen for people with hearing difficulties well thought through. At first glance of the thumbnail I thought it was a Salvini ☺
These are the cutest chiclids. The way they swim up to you (once they get to know you) chiclids alone have taught me that, yes. Your fish can recognize you and (probably) will interact with you.
Very cool looking cichlid. I have never seen one of those IRL. Around where I live (metro Detroit, MI) most stores only have a small selection of cichlids. Mostly Jack Dempsey, Convict, Firemouth, Rams and the other common cichlids. I keep a few German Blue Rams in my 55g, cool fish.
I always wondered about this exact cichlid glad you did a video on it👍 Question though could they go with sailfin mollies? I was thinking they would be good tankmates for a central American biotope.
Super nice video bro...keep it going. I have a 75-gallon with a Jack Dempsey, a firemouth, a green terror, a convict, and a salvini. Jack Dempsey the clear heavy-weight champ. Do think it would be ok to add a Nicaraguan cichlid to the tank?
Thanks for watching! Although the Nicaraguan would be a good tank mate options for those guys, it might be a bit too crowded in a 75 gallon. Might have some aggression issues.
Love the colors of this fish fully grown. Do you think they would be okay with Diamond Tetras or would it be a bit risky due to the territorial issues?
I have had mine for 5+ years in a large community American cichlids tank. Male is 30cm+ and female is approximately 20cms. Have spawned a couple of times but fry did not survive. They do hold their own and do by size alone have their own spots in the tank when they want it. Would keep them again if opportunity arose.
Mine is actually pretty aggressive. I think I have a male. It is in with other South American Cichlids. Hates my Silver Dollars and Blood Parrot. Definitely the boss of the tank.
Hey Troy - how long did it take your macaw to calm down a bit? I've just added a female and she's fairly aggressive for a SA Cichlid. Like African Cichlid level maybe - but prehaps she'll chill out when she's claimed a territory. It's day 1 of being in the main tank - so early days!
I ended up with 10 geophagus tapajos and 4 macaw cichlids in my 300 gallon because there my favorite fish out of all your tanks and curious if you think the macaw will grow to fast for the geos there all about a inch and would true parrots and a oscar work well with that group in your opinion if I let the geos grow for a bit
Awesome! Macaw won't outgrow the geos too much. True parrot would definitely work (and Oscar a maybe), if the geos grow out for awhile first and if the tank is large
@CichlidBros thanks for the fast reply I come from salt water and was forced to switch because of new expenses and would be devastated if I didn't stumble upon your guys channel. Some truly amazing tanks the 180 is my personal favorite The size mixture of the geos and oscar really sets it off for me but they all look amazing hope it's not offensive but your the brs of cichlid keeping be all end all answers for any question I have and wish I had the class room tanks I dropped out in grade 10 and am just going back for marine biology now they probably would have at least kept my attention showed me my true interest earlier in life
What are you thinking about Macaw and Oscar together ? I have 120 galon tank and there is 2 firemouth in it and i am thinking add 2 oscar, 2 green terror, some macaw and plecos. Can you commemt please ?
It might be a bit crowded with the others in the tank. Generally Macaws and Oscars will work okay together, but will have the best luck if the tank is spacious
Great information. Interesting enough, in the wild Nic (Macaw cichlid, Hypsohprys nicaraguensis ) don't do well in the presence of their smaller close cousin, Neet (Blue Demon, Hypsohprys nematopus). Lagunero (Wolf cichlid, Parachromis dovii) regulates populations of Convct cichlids (Amatitlania nigrofasciata) and Neet cichlids but also recuits (produces) massive numbers of offspring, .any of which get lost from the parent protected schools. These lost Lagunero offspring gret adopted by pairs of Nic who become the guardians of the fry. Thus ensuring more Laguena will survive to grow to adulthood removing larger numbers reducing numbers of Neets providing more room for Nics.
Did you know she was a female when you got her? The local fish store has some but I can’t tell what is male and what is female, because they are all gray with a black stripe like when you got yours. I’m debating about swapping stock in one of my 40 breeders and getting maybe 3-5 of them to grow out and see-hoping to get a couple females or maybe a pair, but just 1 could grow out in my 55 with the 5 Rainbow cichlids who are only 2” at this point and the full grown female blue acara, and the little polar blue parrot(short body convict). Any idea how to tell the sex when they are young?
I didn't know at the time. Got her when she was about 1-2 inches, and was too small to tell. A few months later I started to see the red along the side and knew it was female
@@CichlidBros thanks for the response, appreciate it. My plan was to put a juvenile salvini, firemouth, jack Dempsey and Nicaraguan together at the same time in a 90 gallon tank with my current fully grown Congo tetras, please tell me if this would be a bad idea haha. If so what mix of the fish above would work best. Thank you
Females are great community cichlids. Mine hangs out with my Rainbows. The males are an absolute liability and are agressive as hell, especially if there is a female nearby.
So I have 2 pr + and last nite after the water change I noticed my biggest[10in] has a mark for lack of a better term on the cheek and is NOT eating.. I think He may have squared off with the other male;; I did not see it so it's a surprise because it's usually a big bluff.. Also I'm wondering if he may have a snail stuck.. I know if he's done eating he's done period... "Sick" MB

No problem, thanks for watching!
So u need to be patient 😉😉😉
I go them and they had the same character of geophagus .plus they are slow growers
@CichlidBros Say are Z Rock Haps also Slow growers? I have a Male/Female? Has thin yellow stripe down head, not alot of colors?
Thank You!

I might add one when I upgrade tank size!
Very interesting🐠

Yeah bud, as long as they're large enough not to get eaten 👍
Nice topic... Love from India 🇮🇳
Thank you!
Excepcional pez el Ciclido Nicaragüenses, muy buen video , felicidades !
realmente lo son. Me pregunto si podrían ir con loros de sangre.
These guys are a typical Cichlid. They’re not overly aggressive, but every now and then you’ll run into a maniac lol
Thank you for the educational information, greetings from Indonesia🙏🙏🙏
Of course, thanks for watching!

Amazing! Which saltwater fish do you recommend for those who are starting out on the subject of saltwater?
Thanks! I’m new to saltwater as well, and recently added a pair of clowns and bangai Cardinals. So far so good
Nice video. Can this fish be placed in a 30 gallon tank?
What's your opinion in keeping them with Discus and Rams at around 83° - 84° ? My pH is a stable but high 8.
Probably too aggressive to go with them long term
I have a 29 gal it worked well then it stop i changed the stuff in the filter but itstop pushing out water what can i do
I have pretty one .he is about 7cm now and he is getting yellow only .so i think he is male right!!!
And can u tell me about his growth rate
He shows you the growth rate in the video from one year to the next year and it had grown to about 5 inches
Nice

It should be fine if the tank is large. Just keep an eye on the Texas over time
Would they be ok with a salvini ?.
Probably, although salvinis can be very aggressive

Where did you get your female from? I’m currently looking for one.
I got this one online from imperial Tropicals
How do you tell the difference between male and female when they are young and have no colour yet?
Might be tough when they are very small, but females will get some red along their sides fairly early on
Mine has no color, grey with black spots
