Threadfin Acara (Acarichthys heckelii) | Care Guide & Species Profile

- Опубликовано: 8 июл 2024
- Today's video is a care guide and species profile on the Threadfin Acara (Acarichthys heckelii). Heckilii are beautiful cichlids with brown, tan, green, and blue colors that really stand out in a tank, and they are a South American cichlid. As with similar Geophagus species, they are "earth eaters", meaning they sift through the sandy bottom of their environment looking for leftover food.
Due to their temperament, coloration, and behavior, they are compatible tank mates with some American cichlids. Tank mate options that will usually work well are Severums, Electric Blue Acaras, Angelfish, Geophagus, and larger barbs or tetras.

Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next week! Животные
Nice work & stunning fish. Just picked up my first group of Geophagus Sveni that I first saw on your channel. Looking forward to growing them out 😎
Thank you! Sveni are stunners, and a little patience will be rewarded when they’re adults!
Love the Heckelii, Troy. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great Video!!! Thanks for the shout out Troy👌🏼
The Albinos have really become one of my favorite fish to keep🤩 It’s awesome to see your favorite fish on your favorite RUclips Channel 💯🔥
Thanks again for letting us use some footage of yours. They’re looking great. Appreciate it!
@@CichlidBros Anytime for the Bros 💯💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Omg yes! One of my favorite fish.
Definitely getting these for my new 125 gallon setup.
Beautiful
Awesome!
About 3 weeks ago I purchased three of these beautiful fish. They're about quarter size in a 75 gallon. Love your videos!!
Awesome. Best of luck with them!
Nice very complete video:) photography is 👏 amazing
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Great info. I finally scored some of these and I'm excited about getting them delivered in about a week.
Awesome, enjoy!
Nice keep good videos coming
Thanks, will do!
awesome video
Thanks!
I love your Albino Hecklii - I’ve yet to see one in Australia but I’m keeep my eye peeled!
Thanks! It’s a nice contrast to the other colors in the tank for sure 👍🏻
Beautiful 💪
Thanks!
Albino Heckelii are my favorite!
They’re awesome!
I love my threadfin, only fish I've bought off Ebay!
And they look amazing when on black sand
Do you think in a 4 foot 120 gal with Apistogramma and pencilfish i could do any of these? Awesome fish
I don't have have any threadfin acaras but god they're gorgeous. The albino version has gold colours on it 🤯🤯🤯
I’d recommend trying them out!
Wow beautiful fish cichlids are pretty cool fish I wouldn't recommend using anything less than 75 Gallons because some cichlids are very much likely to pick on other fish when it comes to agression thanks for sharing 👍👍❤
Thank you, agreed!
Will ADA Colorado sand be fine for a Geophagus tank or any other brand recommended with smaller grain size? I have 13 of them currently and all between 1.5 - 2 inch mark
Hi, just wanted to know if you think these would go ok in a big 300 gallon tank with a group of Oscar's? 5/6 of these and 5/6 Oscar's. Would the Oscar's bully them or not bother with them? Thanks
My albino threadfin just passed away out of nowhere and this video makes me miss him. Guess I'm hunting for a replacement.
Sorry for your loss. Same thing happened with my threadfin I had. I think other fish may have stressed it out.
My A. Heckelli albino (6) had to be moved to an aquarium with less of a "feeding frenzy" at mealtime. It was obvious to me that there sight is somewhat impaired from the albino trait and they had trouble competing for food. Their growth rate doubled when I moved them to their own tank even though it was much smaller than the tank where they had trouble during feeding.
Whats the lifespan of your fish. How long does it grow
@@lokeshgnanasekar my largest are about 7 inches and are 2 years old.
Would these guys be alright with 1 JD and 5 silver dollars?
Always wanted one of these unfortunately my apartment only allows one 20 gallon tank per apartment. I can't even have a quarantine tank 😪
You didn’t mention wave makers in a South American tank ? I tried and although I had small ones it didn’t work, I switched to the Fluval spray bar on my FX6 and it seems they like that more.
I almost always have a wavemaker in my tanks. Angled slightly upward it creates surface agitation to oxygenate the water, prevents waste from building up, and makes filters more efficient
@@CichlidBros yes me too but in my situation, I have them in a 125 and they weren’t happy lol 😂
Hi . Can you a thread fin with redhead topajo in a 120 gallon 48x24x24 ? Thanks good video..
Yep definitely!
Gorgeous fish,What is the smaller orange fish?
Thanks! That may be the apistogramma macmasteri
I’m on my second one and I love it. What kind of fish is that orange spotted colored fish in your tank with the heckelli? It looks like an apistogramma. I believe the fish in my 125 stressed out my 1st heckelli. It didn’t make it. My first one was so beautiful. I think they look like they have lipstick 💄 on lol!
That’s an apistogramma macmasteri. Good luck with your current heckili!
Would they be ok in a 33 long while they’re growing out? I have 2 but don’t want to risk putting them in with blood parrots, tiger barbs, salvini, fire mouth and severum just yet
Yep, but would need an upgrade after 6-9 months probably
@@CichlidBros perfect. By then they’ll either be going into the 75g tank I mentioned above, or a 75g angel or discus tank (haven’t decided yet). Thanks for responding :)
just bought seven of this fish a couple of week ago with one inch size, you have any idea how long would it take to get full size man?
Likely around 2-3 years
What's the bright orange tail fish that pops out at @5:30 ???
Apistogramma macmasteri
Are they a heavy sand sifters like other geophagus cichlids?
Not as much, but they still do some
Whats the other fish in the tank that's red and yellow, with black down the body?
Apistogramma macmasteri
At 1:35 what is the fish to the right above him?? Maybe an albino electric acara? That fish looks amazing!
Apistogramma macmasteri
Thank you i gotta have one! Do you think he would work in a 125 with two electric blue acaras and a tapajo? I also have about 12 tiger barbs.
Hello Brother! I have a tank 200L 3.5*1.5*1.5 tank dimension . I already have 5 only male red head tapajos geophagus. I would like some advice. How many fishes can I keep. Can I keep albino heckelii? Kindly Response brother.
So based on your experience could you do a single/ pair of threadfin with a severum and a pair of blue acara in a 75 gallon aquarium?
Yep, that would be a solid setup
@CichlidBros awesome thanks! You guys do a great job with all your content. Been a huge help!
Glad we could help!
will they be ok with nicaraguensis?
Probably will be fine, although the Nicaraguan is a bit more aggressive
Hi. I have a tank 450 liter. I would like to keep heros severum , geophagus tapajos or sveni and thorichthys ellioti. I would like some advice. How many fishes can i keep? Can i keep these three species together? Is my aquarium big enough? I love your aquarium
Greetings from the Netherlands
Hey there. With a tank that size, you could definitely keep that mix. Geos can do well in small groups. Wouldn’t put too many of the others together
@@CichlidBros Thank you. Can you also suggest how many fish from each species that I mentioned I can put in my tank? ( by the way, I asked the same question under another video you added a few weeks ago but I didn't get an answer, so I asked again 😁)
Greetings Ewa
Ivanacara Adoketa Species Profile next?
Good idea. Would love to keep one soon
Hi, where did you buy the albino one?
I ordered it from Global Fish online
@@CichlidBros thanks so much
What fish is that with the black stripe on its eye and body??
@4:34 on the video
Apistogramma macmasteri
I can't keep them alive. They never eat for me and just kinda wither away. I tried a few times
A few years to reach max ?
Yeah
3:55 ok to keep with a jack dempsey?
Probably would work. Big tank would increase success rate
U looks like Messi😀
Hey, big guy! I'm not trying to be an asshole, but why do we call heckelii a geophagus when it's not it the geophagus genus? Again, im not trying to be disrespectful.
I specifically say that in the video. Because they sift sand. Never called them a Geophagus
@Cichlid Bros I know. I should've been more specific. The fish community always calls these fish geophagus...thanks for the reply. I would love to get my hands on some of these albino heckelii. Any suggestions? Ttyl
