      @@JBxxfreeride5 is a good number. Depending on tank size I say more if it’s a really large tank, I have 5 large ones about 8-9 inches with 2 large deamons, 5 large Severums, a medium sized flag tail and a school of 8 Boeseman’s rainbows in a 120 and the Sveni do great 👍🏼

    I have a pair of Red Humps in my 55. Community tank. They have spawned and I got two babies out of the spawning. Great fish and despite what I’ve heard no aggression toward other community fish in the aquarium. The cool thing I found out about red humps is that they are Mouth Brooders. When they breed they never established a territory as the female holds the eggs. 🎉😊

    It's really neat to see videos from so long ago to see growth progression in fish, esp with slow growing ones. Great video! Another bucket list fish of mine.

    The coloration difference between your fish probably comes down to variations between individuals. based on their size at the time of purchase and the external characteristics (not 100% reliable, only give hints) and collection activities in Brazil, they are likely a captive bred population initially from the Rio Araguaia. wild caught G sveni usually come in at 4-6 inch, and there are more collections in the Rio Araguaia compared to the Rio Parana. the two populations are the same species according to a morphological and genetic study by Benitez et al. in 2018, but apparently the Rio Parana population grows larger and show better colors. Typically it takes 1.5-2 years for eartheaters to reach their full size, while sexual maturity can be reached sooner, depending on the species 9 months to 2 years. You can attempt breeding, for some reasons they are quite popular but still not very easy to find in the US

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  6 месяцев назад +4

      Yep, good information here. To clarify though, I wasn’t saying mine were wild caught - they definitely are CB. Just saying that they were likely descended from geos coming from different areas

      Very interesting information! I have a pair of Sveni that are also not as brightly colored, they look exactly like these Geos in the video, and I thought they were not Sveni but Abalios. they have grown to almost 10" and have started breeding, I love them, they have become the "king and queen" of my aquarium

    Loved the video! The Geo's look amazing. Thinking of starting a tank. Like to get a 180. In Tucson and the water is very hard. I used to be able to buy already mixed salt water when I had a marine tank back in Boston. Are you able to buy fresh water bottles for the tank?

      Thank you! I also have hard water/higher ph, and I’ve never had issues with geos or other South American cichlids. I’d recommend keeping things consistent and not chasing parameters

    I have 2 tapajos in my 75 community tank and they are the biggest problem fish I have. They destroy my plants and are insanely aggressive towards my 2 electric blue acara and my albino hecklii. When I say destroy plants they don’t just sift the roots…they grab leaves and pull it down the the veins completely shredding them. I constantly have plant matter floating in my tank.

      Ok- buddy- Trying to help you and your fish out alright? What I'm saying is if you're willing to complain about your fish' behavior, you may as well attempt to understand their behavior. Why are your fish acting like that? It sounds like they are stressed and struggling to be comfortable. If you research the behavior you've stated you can come to a better understanding. Are they on gravel, are you feeding them the proper diet, is their water biologically sound? If you're unhappy with your fish, these are questions you have to ask yourself in my opinion.

    Do you find with all the sand sifting, that it gets into the FX6 canisters a lot? Planning on doing a group with Sunset Gold sand mixed in with Peace Gravel sand, to try combat the sand getting into the filters too much.
