  • @barbkrienke8400
    @barbkrienke8400 4 года назад +1

    Thanks Jason! You have really opened my eyes on how cool cichlids can be! I always thought they were all big aggressive fish and wasn’t interested in that at all. But you have really helped me learn to appreciate some of the smaller, calmer cichlids in your tanks. My next tank will definitely be a cichlids tank. And I didn’t realize that our naturally hard water is something they would thrive in! Right now I lug 5 gallon RO water bottles from the store every week for water changes.
    The thought of using tap water (treated for chloramine) for a tank, and having that be perfect for cichlids is a game changing idea for me! And now with some options for planted tanks, I’m even more sold!
    Thanks for all of the great education you are doing on these neat fish!

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics

      As long as you don’t care about them breeding you could mix the rock dwellers - the shell dwellers might be tough with them because they tend to push other fish away with fry in their shells. I always use bristlenose plecos in my lake Tanganyika tanks and never had an issue as long as they have rock work to hide in.

      You could keep the Lake Tanganyika fish together, but maybe just chose one Julidochromis to avoid hybridization. With the rest I'm not sure I would try to combine them all. While most of the fish I suggested really aren't very aggressive, sometimes the fact that they are similar in color and size may cause some issues. There's a chance it could work, but if it doesn't you'd probably want a back up plan.

    Most of Tanganyikan cichlids are not suitable for planted tanks due to their water parameter needs. Sorry you are giving misleading info. Especially your featherfin tank is too small for them and you have very wrong decoration for them. They need base area, fine sand and some big rock piles for holding/hiding females. I always keep them as 1m/4-5f with some diher fish like cyprichromis ( if tank height is more than 50cm)

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 года назад

      I've had zero issues keeping plants in tanks perfectly suited for Tanganyikan fish (as you can see by lots of the videos I have done). My feather fins are in a 125 gallon tank (the ones I showed were not mine, but were in a smaller holding tank and in some else's fish room).

    • @MrFoai

      @@PrimeTimeAquatics Prime Time Aquatics Valisneria is ok if it doesn't cover the base, some anubias or java fern like plants are also ok between or on rocks but that's all. I'm also keeping O.nasuta and C.foai in my fish room. Those guys only need sand and rock. Lamprologini type cichlids are more suitable for planted decoration.

      Mine have dug a little bit of sand right around the rock parameters, but no more. Hard to say for sure - depending on where they decide to call home it could be hit or miss with a carpeted tank.
