I love my Toyota Gt86 its so much fun to drive. this is the best car I have ever own in my life I will keep it forever
How is the gt86?
Bro?
???
???
@@vzeltova2329its fun lol
Having to rev it and drive it hard is what makes a car fun
Back in the day it used to be a good thing how you'd have to rev an engine hard to go fast, now people see it as a bad thing.
Because nobody knows how to drive anymore so they want to leave it in one gear because it's all they know how to do.
cause europe is 75% diesel drivers
Yeah definitely - I wonder does Plato understand the whole concept of the 86 series, going back to the AE86. You had to rev that car hard, and so it is with the newer model = happy days.
Stop complaining about the engine, please. It's a very effective engine when you look at the numbers. It makes 200 hp out of 2liters with no turbos and still has great milage and relibility. Sure a bigger 4-5liter v8 or something makes more power, but has worse fuel economy and makes less power per liter compared to this engine.
That's true, once you drive one for a month you realize why it's got a 2 liter at 200 hp engine. The car is heavily designed and that made it that way for a reason. It wasn't a mistake, they were designing a drift car not a muscle car, it had to be affordable and if they put a v8 in it, it would be really heavy and gas guzzler. The market for that car is small, and toyota isn't stupid, so they had to get every detail right. I think it's too fast imo, not that I want it to be slower, I'm a FRS owner and I have zero complaints about the horse power. Even though I was skeptical at first, however my opinion on that changed for the positive once I test drove a manual. I will say that I've test driven the automatic and it's boring. Get the manual if you're shopping for one.
@@AndySo2000 If they ironed out that torque dip it'd be a much more livable car though. Guarantee a majority of owners want a more linear torque band, hence why so many spend the money on unequal length headers, catback exhausts, pod filters, open flash tablet tunes. I think if you don't live in the city it's less noticeable - it's never an issue when I leave the CBD in my 86 but where I spend most of my time, the lack of power is frustrating to say the least.
@@HoofHearted2DAY a tune on a stock frs will fix the torque dip with no mods though
Arthur Erby yeh I’m gunna bite the bullet n do the flash tune in the next few months
@@HoofHearted2DAY i was advised and convinced to change to aftermarket exhaust setup from the header down to the tips. Plus stage 2 tune with the oft.
I have the stuff now, will install them by september after ive used up my new exhaust manifold i changed because the old one failed. I'll come back to this comment then.
the whole point of this car is to encourage your to rev this in the high torque band, thats where the power is. so if you're dissapointed in the low torque during mid revs in 3rd gear... this car isn't for you
the toyota may be down on power but its by far one of the best handling cars i have ever driven
You guys need to promote more. Your channel is actually good and professional there is no reason for having such a low view count per vid.
Fifth gear is actually a TV show
Slow in a straight line, but fast in corners. Depends what you're looking for.
Why cant one have both?
Knut Endre Ringhagen then you have to double your money buying a bmw m2
Love my 86 . I've put full stainless steel exhaust and secondary cat delete and HKS hybrid air filter plus tune and good rubber. Kept it none turbo which means instant go and no lag. 6 sec GPS times 0-60mph. Plenty quick enough . .. for public roads anyway
There's no lag with twin scroll turbo. You're waiting more for your non turbo to hit that torque peak.
@@vectraB97 Yep can't deny that torque dip. It's definitely evident in mine.
@@HoofHearted2DAY my levorg 1.6 has no torque dip between 1800-4800 rpm just max torque. The 0-60mph time between brz, Toyota 86 with cvt and levorg (cvt) is nearly identical. 0-15mph is where the cvt lose against manual transmission because the torque converter protects the transmission. With stage 1 chip tuning 1.6l turbo has 100nm more torque than the 2l and 5hp more..
Yea boyyy got one last week only 55k in the clock still smelling new
Loving it
What year?
@@rossbest2049 2013 mate the previously owner only drove in the weekends
How you liking it bro? I’ve always kinda been scared to get a 2013 considering the valve spring issues
@@WOMPCRASH mate it’s is pretty good! I absolutely love this little car
Very happy
@@thiagoleaomonteiro6437 any mods at all??
I wish reviews of the 86 would have more eurobeat
my new favorite car yt channel, jason plato knows what he's talking he was a successful pro driver unlike chris harris, jeremy, etc etc
I wish this show gets revived.
*rage your dream starts playing*
86-239
I have the 3020 and after having the one here and another FRS They really made the suspension better and has more power than the earlier models. FRS/BRZ/gt86. Get the 2020 or newer for the extra power.
Loving mine and Toyota now people will mod them as I have , fitted cat back exhaust and changed manifold with a remap and that has helped with the torque dip . End of the day it's a good looking fun car to drive
4:46 ->Nice powerslides
Nice drift!
im looking through the comments for the og ha-chi Roku lovers cuz this car is from the father of drift itself but i cant find them anywhere INITIAL D UNITE

while I was watching this video my battery was at 86% :0 coincidence???
Nick hf no
I'm tired of watching these videos on the GT86, the car has a lower bhp because it was fore shadowed after the AE86 which came with a 4AGE engine which didn't produce alot of BHP. The GT86 is light in the same sense that the AE86 was light this is what inspired the GT86 it was so Toyota could use there known fame from the AE86 legend that the anime Initial D made more known
dvm28bp greedy af
dvm28bp what auto co. wouldnt cash in on past success with a particular platform. thats pretty much all of what the us auto industry has to offer and I dont hear anyone complain about their mustangs and their vettes. its familiar but new, all at the same time. like some girl you meet one day that reminds you of her... it just feels right. but i digress, the gt86/brz/frs (whichever your flavor) is a solid return to form, a two door, agile sports coupe that makes erryday driving fun again. sure as shit beats the piss out my old tdi beetle
dvm28bp i forgot that your orig con against the 86 was hp. its not like you cant modify the car to do whatever you want. forced induction yo
I hear you, saying it's slow is just annoying at this point. People who think they know about this car just say that to act like they're in the know. I own a FRS and I love it, I had low expectations going in. The car is designed the way it is for a reason. I love it personally I'm very impressed with it all around. There's a reason why there's literally thousands of videos for it, I still haven't gone through them all. Not many cars can say that. The after market support is pretty intense too even though I'm keeping my stock.
I thought he wasn't going to like it, but then just like every review and anyone who drives it. You start to realize it's a fun car to drive once you hear it scream at you.
spiritual descendent of the AE86 I salute you
Jeremy Clarkson didn't get 'very committed' trying to drift this car and he did
One of my favorite cars.
I LIKE MY 86 IT IS FUN TO DRIVE, AND NICE VIDEO TO BY THE WAY
I turn off the tcs...and have a blast! Need news tires now.
Spend $1k on a UEL Header + ECU Tuner and you completely kill the mid-range power-dip.
kills higher rpm power and fun which is the whole point
The 0-62(100)is not right, i was getting high 6s with stock tires when launching it, now with better tires and uel headers + tune i get 6.3 on average
4:48 that’s what we all came here for.
there's the Genesis coupes with 274 hp, review that!
It's unlikely man as this is a UK based show and they don't sell them here, wish they did though
"Its need more power"
Every reviewer on this car
I just noticed it's got Belgian license plates, lol.
I seriously hate that goddamn torque dip - shit's me to tears. I hate when 'spec sheet' "car guys" in VW GTI's pull up next to me n burn me at the lights, knowing full well I know they're gunna eat me. I also hate the sadistically Japanese-like non adjustable headrest that angles my face to my crotch & the seatbelt that wraps across my neck. But the rest of the car is SOOOOOOO much fun, so I live these foibles. Analogue feeling cars & uncorrupted steering is so much fun.
it has Subaru's engine does it have head gasket issues?
Subaru worked that out back in 2003.
The 2.0 Suburu boxers are normally bulletproof. The 2.5s they use on the current Imprezas can be flaky though.
The Imprezas only use the 2.0. Unless you men the 2.5T in the STI. The N/A 2.5 has been very good in the rest of the line.
Nope, most reliable car in Toyota and Subaru's lineups. It's as bullet proof as they come.
That Belgium license plate tho
"Powersliding In The Toyota GT86 - Fifth Gear" I wish that little sucker had that much power and torque that you could actually powerslide it with fifth gear :P
ummm...... fifth gear is the show's name.
did he just said that it is better than the mx-5?
*say
And well, it is.
anything is better than an mx-5
It's heavier, but has a bit more go to it.
I recall them being pretty much of the same pace.
It just needs straight pipes
flat cylinders engine still doesn't have more torque than an ep3 type r
"It's like the surveyed and got everything Petrol heads want."
*200HP.... Lol*
well at least it has 200bhp w/o turbo
This car seems identical to Subaru BRZ.
Because it is. Nothing changed other than better interioir on the brZ. Toyota and subaru worked together
Some of the suspension and damper settings are different, and well, the bases are different
The badges*
Other way around, the BRZ is what's identical to the 86.
Was built for teens , very popular with P platers here in Australia
been watching a lot of top gear lately and he sounds like hes trying too hard to sound like jeremy clarkson
Poll: GT86 vs E46 330i
I drive an E46 330i sedan, but would opt for a GT86 if I could afford one right now :p
I know it's less powerful, but the e46 is just, well, boring. It feels heavy and unspectacular, even though the straight line performance can be fun sometimes. Go for a M3 if you want to make the choice a bit harder :D (though I personally would still go for a GT86, simply because it's newer and I love the concept)
I test drove a GT86 before, and everything was good except for the rear seats; they don't fit humans - not even children because there is basically no legroom at all. Crazy!
I drive a E46 318i, so I can kind of guesstimate what a 330i would feel like. I think the E46 (whichever trim, even mine) is, overall, a more refined car than the GT86 even though it is about 15 years older than the GT86. Handling-wise, the GT86 feels better and more nimble, but I don't think E46's handle too badly (if you align your wheels in a way that eliminates that horrendous stock understeer).
Switching traction control totally off on the E46 is also much simpler - press and hold for 5 seconds; whereas the GT86 requires a ritualistic "pedal dance".
The only downside to the E46 is that it doesn't come with an LSD, and M3 LSD's require a full rear subframe transplant to work. And ordering an LSD is not cheap. But the GT86 comes fitted with a TorSen LSD!!!
Nick Amarit how about 350z ? have u drove one
rehan ali Nope, but I'd love to have a go!
Nick Amarit You don't need a pedal dance, you just need to hold the traction off button for 5 seconds just like the BMW. IIRC the only thing the pedal dance does is disable ABS which you should never really need or want to do. As far as drifting goes, the 5 second hold is all you need.
Can this guy ever stay in his lane?
I'd be completely happier if the engine itself was strong enough to hold over 350whp safely without internals. At least so I can add big boost if i want and not need a forged block
Jason Potato
turbo needed
This is so out of date it's painful... nice review though and nice car :)

take a used Cayman S or Z4 M , these have joke rear seats and tight space and worth about same as used jet ski after 6yrs therefore you don't get your investment back and car insurance and gas isn't FREE on these cars and can't be much more vs pre-owned German 2 seat. No leather mean your new car smell turns to back sweat odor after 2 summers.
Besides, i never heard anything positive from someone that drives or rides in GT86, same story with Mazda's aside from miata
Um it's called air conditioning
But yea good used used cars r always better value than new cars
Yeah, the Cayman or Z4 are great if you can keep them out of the shop long enough to drive them. The GT86 is the most reliable car in both Subaru and Toyota's lineups, it's a car you can drive the hell out of while getting 30 mpg and pick up some groceries on the way home. You're delusional if you think the cost of ownership is lower with a Cayman or Z4, the maintenance on those is insane, that's why they've depreciated so much in the first place. Meanwhile, the 86 family maintains its value very well because they're somewhat rare and highly desirable for racing and drifting. I don't know if you'll ever see an 86 selling for less than $10k without serious issues like accidents or flooding or something (or insanely high mileage).
gta 😅
Only if it had 40 more hp or 200 kgs less and at around 30000 euros not that cheap to me
Blame communists the greens
