Thanks for the shoutout man! Yeah the GH6 colors are just next level, although the GH5ii gets close! I would say for 80% of people the GH5ii is about 80% of the camera the GH6 is. Love them both!
You were spot on in the video mate. The GH6 has such great straight out of camera colours. I'm really happy I got this camera again though, it's been a lot of fun shooting with it again.
I recently got the Lumix GH6, and it's fantastic! I use cine lenses, so autofocus is not an issue because I only use manual focus. I had the GH5 for a short stint, and it was great, too.
If you know what you're doing with your lighting and especially under controlled conditions, it almost doesn't matter these days what camera you use. There is something special about these "older" cameras. The fact that they don't do everything for you is part of the joy of using them! ;-)
You encouraged me with this video. Thanks! I own the Lumix S5 and the GH6, and both are fantastic! I had the GH5 for a short period, sold it and now a new GH5mkII is coming my way, so I hope to have the best setup with those. I am still looking for the S5II or the X, can't decide yet. Thanks for the channel, I appreciate the way you teach us about MFT, which I believe is still a great option instead of APS-C.
The question is...Who has more cameras and lenses: Emily on Micro Four Nerds or Shane on Geeky Nerdy Techy? That aside 😂 thanks for the comparison and talking us through some of the pros and cons!
haha! I would hate to admit how many are sitting here at the house 😂. Emily's collection is pretty insane though haha. Almost every time I sell something I really like, I end up eventually getting it again - I must be nuts. Thanks for watching! :)
@GeekyNerdyTechy thanks for your answer and I am glad you took it for my light hearted attempt at humor of a sort. Seriously, though, you could have a towards end of 2023 or towards start of 2024 a "My camera history" stretching back say a few years pre-pandemic. That way we get to see your thinking and work in progress combine with evolving interests and needs and skills as reflected in your kit. I mean that does not mean a table full of cameras and lenses and tripods and lights and microphones...but sort of like (making this up) this is what I mostly used 2015-2017 and then because of x y z in 2018-2021 I migrated to a b and c because of d e f.... now this would mean that you longer have some of what you are talking about (you had one or more Olympus/OMD cameras I recall) but you do have some b-roll showing items. So it would be a bit of work but I fot one would find it fascinating even if our use cases are very different (e.g. I don't have multiple S5 for a guitar channel..) This would be a combine gear history and skills development video that, despite the time suck into it could give you some channel rewards. I would really like to see it but I know everyone has time limits. As I wrote in a comment before, it could be very pedagogical (you replied you needed to look that word up!). Anyway regardless if you do that cheers and a happy new year a few weeks early!
I've been waiting for this comparison like crazy and really enjoyed that. Many thanks! It quenched my GAS urge to get that new camera and stick with my trusty gh5m2 that I've been using for 2 years. I've just got a second one as the B cam. The camera does all I need it to do and I can live or work with its limitations.
I recently acquired my third GH5MII. Used to have 2 GH6 but switched down because I work a lot with anamorphics and although the GH6 has a lot of features, GH5MII has a better glare-free sensor. Looking forward for the next gen of the GH series with, hopefully, global shutter. Thank you for your insights on all the LUMIX lineup. Big fan.
I am really late to the party. Older person, not a professional but I was keen on purchasing the GH5ii, but I like to shoot videos in low light and now getting confused with reviews. I like your straight forward approach and would appreciate your feedback. I was told to go with the S5 11 instead. of course the price is higher but I just want good results as I lean more towards the GH5 ii. Thank you in advance. I enjoy your videos.🌻
Running with V Log(-L) should make it much easier to match the two cameras; Panasonic changed the Cinelike profiles from the GH4/5 to the GH5m2. Wouldn't be surprised if there's other profile differences. Would really be nice if Real Time LUT was available on the GH5m2, especially as streaming V Log-L isn't that useful for solo creators.
The GH6 is the best video camera ever. In all aspects. What professional video has ever used AF? For those about to ninja keyboard me. You can find them for under $1,000 used. I got mine for $900. I will use it until it breaks.
Yes I saw that deal too!! Great Video Mate… Just a great Value Packed camera as you said… I love mine :) I’d like to invest in the S5mkii sometime in 2024 for that autofocus and FF look - However I’ve just ordered a new Jazz Bass, so the s5ii is on the back burner lol 😂 🎸
i have one and like the evf, and i find it much better and brighter. my previous gh5 had a bit of a dim EVF unfortunately, made it useless in the bright sun. and its a lovely camera
I enjoy watching your videos as you explain stuff in a way that I understand; Im in no way a camera tech nerd !! Following your videos and advice I have bought the GH5 mk2. Im a traditional wooden boat builder and plan to start a you tube channel covering a complete build. Thanks for the advice. Just hope I can get my head around the camera 🙈🤣
Thanks for this amazing content, new subscriber here from France! I’m actually looking to buy my first MFT camera coming from compact 1’ sensor and it’s very difficult to choose between GX9 (for his compact size), G9 (for his ergonomic and perf) and GH5II (for his video capability)... I’m shooting more photography (landscape, street photos, and a bit wildlife) for the moment but I feel like i also want to make more videography content... Do the G9 and the GH5II have the same stabilization capabilities? I also read that the G9 has some great photography features like HQ, great shutter release button and better grip for example, Do u have any recommandations that might help me to make a decision? Thanks a lot for helping, your recent videos on both G9 II and S5II make me dream about this cameras, maybe they will be mine in a few years!
I have bought the gh5m2 and its quality in cinema4k or 6k is fantastic, you think there is a very big jump in quality in what I have bought and the gh6 or gh7 I don't care about the Af per phase. What you believe in quality is for film
G’day Shano, yet another awesome video 👍🏻 If only there was an adapter for me to use my expensive MF3 lenses on a S5IIX then I’d buy the newer camera in a heartbeat. I own two G7, two GH5 & one GH5II cameras. Cheers from the Westside 🇦🇺
i love your you and your videos! I am using a GH5II since 2021 and i also think it is a great camera! iirc RAW output over HDMI was announced by firmware update but it never came. Do you know why?
Thanks for the kind words. I don't remember the RAW output announcement, except for the Panasonic S5? It might have slipped under the radar for me, but I'll take a look. :)
I thought I would test and compare the GH5II and the S5II in the studio. After a simple colour adjustment, they look pretty cool. There's some more camera and lens reviews, tests, and videos on the way! Thanks for watching! Thanks for the comparisons, Shane. Sad to hear the Panasonic 25mm lens struggles with autofocus on the DFD cameras. Since I plan on getting an S5 IIX, I would be happy to trade my (original) S5 for a GH5 II, except that I would be losing a stop or so in dynamic range.
The S5II and X has more dynamic range than the GH5II which had slightly less than the GH6 as well. I think they are rated at 14+ stops where as the GH5II is more like 11. There's conflicting info on the dynamic range of the GH5II online but it still can give you great image quality.
I really want to get one of those GH5 mk ii's, would be a perfect companion for my Canon M50 (other than lenses not matching) as I feel both make up for eachothers faults in a lightweight and portable duo. Too bad I don't have 1,000 to spare right now 😢 will probably be looking at it come tax return time.
I still use my GH5s and G9 for video (both have their own Ninja V buddy) I now have Fuji X-T3 for photography plus a Fuji X-Pro3 for street and as a second camera for any photography gigs. I’m trying to justify replacing the G9 with a GH5ii (as I don’t use it for photography any more ) as then I would have a matching pair (aesthetically) and, more importantly, the control layout would be the same for both video cameras, which would save ‘thinking time’!
Thanks for the shoutout man! Yeah the GH6 colors are just next level, although the GH5ii gets close! I would say for 80% of people the GH5ii is about 80% of the camera the GH6 is. Love them both!

100%. There's a definite fun factor to getting great results without the latest and greatest gear.
Thanks! The GH5 always was an excellent camera and the II version seems to be even better.
Thanks, Matti! This is a fun little camera. It's been really enjoyable getting my hands on it again - especially for the heavily discounted price.

Wait, I thought if you film with the S5II, the full frame would become a cropped aps-c format. Or does the camera record in full frame?
The S5II only crops in at 4k 50 or 50p that’s it. The rest is full frame.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy 50 or 60 you mean? so i can record 4k/30 in full frame?

Buying a gh5ii soon. August 2024.
i think your human + eye settings are the reason why it wouldn't pick up the lens you were showing.
I had the settings to -3 locked on and -2 speed so it wouldn't move much. I think it was still locking onto my body for some of that shot.
Will you be selling the GH6 now?😅
Nah, it's a great camera. I am going to post a long term video coming up. :)
