PNGtubers are a unique phenomenon within the realm of online content creation, particularly within the gaming and virtual RUclipsr (VTuber) communities. The term "PNGtuber" is derived from "PNG," which stands for Portable Network Graphics, a common file format for images with transparent backgrounds.PNGtubers are content creators who utilize animated or static PNG images of characters, often anime-style avatars or other custom designs, as their on-screen personas. These characters are typically rigged with various facial expressions and animations, allowing the creator to embody them during livestreams, videos, or other forms of content. What distinguishes PNGtubers from traditional VTubers is their use of static or minimally animated images instead of fully animated 3D models. This can make PNGtubing more accessible to creators who may not have the resources or technical expertise required for 3D modeling and rigging.PNGtubers often engage with their audiences through live streams, gameplay videos, tutorials, and other forms of content, building communities around their unique characters and personalities. This format allows creators to maintain a level of anonymity if they prefer while still connecting with their audience in a fun and engaging way.
In this tutorial, I'll guide you through the exciting world of PNGtubing using PNGtuber Plus. This versatile program empowers you to create your own animated or static PNGtuber effortlessly. What's even better? PNGtuber Plus operates on a 'pay as much as you want' model, making it accessible to all creators, whether you're on a budget or looking to support the developer. With PNGtuber Plus, you can import and rig your PNGtuber, enabling them to respond to your mouth movements for a more immersive experience. Explore a range of expressive possibilities, from subtle gestures to lively animations, as your character reacts dynamically to your speech. The program's innovative features also allow for cool passive and highly animated bounce movements, adding depth and personality to your PNGtuber as you speak.
If this tutorial was helpful, leave a ✨⭐ star emoji in the comments to let me know! And please send me your PNGtuber models I would love to see them :)

Thank you for making such a thorough guide!
Extra tip for anybody at the drawing stage: Try to keep it 720x720
Excerpt from the PNGTuber+ creator's (kaiakairos) google doc guide:
"PNGTuber Plus runs at a FIXED resolution scale. Basically, images will be displayed at their base size and will not be scaled. I personally recommend drawing all the assets in a 720x720 sized canvas, as that is the size of the base window when it is opened. In 1.1.4 and beyond, you can do CONTROL + MOUSE SCROLL to scale the entire avatar up or down.
I would still recommend making assets smaller though." (Note this is as of PNGTUBER PLUS 1.4.5)

    Bonus tip for layer naming:
Once you are done and exporting, name the layers starting from the very bottom layer to the top layer:
    01_LayerName, 02_LayerName, 03_LayerName, etc
This will make it easier at the importing part 4:02 and you can just import 01, 02, 03 etc and it should not require any re-ordering.
Also this is extra and not necessary but helps me with my organization:
For eyes open and eyes closed I add an A and B next to the number in the front like
    07A_EyesOpen, 07B_EyesClosed
    Same with the mouth
    08A_MouthClosed, 08B_MouthOpen
If you have more options like sad eyes, half closed, etc feel free to add more letters like:
    07C_EyesSad, 07D_EyesSquint, 07E_EyesHappy
Hope these little layer naming tips help someone ^^

Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've really wanted to try PNGtubing but wanted to do a bit more than just a drawing of my sona with her mouth and eyes open and closed. This was very easy to understand and doesn't overcomplicate anything for someone who has no knowledge of rigging. I really appreciate it and I'll be trying this out soon!

I don't have any Apple devices so I use Affinity Designer on desktop and its "Export Persona" allows me to batch export all the layers I want, and with a little bit of manual scaling, make them all artboard-size so they all "fit" the model without size issues.

Heyy, I have a model that I've been working on for the better part of about...half a year, now? I'd love to share it, if you'd like. Your video here helped a ton with the latter part of my 'rigging', setting up the costumes and toggles n' stuff.
Not quite sure how it would be best to share it? My main idea was tossing you the model file, really whatever works, if you'd be interested.
