I just became a member because I love what you do. This past year my husband (we were separated) died suddenly and I moved back to my former home. Had to deal with combining two households. He hung onto decades of stuff. I have spent this year decluttering every room, closet, and drawer. Two huge roll off dumpsters. More than a dozen van loads to various donation sites. Two truckloads to recycling. And I’m still peeling away layers of that onion. It’s been physically and emotionally exhausting. Besides taking care of grieving kids and a combined family of pets (my dog thought it was bullshit to bring my cats into the house). I am so amazed at what you do for people and how kind you are regarding their mental health. Cause that’s how I roll son as well.

So I do them as gifts. Any flavor you can think of. My two recent ones were 1) Cherry Cordial and 2) Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.

MLMs are a plague upon this earth. I have an aunt who went full-in on several (Avon, a handbag brand, Pampered Chef, a cleaning product one...) and dragged her 3 daughters into it, too. They went bankrupt and lost their house. Twice.

Agree 100 percent. At this point I am one of the only women I know that has not at some point sold products as part of a MLM company. I know quite a few men who have done so as well. Not one person I know well has been successful enough to quit their regular job and many of them eventually quit the MLM business with a ton of unsold products and lost revenue. It’s a scam and it’s sad.

You could also show her Ms Heart's channel, it's called A Hoarders Heart, Melanie is a "recovering hoarder" (as she says herself) that started her channel maybe around 2018 and she kept decluttering room by room small bunches at a time, so it wasn't too hard on her mental health and she is so kind and explains so well what goes through her mind as a hoarder and as a recovering one... she started her channel ashamed of her house but she kept going and a couple years later even show her face and now we even know her name and she has published a chapter in a book!

What you are describing in this video is exactly what my basement is. You have convinced me that I am a hoarder. I have one room upstairs that I call my craft room that has been the upstairs catch all the last few months. Last September I made a commitment to myself to spend this Winter purging my house. Then in October my father fell and passed away after 17 days. Then my siblings and I were tasked with pulling all of his possessions out of his wife’s house. Now my garage is stacked with boxes and boxes of his stuff because my siblings live farther away and they couldn’t/wouldn’t take it (yet?). I’m alone, work full time and suffer from chronic pain (Ehlers Danlos, migraines, osteoarthritis, and erosive osteoarthritis ) And I don’t have any pain meds (THANK YOU TO OUR STUPID GOVERNMENT AND IGNORANT PEOPLE - who make it impossible for those of us who truly need pain meds) I’m watching you now because you inspire me to keep trying. But just as I was starting to try again, I got a really bad upper respiratory infection- 4 weeks later I’m starting to feel better, and then in a week I’m having surgery to repair a torn tendon in my foot. 😂 I can’t win! But I’m going to keep watching you and keep trying!! Thank you for your compassionate caring for those of us with “issues”. ❤❤❤

Hi! Don’t forget that having cluttered rooms or a basement doesn’t necessarily make you a hoarder. I completely understand your situation! My basement and spare rooms were a mess the last two years after having a baby 🤰 and a very complicated recovery. But In the last 6 months, I’ve cleared almost every area of my house! Making a second bedroom before baby #2 arrives in 3 months. Before I couldn’t even walk in some of the bedrooms 😅. It looked hoarded, but I’m not a hoarder, I can very easily throw things out and donate. I just didn’t have the health and energy to do it. Don’t be too hard on yourself, once you feel better, you got this 💪🏼. Now my house looks pretty minimalist and it’s amazing! I watched a lot of channels like Dawn the minimal mom to motivate me. Your dog 🐶 is adorable btw!

So I just want to put this here.
Your videos have made such a tremendous difference on how I view cleaning that I now use it to combat my depression, negative thoughts and stress. By cleaning I feel like I am gaining a bit of control back in my life. I have Crohns disease and my toddler is autistic. And you have helped so much. And my husband finds is less daunting to help me keep up on the house.
I have filled my trash bin with just crap I purged. I would also say that I have hoarding disorder based on how much old junk I got rid of. I still have a couple shelves to go through...

Hi Jason’s dad! About cardboard boxes, they are GREAT as a weed block. 2 layers of folded-down boxes, covered with 6-8” ofmulch and watered down, will kill everything (unless you leave holes for trees and other wNted plants.) It lasts 2 years before you need to do maintenance again and by then the boxes, wedds, and most of the chips have decomposed into lobrly soil. (We get our chips from ChipDrop, where you ask arborists to give youa llad of chips for free, or for a gas money tip. They save on disposal fees you save on by]uying mulch. Amc iy looks so tidy so fast! Jason might enjoy that at his house, too. Cheers from Kate in Pittsburgh!

I love the analogy regarding the shoes story. By giving someone a pair of shoes, only if it’s to help them out for the next 20 miles, then you have helped them. I think that that really explains how when you just help a random person in life. You do what you can to help them at that moment in time because they need help and you want to help them. Then you both move on from that moment, and you may or may not ever see that person again. This is just basic compassion and love for other people.

    • @tiryaclearsong421
      @tiryaclearsong421 16 дней назад +1

There's a really good saying to never let perfect be the enemy of good. By giving someone shoes for the next 20 miles, you aren't perfectly solving their needs, but you are still helping a small amount. Especially with charity and legislation, people love to point out how the solutions aren't perfect, but sometimes they do that when the solution was doing some good. I think charity and legislation should be criticized, but I do think we can be critical while still making incremental and imperfect progress.

Not a hoarder, but I did do a whole house declutter a couple of years ago. All that to say that I can totally vouch for the truth of not buying storage until you get to the end, if you can help it. I ended up throwing or giving away several plastic boxes that I no longer needed.

I love breaking down boxes. So satisfying. What looks like an enormous mountain gets flattened for easier disposal.
I hope this poor traumatised newly single woman tells her family to come and remove their things immediately or to tell her if she can get rid of them. It's not fair to do that to a parent. Move out and leave your stuff behind. Move out, say you want some furniture they want to get rid of and then leave it there.
I'm clearing my parent's house out (mum now lives with us and dad has passed away) and you inspire me every week. I just have the attic (that I can't get into but dad used to store things which were put up there decades ago) and his single garage. Nearly done. Thank you for pushing me onward.

Your channel has greatly helped and further provided insight as to why I have these impulses, and more so why they are so at odds with each other.
Alongside watching your videos, having ongoing trauma therapy, clearing out my home and greatly reducing unnecessary spending with active budgeting, I can now say that I’ve broken the cycle and taken back control. I’ve been at war with myself for over 20 years, but now, I can say to any unwanted and unnecessary items, “THIS is my house and THIS my space, so you random things can go SUCK IT!” 😁

I have cleaned out two trailers in FL, remodeled, donated stuff, sold one. Got the second one cleaned & safe for my elderly sister. Cleaned rooms & closets of my mom’s boyfriend. Next cleaned, sold & donated & painted my house & sold it. Cleaned two of my spouses houses! Next a five generation, 2 story farmhouse with full basement, 3 sheds, wood shop, 2 car garage, pond. My brother died there. Had Five generations, several kids stuff (furniture, trailers, on & on) and now my condo and one two more garages left!! I was getting burned out and just saw this. It gives me hope. Has taken me 8 years. Your video shows I did the decluttering and will cont. thank you soooo much! 🎉 correctly. Survived 3 heart attacks, two totalled cars from crazy drivers in FL, a fall fracturing my hand in five places, unconscious with head injuries twice, and tore bilateral achilles, and major knee surgery for me & my spouse and took care of my ALZ mom x4 years full time! Almost done!
I had intermittent help from amazing friends when I would allow it and their schedules were free. This video goves me hope I can enjoy my house & travel again sooner than later! Thank you! Needed to know about you 🫢😜🙃

We are just cleaning out a house too. Wish the guys could come to Illinois! The thing about paperwork is that you do find titles and deeds and uncashed checks or old photos so that is for homeowner to seriously quickly go thru first and throw out 99 percent of it. These guys could organize what I got left in a day to sell or donate. It's taken a long time to get this far... help ?

Glad she’s mending well. 💕 Been a subscriber for a while now and am always amazed by the level of compassion and wisdom you have for those who struggle with hoarding. Your words no doubt help many who watch and your actions even more so. ♥️ What you said about the brain getting frustrated after cleaning so much and then shifting to anger is so true. As one who has helped other family members clean and organize, I can certainly attest to the natural response to being overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom you’ve gained over the years. This was such a huge project and truly amazing transformation!!! I hope you and Jason got some much needed rest after this one! I can only imagine how grateful the homeowner was! God bless!

Great tidy up guys 🎉. My husband has mild hoarder disorder, its a tricky one to deal with he has several small hoards , tools, coats, shoes, medication, magazines and broken remotes ... I go through the meds regularly when he's not home chuck out the out of date , I do the same when his hoards get to much. He's told me he trusts me not to throw out " important " stuff , so I've got the go ahead to skim a layer away every now and again, but he doesn't want to know the details. The temptation to chuck the lot out is strong but I know if I did that he would end up in a mentally disabled puddle. So we have a harmonious balance .

Wow what a great transformation. I loved the shoe analogy! You and Jason got her way past the 20 mile mark! It's going to be great when she can get the church people to pick up a bunch of stuff and then the upcoming electronics drop to clear out a bunch more space. The tricky part is holding on to items for others, which can turn into a slippery slope and weeks turn into months and months turn into years! How awesome her mom was able to come and help her tackle the kitchen. I'm hoping some of the areas will be easy for her to doze through pretty fast. Once it gets to this level it definitely takes time to widdle it down but she's well on her way it seems like.

As I'm packing up to move, I'm wishing I had friends like you and Jason to help me sort through the 18 years of crap that we've accumulated. I get so overwhelmed between trying to find somewhere to go, figuring out the logistics of how we're going to move four cats (who HATE being in the car) with as little trauma as possible, and getting rid of things we don't need but have sentimental value... the list goes on and on. What you do for these families, with such compassion and no judgment, is incredible. I wish there were more people like you in the world!

I see that you have 1,500+ comments, so I don't really think you need mine. I am both autistic and adhd. My autistcness really can't stand what my adhdness does. And at home, where I can control sensory input, the adhd takes over. I really appreciate the respect you show in explaining how and why these spaces end up so out of control. But also explaining exactly how to tackle this. My autistic self has tried to do massive cleanups and putting things in opaque tubs. So what happens is I am so happy that it looks so clutter free.... Then I forget what I have and re-purchase things. I am learning I need to have clear tubs. I hate that it has to be that way. But I now know that even labeling an opaque tub isn't going to get the job done. I have many storage solutions that are clear and the contents within are organized. But I do have to look in every drawer. I think I need to also label them. I also need to just get rid of stuff, really whether or not I want to keep it. The bottom line is the space and organization will make me much happier than having the things will.
You have said many meaningful things in this video that I need to use to actively coach myself with. I do hope at some point you will create a workbook (download with a cheap cost) for neurodivergent folks that can walk people through the process and help us record progress. There are definitely emotional and psychological reasons why some of this happens, but also some of it just comes from our brain wiring. Most of us want to figure this out but carry so much shame it makes asking for help impossible. I wasn't even looking for help with this when I found your channel. But when I saw "autistic" in the description, I stayed and watched. It was a video about how to organize for someone with adhd. I figured I'd watch from the point of view of someone who is autistic to try to help me, the person who is adhd. I hope if you don't see this, someone else will and they can encourage you
I hope you can find some ways that still support your channel but also don't exhaust your mental and physical self. With the following you have, a even a $.99 downloadable resource for us would be life-changing for you and your family. Thank you for what you are doing. It is making a difference.

However, I have noticed that when you speed up the pace on the video, I could not helped but notice that you work at the”express” rate, but at this speeded up rate Jason appears to be working at a “normal” pace. Maybe you have already noticed it and are covering for him. But, could it be that he is sandbagging and duping you as to how fast he really isn’t working. 😂😂 ( I am just kidding. Great job you're doing. When I watch your videos, it makes me want to go through my house and throw everything away. When I married my second husband and before I would move into his house, we moved literally everything out of his house and if he hadn't used it or didn't need it we got rid of soooo much stuff. We remodeled his house while living at my house and then when I moved into his house and brought my stuff from my house, we did the same thing with my stuff we got rid of anything I didn't need or want. I know so many people that move and say they will get rid of stuff as they are unpacking. It never happens. It should never be moved to the new house. Keep up the awesome work. Napa CA

I had 30 years of paper work. I am down to the last few boxes. With my city, we have a shred day where we can take the paper that needs shredding. It happens about three times a year. I labeled the bags of shreaded papers and have them in one spot in my garage. I am ready when the day gets here.
