      Wasn't the comic version of Ralph and Casey fight apart of the original Comic book. Because wasn't this in the micro comic Raphael. Because I know that it was Leonardo that the foot fought on the Roof of April's apartment and they threw him threw a window.

      The old Turtles Den sometimes when they release a movie and they have a book that comes out based on the movie extra scenes that they could not put into the movie for whatever reason is added into the book that includes dialogue as well so that may be why they may have been a reason why it wasn't shot or add to movie so that might be various reasons if they release an anniversary edition I don't think any of this footage exist because it was added to the comic book version of the movie which I must be impressed I didn't know actually existed so what the other deleted scenes I suppose they could put back in but I do agree with you on that it would be nice to see the scenes that were actually shot at it back and release all three Ninja Turtle movies in a trilogy pack but let's not hold our breath this is the movie industry referring to they haven't had a original idea in how long I don't think I need to tell you but I do agree with you if they do need to do that but will it happen don't hold our breaths dreams are nice but that's all they are thank you again for adding some more insightful things and I didn't know there was an actual book based on the movie I can take a look into getting it good luck great material thank you again😂

    There was also a bunch of cut scenes on the farm.
    - One had the gang doing a sparring match where Leo turned his mask around to fight the others. Donny wears a straw hat in the scene.
    - Lots and lots of April and Casey ship tease, including Casey trying and failing to fix the truck door and April showing Casey her drawings of the Turtles.
    - More scenes of Mikey being angsty, which led into the Turtle Wax scene and told April and Casey that Mikey was back to normal.
    - A training scene where the Turtles played Hot Potato using an apple. This is why Raphael has an apple at the start of the final act when the Foot invade.

      There used to be these paperback mini-books back in the early 1990's--about 5x7 in (I wanna say)--where I feel like I remember a few of those scenes made it in, particularly the sparring scene with Leonardo's mask flipped around. One of the books was basically just the entire barn/hideout sequences and the part with visions of Splinter appearing in the campfire etc etc, compressed down into a children's book.

    I think the Mikey arch on the farm was interesting. He actually had no dialogue the entire time at the farm. He was also seen as pretty hardcore. He was kicking butt in their sparring sessions, seen hitting the punching bag and the rooftop scene when he called for Splinter (but with Raph's voice, which happened often in the 1980s cartoon). Another scene that got me was when Leo brought them out to the fire to meditate on Splinter, when Donny pulled out the marshmallows, Mikey nudged Donny to put them away and get serious.

    It's been established that Michelangelo is a fan of the Rocky movies early in the film. It's very possible that the planned scene was intended to be based on Rocky's training montage in Rocky IV after losing Apollo Creed. The way he stands on top of the barn is very similar to how Rocky stands on the mountain.

Man when I thought they were going to reboot it I was excited and then when the art for them came out, I was like, oh I see they don't give a F. I wish someone of these good studio's would jump in and talk the helm and try to buy them rights back from Nickelodeon. Bcus in my opinion, they messed it up and then and went and hooked up with Bay to do it. Then the backstory was totally bogus..smh. I showed my nephew's the old school one we grew up on and they liked it way better. One of nephew's asked why they look so different, and now they bleeding that stuff into the cartoons. I have ALWAYS noticed that Mikey never got a segment at the house when April was sketching them all. He was my favourite so it stuck out like a sore thumb, and I always liked to think that Mikey was secretly just as pent up as Raph, but he used humour to let the rage escape - something which Raph never mastered. An extended Director's cut Blu-Ray is at least 20 years overdue, and they should not only do it, but also cram in every detail, deleted scene, interview, and set photo that they can manage. I'm sure that if they started a kickstarter then it would get paid for, and then some.

    Dude this is great content! Especially with the content about Michelangelo this just confirmed the scene in the movie with Donatello and Michelangelo were talking while waiting on the pizza. At first I thought he was just being his usual scattered brain self when Donatello asked Mikey about not having Splinter. But in actuality Mikey could not really handle that especially just being a teenager at a time of important development and growing pains, especially of being a “mutant teenager “ I thought that was GENIUS how he totally dodged the question in his party scatter brained personality! Now that you mentioned it was Michelangelo who was training in the barn and how he was screaming Splinter at the barn rooftop this just connects the dots on that scene I mentioned earlier. This was a treasure dude keep up with the great content, also let me know how I can donate to your channel.

    • @JasonRainwater
      @JasonRainwater 5 лет назад +2

      Sovereign Renaissance I was gonna comment about the exact same connection regarding the scene you mentioned, but you pointed it out nicely! 👍🏼 Mikey’s training scenes and the conversation between him and Donnie in the beginning showcased a deeper side to Mikey when you connect the dots. They really missed something with deleting this connection. Still love this film, tho. And it’s nice knowing what should’ve been there. I always imagined Mikey feeling the weight of Splinter’s lost when I watched the brief moment it showed of him punching the bag in the barn when I was a kid anyway. So they should’ve just kept this in. It’s subtly implied, but having April mention it via drawings would’ve made it better.

    • @sovereignrenaissance7487
      @sovereignrenaissance7487 5 лет назад +3

      Jason Rainwater RIGHT! Honestly there was scenes that definitely should have been left in. I always thought there were some things that could have been expanded upon especially for Mikey and that would have been excellent development for him and it would definitely make me look at Michelangelo in a new light. When he did this video of the lost scenes the director really missed a great opportunities that in my opinion would have made this movie even MORE legendary.

    • @JasonRainwater
      @JasonRainwater 5 лет назад +1

      Sovereign Renaissance Yes! They really need to create a 30th anniversary Blu-ray for next year and add in or have extras with all this stuff.
      Mikey, I feel, has a much deeper character than just being a “party dude.” By nature he’s very playful, yet that’s what would make the mentioned scene so meaningful... to see the guy who’s always playful feeling the pain of his father’s loss, it would show how strongly these teen heroes are affected.
      Perhaps they decided it wasn’t necessary to go that deep with Mikey, but like you, I feel it would’ve made the movie even better 🙂

    I've read there is a deleted scene where after he Turtles, April and Casey flee the city, Shredder scars members of the Foot for allowing this. This was cut for issues of violence. Also originally in the scene where Tatsu (I think that's how its spelt) beats the Foot members, the one he seriously injures was supposed to have died. But again the death was considered too violent and the scene was edited with added sounds of groaning to imply the guy was still alive.

      I always assumed it was Raph because of the voice. It would have been a deeper film if they showed Mikey - the party dude, in a deep state of anger and depression. I think a few changes were made to this film when the popularity of the Turtles took off, becasue production started before the cartoon became really popular. I'm guessing they put in a few more kid friendly bits as sometimes the dark tone can clash with the more goofy bits. I suppose they didn't want kids to see the happy Turtle all angry.

    Most, if not all of the deleted scenes were not included for good reason, though I'd love for them to be included as extras in a comprehensive rerelease of the film. Most were not included simply because they just were not up to snuff, ruined the pacing of the film, or kind of took the film out of it's zone. The Shredder fight scene demonstration against him and FOOT ninja when he's first revealed not only looked a bit awkward, and unremarkable, it also would've killed the mystery surrounding SHREDDER and what he could do. Finally seeing just how superior he was as a fighter compared to the Turtles towards the end of the film was the right call.

    I have nothing but the upmost RESPECT for EVERYONE involve in the production of the TMNT movie(s). These films were absolute badass when i was a kid and even today they are heaps of fun. The first two in particular had the perfect lighting and mood & overal tone. And my god, Judith Hoag & Paige Tuco were absolutely sweet as April O'Neil. And Elias Koteas as Casey Jones couldn't have been any better. This man absolutely NAILED the role. The live action Turtles were so well done and you can really feel the enthusiasm of everyone involved. And yes, i'd LOVE to see an extended (possibly even R-Rated) version of the 1990 movie. When the film came out i already saw and loved the animated TV series and loved that nod to the show when April wore that yellow rain-coat at the beginning.

    So it looks like the UK got a lot of stuff the US version didn't, mostly in the fight at April's apartment as I remember bits missing from the US version like Donatello saying ''Uh oh!'' followed by the floorboard creaking slightly longer before the floor caving in. The US got the scene with Michaelangelo and foot having a 'Nunchuck off' which for me is the main missing scene. There is also a couple bits from the farm (Wax on wax off) and in the final battle with the foot eg: A slightly longer shot of the turtles stepping out the sewers before Donnie and Mikey squash the foot with their shells. Also quite a few extra bits up on the roof fight. Michaelangelo vs Shredder. It always bugged me the UK version cut his fight sequence out because of the Nunchaku ban. And finally splinter and Shredder ''Death comes for us all, Oroku Saki....'' Hopefully one day we'll have an ultimate version with more deleted footage and outakes.

    According to IMDb, the deleted scenes with Michelangelo would've shown him in a state of depression following their failure to find out Splinter's location. The scene where Mikey jokes about using Turtle Wax after working out and April and Casey react with relief would've been because of how depressed he'd been getting.

I know Secret of the Ooze took it in a logical direction but the Turtles already looked different and the tone of the movie was much lighter and sillier. I would've loved for the Turtles to have looked the same and had that same NY grit through all 3 films. TMNT 1990 is a classic, damn near masterpiece

  • @SlayerRunefrost
    @SlayerRunefrost 5 лет назад +3

    Yeah I think its because it was a character arc that they explored with Mike that they either didn't have time to go into or that they figured just didn't fit in with anything else he was doing in the movie. I think it would have been cool because of how much more like the comics than the cartoon the movie was. In the comics Mikey DOES have a lot of emotional issues that the whole "party dude" attitude is ment to cover up, like its his defense/coping mechanism. And while the movie focuses on the relationship and dynamic between Leo and Raph(which IS very important and I wish its something that the cartoon had done) in the comics there actually exists a very strong relationship between Raph and Mikey. As the oldest besides Leo(who is the leader and has to take responsiblity for the whole team) Raph feels like it's his responsibility to take up for and watch out for Mikey who is the youngest. This is a constant point of contention between the two because Mikey feels coddled by it and at times feels like Raph is holding him back. Example: Raph volunteering to take on a task that would have otherwise went to Mikey because he felt it was "too dangerous" for him. Or Raph "taking it easy" on Mikey and forcing Leo and Donnie to do the same during training for fear of his younger siblings getting hurt. These things were also a constant source of irritation for Splinter, on the one hand, irritated that his older sons are coddling the younger(he IS trying to train killers) but on the other, knowing his younger son's limitations compared to his brothers.

  • @robintaylorwright8769
    @robintaylorwright8769 3 года назад +3

    Rewatching this movie with my kid, as an overanalytical adult, I totally agree with you about Michelangelo's emotional arc. It's a shame so much was cut, but I think it's exceptionally powerful to have a "party dude" suddenly withdraw and become traumatized by both his father missing and his brother in a coma. You see his avoidance of emotion earlier when Donatello asks about Splinter not being around forever, to which he changes the subject to the pizza delivery being on time.
    Great video!

    The comic adaptation for the film of Casey Jones and Raph's encounter in the alley, was actually in a Microseries of the original Mirage comics called "Raphael: Me, Myself, and I" which was Casey's official first appearance I believe, and the monologue with April sketching, including the cut bit with Michaelangelo training in the barn, was also in the comic (though I can't remember what issue). In fact the comic adaptation of the movie, which you exemplified, was basically word for word for both Raph's interaction with Casey and April's thoughts on the turtles. Only, initially in the comic she was writing in a journal as opposed to sketching.

      @jcbrunz9164 5 лет назад +1

      Yea buddy...we know this. Thanks for being late to the party, and the issue your looking for is #11 from the OG series. That's why this movie was so damn great, it chose to adapt the comics cause the cartoon was just too damn wacky. I mean the comics were too, that's why they had to go with fighting shredder on the rooftop, the ending for tmnt #1, instead of properly adapting the original "Return to New York" arc from the comics. (the 03 cartoon had a great adaption BTW!)
      Okay Hollywood you ready for this? You ready to make billions? Ok, then heed my word. Just do what the cgi movie did and make the next turtles movie a direct sequel to the first film. Somehow find a way to properly adapt "Shredder's" return in "Return to New York", literally my favorite comic arc of all time! The artwork is truly unrivaled! Though I do admit it will be hard to feasibly integrate the Triceriton, Grod was it? Maybe just go balls out and do the turtles in space arc next! Save Return to NY for the next, next one.

      @@jcbrunz9164 I know many do know, but I am just recently getting into them and thought this was cool to learn that they were trying to be more accurate than it already was.
      And yeah, the 03 series did a great job adapting the source, as well the 2012 series added in some missed elements like Leo's spending time in the woods after his defeat, as well as while not placed 100% right (appearing near the end of the series), a more accurate interpretation of where Leo was beaten during Shredder's return in the comic. To answer two things; first the Triceraton's name was, Zog, I believe; and yeah he would be hard to integrate, but to be honest if they use whatever techniques they used for the scaliness of the turtles in Bay Turtles, he could look cool along side some more classic turtle designs. Turtles in space would be cool to see in the classic movie chronology. I have taken a liking to Honeycutt as a character, and would love for him to make an appearance.

      @@hobodefender3476 My bad brotha, keep up the good work. What you mean "more accurate than it already was"?Still haven't watched the 2012 series, but I will someday, heard it's really good. If your just getting into them, the new comic series by IDW is straight godly as of issue 50. IDW's Shredder is a fucking boss! The IDW series makes the buyout so worth it with the crap Laird was putting out in volume 4. Now if they would only drop Bay's dumbass.

      @hobodefender3476 5 лет назад

      @@jcbrunz9164 Really the iteration of preference is up to you. And I owe an apology, the encounter in 2012 is the season 2 finale (I got mixed up). The 2003 did a great job conveying a similar tone to the moment in the comic, while staying atop the roofs while Leo faced the Foot, Hun, and finally Shredder in order to maintain its own continuity and did so without harming the original image (Seriously what happened to that 4Kids!?).
      However, the 2012 series, despite being an amalgamation of the comics, 1987 series, '03, and even the 90s films (with character names referencing Tokka and Rahzar) took Leo through the city in the snow, and ended with Leo's battle with Shredder in a construction pit just like the comic, better matching the general setting; but not on Christmas and the inclusion of the Kraang. Honestly, I adore the 2012 series for all it is, but expect different chronology and character motivations before going in. I promise if you accept they were trying to stand out, then the moments that are familiar to you will make you giddy.
      And I am interested in IDW's run as I watched Batman Vs TMNT, and checked out the comic it was based on (not canon maybe, but still, I loved the turtles' portrayals and writing). I'm going to read the Mirage run first though, just because I like catching the origins of things ya know?

You forgot to mention or if you didn't know another deleted scene in the film was on the farm where the turtles were training and Leonardo twists his bandana to the side so he couldn't see. I think he did this as a training example that the turtles don't have to see the enemy in order to fight them to which he had the turtles try to attack him. More as a focus on your surroundings kind of thing. I also noticed that Donatello is wearing some sort of straw hat in the scene as well. I know that they used a poster of the same image with him and the straw hat. I have a copy of the old comic book that is an adaptation from the film and it has that scene in it. There's also some photos in it of scenes that never made it into the final movie...the one that intrigued me the most was Raphael leaning on a fence wearing a straw hat with a strand of wheat in his mouth. The shot is obviously from the scene on the farm, but that particular shot isn't in the movie.

    This is what I would love to see in the new movie! Look how realistic the turtles look 👀

    I'm a 34 year old man and I still absolutely love this movie. I can break it down scene by scene in my head. So dude, this video was awesome.
    I've always wondered about the Mikey training scene where April is sketching the turtles. Even as a little kid, I'm like what the hell, no love for Mikey??
    I would've absolutely shit myself if I saw the Shredder scene where he kicks everyone's ass sitting down. They did such an incredible job with the end fight scene that I've always wished it was 5 minutes longer with more focus on the turtles against Shredder, rather than Casey and the Foot.
    But so cool man and I love the channel. The 1990 OG will always be a top 5 movie for me

    Judith Hoag (April) says that she doesn't like the movie because the producers cut too much of the "soul" out of the final film, and she talks about one particular "mystical through-line" scene that she says was cut but is very important to understanding part of the movie... so I came here wondering if that scene exists somewhere on RUclips. Still looking, unfortunately.

    The reason this movie is so good is because it has the best dramatic stakes - at its heart, it's about a group of teenagers whose father is kidnapped/taken from them, and have to navigate a strange new world on the surface (and with the aid of humans) in order to find him. Hell, the Turtles don't get reunited with Splinter until the last 5 minutes, so you're essentially cheering for them the entire time to 'get Splinter back'. The Secret of the Ooze... well, they were simply trying to understand where they came from. And they find out. Oh, and now there's a mutated snapping turtle & wolf on the loose. Gotta stop em I guess. Or the silly Feudal Japan one. Dramatic stakes always beat budget and production value.

    I really like these extra scenes, especially the alley scene and the Mike training with sketches scene. Wish they would have made it into the film.

    I find it interesting no one ever considers why some comicbook/game adaptions work and some do not. It is all about how true the movie is to it’s original source. The first Turtles movie worked and is so beloved because it is basically a complete adaption of the first graphic novel. If they were to have changed things it would have messed with the structure and the pace of the movie. Another example? Look at the recent Sonic movie, because they changed the design to fit the original source that movie did very well, despite the story being pretty far from the source material (the sequel should focus only on Sonic/Tails/Robotnik... we don’t need the humans).
    My point is, if Hollywood would stop thinking they know better than the original creators and fans, these movies would do a whole helluva allot better. No more changing the sex, race, name, origin, etc of a character, stick to the era that story came out... for example a new Turtle’s show/movie should take place in the 80’s. The more they stray from the original source, the more these movies will fail (just look at that live action Dragonball movie, it was a shitshow).

    Imagine a crossover movie of batman 1989 and TMNT 1990 I know they did it in comics/cartoons but a movie would have been awesome

    TMNT was my entire early childhood. More specifically the original 1987-1996 series along with the original 3 movies although not so much the third. It would be amazing to get an extended directors cuts with these deleted scenes all in tact.
