The speech Splinter gave to Raphael about his anger issues was so perfectly done. The tone of the scene with the music and seriousness of Splinter was just jaw dropping they don't do scenes like these anymore with any effort. It's all about comedy these days in movies that the serious scenes seemed rushed

And the fact that that scene is done in shot makes it even more impressive. It’s lit so dark yet it makes you believe that this giant rat is giving an emotional speech to his turtle son. It’s perfectly done.

There’s a recurring theme of allowing your rational mind overcome anger throughout the movie. Every time someone reacts angrily in the movie that character gets into trouble.
Raf storms off and gets beaten up by the foot clan.
Leo charges angrily at shredder and is about to die until Splinter shows up and then Shreddwr reacts angrily to him and gets hurled of a building as a result.

THANK GOD this movie exists. The fact that it could have easily not been made terrifies me and we'd never have a nostalgic gem like this. The movie is truly a masterpiece considering what it is based on and we should thank the heavens that all the creators that worked on it just knew exactly how to make this thing right. I mean, I swear to god....the entire film feels perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. It's one of those things that feels like it was just done at the exact perfect time. If it were to be remade, it would never ever be as good as this ever again. And in my honest opinion, I don't even think it is possible to even make a superior turtles movie without henson and barton.

I get your point my dude !
But I would add a few moments and bits here and there. Notably, when April's narrating, there's this moment when we see one turtle on a punching-bag, another screaming at the top of his lung on the roof. I'm pretty sure the whole intended sequence would have been awesome and showed more intimate moments.
But I'm being picky, because this movie is top-notch !

    • @k-dogg9086
      @k-dogg9086 Год назад

@@RomainBenkandil it wasn't a botch. Originally it was Mikey that was isolated and raging, then they changed it bc they thought having Mike going through that would have been too depressing knowing how light hearted and innocent he was. So they cut it short and put Raphael's voice into that shout on the barn roof. They should have kept it original, it would have been better. Another thing was April's apartment where Mikey is cracking jokes. They should have used it instead with deep dialogue to get the characters better known about their past and all. That's about it. The rest was really well done.

It was actually the birth child of Hong Kong studio Golden Harvest, whose head of production, Tom Gray, green lit the movie when no other studio would, envisioning that the movie’s budget would not cost much money because the movie would be just four of their own stuntmen in costume. When they reached the end of their budget for the film, New Line picked up a lot of the cost. Either way it was a great choice for New Line to back this film, and the success of TMNT put them on the mainstream map. www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-untold-785653

    Two things.
A lot of movies had a huge part in the way I lived my life as a kid. Back to the future 1-2. Halloween 1-2. Terminator 1-2(honestly I didn’t even mean to pick a bunch of great movies with great sequels). This movie was an absolutely huge part of my life. God when me and my best friend would go to Chuck E. Cheese’s, we ran, I MEAN RAN instantly to the left and dashed for the tmnt arcade game (when someone was playing it we almost cried). I used to think that this movie was just a silly kids movie that I would no longer enjoy watching. And I went a long time without watching it. But A few years back I was feeling nostalgic when I saw it on Netflix or something similar. Within probably five minutes it all came back to me. And I realized that it was way different then I remembered. This is a tragically under appreciated movie. And I’ve actually seen a lot of positive reviews of this movie on RUclips. To me. When I think of the ninja turtles, I think of this movie and these turtles. They felt so real to me. I loved the cartoon from the 80s as well. And that brings me to my other point and also a bit of a disappointment with this video.
You did an incredible job man. So many of the things you brought up I agreed with so much. Right down to the voice actors voicing these characters perfectly and in a lot of surprising spots most wouldnt think we’re important. But I was shocked you didn’t really touch up more about the incredible third act at the farm house. First there’s the scene with Rafael and Leo in the bathroom. Everything down to the look on rafs face. I have no idea how They we’re able to pin his emotions of embarrassment and love for his brother so well, even with the legend Jim Henson helping. Still to this day it’s a really touching scene.
But then there’s the meditation scene shortly afterwards, in my opinion the best part of the entire movie. Where they find out splinter is still alive. And he tells them how proud of them, his sons, he is. And tells them how important it is to stick together. Afterwards you’re watching four fully costumes people, almost puppets, expressing all these emotions and it doesn’t feel the least bit weird to cry watching that scene. The way each one of them have a little bit different reaction to it, but all of them in tears. It was honestly nothing short of masterful. It held up 30+ years later. Which is just incredible. I really thought you were gonna talk about that scene some and I was excited to hear your opinion on it.

Okay I hate to be that guy but Raphael actually says damn four times. Twice at the beginning. Once when he's chasing Casey. And once again when he's on the rooftop just before he gets jumped by the foot. Also just a bonus, pretty sure it was Donatello that also said damn near the end when him and Michelangelo play rock-paper-scissors to see who would face Shredder next. It could have been Michelangelo but I'm pretty sure it was Donatello. Also also, could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Raphael actually said legit and not bitching. I actually kind of hope I'm wrong on that one. Anyway awesome video, definitely earned a subscription.

38:00 Their internal struggle of not being able to be a part of human society is something I do enjoy seeing, and the recent Mutant Mayhem really dug into that aspect in the most potent way yet for the characters (even Out of the Shadows tackled it pretty decently). It's not a perspective we get to really see the turtles struggle with in most incarnations for them. They just accept their unacceptance for the most part and go through the other heavy topics of that incarnation's story. It's a refreshing angle to see now and then.

I've seen on other RUclips videos on how there was a story arc on Mickey taking Splinters loss the hardest. He also has an extended training scene in the barn where he was shown breaking boards but the final cut is just him hitting the bag. Fantastic Review! I wanted to point out how much I appreciated you noticing and pointing out how "New York felt like its own character" It was just one of the many elements that made this movie work so well and feel genuine. It also was one of the many elements missing from the remakes, even if they were doomed from the start. The Ninja Turtles and New York are just one of those things that are intertwined together. You can't really do TMNT and have no NYC or not develop it.. It's as much a part of the cast as the turtles are.

Me and my cousins went to see the movie and for the next several thousand days we "acted out" the movie in costumes, with our action figures, with our imaginations, with drawings, with anything and everything. For a 9-year-old kid in 1990, Ninja Turtles were a way of life, and that's not an exaggeration. "Turtle mania" is not an understatement. The themes of brotherhood and family and honor became teaching tools that actually helped equip kids of my generation to be better human beings. It sounds absurd that a toy could have that much impact, but that goes to show just how pervasive Turtle mania was.

This movie has elements most movies do not have anymore (most 80s/90s movies like Batman, Robocop, Bloodsport had them) where you introduce the hero, introduce the villain, show a flashback of how the hero started or history between the hero and villain, the journey, the climax. This was great story telling. This movies underlying story is about family. Also the fighting is amazing and connects you to the safety of the turtles (wanting them to be ok but knowing they are not invincible). And the final villain... best final match, amazing.
