I just started playing the game, and as soon as I left the vault I was like: WTF do I do now? I then entered the Elementary School and got headshotted by random npcs.
If you left the vault and thought, "What the hell do I do now?", then you haven't been paying attention at all. Guess what, dumbass? It's a story driven game. Not a mindless shooter.
What’s what happened on my first play through. Follower makers, and ended up in the Museum of Technology fighting 3 super mutants that had rifles, with a Baton and 3 bars of health. Had to restart a few months later(after quitting) and did much better.
@@easytooner55 lol i started today and the almost the same thing hapenned i have 0 life recover iten and saved my game after the museum with like 10 of hp... I need some help
Lol in museum i was left with 30% health broken armor. and out of ammo for all guns except shity rifle and 3 mutants left at the end of quest.had to go back to city take rocket laucker and nuke bomb(dont remember where i get them lol) 10h in game did only 4-5quests lol.dont have enough ammo for uzi, riffle, minigun, sniper, but damn that game is fun and so addictive after playing cod ghosts and world ar war booting shooters for xbox 360 :D Also cant defuse bomb in megaton cuz dont have 25 skill of that shit, and costume men shootes sherif cuz i told him that bad man wants to blow up megaton :D
When i started from scratch, i went directly to Rivet City, and when i had just passed Megaton i saw a group of Outkast getting mauled by a Deathclaw.. So what did i do? Watched them die and looted their gear of course :D
For those with GOTY Editions or have the DLC's, a good recommendation is after leaving the vault, immediately head to Outcast Outpost to do the Operation Anchorage DLC, you'll have a battle with super mutants (let the outcasts kill them), take their shit and whatnot, then go do the quest, after you're done with that DLC, you'll get access to a shit ton of good things, Power armor training and T-51B winterized power armor (which is unbreakable), jingwei's shocksword (very powerful melee weapon), chinese stealth suit, gauss rifle, etc. some good shit, then the outcasts fight with each other and kill hostile ones and take their shit.
You should also wait until about level 8 before heading out. It's starting location is near downtown (which for all the new players is infested with raiders, and the core is filled with super mutants
kanival42 Really? I usually wait a couple more levels to level up my small guns skills, and I barley can walk around downtown without losing a quarter of my health to a mutant master
I also went there at level 2. Funny thing, I didn't come across any mutant and the raiders were pretty weak imo (hard difficulty). There was also some talon mercenaries that helped me fight through the raiders.
Additional tip just after exiting vault 101. Near the dropbox (with the frags) are some standard house mailboxes, one will have a skill book. I enjoyed the video and the tips. I'd call myself quite experienced, but I still learned a few new things, thanks. Loved you voice too. No homo, of course.
There's another way to get into Lucas Simms' house. On the platform with the Water Plant near Craterside Supply, you can use 2 barrels to jump on the roof and access a hatch leading inside the house.
Thanks for this! I know it's old as all hell but I just started playing Fallout 3! I beat New Vegas and 4 but never played 3 because I was like 11 when it came out lol.
Playing the series backwards I started with NV, loving that so much I picked up a cheap copy of Fallout 3 GOTY edition from good old ebay and have to say so far I love it more than NV. After checking out a few Fallout 3 guides here I have to say Linkthe1st is by far the best, easy to follow, more than enough info to get you where you want to be and no useless crap! Good job mate, keep them coming for anything you play, sure you'll have a massive following dude. Thumbs up for being brilliant!
I'll just make a note (Since I didn't hear you mentioning it): That you don't actually lose your weapons when entering the Pitt. After you've fought in "The Hole!, you'll find a footlocker with every single of your items, guns, ammo, caps, everything. Not to correct anything, just to mention it. Btw. I love your guides, I got from 15% trophies to 80% pretty quick, with mainly your guides. Good job man.
Another tip: Before jumping into the river, to swim to Rivet City, talk to Moria Brown and get the quest which requires you to get radiated. By the time you reach Rivet City, your radiation level should be enough to complete the quest. That way you'll skip that quest rather fast. You can then go ahead and get to the optional radiation level - but that's entirely up to you.
Pretty good guide. But for what it's worth, I'd recommend beating Operation: Anchorage if you have the DLC once you've gained a few levels. I live and die by the wearing of the Power Armor you can claim, plus all the other goodies inside the compound. Just a suggestion for anyone watching the video and wondering what to do next.
You can get the house accessories free. To do so, enter Craterside Supply then go to the wall in front of the stairs that lead to the upper floor. If you use the 3rd-person camera rotation exploit you will find there is a locker behind the wall. Inside are the house accessories. Also making explosives one of your tag skills makes it really easy to get the house right at the beginning of the game.
I'm a seasoned fault dweller but thought I would just have a gander at your guide, I have to say I have really enjoyed it. Very clear and concise, and picked up a few tip's I never knew about, thanks!
Some person told me a long time ago that blowing up megaton is a tough decision because the game lacks huge choices like this, and its more cool to blow it up in that case. My opinion has always been don't do it. Who really gives a damn if its a big choice? why does that make a difference if its a shitty choice? blowing it up serves no real purpose other than getting a suite living with a bunch of up tight douche bags who needlessly blew up a town full of mostly cool respectable people for no reason other than its fun....
in my last play through I nuked megaton and I let the ghouls kill everyone in tenpenny tower as well. If you let the ghouls live there you get the ghoul mask which is actually very useful.
Awesome beginner's guide. I just bought the GOTY GameStop edition from GameStop yesterday, and I knew I'd be overwhelmed and needed help in it. This helps out a ton. Thanks so much for making this!
The Fallout 3 Guide veteran returns once again! I can't wait for New Vegas in exactly a month from now. And I know that I'll be checking out your New Vegas guides whenever they come up.
@ce6ej Friend, I was blown away by New Vegas. I was in high school when I wrote that comment and I'm still thinking about the game now. Thank you for the check-in
Excellent guide, I'm a veteran Fallout 3 player and I have been watching your Fallout videos for awhile. They are all great quality, well edited, and very informative.
I loved this game. I just wandered around like CRAZY. I was so mindless while playing that i was probably drooling. Just me, a huge as container of chocolate covered rasians, 24 pack of Vitamin water Revive, and all the DLC. Not to mention all while listening to it through a head set, so no outside noises. That was the best week EVER!!! :D
@gantzers You can return to the pit at any time after finishing it's main quest. Nearly all the areas remain open for you. As a result the ammunition press will always be accessible to you.
i’ve put over 1200 hours into this game over the last 5 years. and back in july i beat the game for probably the 20th time. every dlc also. and i feel like i may play the whole game again..
Same here. I started playing it yet again. I may start fresh and see what happens if I kill everyone and rack up as much bad karma as possible. That way I'll be able to hire Jericho from Megaton too, which I never got to do because I usually try to keep my karma high.
This game is 10+ years old and I'm still learning things. I have the game of the year but I only install broken steel and anchorage. I definitely need to download Pitt now
because the "almost perfect" perk (available at lvl 30) will raise your special to 9, if u collect the bobbleheads before you get that perk you wont be able to raise ur special to 10. so get yor lvl maxed then get the special bobbleheads.
You should also enter the house in Springvale, and take the woman's 400 caps by either convincing her via speech challenge that Moriarty sent you, or by simply killing her. Makes the start of the game quite a bit easier.
I would suggest you also complete the Operation Anchorage DLC early in the game. This would eliminate the need to advance through the main quest line in order to receive the Power Armor Training perk. That is, if you wanted to use power armor.
Youre not the only one, my first play through it took me no joke 3 days of frustration then looking up a gameplay to find what the hell i needed to do and where to find the intercom, funny today but i was punching air 5 years ago
Really great stuff! I got half way through the main quest before I looked online to see where the hell all the sidequests are!!! They really just want you to explore.
Lewishague10 lol Says you! I happen to be pretty awesome with them! Can take out 2 super mutants in one V.A.T.S. initiation. And that's just the frag grenades! :)
I have just now started playing this have for the first time ever and was so lost. Thanks for the guide video! I'll be sure to watch the others as well
I just got this game today, thanks YOGSCAST Will! This was very helpful. I didn't even know that mailbox was there at the ruined town, and I was RIGHT THERE! Walked right passed it! And ditto for the rocks with the 3 sticks. And now I know how to get a house and ingots! Thanks again! :)
Here's a tip from a veteran FO3 player. Blow up Megaton or Don't Blow up Megaton. I suggest in NOT blowing up the town, And here's why. Megaton is situated almost right in the middle of the map, Thiers Adventure on all sides Beyond its walls. theres Super duper Mart, Big town, Mine Field The DC Ruins all within convenient walking distance of, pretty much everything actually. Megaton has a MegaTON of storage space and even it's own ARMORY! were you can store weapons for repair or just plain storage purposes. and if you get a Mod called" Expanded Megaton house V3" from the Fallout Nexus Mod site, it increases the amount of storage space in your home Ten fold. Even if you are doing an evil playthrough you'll get the same amount of evil if you just kill everyone in town effectively taking it over. (minus Moira, the dude that fixes the water pipes (money for scrap), the medic guy, Jericho (he's a companion), and the chick the sells food near the bomb) Everyone else can go. and you'll get some extra gravy by stealing everything that's not nailed to the floor then selling it. Oh sure Blowing up the bomb is Kinda Kick ass but, here's the thing see, when you get an (Much smaller then the Megaton house) apartment in Tenpenny tower. you basically get the same amount of amenities as megaton. the only difference is that the tower itself it WAY THE FUCK OUT in the middle of nowhere you have to walk a bit to get ANYWHERE of interest and the inhabitants of the tower are a bunch of stuck up dick heads or just plain ass holes. And that FUCKING MUSIC!! XC it plays CONSTANTLY!! on a loop OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER and so on and so on :/ uhhg it drives me up the wall >XC. In Megaton allz you hear is the sweet music of Wind and Silence :) (sigh) ah XD. but anyways the storage in the tower is .. well, its nowhere near Megaton thats for sure. it doesn't have an armory which is -10 points in my book i'll tell ya that. so all in all, Good or Evil...just take Megaton, Its Better. :[
SporeFreak2010 Yeah I chose not to blow it up too, but I simply chose that just because I felt bad for the residents. Also isn't the point of a fallout to help each other survive?
@Razorlvirus No, it is NOT from the GTS mod. All the background music in this video is from the album "Fallout Remastered" done by Mark Morgan, the original Fallout 1 & 2 composer.
You are destined to be a narrater/commentator/radio host, sir. Great video. After mastering skyrim, I'm taking the plunge into fallout finally. Thank you for your help.
Oh, if you were interested in Lucas simms Chinese assault rifle, you can take the job by mister burke, and then turn him in by talking to lucas simms. Mister burke kills sims and leaves the loot
If you start the wasteland survival guide before you go to rivet city you can do the radiation part and get rad poisoning from swiming, but I didn't know that Moira survived megatons destruction, it's funny to see her as a ghoul
After extensive play though I found blowing up megaton is never the best option, except if you need to do the quest shoot em in the head, it makes killing Tenpenny easier but then you lose your house, I love how you can blow up megaton and kill everyone in Tenpenny tower by flooding it with ghouls, it's the best way to be a straight bad ass
I just started playing it and was about to drop the game after an hour. Thanks to this video I stayed for longer and started actually enjoying it. Thank You.
Mc Playa I wasn't sure if I would get into the game, even the beginning threw me off because of the whole Pip Boy and VATS thing, once I got out of the vault and saw the blinding light I felt more overwhelmed, but once I pushed through I fell in love with it.
@Willtherpey Yeah, you could. However, unlike Anchorage you can return to the pitt to grab the items guarded by high level skill checks later. In anchorage if you miss a hidden bonus the first time you miss it for good.
same I've always ignore the game at the shop but I stopped and gave it a try it's pretty cool I just hate the bullshit we have to go through to find James
I know it's irrelevant but since its 50's we have a diner in MN called 50's grill and the staff all dress from the fifties and they have pics of like Elvis and John Wayne anything from the fifties in there it's pretty kool
riceinaelevator im gonna assume he was gonna do a transition or some other edit and changed his mind but forgot to take it out. Honestly, thats the only explanation i could come up with. lol
How the fuck did i never find that hollowed rock lol guess i never thought of circling a city I'm led to go inside of Lol I survived and figure other stuff without it though I might use that on my current(5th or 6th) playthrough
another option after obtaining the supplies, the armor and the safe house is to start Operation Anchorage, the armory at the end supplies the player with decent weaponry(to sell or use),and the winterized suit, which i think never degrades in condition, and in the end,you can also loot the power armor of the outcasts and gain access to theyr guns for quite the amount of caps
after you win the hold fights you get your gear back. I suggest you dropping everything though because there's plenty to work with from the pitt. You'll probably become over encumbered if you take anything with you when you get it back, and there's no place you can store your stuff.
Wait so if you have the game of the year edition you dont have to download anything and you can just go there because i have a Xbox 360 and i want to play it
It depends Like I play a ton of skyrim and I had a guide on my phone and I would always just read through it for fun if I was bored but it reality I didn't do half the things I read about yet I have a lvl50 character but I haven't even finished the MQline but I know everything that happens. In some cases you could be advanced and some not really
If you want combat armor right out of the vault then all you need to do is kill socolm at megaton. When you approach megaton from the front and go right up a small hill and hide behind a A tree and make sure that you were hidden before you kill him. Then make sure that his head explodes or he falls of his ledge and you're able to search his body. Wait to put on the armor before you going to make it on and all you will get from Lucas Simms is a warning. You are able to do this with the 10 mm
I am playing this for the first time now! I was barely into it when I looked at this, pretty happy with the tips so far..... Heading to the Pit, wish me luck!
Feel like playing fallout again! Very good game. I just got to say this man, your voice is very good to listen to. I could listen to it for hours! I hope you make a lot more videos, and you also got to make a guide for new vegas.
I have another, after you leave the vault, head to Springvale, go to an small ranch and talk to silver, an old friend of Moriarty, there is an option were you can ask caps, to tell Moriarty that she is dead. Free 300 caps boys!
I did Every Main Quest and 1 Side quest ... Had the last mission "Take it back" after only accumulating 116 Caps, and "The Replicated man" was the only side mission I did. Finished at Lvl 10 on Normal
one good thing to saving Megaton is extra quest in Broken Steel about the missing aqua pura the brotherhood is sending them and the Pitt is a level 20+ area don't do it early in Very Hard mode but Operation Anchorage can be done even level 5 thats easier than the Pitt the pitt requires you to have atleast 100% reapir which you don't have you'll only be killed in the Pitt by the Bear Brothers in low level if Very Hard mode
Hey will. When I started my adventure I remember getting a deal at the game store. I got Assassins creed 2 for 35$ and fallout 3 for 25$ I started the game and was overwhelmed. I stopped playing and then later on, found your videos and played again. That was 9 years ago. Anyways, thanks for the guides. This video is so nostalgic.

Ah springvale elementary, good times, good times...just kill raiders like those guys...once you get a nice shotgun things start to go your way.

William Strife well said good sir well said and great commentary
+YOGSCAST do u have to buy the dlc when you have the goty edition because I have goty edition
+carmen osorio You should be careful if you have bought GOTY edition used - There comes a code with it normally.
Can't say I blame you. The Outcastes were such assholes. Can't say that I blamed the Brotherhood of Steel for casting them out.

Agreed, Fallout 3 has some of the worst moral choices ever.

Fallout 3: the only game where grenades aren't good
Have you seen his play of fallout? They are amazing if you up your explosive skill. And vats is awesome with them
The nuca grenades were very effective IMO........and awesome to watch go off!
Lewishague10 lol Says you! I happen to be pretty awesome with them! Can take out 2 super mutants in one V.A.T.S. initiation. And that's just the frag grenades! :)
+Lewishague10 Lol I took out 5 raiders with one grenade with an Explosives skill on 30
not good he says XD
How about grenades in some old gta games like vice city? I'd say grenades are pretty useless in that game outside of some niche uses
TheAtheistBrony To some, yes to others... Not so much :l
@Razorlvirus
No, it is NOT from the GTS mod. All the background music in this video is from the album "Fallout Remastered" done by Mark Morgan, the original Fallout 1 & 2 composer.
I remember Mr. Burke...I lit him up as soon as he was done talking to me.
Mister burke kills sims and leaves the loot
the production quality is impeccable.
Im watching this 12 almost 13 years after the games release because it took me this long to play fallout 3.
#hadnochildhoodcathingupandlovingit
I gotta say your one of the best helpers in video games I think I've ever seen
Am I the only one who chose to be a hero rather than a villain or just simply neutral?
Nah, there are about 8 billion people in this world. So no, you're not the only one.
nop
If you start the wasteland survival guide before you go to rivet city you can do the radiation part and get rad poisoning from swiming, but I didn't know that Moira survived megatons destruction, it's funny to see her as a ghoul
After extensive play though I found blowing up megaton is never the best option, except if you need to do the quest shoot em in the head, it makes killing Tenpenny easier but then you lose your house, I love how you can blow up megaton and kill everyone in Tenpenny tower by flooding it with ghouls, it's the best way to be a straight bad ass
This really helped! Before watching this I had no idea what to do, now I'm really enjoying the game! BTW I think your intros are ace!
If you have the stealth boy it will help you get to rivet city
Tha fuck?
If you're at a low level you'll need more than one, though.
Wtf?
I just started playing it and was about to drop the game after an hour. Thanks to this video I stayed for longer and started actually enjoying it. Thank You.
it's $5 on xbox live roday. isit worth buying?
ya buy it it
i did
i did!
LOL I bought the GOTY edition for 10 bucks from my local used game shop.
Mc Playa I wasn't sure if I would get into the game, even the beginning threw me off because of the whole Pip Boy and VATS thing, once I got out of the vault and saw the blinding light I felt more overwhelmed, but once I pushed through I fell in love with it.
@Willtherpey
Yeah, you could. However, unlike Anchorage you can return to the pitt to grab the items guarded by high level skill checks later. In anchorage if you miss a hidden bonus the first time you miss it for good.
Why just the skill bubbleheads? Just starting the game, and looking to go to the pitt! Greeting from venezuela!
You have some really helpful videos for Fallout 3. I hope that you continue doing this for Fallout: New Vegas.
I just got the game today
same I've always ignore the game at the shop but I stopped and gave it a try
it's pretty cool
I just hate the bullshit we have to go through to find James
ConnerGD same
It's 2021 and few days ago I've started a new adventure in the capital wasteland. Totally forgotten that this game was and still I a blast.
Nice video
I know it's irrelevant but since its 50's we have a diner in MN called 50's grill and the staff all dress from the fifties and they have pics of like Elvis and John Wayne anything from the fifties in there it's pretty kool
Cameron Butler
haha yeah im the king of anything irrelevant im not sure why but it just happens
Ive been there a ton. I believe its in brooklyn Park or Brooklyn Center
Alex Saez best shakes ever haha 👍👍
I hope you are doing well, the og start guide. Using it again after 9ish years
Why is the screen pixelated about 6 mins in?
Yo mama.
Loke Ytell Wow. You're really funny...
sonofeast11 Beacuse of breathin the screen went pixelated. True story. You breathe much.
That doesn't even make sense grammatically.
riceinaelevator
im gonna assume he was gonna do a transition or some other edit and changed his mind but forgot to take it out. Honestly, thats the only explanation i could come up with. lol
It’s been 10 years since this video came out but I’m still gonna watch it
How the fuck did i never find that hollowed rock lol guess i never thought of circling a city I'm led to go inside of Lol I survived and figure other stuff without it though I might use that on my current(5th or 6th) playthrough
Thanks for the guide! I bought Fallout 3 GOTY Edition a week ago and I've been stuck on the museum quest early on. Mainly because of ammo. Thanks!
Put all your points in Small Guns.
Done.
another option after obtaining the supplies, the armor and the safe house is to start Operation Anchorage, the armory at the end supplies the player with decent weaponry(to sell or use),and the winterized suit, which i think never degrades in condition, and in the end,you can also loot the power armor of the outcasts and gain access to theyr guns for quite the amount of caps
A weapon that i'm good with is the energy pistol, lots of ammo but it broke.Gota have it fixed soon and i always forget
after you win the hold fights you get your gear back. I suggest you dropping everything though because there's plenty to work with from the pitt. You'll probably become over encumbered if you take anything with you when you get it back, and there's no place you can store your stuff.
I just bought a mini-nuke. it rules.
I'm getting the game of the year edition for Christmas. And this guide helps. Thanks man and you sound professional too.
Wait so if you have the game of the year edition you dont have to download anything and you can just go there because i have a Xbox 360 and i want to play it
The Game Of The Year edition comes with a second disc containing the DLC. You just have to pop in the second disc and install everything.
I still have it installed so every once in a great while I go back to the game for a few hours.
What's the song at 5:12
@DanBonRP
lol, it's "voila" not 'wala'. The word is French for "there you are".
COVID-19 BROUGHT ME HERE
@MePwithE
notices pop up right in your face that usually say "something interesting is happening, check it out". And then you gain a new quest.
can i call myself an advanced player if ive never played the game but i know all the tricks to do the game right???
no
No just no
It depends
Like I play a ton of skyrim and I had a guide on my phone and I would always just read through it for fun if I was bored but it reality I didn't do half the things I read about yet I have a lvl50 character but I haven't even finished the MQline but I know everything that happens. In some cases you could be advanced and some not really
+TheWyldeWalker No, just because you've done military training, doesn't mean you are a general
completely worth it. Broken steel raises the level cap from 20 to 30, and each dlc adds new weapons, armor, perks, quests, etc.
I just bought this game off Amazon for $1
If you want combat armor right out of the vault then all you need to do is kill socolm at megaton. You are able to do this with the 10 mm
lucas corber thank you man i need armor
It's been 9 years and this guide still
Is useful thanks for the guide
I decided to go back and play it about a week ago & i still find it amazing .
I am playing this for the first time now! I was barely into it when I looked at this, pretty happy with the tips so far..... Heading to the Pit, wish me luck!
Machine88 what u think of it mate downloading it now
Very useful video I've played this game for over 200 hours and I had no idea about the rock Stache and I never thought about going to the pit early
I doesn't matter which side you choose, you can always go back to the pitt to look for more ingots.
you can also go through Operation: Anchorage DLC, because for doing it you get armor and weapons, and after end of it, you have armory
I did Every Main Quest and 1 Side quest ... Had the last mission "Take it back" after only accumulating 116 Caps, and "The Replicated man" was the only side mission I did. Finished at Lvl 10 on Normal
its 2018 and this content is still amazing!!!
one good thing to saving Megaton is extra quest in Broken Steel about the missing aqua pura the brotherhood is sending them and the Pitt is a level 20+ area don't do it early in Very Hard mode but Operation Anchorage can be done even level 5 thats easier than the Pitt the pitt requires you to have atleast 100% reapir which you don't have you'll only be killed in the Pitt by the Bear Brothers in low level if Very Hard mode
SO great. Thank you very much. Playing Fallout the first time.
@superdupersprocker
You can find all the ingots the first time you enter the yard, that's usually what I do.
