speaking of UPS.. you guys should do a quick and dirty UPS review, or simple top picks/recommendations for UPS and why you should buy one.
They have one a couple years old now.
@@zachbowermaster8376 Only UPS videos they have are of single unit reviews and are ancient videos from the vaults 7+ years old, this is obvious by the NCIX intro.
Not like present LTT videos where they compare products, have a showdown, or price guide, etc.. So I'd imagine a modern review/comparison of UPS can showcase a few products and they can test their reliability, if they have any nice features (i.e. voltage regulation/conditioning), and if they live up to their rated capacity or which last the longest on battery power with the same components plugged into it.
They really should do how to choose, and cove VA and wattage true sign and simulated sign. But really other than size there are only 2 choices for consumer level UPS that that are worth buting. The APC true sign series and Cyber Powers True sign series. But the biggest you can afford. You'll thank me when you upgrade your rig.
That would be very usefull. You can't spend 1000$ or more for a pc and leave it in the mercy of electricity...
@@GBR9794 Dont need to perform any fancy labratory testing. but rather just real world testing.. aka, plug the same computer into each ups, then have it run a synthetic benchmark and see how it performs by seeing it's stable within a margin of error which can simply judge that the power being fed to it is good enough to retain performance just as well as when it's plugged into ac power.
While it's doing this, you can also judge how stable the computer runs throughout the battery drain, and finally ending the test with how long did it take until the UPS ran out of power and turned off or if the computer system crashed due to lack of proper voltage (if the UPS didn't shut down when the load exceeded the remaining battery charge).
If there were any power fluctuations or the power that the UPS is feeding the system was dirty, running a synthetic benchmark should be good enough to detect the presence of any power spikes or improper voltage, etc, as the benchmark would likely stutter, performance/cpu/framerate take a nosedive for a second, etc that would show on a graph, or worse, the system reboots or shuts down.

Nice job. =)
It's not so much that it *can't* work as that AMD just don't *support* it.
So motherboard vendors have to hack together a compatible BIOS themselves if they want to support it.
Something yours apparently did.
It's one of those things like X470 PCI-e 4.0 support that *can* be done if you have enough know how about reverse engineering binary blobs and exact understanding of the processors and motherboards in question (as well as a ton of time, or in the case of a company, money in order to hire someone with the previously mentioned skills and keeping them working on this for that long)
Let's just say that the return on investment might be a bit so-so...
And that you can't expect frequent BIOS updates with support as a result.

Some A320 motherboards are compatible (requiring a BIOS update) with 3rd gen ryzen. For example the Asus Prime A320M-K.
*Oh yeeeaaahssss*
Some BIOS might take a while to hit the official update though.
Nothing new, AMD just won't support this, so it's a mobo manufacturer thing like always.
This. I'm looking to build a cheap Ryzen PC for my next vacation and am looking for used A320M board (mATX). Most I've checked that have my requirements (at least one M.2 x4 and a decent number of USB ports) have the newest or second newest AGESA already, so they are fully compatible with Ryzen 3000 CPUs and even support the 3950X. Although I wouldn't recommend running that setup without a good VRM cooling solution. :D Currently looking to score a 30€ GA-A320M-S2H. If that works, another 110€ or so for R5 2600 and some RAM and I'd have a nice upgrade over the laptop I use normally (2C/4T with iGPU). Standard things apply: if you buy an A320 board new the BIOS may be out of date and you likely need a compatible CPU to update the BIOS to the latest version that supports Zen 2. Look for BIOS flashback options, ask the seller if he can perform a BIOS update, ask AMD for a loaner CPU (they did that for Zen+) or look for a friend with one. An A320 board with a R5 3600 can work well.
@@Gigator Why? you can get a cheap B450 Mobo for the same price or a little extra

3rd gen Ryzen can run on a320.... My friend has an Asus a320m-k and a Ryzen 5 3600 and it runs fine
I think AMD mean that it isn't OFFICIALLY supported but can still work, after all its the same socket type/chipset
It isnt supported because the bios rom requirements for A320 chipset isnt big enough for the necessary microcode afaik. some board manufacturers used larger rom chips regardless which would allow it to work but amd won't help you out on it if you have issues.
@@nemesis2445 not quite. The bios chips on SOME boards don't have enough room for all 3 Ryzen generations. You can still have any gen, just have to choose the correct BIOS and may need an extra CPU to do the upgrade as it may need a couple of BIOS flashes in steps to get there.
The reason they say it isn't supported is cause amd isn't making all board partners support it for reasons stated before, however they aren't stopping board manufacturers from supporting it so its only supported on a case by case basis whereas everything else has a guarentee on it
A320 always felt like a ripoff to me, worse quality components than B350/B450 for almost the same price, locked overclocking, only mATX options (afaik)... The only situation buying an A320 makes sense is when you're buying a bunch of computers for an office or something. Otherwise it's not worth saving the $10-$20 difference.

You can update bios 100% safely on any Gigabyte motherboard as they all have dual bios. The cheaper ones let you change it with a switch while the more expensive ones have a dedicated backup bios that you can not access or edit. Instead if you brick your main bios it will detect that and auto restore to the factroy bios from the second chip.
A320 motherboards do support Ryzen 3rd gen CPUs. I've seen a ryzen 9 3900x running on an A320 motherboard. It's not really recommended to run such setup, but it works. A Ryzen 5 3600 would run fine on an A320 board.

To be fair the big boost for Ryzen 3xxx is the fact that it doesn't require super expensive ram to reach very good performance and can do it with budget ram builds now. This makes Ryzen 3xxx a better starter build choice than Ryzen 2xxx or 1xxx. It will be interesting to see if Ryzen 4xxx builds upon this or goes in a different direction.
First thing you should ask yourself is do you NEED to upgrade? If what you have does everything you need it to there's no real reason to upgrade.

I invested more on the Motherboard and RAM two years ago, thinking about the upgrade later on (now). Now I just need to buy a new CPU and a GPU and my PC will be up to date. I'm so happy about that. I'm planning on switching my R5 1500X for a R5 3600 and my RX 480 8GB for a 5700 XT.
Same but from a 4790 to a 3700X/4700X and a 2070 Super.
Around October I finally finished building my PC. I bought a i5 8600k just for gaming. Little did I know, Intel released the i5 9600k for basically the same price.
Stupid premise. Just because something new comes out doesn't make what you have bad. It will still do what you bought it for.
Not including motherboard upgrade
Ouch Intel
I purposely update my bios in thunderstorms with no battery backup. :)

LINUS you better not ever get rid of this guy! i did not fall asleep during his videos like i do yours. j/k. the epyc video is the only one i stayed awake on! :)

2:59 AMD says 3rd gen Ryzen isn't compatible with the A320 chipset. Board manufacturers say otherwise.
I feel like AMD just don't want people to put a 12 cores processor on their cheap A320 lol
@@nonameyet2205 Its cuz they probably couldnt handle it!
Got a ryzen 3700x. It is awesome.
This video just saved me from buying an MSI A320 PRO-E for a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. Thank you Linus TT squad, you saved my butt 😅
Most A320 boards actually do support 3rd gen Ryzen, but it's not recommended to pair them up.
SolarstrikeVG the thing is, this is my first time moving to AMD. So if I put in that Ryzen 3600, my PC wouldn’t boot. And if it can’t get into Windows, I can’t get the bios update for it to work.
KarateEmil True.
Riley is so good at these videos, great job man
*Be warned!!* If you swap your processor and or Motherboard on a Windows prebuilt system it might deactivate your Windows and Microsoft might refuse to reactivate it.
They tend to try and pull some bs that the specific windows version you have is "Meant for a very specific prebuilt system with a specific configuration and doesn't cover user modifications or upgrades..." (Basically they want the computer to become outdated so you buy a new one and thereby another copy of Windows...)
Just as a heads up...
Keep in mind this happens only sometimes though and not all the time. And sometimes windows will just spontaneously reactivate several weeks or months later as happened with two of my upgraded office computers so far (Console Recording PC and Entertainment PC.)
Both of which windows initially refused to reactivate due to me "Making significant changes to system hardware that was not coverd under the license version I had..."
That's why you dont fall into a pc trap. Just because something new comes out doesn't mean you need to get it right away. Get a CPU that scales with your GPU's performance
I agree. I also feel picking parts because they are easy to upgrade is a bit pointless. Like if your replacing the CPU every 3 years then your doing something wrong.
I was upgrading BIOS during a thunderstorm once, it's fine! ))
3rd gen will work an A320 depending on the board and if there is a BIOS update. I've seen it done on RUclips.
Yes
No fucking shit mate who hasn't seen it down with a Zen 2 CPU on a320 board
Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it or recommend others to do it. It's unsupported by the CPU manufacturer, and if the Motherboard Manufacturer does hacky things to get it working, who's to say how stable or how supported it will be (say 5 months down the line AMD issues a Microcode patch to fix a bug like Intel has needed to do multiple times recently, and the A320 boards stop working because of the patch or cannot accept the patch).
Watch for yourself. I'm not saying to do it but you can. It worked just fine here with a 3600...
ruclips.net/video/wF8EuEfKH3Q/видео.html
A320 VRM's should handle an r5 3600, or even an r7 3700x, given that they are 65w chips.
I love Ryley explaining stuff! T H E balance between entertaining and informative.
I actually did this in June :') I was upgrading my FX8350 to a Ryzen and moving to DDR4 RAM, so I got a 1700x. Then after a week or so, I saw the news blowing up about the new 3rd Gen. The fact that AMD kept with the AM4 socket was amazing and a month later I had sold my 1700x - lost £60 so not a huge loss - and picked up my Ryzen 5 3600 for £10 more than I'd bought the 1700x for a month earlier.
My motherboard was already on the latest BIOS so when my 3600 arrived, all I had to do was clean off my 212, pop in the new chip and fresh install Windows and it worked out of the box which was great. The single thread performance was just what I'd needed for that boost in gaming too as I really didn't need the multithreading of a Ryzen 7.
Let's see a video where you legitimately get those resale prices for those chips used... I'll wait.
If one was quick enough, they would get those prices. It's too late now to even get 60% because people can get new CPUs for close to that.
@@NatrajChaturvedi just move to germany.. used parts are ridiculously overpriced here.. when the pascal gen launched people were literally selling their 980 ti's for 500-600 euro on ebay.. i mean pascal had the 1070 with around the same performance for 400 euro brand new.. what do those idiots here think their old shit is worth? 90% of the price for a new one even tho another gen dropped? i really envy the us for reasonable retail prices and even more the reasonable used market.. i mean ofc the 980 ti was more expensive and cost somewhere between 550 on the cheap side and 750 on the expensive but that doesn't mean it keeps this value once a new gen offers the same performance for less money.. now for the 1080 ti i get why people sell those for 450-550 as the turing gen is friggin overpriced due to a feature you can't even utilize one year later..

Yeah its the same where I am in the U.S.
These people are trying to sell RX 460s for 150 dollars and 1050tis for 200 lol.

I have a x470 board and a 1700x so I will probably upgrade to the 3700x very nice
You know that you have low ROM memory of your MOBO to run 3000 ryzen series with full potential of MOBO? ;) You will have to update your BIOS and after that you will lose some features in your MOBO by stealing to the processor more ROM from MOBO :) AMD showed this processors too fast without telling to producents of motherboards that their processors need more ROM than previous generations of processors.
Nice one Riley, about time you stepped up your tech game!
I'm happy you are on Linus Tech Tips ol' chap.
I was gonna build my PC, but waited 3 more weeks and got a nice one with a 3rd Gen Ryzen

What u use now? Keep all the old parts, no new GPU????
@@lucasrem I was using a laptop with a i7 6700hq and 960m and it is my first desktop with 3700x and a rtx 2070 from a friend
But 3rd Gen ryzen does indeed work with a320 motherboards.
Yeah I made the mistake of building my threadripper system before 3rd gen :(
[EDIT] So I just checked amazon and it looks like I would've gotten an extra ghz, but half the cores, and $20 less

i dont think 3rd gen threadripper is even out yet?

Great work on this one guys ;)
I don't see ANYBODY talking about WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, and Thunderbolt being exclusive to X570. This was a major reason for me to spend the extra money on a new X570 board vs X470. PCIe 4.0 was a non-factor in my decision.

You wouldn't upgrade from a 2700x to a 3700x, you would upgrade to the 3900x cpu. SIMPLE!
But c'mon only enthusiasts with cash would be willing to upgrade from a top tier Zen+ to a top tier Zen2 chip I mean is 20 fps gonna kill you? (Perhaps if you have a GTX 1050 paired with your chip)
@@mikex4941 The 3900x is the best cpu around right now for $500. Get your facts right.
@@legendaryblaze817 I'm not contesting its price-performance and value and such. It's just that the mere act of upgrading a CPU for the next generation shortly after the release of the gen of your chip is not always that practical unless of course if you are a performance junkie willing to spend just a little bit more to replace your already good chip that is one gen older only
@thesmileyone X yep even if you could flip your 2700x break-even the 3900x still is gonna cost you a tad more but if you have the money and time well absolutely why not

that is retarded. why would anyone buy 3700X instead of 3600 and use it on a shit-tier board (if they knew what they were doing). definitely a waste of money or CPU capabilities.

I am living with buyer's remorse. Sort of... I built an X399 Zen+ Threadripper 2 2920X system earlier this year. And there is talk of Zen 2 Threadripper in the works soon. O.O
That said, I am very pleased with the build I have, and I doubt I'll be missing out on much of a jump from 2 to 3. Time will tell, though. :P
