That's an excellent question and I'm not sure why it was such a small group. I bumped into a rider Sunday Jan 5th as I was heading south on PCH down from Seal Beach. He wasn't in the ride, he skipped it, but he said he heard the group was smaller than usual. I said yeah, I had the same impression. My only guess is that for a few years the ride was so massive, so chaotic, that it was too dangerous to be worth it. The year I did it I hung just fine for the entire ride. However, at one point I had 4 crashes around me within earshot. And then I heard stories from others about other crashes that day that I wasn't aware of. There must have been about 10 crashes the year I did that ride. The guy I bumped into Sunday on PCH (his name is Lewis on the G3 Foundation team with Richard Meeker and Steve Strickler) said the year he did it that it was also a crashfest. So I'm guessing too many riders got spooked (like Lewis and me) and that's why so few people show up any more. But look, 150 riders is still a pretty large group. EXTRA INFO: Oh my goodness, you're George Vargas! I've ridden with you a number of times. Howdy out there!!
Very nice. I have Steve Heggs LA Sheriff Jersey hangin on my wall. Thanks for the video. We rode La Canada Hwy 2 with the Masters here.
I'm glad you got a kick out of the video. It was a fun undertaking to do. That's cool about having Steve's jersey.
Recommend an Insta360 camera. Shoot everything and re-frame in production. No more worries about getting the camera angle wrong 😜
That's excellent advice. Usually I pay more attention to the camera angle but I was so preoccupied with all the stuff that was going on.
Hello Dean! That ride used to be massive. Why do you think participation has dropped?
