- The Mr Blobby Fly was originally tyed by Jimmy McBride of Kraftye in the 1990s for fishing in the International competitions and was behind the naming of the Blobs that are tyed today...The Blob is one of the most popular competition flies used today especially in the lochs and lakes of the UK and Ireland..

Watching Mr. McPhail tie his patterns is like watching a pro athlete at their best. He always says " it's a simple fly to tie". Me an hour later on the same fly " but Davie said it was simple...aagghh!". Like the pro athlete he makes it look so easy.
and I thought that this was only me 😂
I'm Canadian, but I lived near Salisbury for a year in the mid 90's. My younger brother and sister loved the Mr Bobby show!
Davie thank you for sharing Mr Bloby with me, your a specialist just like the surgeon who removed a piece of ear. Now I know what to tie as my next endeavor when I'm discharged. Davie thanks your an inspiration to so many tyers.

Sometimes the stories are as interesting as the flies 😂 I have never tied or fished a blob or a fly with booby eyes but I'm going to give it a try. Should be interesting. Take Care

That would be a great steelhead dropper fly if you used weighted eyes.
Very interesting. Does make me wonder why loch trout would take that and its not something river trout would?

I would think you could hook a salmon more that a trout with it but I've seen these flies take some stunning fish when everything else wasn't working...

Is the dubbing seal, or a synthetic product? Great fly, I think it would look awesome in the water.

Seals fur would certainly make a good version. I used SLF synthetic living fibre which is now sold by Wapsi though Fulling Mill do a good sub called Voodoo Dubbing..I'm glad you liked it..
