Where do you dream up these awesome creations? Each fly you post seems to raise the bar in imaginative use of materials. You are the Queen of fly tying!
@robertperman8967 This one probably wouldn't. Likely way too 'splashy' for the bonefish, triggerfish, and reds I'd be targeting. Definitely needs more work before it's ready for prime time as mentioned in the description :)
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about fly tying and the fishing world, your videos attract me purely by artistic merit. You produce breathtaking works every single time. I enjoyed it lots!
This is unbelievable! Such a wonderful piece of art. Mantis shrimp are one of the coolest animals on the planet and I never would have imagined a fly based on one. Fantastic job.
Wow! Your Mantis Shrimp is sheer tying genius and one of the most realistic creations that I’ve ever seen. Absolutely stunning use of fish hooks and cosmetics, but …. catch one permit and she’s toast. I love it!
Wow, what can you say? Your use of material's is so imaginative. It's bad enough for us guy's going in to buy a bottle of Sally Hanson, but false nails are a whole different kettle of fish. Lol. Keep up the good work
What a nice video to enjoy my coffee with this morning! Very interesting prototype! I like to "freestyle" tie on occasion too! Have a great Thanksgiving!
These videos are so relaxing and the craftsmanship is incredible! Reminds me of building miniatures with the level of detail each fly has! I also love that you find time to reply to every comment and foster such a lovely community, I look forward to seeing more of your work!
I love the comparison to miniatures! I've always had a soft spot for miniature crafting, and this certainly shares many of the same techniques! Really appreciate you watching and commenting! Means more than you know :)
These are always so cool! The materials are so basic that it reminds me of arts and crafts in school, yet you're making stuff far far beyond that, it's incredible.
Freestyle?! Are you kidding me!! This would be impressive if it were made from a recipe, and its insanely more so that it's done without one! This is such a gorgeous fly oh my god. I was already blown away seeing the final product in the thumbnail, but watching the video to see all the handmade feather details, the acrylics for the exoskeleton, the articulated body parts???? This is genuinely such an amazing fly, even more than just a fly, its a beautiful recreation of a mantis shrimp created with some incredible fly tying skills. I love seeing fly tied versions of real life animals, and this one takes the cake for creativity and final result. Dude its just amazing!! Sorry for all the gushing, but I just can't imagine all the time and detail and years of skill it took to make this, you deserve all the praise for being such an incredible craftsman!!
Thank you so so much for the amazing comment! I'm so glad that the mantis shrimp resonated with you!! It was fun but definitely a major challenge, and I'm so glad it turned out!
Thank you so so much!!! We're saving up for a new slider (ours broke) to get some really great shots and this will go directly toward it! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
Im stupid because I'm new to the Channel and when I saw the name I literally thought she tied actual flies to a string (like they do with bees) and that she was going to tie a mantis to a string lol. For real though this was relaxing and creative! I love that you are doing something you love and sharing it through ASMR!
Great question! Apparently tuna, redfish, bonefish, and triggerfish will go after them! That said, this fly will likely be a little too "splashy" for them. Already working on some ideas for the next version.
amazing sure wouldn't want to cast it lol. You should try using those pipe cleaners they look like chenille but have a piece pf wire in them make great legs
@@shetiesflies I wouldn't think they would get in the way I use them for fly's I want to sink quicker. The way I use them is by wrapping around the hook for bodies like chenille for crayfish flies etc
Entirely possible! Apparently tuna, redfish, bonefish, and triggerfish will go after these guys, but this fly needs some tweaking before I think it’ll get one to bite.
This is a mantis shrimp, but it shares some feature similarities with a praying mantis insect. Tuna, bonefish, redfish, and triggerfish will go after these guys, but this fly will likely be too 'splashy' for most of them. I already have some ideas to improve version 2.0 :)
Great fly design of a mantis shrimp..... but could you change the battery in your smoke detector....or at least reset the one chirping in the background? It'd make the video more enjoyable, J/S.
Yes, thank you! Someone else commented and we changed the entire alarm. It actually wasn't a battery, just a little chirp it was doing that was inaudible without the super sensitive mic. Thank you so much for bringing it up - it should be gone from the Totally Tubular Fish video forward :)
Erin, you stated in an earlier post in a reply to requests to purchase your creations that you were too ......occupied to make fly tying a regular occupation. Have you considered exporting your designs to a factory in southeast Asia to have them tied there and distributed from there ? Not China, obviously, but you should have options from South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Phillipines, and those countries have Embassies in the USA with commercial departments who should be able to locate factories for you. Distribution from the country of production might be better considering the remarks about trade coming from your incoming Administration .... Your biggest issues would be training - flights arent expensive - and quality control, which would be critical. Fun to think about perhaps ....? Best regards, and good luck
Thank you for the suggestion! I'm not looking to have them mass produced at the moment (and many that I tie are other tyer's patterns), but certainly interesting to think about!
@shetiesflies Good luck. Not too many people have a hobby sufficiently different from others, but your skill with yours gives you ....options. Best regards.
Not sure why that's what you're seeing - I reviewed and didn't see anything of the sort. Maybe a glitch? I certainly don't want you to be uncomfortable!
Where do you dream up these awesome creations? Each fly you post seems to raise the bar in imaginative use of materials. You are the Queen of fly tying!
This thing was something of a fever dream and I ended up not having as much time to tie it as I would have liked so it became a real adventure!
Yeah, but do they catch fish???
@robertperman8967 This one probably wouldn't. Likely way too 'splashy' for the bonefish, triggerfish, and reds I'd be targeting. Definitely needs more work before it's ready for prime time as mentioned in the description :)

That's such a wondrful thing to hear! I love that you can apprecite the craft even if fishing isn't your thing. Thank you so much for the kind words!
22:06 thank u so much for this part is amazing see how it works your art under the water is literally coming to life 😮👏
So glad you enjoyed it! We were really excited to add the swimming element to our videos!
Young lady, you are not only a flytyer but an artist/sculptor! Beautiful!
Thank you so much, as always! Means so much!!
Not only do they look incredibly accurate, but they move realistically too. You’re really a genius.
Thanks so much! There's lots to tweak on this one before I think it'll fish reliably, but ideas start somewhere, right?? :)
You really are an artist!!
Thank you so much!! Really means a lot :)
your whispers are heavenly i need more😭
Thanks so much! The whispers are pretty polarizing so we may start doing some videos with more and some with none :)
@@shetiesfliesthank god less is more
This is amazing! Very impressive. I look forward to your videos. You’re definitely one of my favorite fly tyers to watch. You are a fly artist!
Thank you so much! It means a lot that you'd take the time to watch our videos - so glad to know that you enjoy them!

Wow very nice this video is awesome loved the nails as body segments waiting for the next one keep them coming
Appreciate that!! More on the way!
Wow! Your Mantis Shrimp is sheer tying genius and one of the most realistic creations that I’ve ever seen. Absolutely stunning use of fish hooks and cosmetics, but …. catch one permit and she’s toast. I love it!
So true!! This was an interesting concept, but there's lots to work out before this should realistically be fished :)
@@shetiesflies That creation is almost as pretty as its creator! Just saying… you truly do some really beautiful work.
You know these things would make a very nice lapel pin for a man or a broach for a lady, and no risk of being ripped up by a fish 🐟
Wow, what can you say? Your use of material's is so imaginative. It's bad enough for us guy's going in to buy a bottle of Sally Hanson, but false nails are a whole different kettle of fish. Lol. Keep up the good work
Ha!!! The sky's the limit with these beauty products, I'm telling you! So glad you enjoyed this one!
This is easily one of the most beautiful and amazing flies that I have ever seen!
Wow - thank you so much!! Means more than you know :)
The use of materials is so creative ❤
Thank you!! I don't think I'm the first to use fake nails, but I try to let my imagination run wild :)
What a nice video to enjoy my coffee with this morning! Very interesting prototype! I like to "freestyle" tie on occasion too! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Thank you so much! Prototype is the perfect word! Lots to adjust, but there's potential!

You just entered my top 3 favorites with this
Yay!! Love to hear it!
No words…😮 just some insane tying skills.
Thanks!!! I have lots of ideas for version 2.0!
I can't believe how underrated this is, it's so good!
So glad you're enjoying it!! :)
Congratulations on your honorable mention in J Stockard tying contest! That’s an awesome achievement.
Thanks so much! I was really surprised! It was a long shot with such a wild fly that still needs plenty of tweaking!
I didn't know what this video was when I clicked on it but now I understand and oh my god, this is so cool!
Yay!! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is my favorite fly you've made, awesome job

Brilliant!
Thank you so much!
Great looking fly! Well done. Lots of color. Better you than me!
Thank you so much! This one was certainly tedius at times, but watching all the color bring it to life was so much fun!
Absolutely love this! Although it's missing its raptorial appendages. Would have loved to see those added on.
Noted and will address in version 2.0! :)
This is so creative
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Rilassantissimo e bellissimo video! Che esca!
Grazi!!!
Superb! 😮
Thank you so much!
I won't lie to you this was in my recommendations because I watch ASMR videos but i clicked on it because I watched Hannibal
Ha!!! Perfect!
Beautiful job ❤
Thank you so much!
Woah 😮
Glad you liked it!
This is so nice to watch! Makes me wonder though, with how scary violent mantis shrimps are, what kind of fish could you even catch with it as bait?
Great question! Apparently tuna, redfish, bonefish, and triggerfish will go after them! That said, this fly will likely be a little too "splashy" for them. Already working on some ideas for the next version.
Idk much but barbless hooks for Flys? Or are you fishing something other than trout?
I tend to use barbless for flies, though I occasionally forget to pinch the barb.
Wonderful.
Thanks!! ☺️
Ok....not only is that talent that is the Cutest Lure I've ever seen....as well would be currious to see what it looks like in water
Thank you!! Toward the end of the video you can see it in the water! :)
Genial, felicidades desde Valdivia - Chile
¡Muchas gracias!
Amazing 👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you so much!
amazing sure wouldn't want to cast it lol. You should try using those pipe cleaners they look like chenille but have a piece pf wire in them make great legs
Pipe cleaners is a great idea! I'd have to experiment and see if they interfere with the hook set!
@@shetiesflies I wouldn't think they would get in the way I use them for fly's I want to sink quicker. The way I use them is by wrapping around the hook for bodies like chenille for crayfish flies etc
whom taught you how to tie flys?
I'm self taught through books and online tutorials :)
Did you ever end up posting a whispering video?
Not yet, but hopefully soon!
Change your smoke alarm battery 😂
HA! We just changed them all!
Wow.
:)
Really amazingly creative. Although I’m pretty sure fish will be running away from it from fear. 😂
Entirely possible! Apparently tuna, redfish, bonefish, and triggerfish will go after these guys, but this fly needs some tweaking before I think it’ll get one to bite.
What do you catch with a praying mantis?

Oh dear 😱😳there is going to be a lot of furtive men looking at the nail section now 🤣
A thought that brings me more than a small amount of pleasure 🤣
Nice nails💗💗💗

Now you just need to put a little motor in it it might pass as a real sea creature.
How cool would that be???? (Starts reading mechanical engineering books for salt water applications...)
Oh no im a fish
There are worse things to be :)
Pretty
Thank you! ☺️
