On a scale of 1 to 10, how irritated were you when Faker and Deft added a bonus chapter by playing for the 4th seed in this year's Worlds, which inevitably turned out to be super impactful as it lead to Faker's 5th? Lol
The most recent (and possibly final) addition to the “Faker blocking Deft from reaching worlds” story came this year when T1 qualified to worlds at their last chance qualifier in the tiebreak match against KT. Then going on to win worlds as 4th seed just like DRX did is a crazy parallel between the two players. Edit: That last deft quote made me cry.
@@isaacyim536 WHAT I'VE BEENNN SAYINGGGGG, I only became a T1 fan in 2019 but that 2021 Worlds, I knew that meant something, that Canna - OFGK roaster making it to semis, I had a gut feeling T1 will have a resurgence in the upcoming years, they just needed a missing piece, which would be Zeus.
As a T1 fan this worlds 22 finals loss hurts the most. But after watching this and the previous videos about Deft's journey. I am glad Deft became a world champion and lifted the trophy.
I mean it hurts a lot less after we went back to back but also Deft deserved it and honestly I think that loss gave all the young players the wake up call they needed to further improve themselves
@@andreas7640 did you even watch the video? Even Faker congratulated Deft. You do know even the GOAT can't win everything. People move on and learn from their mistakes. That's what Faker and T1 did. Because of that they won back to back worlds.
The fact those two both won worlds Im sure makes them each happy beyond words. Honestly T1 probably wins worlds in 2022 if Keria faces anyone *but* BeryL. Between 2019 and 2022 I swear it always felt like Keria was the best Support in Korea but BeryL just had his number specifically. Wild how it took going against his old friend with his then-Kryptonite to win a totle.
@@bmac4 tbh imo Beryl is one of the players who should be included into the LoL hall of fame, only 2 times worlds champion who did it outside of SKT T1/T1. Also his based genshin/mihoyo waifu addiction
When Keria was crying after losing the finals, he was probably thinking about how he initially wanted to go WITH Deft and could have been on his team instead of having to face him. Deft convinced him to go with T1 because they were the "better" choice, but then T1 loses to Deft's new team. That had to be absolutely devastating for Keria, being pushed to step away from his friend in favor of a "better career" only for that same friend to beat his new team at the finals. Fortunately that story has a happy ending too.
Finally someone does justice to the most incredible storyline in esports history! Also I know this is a series on Deft and Faker, but Zeka deserves huge credit, bro turned in to the best player in the world by far for like 3 weeks. And also for people watching this video without seeing the actual finals in its entirety, you owe it to yourself to watch it. So many cool moments were not included, including the gumayusi blind baron steal in game 5, the bard pick, and the incredible opening ceremony.
@@kevinfang8600 Kingen and Zeka pulled off some of the most amazing games for the years to come. Every T1 worlds win after that was basically what they learned from the 2022 worlds final. Zeus practiced to 1v9 on Aatrox in 2023. Faker practiced to 1v9 on Sylas, Keria finally brought up the courage to showcase his 1v9 Bard, while Gumayusi and Oner practiced to be the unbreakable rock on T1's side. Just like Deft and Pyosik who was always beat by players like Canyon and yet stepped tf up when the chips were down. DWG may have revitalized the LCK's hopes of winning Worlds but it was DRX 2022 that showed the world that you can win as long as you resiliently keep fighting for it till the end instead of surrendering all hopes just because the other team is "a favorite to win" or "the higher seed" or "stomped you in scrims"
@@ehsanullah2325 Very true. I think T1 also matured a lot and learned more humility through the DRX series. Honestly in 2023 they had a pretty easy finals vs weibo but they didn't relax and managed to close the series convincingly. and yeah ofc this year beating Gen G and BLG were really big challenges for them to overcome.
what's so crazy about Deft isn't his championship but the fact that he lights up whoever plays with him...he let Keria, chovy and doran go even though they would have stayed had he asked leading to the formation of the ZOGFK and GenG rosters, then STILL won worlds anyway
Technically he didn't say it, he said how it's important they don't give up and that it's important for them to remember they're a team that can still win and a reporter summarized it with the unbreakable spirit quote as the headline of an article that went viral.
I find works like this documentary are a major component of what e-sports sometimes seem to lack. These teams developed by companies as marketing schemes are very hard for people to invest in them and create stories. This documentary however is appealing and is understood to someone even if they haven't played a day of league. It is a representation of the human condition that only sports combined with storytelling can deliver. When people's wants and desires collide in a way, in an environment, of mutual competition driving everyone to be their better self. These stories remind us of what it means to be human and this is exactly what many amongst us today need to be reminded of
I agree 100%. I'm very much a casual viewer of league but these documentaries are very intriguing to me as they display the more personal side of the players' pursuit for victory. My favorite documentary has to be the one he did called The Player That Saved League about Khan. Idek who Khan was until I watched it but I was in tears by the end it was just such a moving story of a player's whole career and the affect they had on league.
I love this 5 part documentary, I love GBay, and I'm a fan of a lot of traditional sports but also esports. With that said, I'm sorry but I 100% disagree. The story that this documentary covered wasn't some obscure tale. Anyone who tuned into Worlds and watched the matches would know about this story. Both the analyst desk and the casters acknowledge and bring up a lot of the narrative points that are shown in this video. It isn't documentaries like these that esports is lacking to be able to be marketable to the mainstream, it's the fact that the games of esports itself isn't mainstream. There's little that marketing can do to get a person attached to a team when they aren't even attached to the game itself. It's easy for people to be attached to basketball or football or baseball teams because they know how to play or atleast have watched their friends play it even when they were younger. The vast majority of people cannot say the same when it comes to a game like League of Legends. Your sentiment and appreciation towards this documentary is beautiful and appreciated I'm sure, but it's just off the mark imho.
@@EllinasParamythas exactly, if you could re-read my prior comment, you'd understand we agree on that sentiment. However it isn't lack of these works that cause this, but instead it's the lack of familiarity with the base game itself. Easier to root yourself with a team or a community when you're familiar with the game. Easier to root for Lebron when you know how difficult it is to play basketball, harder to root for Deft when all it looks like is young adults playing games.
@@Pyxyty Yeah, I don't wanna go to deep. Although I don't think it is about difficulty per say there are a lot more popular difficult sports that get less attention that others. And ofc course it is very culture dependent
The ending of Game 5 Worlds 2022 was the most poetic ending of all time. SKT pushing DRX to the absolute limit with those steals and last ditch plays. But that only made the victory more gratifying for DRX.
Just want to point this out how crazily similar SKT's and DRX's world's parallels are: DRX in 2022 Entered Worlds as LCK'S #4 seed Beat GEN-G in Semi-finals Were down 1-2 in Finals Won 3-2 SKT T1 now: Entered Worlds as LCK'S #4 seed Beat GEN-G in Semi-finals Were down 1-2 in finals Won 3-2 Edit: DRX in 2022 not 2023
Drx is the most mental team that I ever seen from World history looking back how tf did they win, the fact that they win with this lineup just insane we have: -A toplaner that isn’t stable -A weak minded Jungler that have to be benched multiple time -A unknown mid lanner who played in the LPL a couple of year -An old washed up adc who do shine in LCK but doesn’t perform as expected during World -And an sp who at the time was mock at because he played Genshin too much.
I remember they asked everybody what they were gonna spend their worlds winnings on and Beryl was like "genshin wishes" Then the whole team stayed some extra days after finals to explore the US but Beryl flew back to Korea immediately to get back to genshin xdd
This has to be one of the best if not THE best Esports documentaries ever made!! The storytelling, drama and emotion you could feel coming through, not to mention covering the careers of 2 of the biggest LoL players in such depth is outstanding! You've done an amazing job Gbay!! I dont know if you plan to do more after this but I will be looking forward eagerly for them if you do!! Thanks for all the effort and work you put into this series!!
I was at Worlds semifinals 2022 in Atlanta. I don't think it can be understated how much the crowd was behind DRX. The roars were deafening. It was as loud as the day prior when T1 won vs JDG. Everyone wanted Deft vs Faker. Everyone wanted Deft to complete his last dance. EDIT: HOLY SHIT YOU CAN SEE ME AT 44:59 Over Ruler's right shoulder in the TL jersey throwing my hands in the air!
Faker has always been the main villain. A relatable and lovable one but the Demon King after all. We love to see him destroy the hopes and dreams of his enemies and he awe at his skill when he wins by a thread of HP. Only a true main character can defeat him and that's what makes 2022 so special. Love both teams so much!
What you created here is incredible. I was sucked into this like it was a Netflix full on professionally staffed documentary. Congratulations and also cried at the end as well.
World finals 2022 was the first series of league I had ever watched. Needless to say I was completely hooked from then on, been watching domestic league ever since. All your videos have been so great for someone with so many years worth of history to catch up on. Keep up the great work
I have never really followed pro-LoL. I barely know the players beyond Faker. But I watched all of this video and was hooked the whole time. Amazing and emotional story telling!
Hey GBay I started LoL in 2013 as a teenager and now I'm 26 and its cool to still see you pop up on my recommended feed as I've been watching you for what feels like 10 years. Excellent video man I think you did the rivalry great justice and I loved your focus on Deft from the beginning.
I was there at Worlds 22, and let me tell you the energy in the Arena was just unreal. Literally every single game of that BO5 was so fucking amazing. Honestly, the entire team of DRX was so underrated, looking back I feel bad that I didn't give them the respect they deserved. As a T1 fanboy, I was absolutely CRUSHED seeing T1 lose in G5, but more so watching Keria break down after it all. (tho in reality Keria wouldn't have to wait long to hoist the Summoners Cup. lol.) I don't think any Worlds will be able to match the storyline that Worlds 22 had.
What an awesome story!! The worlds video about deft was also amazing, actually crazy that his life is more epic than fiction. Great job Gbay, loved watching this whole saga of videos! Can't wait for the next story!!
A must watch is the pregame show of the GenG vs Drx semifinals, when Vedius makes an analysis of how the matchup is like in the lck, not only the wins but also the individual matchups, it really hammers home the point of how unreal the series was.
Phenomenal documentary and amazing scriptwriting, I love that you included so much of Deft's own voice and the exact words that he spoke himself, massive amount of praise for how respectful this was made in honour of his legacy. Genuinely left me in tears the majority of the runtime. I hope Deft returns to league some way or another after his military service; either as a player, analyst or streamer. Fiction couldn't have written a better story than that DRX 2022 run or hold a candle to Deft's journey.
It's crazy to think how after the fan favorites and rivalries between teams, they're all just players with their own stories, motivations, and emotions to overcome trying their best to win worlds. Thank you for the amazing video.
Loved every moment of the documentary, As great as Faker is, Deft his story is just something else. Watching every worlds watching him and his team fail over and over again to then finally winning a worlds after more then a decade was wholesome.
I know it's not super relevant but I want to emphasize just how much of an upset DRX's win over Sandbox was- this sandbox roster was THE darkhorse of the LCK that split, and Prince was on an absolute tear.
Nah the most touching part imo was when Deft tried to destroy the Nexus in 29:38. "The game was in your hands Deft" was so real man. I feel like that when I try to solo carry in my games and just get denied. It does really feel like the world is against you. It's amazing that Deft and his team were able comeback and overcome history.
I love hearing the surrounding context between all the players that comes from researching all the interviews and what not. I remember watching this tournament live and every time DRX played, I remembered Zeka putting on MVP performance after performance. One of the best individual tournaments from any player in the history of LoL. Going up against Knight in groups, Scout in quarters, Chovy in semis, and Faker in finals. And he truly stood above the rest and outperformed them all. I'll never forget it and it's beautiful to witness a player as young as he is break into the established pantheon of mid laners that exists in international LoL. Each player on the team helped Deft reach his final goal. Kingen won finals MVP and nullified Zeus, Pyosik had a million objective steals throughout the tournament even if Finals was the other way around, Zeka became the best mid laner at the tournament, and Beryl had such whacky and unique answers to the weird support meta that Worlds with things like Heimerdinger. What an amazing team to follow.
Zeka also beat Vicla and Clozer on regional qualifiers, both being seeing as next great gen of LCK midlaners and being way more valued at time than Zeka. Zeka also dominated Xiahou on plays-ins. Truely every big mid he had it in his bag.
Deft had this whole 10 year journey full of trials, sacrifices, emotional and physical pain to finally win it all. All of that just to say "One Piece is the friends we made along the way." Love that guy. His unbreakable spirit deserved to be acknowledged by his country, and the world
this is the type of video i'd love to show my family that esports is more than just a game however i think if i tried they would be so confused at any of the gameplay references i dont think itd land 😔 but this story is truly one of a kind, this was a fantastic documentary
DRX vs T1 was genuinely one of the best worlds finals we have ever seen. The story. The rivalry. Deft's personality. The underdog team and how hard they fought, it was just all incredible and I've never felt such emotion watching a finals before or since. It was basically the modern day TPA but better, and i don't know if we will ever see another story or team like this
bro when u brought up TPA that is accurate asfk like bro the whole cycle is beginning well edg won 2021 i bet 2025 will be 3peat T1 and golden road complete
I'm glad I didn't watch the first video when it came out. I just binged the whole series. Truly amazing. I loved Worlds 2022. It will forever have a special place for my love of LoL Esports.
This video left me in tears. Literally one of the greatest story and storytelling in esports history. Might even be #1. The wait for the last video was well worth the wait. What an absolute banger. Thank you
As a long time Deft fan, watching him fail and fail again, from EDG, to that gut wrenching game 5 series on KT, to the first worlds on DRX having to face DWG, finally witnessing him win it all especially in person as I was fortunate enough to attend finals, this whole doc did his story incredible justice. He is truly an inspiration and proof of how important an unbreakable spirit is. I really thought after that series against IG in 2018 "Will he really ever get a chance like this again?" but he made it happen on a team doubted all year. Thank you for this beautiful documentary series, I cried like hell.
I already know the story, but I broke into tears so many times watching the documentary. Thank you Gbay for making such masterpieces of league history. Please keep it up.
The crazy part is how much worlds history that roster made in one championship. The reverse sweep vs edg was only the second in worlds history and they were the first(and most likely only) play-ins team to not only make it to finals but to also win the championship. And they did it through all the crazy stuff that happened in the event, the inhib respawn, having a terrible early game 2 to geng, having a total of 3 barons stolen in the finals. And still bouncing back every single time. Now THAT is true mental fortitude
I waited for this final for awhile and I'm far from being disappointed. Well done Gbay, you narrated that story in such a way can only be described by "perfect". With that said, you kept mentionning how Faker stood in Deft ways in so many occasions but the truth is... Faker stood in the way of every single pros you can think of. Looking forward for next series!
This series of yours has really been a fantastic watch and has got me a lot more involved in the entire esports scene for league, it's crazy that the first year I started playing league and the world's champion to choose a skin for my main in 2 roles. Makes me feel a lot closer to drx as a whole and I'm glad they finally won
Mate, this floored me, what a brilliant way to showcase and experience the history behind the best storyline Worlds has ever produced. BRB wiping tears off my keyboard.
The first video of this series came out in the middle of my senior year of Highschool, and only a few days before I started dating my current girlfriend. To think this series would end for me (3 weeks after it came out cause YT didn’t recommend it and I had to find it) on the day I would get my first big work promotion after graduating, was emotional. Thank you Gbay99, but not so thank you for the tears.
I love that you bring forward so many stories that deserve to be told thay are scattered about from LoL history. The game is only compelling because of the people that make it happen and they have stories to tell.
as an adc main that has retired from LoL and moved on to other mlbas, specifically pokemon unite now, seeing deft make it after so long is so tear breaking for me... such an inspiration. although I might never go pro i still remember names like deft, ruler, uzi and especially faker and all this continues to spark a fire in me to continue playing my best no matter what happens. I am now 30 yrs old nd I started playing mobas since league 2009 nd I'm still going
Brilliant! Thank you so much for your effort over the last year to make this documentary series, it really showcases both the incredible stories of League of Legends and your passion for storytelling. Deft's championship was such a special moment in the history of our game.
Thank you for telling this story! As a western league fan who hasn't followed the east much at all in the 10+ years I've played and watched the game, Deft's journey is one that I never knew, but it's a story that deserves to be told and that everyone should know.
OMG OMG OMG YESSSS!!! I was walking back home today thinking when the final part of this amazing memorial is gonna be released! I can't wait to enjoy it!!! Thank you so much for these videos, I hope you unify them as well for an ultimate binge watch :D
Holy hell, Gbay. The quality of this production and your ability to tell stories is professional to no end. You got a lot of tears out of me having seen Deft's story for the first time. I kept up with 2016-2018 worlds, but really not any further than that... what an amazing man and player. Deft has a heart of gold that is so, so pure and so determined. Bless his heart for everything that he went through and all he did to achieve in his last dance. The fact that he was still having fun, smiling, and even crying on stage as to how much this meant to him while still being able to play the best of his best is awe-inspiring. What an absolute hero.. unreal. Gbay, I encourage you to go and contact Riot. Ask them to host your documentaries somewhere. Even if you wouldn't get paid for it (I'd hope so, but you know), more people should see what you've put out here. I'm unsure if they've already endorsed your content on social media, but if that isn't the case, putting your content on the page of Riot is a pedestal well deserved. Thank you for this series. It's been an insane ride to watch this whole thing through and root for a man I'd only heard of in passing beforehand. Your underdog stories are just legendary. I'll see you guys again in ten years when I watch this whole thing over and cry a second time over too. Cheers for your career, Deft, and cheers to the memories, Gbay. Fantastic work. :)
42:36 Actually I think it’s a very strong act to turn away your close friends, cause I’m sure he would want to play with them too , but did it for their future Really cool Deft really incredible person
Banger, I went from still being sad Viper and the gang couldn’t make the run to crying happily rewatching the DRX boys on comms making theirs. Gj as ever Gbay, thanks for keeping at it
This is the best league of legends content, on RUclips or otherwise. What a team, what a story, what a documentary ... you deserve all the props in the world, Gbay. It's hard to say who else in the world could do Deft's 2022 Worlds run justice other than you.
This year’s champions, T1, sure had it hard as well, but seeing people compare their narratives is insane, cause it’s not even remotely the same-except for both being the 4th seed and facing GenG at the semi. They both worked so hard, but it’s just not the same-this should be acknowledged by all since they all grew from their hardships differently. IMO DRX22 really took…prolly the hardest route possible. However, being unlucky is one of the strengths of DRX22 cause it made the players even more resilient. They faced LCK 22 Summer and Spring Champions, MSI 22 Champions, the Worlds 21 defending Champions…literally to hell with that competition line-up, but they persevered. All this, backed by a relatively medium-size e-sports org…absolute insane Cinderella story. Please do be reminded that this team only has two rookies that has never played on the LCK before 2022 (they both started on LPL after CL), a jungler who has never won a title-was never even a proper trainee, just trained and pulled from his time as an independent streamer…this team is the real definition of “rag-tag” team. Thanks for making this detailed video, just shows that while DRX22 members shine on different games-the narrative that Deft was carried from start to finish is proven to be far from the truth.
@@Adp32306 winning back to back is more special, but compare the level of their opponents and see which one you think had a harder time, also consider that the META quite literally favors T1, good for them. You might also want to add in that the whole of T1 are veterans backed by the largest company in lol esports history while having the BEST midlaner to ever exist back in form. I think those are pretty good head starts for T1, in comparison to crickets that DRX have.
For sure 2022 DRX run was still better than 2024 T1 run, mainly because of the Character Arc of Deft, and his journey of towards his 1st ring, but If I were to rank both of these worlds run, I'd put both of them at S tier and I don't think that comparing their narratives is that Insane. For context, both DRX 2022 and T1 2024, really had a bad summer split. Asides being 4th seed, T1 were also one game away from being eliminated at regional gauntlet that was against KT, the team of Deft. (same as DRX vs LSB in summer 22 gauntlet). T1 would've played in Playins stage possibly against WBG, if LCK #4 and LPL#4 were to play in there. At Knockouts, T1 3-0'ed LPL#2 TES, 3-1'ed Gen G (LCK#1, MSI 2024 Champions and T1 also has a 10 loss streak against them with the same line-up), and 3-2'ed BLG (LPL#1, MSI 2024 Runner-ups). The only difference is that of the quarterfinals, wherein, DRX faced of against EDG (LPL#3), the 2021 world champs whereas T1 faced against TES (LPL#2). But asides from that, T1 also took the route the hardest possible route I believe this 2024. There was also an interview, wherein Faker was asked whether or not, if their loss against 2022 DRX, helped them grow as a team, and Faker said that it helped them to have that same fortitude, to never give up despite having such hardships, facing defeat in the finals and ultimately becoming that 4th seed, and to be able to win it redeeming that lost in 2022 worlds. It's evident enough of Zeus who, wasn't even smiling after winning against Gen. G. He only smiled when they won against BLG after game 5.
@@jbfernandez0221 Yknow what? I can see your point. They can be compared, but the impact is just not the same. To add to this, I think what makes DRX22 an absolute miracle on their own is that expectations on the team composition itself…has been low their whole existence and that never changed not once during their run, knowing that in the whole off LCK 2022, they were mediocre and shaky. They’re unlike T1 who have veterans, in both players and coaches. This year, while T1 had hardships in Summer, they’ve proven to show up in both MSI (placing high) and EWC (winning), so regardless, everyone knows that this T1 line-up, without a doubt, is one of the best to be ever formed. I am a T1 fan so I can say this and it maybe a bit biased but I never doubted T1, not one bit, in their whole worlds run. DRX however…if it wasn’t for a “retiring” Deft and Beryl, felt like an absolute budget comp. Most even called it “just a cash grab for Beryl”, no one looked at them as LCK contenders at all, much less at WORLDS. Anyway, this isn’t a rant, just talking about this is so entertaining.
@@Adp32306go to sleep. DRX had to deal with awful org and owner, record of 2-16 year prior their Worlds run, both sololaners not even winning one single regional BO5 in their life, 2 ex streamers never considering to be pro players in their youth, and black cat marked as past glory who will never win the big thing. They fought through Busan, Mexico, New York, Atlanta and San Francisco, playing 36 games in their entire run. 36 games vs 13 different teams. Knowing T1 started their 2024 Worlds run on loss 3-2 vs Damwon. Btu they were 3rd seed under year rankings. So they had another chance vs KT. The company who owned choke and drama to new level since their origins. If DRX had lost vs KT first regional qualifier BO5, they would have been already out. Also, T1 has the unique chance, wealth and stability to handle qame big roster of stars players year after year after year. Where DRX is kind of team/org winning most incredible Worlds ever and had to depart, disband and restart everything. There is nothing to compare. Also, major sidenote. DRX beat T1. T1 nevee faced DRX 2022 rodter ro win it all in 2024, okay? We're okay. So, go spread your hatred/jealousy around DRX somewhere else. T1 cemented themselves at not onky the greatest org ever this year, but beyond that. Being some Worlds demons owners. That's enough. You will never rewrite things and 2022 run. DRX were unstoppable on their strenghts and will, they win it all. They wrote the most incredible, unreal, impossible run story in e-sports history. Some feat, for once in LOL existence, T1 itself would have not achieved. It's what make you mad? Deal with it.
This series is unarguably the best document series ever. Even though I'm might asking too much, I hope you can make an epilogue episode of this rivalry, as Deft will definitely be enlisted next year and Faker since that "Last Dance of Deft" has added two more Worlds titles to his cabinet
One of your best. Choked up multiple times. Keep on telling these stories, they give these moments such power and inspiration. I do think it would have been cool if you mentioned his worlds skin though, which really encapsulated the run and the message that galvanized Korea afterwards.
I remember watching that DRX T1 Final. I had no idea about the backstory at the time but it absolutely captivated and had me on the edge of my seat rooting for the underdogs. Ive been playing league since the beta but that was the first time pro play really caught my attention. Worlds always pulls me in now.
I went into this not knowing deft had won and had been out of the scene for half a decade. I had heard Faker won this year so I thought this was about Deft losing to faker this year. When deft won on your docu i was shocked and cried while he gave his interview. Thanks for the great content
This series really has been some of your best work Gbay. Despite watching a lot of these moments live, rewatching them here still has me feeling the same emotions I was back then. Cheers to two outstanding and memorable careers for Deft and Faker.
Such a fitting end. The best Worlds finals ever- nothing else comes close. Also one of the best series ever. Thanks so much for chronicling this with such detail and care, Gbay. Wishing you and yours well!
Love your LoL documentary series! If I really had to nitpick, I think you could have done the final series more justice! The amount of steals that kept those games close, skirmishes that saw individuals from DRX stepping up, and not just them, how T1 seemed to be always getting a punch in when put behind, culminating as imo, not just the best world finals, but the best worlds yet. The music, the storyline, and the history behind all those players. I also really liked the focus on Deft's full journey, and his personality, pushing his teammates to go to better environments for their careers, not withholding his experience from any of them, and the miraculous yet seemingly fated run against all of those ex teammates and friends. An amazing job on the documentary, y'have a knack for it! Been binging some of it this year during worlds! Thank you!
how coincidental that i stumbled upon and binged all the previous parts of this documentary a few hours ago and somehow JUST now you uploaded the last part!! this has been a wonderful video series to listen to as a person who just got into league esports and is fascinated by the players' histories, and i really appreciate the hard work you put into this! thank you!!
Faker and Deft are truly amazing. Such different stories that have led to legendary moments. One, the GOAT who had to rebuild his castle brick by brick to claim victory once more. The other, who was always in his shadow knocked down time after time, building up his resume until he finally got to sit upon his own throne. Dude what are the writers gonna do next? Finally get Chovy his??
My Goat Deft, it was a pleasure to see you play and grow over a decade of approach to become the player who can lift the trophy. I wish him all the best for the future. Thank you so much Gbay for giving us such a masterwork of a video. Really appreciate your job here!
I had an idea of what Deft's story was like, but I never thought of it in this way on such an emotional level. Wow, it gave me a whole new perspective on his story. It's just incredible-I never expected to cry over this. Gbay99, you did fantastic on this documentary, and you've earned a subscribe for real.👌
This was beautiful. Truly. I've always been someone who was more disappointed that T1 wasn't able to win in 2022. This series gave me the insight into Deft as a person and as a player that I never really knew, and now I'm really glad he won. Thank you for making this. I really hope that you continue to make documentaries like this, it was probably one of the most touching I've ever watched.
Teared up 4 times during this, and his final words opened the flood gates. It's such a beautiful, once in a lifetime story that I can't believe I had the pleasure to witness happen, and told fantasticly to add, thank you.
I hope I did the story justice. Special thank you to anyone who watches all the way to the end :)
Dude you crushed this series well done
nice🎉
On a scale of 1 to 10, how irritated were you when Faker and Deft added a bonus chapter by playing for the 4th seed in this year's Worlds, which inevitably turned out to be super impactful as it lead to Faker's 5th? Lol
I was actually catching up on watching a few hours ago. Glad this uploaded! ❤
@@gbay99 I would love to see a documentary about 2024 T1 worlds run. Love all your vids ❤️
Scriptwriters were cooking so hard for Worlds 21-24
@@isaacyim536 WHAT I'VE BEENNN SAYINGGGGG, I only became a T1 fan in 2019 but that 2021 Worlds, I knew that meant something, that Canna - OFGK roaster making it to semis, I had a gut feeling T1 will have a resurgence in the upcoming years, they just needed a missing piece, which would be Zeus.
T1 don't lose to the LPL
Deft gave T1 that DRX magic run
@@isaacyim536 When are they writing in my NA worlds win???
"The important thing is the unbreakable spirit." - Deft
As a T1 fan this worlds 22 finals loss hurts the most. But after watching this and the previous videos about Deft's journey. I am glad Deft became a world champion and lifted the trophy.
I mean it hurts a lot less after we went back to back but also Deft deserved it and honestly I think that loss gave all the young players the wake up call they needed to further improve themselves
Then you are not a real T1 fan if you are glad Deft won...
if anything Drx winning worked in t1 favor, it created in them this sense of "you cant understimate anyone" that pushed them into back to back wins.
@@Ashne405 Looking back now that loss might have been that best thing that happened to T1
@@andreas7640 did you even watch the video? Even Faker congratulated Deft. You do know even the GOAT can't win everything. People move on and learn from their mistakes. That's what Faker and T1 did. Because of that they won back to back worlds.
Seeing keria in the crowd to support deft is wholesome
The fact those two both won worlds Im sure makes them each happy beyond words.
Honestly T1 probably wins worlds in 2022 if Keria faces anyone *but* BeryL. Between 2019 and 2022 I swear it always felt like Keria was the best Support in Korea but BeryL just had his number specifically. Wild how it took going against his old friend with his then-Kryptonite to win a totle.
God it was gut wrenching to rewatch him cry in the finals now knowing the history they had together
And it was wonderful seeing Deft cheer Keria and T1 for their finals match in ‘23
@@bmac4 tbh imo Beryl is one of the players who should be included into the LoL hall of fame, only 2 times worlds champion who did it outside of SKT T1/T1.
Kingen too, he picked Aatrox on Game 5 and he took “World Ender” a bit too literally at the Final Moments.
While this story is way up there, you definitely havent been watching many other esports because OGs TI8 run 100% takes the cake on this one.
Zeka was playing out of his mind that entire worlds but Kingen Aatrox 1v9d the finals, it was so insane
Keria cheering for Deft and Chovy wanting to play with Deft on the same team is a testament to Deft's ability and character.
Not even that they would have stayed had he asked, but that they wanted to stay with him and he told them to go to the better team.
this doesnt feel like a 1 hour long video because i think half of it i was crying
Same man. Same.
Cringe
XDD@@pol5354
@@pol5354 live a little
After the girl who supported Deft appeared, i just couldn't stop crying throughout the video
Man, I totally thought that "unbreakable spirit" quote was someone's else quote that deft read. But, that's actually his own quote!!!! What a man!
🎵Heart Unbreakable~🎵
Technically he didn't say it, he said how it's important they don't give up and that it's important for them to remember they're a team that can still win and a reporter summarized it with the unbreakable spirit quote as the headline of an article that went viral.
2022 was honestly the best Worlds ever. Best storyline, best character arc, and the most satisfying ending.
Probably the most entertaining final
@@FFus-il7xbImo I would say Greatest Series & Greatest Finals.
2014 was by far the best
hearing their voice coms talking about how much fun they are having fun in league touched a special place in my heart
DRX: These games were so fun! Here we go atlantaaa!
Meanwhile Zeka: Who stole my penta?

Truly a league player moment
@@Pyxyty I am just showcasing that e-sports teams have no base or community roots as most sport-teams have.
But that only made the victory more gratifying for DRX.
hi vars
Man, that Keria crying clip still makes me weep, the torment, the pain you feel it...
Yeah but thankfully in the end it worked out for him too
Just want to point this out how crazily similar SKT's and DRX's world's parallels are:
DRX in 2022
Entered Worlds as LCK'S #4 seed
Beat GEN-G in Semi-finals
Were down 1-2 in Finals
Won 3-2
SKT T1 now:
Entered Worlds as LCK'S #4 seed
Beat GEN-G in Semi-finals
Were down 1-2 in finals
Won 3-2
Edit: DRX in 2022 not 2023
DRX in 2022*
@@andreamissiato6284 yeah thanks just noticed
Now if only Chovy could get his own monkey off his back
And either LWLWW in final
faker just had to take the spotlight back and try to one up drx's miracle run
Drx is the most mental team that I ever seen from World history looking back how tf did they win, the fact that they win with this lineup just insane we have:
-A toplaner that isn’t stable
-A weak minded Jungler that have to be benched multiple time
-A unknown mid lanner who played in the LPL a couple of year
-An old washed up adc who do shine in LCK but doesn’t perform as expected during World
-And an sp who at the time was mock at because he played Genshin too much.
Bro I was not ready for that beryl part 🤣
Why you do beryl like that 💀
I remember they asked everybody what they were gonna spend their worlds winnings on and Beryl was like "genshin wishes"
Then the whole team stayed some extra days after finals to explore the US but Beryl flew back to Korea immediately to get back to genshin xdd
Just like Faker and Deft, Gbay you're also a true legend for making this incredible documentary series.
true
EDIT:
HOLY SHIT YOU CAN SEE ME AT 44:59 Over Ruler's right shoulder in the TL jersey throwing my hands in the air!
i still think 2022 was the best worlds we’ve ever had. thanks for the five part docuseries, it served that storyline justice.
thank you gbay99 for this incredible documentary series
In every story, Faker is the main character. Even as The Antagonist
"All roads lead to me" -the Goat
You know why?? Because FAKER is the league
Great series Gbay!
(tho in reality Keria wouldn't have to wait long to hoist the Summoners Cup. lol.)
I don't think any Worlds will be able to match the storyline that Worlds 22 had.
I'm not crying I just have Deft's unbreakable spirit in my eye... Bravo on the great series! I loved every minute.
37:56 nice Jin Air Green Wings reference there Gbay 🫡
Was about to comment the same
I know it's not super relevant but I want to emphasize just how much of an upset DRX's win over Sandbox was- this sandbox roster was THE darkhorse of the LCK that split, and Prince was on an absolute tear.
People also forget how much of an upstart that KT team they beat was. They went the distance both times, VicLa rejuvenated that team so much so fast.
@@bmac4 Prince and VicLa are two of the biggest wastes of talent in Korean League history. All of that talent just to go to NA
Prince was sacrificed for the miracle of DRX just like how KT was sacrificed (twice) for T1
@@nathanhosea489they are not on LPL? Last time i checked about Vicla, he seemed to be on LPL middle seeding roster.
it’s crazy watching this and remembering worlds 2022, but i now i have an even more appreciation for deft’s story from watching your series
Omg Keria in the crowd for Deft's playoffs, absolutely incredible 10:53
34:22 Zeka asking who stole his penta 😂 It was Pyosik
Thank you for your constant gifts to the community gbay, no one does it like you.
You outdid yourself. This has been a phenomenal documentary series.
Deft had this whole 10 year journey full of trials, sacrifices, emotional and physical pain to finally win it all. All of that just to say "One Piece is the friends we made along the way."
Love that guy. His unbreakable spirit deserved to be acknowledged by his country, and the world
This story is better than any book, film, anime or anything. It’s just the life. Amazing work, truly amazing. Thank you ❤
this is the type of video i'd love to show my family that esports is more than just a game
however i think if i tried they would be so confused at any of the gameplay references i dont think itd land 😔
but this story is truly one of a kind, this was a fantastic documentary
DRX vs T1 was genuinely one of the best worlds finals we have ever seen. The story. The rivalry. Deft's personality. The underdog team and how hard they fought, it was just all incredible and I've never felt such emotion watching a finals before or since. It was basically the modern day TPA but better, and i don't know if we will ever see another story or team like this
bro when u brought up TPA that is accurate asfk like bro the whole cycle is beginning well edg won 2021 i bet 2025 will be 3peat T1 and golden road complete
The parallels between T1 pre-Worlds 2023 and Azubu Frost were super scary. The thought of Keria never winning Worlds like MadLife was sobering
Thank you
Didn't expect to be crying to a LoL video today. Totally worth the 2 years in the making
This whole series needs to be bigger amazing storytelling as always
Watching this series not knowing whether Deft won a worlds or not made it so rewarding in the end. Thank you for the videos!
the way that EDG series went after the inhibitor respawn must be one of the biggest "ball don't lie" moments in sports history
Bro I just dried my tears after T1 and I’m balling again
Thanks for the series, amazing work
Damn, this video is awesome! It really does justice to Deft's story for Worlds 2022. The important thing is the unbreakable spirit.
I already know the story, but I broke into tears so many times watching the documentary.
Thank you Gbay for making such masterpieces of league history. Please keep it up.
thank you. this series was incredible. your story telling is unmatched. and defts story deserved nothing less.
ABSOLUTE CINEMA! The EDG v. DRX and the conclusion was amazing. Watched the whole series, really appreciate the work! Keep it up!
29:16 this will forever be a heart attack moment in LEAGUE HISTORY!!!!!!
This is the best esports documentary that exists. Thank you for this journey Gbay.
A wonderful finale. My wife and I watched all the previous 4 and had been eagerly awaiting the finale. Thank you 🙏 loved this whole series.
1:11:04 holy crap seeing LS in the list of patron supporters was such an incredible surprise !!

Insane video Gbay, you never dissapoint when it comes to creating these documentaries, it's videos like these that deserves milions of views
as an adc main that has retired from LoL and moved on to other mlbas, specifically pokemon unite now, seeing deft make it after so long is so tear breaking for me... such an inspiration. although I might never go pro i still remember names like deft, ruler, uzi and especially faker and all this continues to spark a fire in me to continue playing my best no matter what happens.
Every now and then I am reminded why you are such a gem in my subs! Thank you for all your work
Thank you for telling this story!

Deft really incredible person
Banger, I went from still being sad Viper and the gang couldn’t make the run to crying happily rewatching the DRX boys on comms making theirs. Gj as ever Gbay, thanks for keeping at it
An amazing tribute to the greatest worlds we ever had. Thank you Gbay :)
Thanks for making this detailed video, just shows that while DRX22 members shine on different games-the narrative that Deft was carried from start to finish is proven to be far from the truth.
yeah but winning back to back is harder, DRX 22 got gifted an aatrox akali meta for sololanes, who now can't even make it to semis anywhere
I remember Zeka playing like an absolute monster the whole tournament. Glad Deft got one in on the king!
This series is unarguably the best document series ever. Even though I'm might asking too much, I hope you can make an epilogue episode of this rivalry, as Deft will definitely be enlisted next year and Faker since that "Last Dance of Deft" has added two more Worlds titles to his cabinet
Not just that. En route to title number 5, Faker BEAT Deft in regionals in a 5 game series.
@nathanhosea489 Deft's final matches were to send off Faker, T1's 2024 Worlds run bears many similarities to DRX's 2022
@@nathanhosea489would've been better if the last match took place at Worlds 2024 final, but we'll take what we have seen
One of your best. Choked up multiple times. Keep on telling these stories, they give these moments such power and inspiration.
I do think it would have been cool if you mentioned his worlds skin though, which really encapsulated the run and the message that galvanized Korea afterwards.
I'm really glad I was along for the ride not only for this story but also your journey of becoming a great sports documenterian, thank you Gbay99!
Thank you!
There it is!!! My day just got so much better!!
Thanks Gbay!
how coincidental that i stumbled upon and binged all the previous parts of this documentary a few hours ago and somehow JUST now you uploaded the last part!! this has been a wonderful video series to listen to as a person who just got into league esports and is fascinated by the players' histories, and i really appreciate the hard work you put into this!
This 5-part docuseries has been your best work yet, Gbay. This left me teary eyed. Looking forward to your next project.
You can say he robbed Chovy and Ruler of world titles in back to back years then
Absolutely beautiful video. You made a famous story feel so fresh and impactful
Seriously so incredible. Your masterpiece?
Teared up 4 times during this, and his final words opened the flood gates. It's such a beautiful, once in a lifetime story that I can't believe I had the pleasure to witness happen, and told fantasticly to add, thank you.
