Comedy hit from the late Dermot Morgan about boxer Barry McGuigan always thanking his manager (mister) Barney Eastwood at the end of every fight in the 1980s.
I've been a fan of Father Ted for over 20 years and have just come across this now thanks to the RTE documentary RIP Dermot Morgan Respect from Sunderland via Belfast
I heard this quite a few times back in the day on the radio in the UK. Didn't realise until recently that it was Dermot Morgan. I really enjoyed this, thank you very much Mr Morgan.
RIP the man I will always call Father Ted. I am reading a lovely memoir written by his children Don, Bob and Ben at the minute. Read about 5 or 6 Barry McGuigan books too. And Barney Eastwood's. RIP. All great people. (Editor: I should point out that Barry is alive and well and - totally of no relevance - his family home is a couple of mile from me). (Editor 2: You should note that as Ted - I know Dermott - died a while ago, unbelievably nearly 26 years ago, his children are now around the age he lived to. Editor 3: Don't tell Dougal this but Father Jack died on the same day as Ted, though I wouldn't blame him if he went into hiding on February 28th every year since, sometimes it can be a curse being Irish. (Editor 5, did you know Barry Devlin of eternal - no he's not dead - Horslips fame, got his first number one with this song?
Barry McGuigan used to always thank his manager ( Mr Eastwood) after his fights so Dermot Morgan being Dermot Morgan decided to rip the piss out of him 😂😂
I feel that if you've ever spent an age at a wedding or an awards ceremony listening to someone thanking everyone down to their caterer's cousin's dog, that this song will resonate with you, even if you've never heard Barry McGuigan, Ronald Reagan, Bob Geldof, or Pope John Paul II open their mouths. The line "Don't thank Him, Your Holiness, thank Mr Eastwood!" is brilliant anyway.
A bright shining light that burnt out too soon

Realing in the years.
It must be well over 20 years since I started watching Father Ted,and I never knew this existed until now!
I remember hearing this song on a record which my mum bought back when I was five years old. Such happy memories. That was back in 1985.
Yes, I also have a copy of the 7" vinyl single (and also Barry McGuigan's single Someone To Call My Girl from the same time!)
I remember seeing this when I was a kid and I thought it really was Barry Mcguigan singing it.
So did I am shocked it was dermot morgan :D. Knew the chorus and all.
