- OK, we admit it. We’re smitten. It’s not just a passing crush, a little thang, a fickle fancy. It’s true love and we adore Samantha Fish. She had us from the get-go when she ruled the crowd in her 2016 Fred Shellman Memorial Stage debut, and we’ve invited her back every year since then. We’re so grateful she says yes! How do we love her? Let’s count the ways. Let’s start with her guitar chops. She makes the guitar cry and sing, and her solos are like riding a magic carpet through time and space. Then there’s that voice. Oh, that voice. It’s clear and pure and powerful as a springtime river. She howls and shouts and she sings sweetly with unbridled emotion. Her latest record, “Belle of the West,” is a soulful outing that finds her style venturing from expected blues norms. She lives and plays to challenge herself. A great arrangement and fantastic performance by a true superstar. A poignant moment at 4:04 showing the advertising sign, STUBBS bar-b-Q, reminding us of the late Micky Stubbs who wrote and recorded the original version of 'Little Baby' with his band 'The Blue Rondos'. I'm sure this performance would have had him smiling and tapping his feet.

We agree. I just hope all is well with her now. This pandemic appears to have caused her to disband her group of musicians and now she is doing a few gigs with two sidemen. I want to see her live act as soon as I can feel OK in a crowd again. She has many fans in Europe and I see on her webpage she has a good many gigs booked there upcoming. She used to have many gigs in Florida. I live "near" Florida and I never minded driving up to 500 miles to catch her show. That appears to have all dried up now. She is coming to Alabama
in April, however.

The Red eyed make up is for the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival....and/or her new albums...Samantha is the best female guitar PLAYER imo & Imo I think she needs more growl in her voice!! Now ... she performed this song a while back when she was playing a gig in NYC... and the horns sounded terrible... but they sound GREAT in this performance. Glad to hear that the horns blend in now! She's one awesome guitar player and performer! 😎👍👍

I never figured out the red eye makeup, but anything Sam does is fine with me. I don't care if she paints her whole body red. (I'd like to watch her do it, however.) Love her dearly. Been to see her live five times and plan on many more.
Based on the lyrical content of a number of these songs from the Kill or Be Kind album, I'm thinking the red eye represents abuse, certainly emotional and perhaps physical, in a relationship. It's my guess. I've never heard or read a literal answer from her though.
@@thegroupharmonyalley I agree. Little is known about her personal life, but her song "Bulletproof" seems to tell of serious abuse which only someone who underwent it could understand. When I saw the eye makeup I inwardly decided it might have been due to a black eye--but hey--she might have walked into a door too.
@@mr.vinegaroon3132 I wondered if she had had a black eye, but then seeing the image used again and again as a theme, on merchandise and all, I concluded she used it to represent a black eye to indicate abuse in a relationship, even if it's emotional... the lyrics of several songs seem to point to feeling abused.

The longer this social distancing stuff goes on the worse it is for artists like Samantha Fish. Hell we have many politicians and media outlets saying that social distancing should be permanent. If social distancing becomes permanent than artists like Samantha Fish will be done in the music business. Hell even the mega music musicians might have to file for bankruptcy because they also heavily rely on making a majority of their income on touring. Social distancing permanently will be the end of sports and music entertainment as we know it and these artists that we enjoy like Samantha Fish will be working in another field other than music.
